• Force close when starting new activity

  I'm trying to launch a new activity from my main activity, but I just get error codes all the time. • Qthread - trouble shutting down threads

  For the last few days, I've been trying out the new preferred approach for using QThreads without subclassing QThread. The trouble I'm having is when I try to shutdown a set of threads that I created. I regularly get a "Destroyed while thread is still running" message (if I'm running in Debug mode, I also get a Segmentation Fault dialog). My code is very simple, and I've tried to follow the examples that I've been able to find on the internet. My basic setup is as follows: I've a simple class that I want to run in a separate thread; in fact, I want to run 5 instances of this class, each in a separate thread. I have a simple dialog with a button to start each thread, and a button to stop each thread (10 buttons). When I click one of the "start" buttons, a new instance of the test class is created, a new QThread is created, a movetothread is called to get the test class object to the thread...also, since I have a couple of other members in the test class that need to move to the thread, I call movetothread a few additional times with these other items. Note that one of these items is a QUdpSocket, and although this may not make sense, I wanted to make sure that sockets could be moved to a separate thread in this fashion...I haven't tested the use of the socket in the thread at this point. Starting of the threads all seem to work fine. When I use the linux top command to see if the threads are created and running, they show up as expected. The problem occurs when I begin stopping the threads. I randomly (or it appears to be random) get the error described above. • CFStrings and storing them into models, related topics

  I have a very frustrating issue that I believe involves CFStringRef and passing them along to custom model properties. The code is pretty messy right now as I am in a debug state, but I will try to describe the problem in words as best as I can. I have a custom model, User, which for irrelevant reasons, I am storing CF types derived from the Address Book API into. Examples include: Name, email as NSStrings. I am simply retrieving the CFStringRef value from the AddressBook API and casting as a string, whereupon I assign to the custom model instance and then CFRelease the string. These NSString properties are set as (nonatomic, retain). I then store this model into an NSArray, and I use this Array as a datasource for a UITableView When accessing the object in the cellForRowAtIndexPath, I get a memory access error. When I do a Debug, I see that the value for this datasource array appears at first glance to be corrupted. I've seen strange values assigned to it, including just plain strings, such as one that I fed to an NSLog function in earlier in the method. So, the thing that leads me to believe that this is Core Foundation related is that I am executing this exact same code, in the same class even, on non-Address Book data, in fact, just good old JSON parsed strings, which produce true Cocoa NSStrings, that I follow the same exact steps to create the datasource array. This code works fine. I have a feeling that my (retain) property declaration and/or my [stringVar release] in my custom model dealloc method may be causing memory problems (since it is my understanding that you shouldn't call a Cocoa retain or release on a CF object). Here is the code. I know some of this is super-roundabout but I was trying to make things as explicit as possible for the sake of debugging. • How can I hit my database with an AJAX call using javascript?

  I am pretty new at this stuff, so bear with me. I am using ASP.NET MVC. I have created an overlay to cover the page when someone clicks a button corresponding to a certain database entry. Because of this, ALL of my code for this functionality is in a .js file contained within my project. What I need to do is pull the info corresponding to my entry from the database itself using an AJAX call, and place that into my textboxes. Then, after the end-user has made the desired changes, I need to update that entry's values to match the input. I've been surfing the web for a while, and have failed to find an example that fits my needs effectively. • Passing an address inside a WordPress post to a Google Map elsewhere on the Page

  Background: My client is building their own WordPress site (using a purchased feature-rich theme), and I'm modifying a child theme as necessary to achieve customizations she wants. The theme comes with a Page template that includes a full-width Google Map across the top, which pulls its marker from a single address set within the Theme Options. It's meant to be used for one main "Contact Us" page. The client's business has several locations, and she wants each location's page to include such a map. (Example linked below.) It seems that the ideal solution would be the ability to specify an address within a shortcode in the Post, and have that set the map marker. Right now it's using the same map code as above. I've tried creating a shortcode that takes an address attribute and sets it as $mapAddress, but that didn't work. I believe it's because the map is already loaded by the time the Loop gets parsed. How can I tell Maps to "come back" to the post to get the proper address? My specialty lies in HTML & CSS, but Javascript befuddles me fairly easily, so please be explicit when explaining implementation. Bonus: A further goal is to have the locations' parent Page also include such a map, but have multiple markers representing the multiple locations. When taking more than one location, Google Maps only accepts latitude/longitude. I don't want my client to be concerned with coordinates, so I know there's got to be something I can do with the geocoding service so she can just input a list of addresses instead (into the same, or similar, shortcode solution developed for my main question). But I am extra-clueless about how to do that.

• Problem with incomplete type while trying to detect existence of a member function

  I was trying to detect existence of a member function for a class where the function tries to use an incomplete type. However when I replaced it with nearly an identical implementation as template<typename T> struct allocator { T* allocate(std::size_t n) { return (T*)operator new (sizeof(T)*n); } }; it gives an error saying that as T is incomplete type it has problem instantiating allocator<foo> because allocate uses sizeof. GCC 4.5 with std::allocator also gives the error, so it seems during detection process the class need to be completely instantiated, even when I am not using that function at all. What I was looking for is void* allocate(std::size_t) which is different from T* allocate(std::size_t). My questions are (I have three questions, but as they are correlated , so I thought it is better not to create three separate questions). Why MS std::allocator doesn't check for incomplete type foo while instantiating? Are they following any trick which can be implemented ? Why the compiler need to instantiate allocator<T> to check the existence of the function when sizeof is not used as sfinae mechanism to remove/add allocate in the overload resolutions set? It should be noted that, if I remove the generic implementation of allocate leaving the declaration only, and specialized it for foo afterwards such as struct foo{}; template< struct allocator { foo* allocate(std::size_t n) { return (foo*)operator new (sizeof(foo)*n); } }; after struct has_alloc it compiles in GCC 4.5 while gives error in VS2008 as allocator<T> is already instantiated and explicit specialization for allocator<foo> already defined. Is it legal to use nested types for an std::allocator of incomplete type such as typedef foo_alloc::pointer foo_pointer; ? Though it is practically working for me, I suspect the nested types such as pointer may depend on completeness of type it takes. It will be good to know if there is any possible way to typedef such types as foo_pointer where the type pointer depends on completeness of foo. NOTE : As the code is not copy paste from editor, it may have some syntax error. Will correct it if I find any. Also the codes (such as allocator) are not complete implementation, I simplified and typed only the portion which I think useful for this particular problem.

