• Reliable and fast way to convert a zillion ODT files in PDF?

  I need to pre-produce a million or two PDF files from a simple template (a few pages and tables) with embedded fonts. Usually, I would stay low level in a case like this, and compose everything with a library like ReportLab, but I joined late in the project. Currently, I have a template.odt and use markers in the content.xml files to fill with data from a DB. I can smoothly create the ODT files, they always look rigth. For the ODT to PDF conversion, I'm using openoffice in server mode (and PyODConverter w/ named pipe), but it's not very reliable: in a batch of documents, there is eventually a point after which all the processed files are converted into garbage (wrong fonts and letters sprawled all over the page). Problem is not predictably reproducible (does not depend on the data), happens in OOo 2.3 and 3.2, in Ubuntu, XP, Server 2003 and Windows 7. My Heisenbug detector is ticking. I tried to reduce the size of batches and restarting OOo after each one; still, a small percentage of the documents are messed up. Of course I'll write about this on the Ooo mailing lists, but in the meanwhile, I have a delivery and lost too much time already. Where do I go? Completely avoid the ODT format and go for another template system. Suggestions? Anything that takes a few seconds to run is way too slow. OOo takes around a second and it sums to 15 days of processing time. I had to write a program for clustering the jobs over several clients. Keep the format but go for another tool/program for the conversion. Which one? There are many apps in the shareware or commercial repositories for windows, but trying each one is a daunting task. Some are too slow, some cannot be run in batch without buying it first, some cannot work from command line, etc. Open source tools tend not to reinvent the wheel and often depend on openoffice. Converting to an intermediate .DOC format could help to avoid the OOo bug, but it would double the processing time and complicate a task that is already too hairy. Try to produce the PDFs twice and compare them, discarding the whole batch if there's something wrong. Although the documents look equal, I know of no way to compare the binary content. Restart OOo after processing each document. it would take a lot more time to produce them it would lower the percentage of the wrong files, and make it very hard to identify them. Go for ReportLab and recreate the pages programmatically. This is the approach I'm going to try in a few minutes. Learn to properly format bulleted lists Thanks a lot.

There is also a Logger interface that defines the function __call, the latter logs what's needed and then relays the call to the target method. The only difficulty is to make each class, declared in the XML file, implement this interface with __call. So I would be able to see the stream of incoming revisions and mark which of them I already reviewed. • NHibernate - does it work well with database-level cascading deletions on foreign key constraints

  Dose nHibernate play well with database level cascading deletions? What I mean is that if I have a constraint set at the RDBMS level to cascade delete all orphans, will nHibernate invoke any custom delete logic at the application level if I were to delete an entity though nHibernate? Or should I remove the cascading deletions from the RDBMS level and just use the cascading delete feature of nHibernate itself by defining that behavior though its configuration? Thanks

  I've created a subclass of UITableViewCell to create some custom appearance and UI functionality ('swipe to reveal delete button'). Some of the cells are disclosure/detail disclosure type, and have a UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure etc added manually. I cannot use the table view controllers' UITableViewCellAccessory for row at index path method. The question is, how do I set the target of these manually added buttons so that they correctly send the didSelectRowAtIndexPath to their table view controller?

  Hi, I have an application that write huge .csv files about the size ranging from 1 GB to 2 GB. I need to color code the file and save it as .xlsx. So I have tried using Excel Interop and it works great for small files, but when I try to open a 1.3 GB .csv file with Excel, I get an Hresult error. Consider marking it with the DataContractAttribute attribute, and marking all of its members you want serialized with the DataMemberAttribute attribute. If the type is a collection, consider marking it with the CollectionDataContractAttribute. If I add the DataContract / DataMember attributes to the class and its appropriate members on the server-side, I receive an error that says: Type cannot be ISerializable and have DataContractAttribute attribute. How do I serialize MyException so that I can pass an instance of it to my WCF service. Please note, I want to use my service from an Android app. Because of this, I don't want to do anything too Microsoft centric. That was my fear with DataContract / DataMember stuff. I have found that the stream reader making use of it is calling GetNextChar() repeatedly even when my specilizaed DecoderFallbackBuffer.Remaining property returns 0 to indicate that there no more characters to return. The end result is that the stream reader gets into an infinite loop. Why is this happening?

There's SortedList which is good for a single value (frequency), but I want to map it back to the word. SortedDictionary orders by key, not value.