While this code compiles fine and works correctly under MSVC 2008 (displays 11), both MinGW/GCC and Comeau choke on the operator+ overload. For example I have a class that represents a set of bit-wise flags (shown below). It is made using a nested-class because you cannot have two variadic template arguments for the same class.   Basically, I'm trying to understand the difference between the "Break in Class Module" and "Break on Unhandled Errors" that appear in the Visual Basic 6.0 IDE under the following path: Tools --> Options --> General --> Error Trapping The three options appear to be: Break on All Errors Break in Class Module Break on Unhandled Errors Now, apparently, according to MSDN, the second option (Break in Class Module) really just means "Break on Unhandled Errors in Class Modules". Also, this option appears to be set by default (ie: I think its set to this out of the box). What I am trying to figure out is, if I have the second option selected, do I get the third option (Break on Unhandled Errors) for free? In that, does it come included by default for all scenarios outside of the Class Module spectrum? To advise, I don't have any Class Modules in my currently active project. I have .bas modules though. Also, is it possible that by Class Mdules they may be referring to normal .bas Modules as well? (this is my second sub-question). Basically, I just want the setting to ensure there won't be any surprises once the exe is released. I want as many errors to display as possible while I am developing, and non to be displayed when in release mode. Normally, I have two types of On Error Resume Next on my forms where there isn't explicit error handling, they are as follows: On Error Resume Next ' REQUIRED On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED The required ones are things like, checking to see if an array has any length, if a call to its UBound errors out, that means it has no length, if it returns a value 0 or more, then it does have length (and therefore, exists). These types of Error Statements need to remain active even while I am developing. However, the NOT REQUIRED ones shouldn't remain active while I am developing, so I have them all commented out to ensure that I catch all the errors that exist. Once I am ready to release the exe, I do a CTRL+H to find all occurrences of: 'On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED (You may have noticed they are commented out)... And replace them with: On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED ... The uncommented version, so that in release mode, if there are any leftover errors, they do not show to users. • DD-WRT No Internet connection over LAN

  I flashed the DD-WRT firmware on my TP-Link WR1043ND router and although after cloning the PC's MAC-Address it gets the correct IP from my ISP, the internet connection over LAN just won't work. The strange thing is it does work flawlessly over W-LAN, which tells me the problem should lie somehow in the default LAN settings or the PC. Any idea what the problem might be? • Weird WLAN connection

  I assembled my first computer on my own. As I realised it had no WLAN (AsRock Z77 Extreme 4m) I bought a WLAN stick (ZyXel NWD 2105), plugged it in, started the setup from the CD and it worked, until I restarted the PC. That's when the problems started. The stick is able to connect to the router (P-660HN-F1Z) and the connection is stable, but not the internet access. In estimately 1 minute intervals there might be a short connection timeframe and dropbox or windows update are able to download some data, but as soon as I try to open a website the internet access is away. Note that the connection to the router does not shut down and remains stable at around 80-90%. The problem is definetly located on my pc, because with my laptop and phone the connection is stable and fast. Because I was so pissed off, I bought a EW-7612PIn V2 (PCI-E WLAN adapter), same problem. Now the weird thing is, if I don't use the PC for about 2 days, start it up, there is internet access (happened with both the stick and the PCI-E card). A bit slow, but it does not get away just like that, until I shut it down. Then, no matter how many times I restart, it won't come back. I googled a lot but now I'm at the end with my latin. Has anyone had a similar problem and resolved it?   I would like to pass a parameter defined in the XAML (View) of my application to the ViewModel class by using the RelayCommand. I followed Josh Smith's excellent article on MVVM and have implemented the following. Part of "On The Fly Localization" In my particular implementation I want to create a SetLanguage RelayCommand that can be bound to multiple buttons. I would like to pass the two character language identifier ("en", "es", "ja", etc) as the CommandParameter and have that be defined for each "set language" button defined in the XAML. I want to avoid having to create a SetLanguageToXXX command for each language supporting and hard coding the two character language identifier into each RelayCommand in the ViewModel.

• Column Header for a WPF TreeView

  I am using the WPF TreeView to display some hierarchical information. I found two solutions that came close: 1) A TreeListView here, but this requires me to implement a custom interface (ITreeModel) to my model. Also the approach in this solution is to start with a ListView and to implement a RowExpander manually. In my case, the TreeView is sufficiently close to what I need, so I am hoping that putting a header on it should be very simple. 2) A TreeListView here. This one indeed starts with a TreeView, but I can't figure out how to customize the header. I suspect that I have to customize the GridViewHeaderRowPresenter in the generic.xaml, but this element does not seem to have its own ControlTemplate.

• CA2000 passing object reference to base constructor in C#

  I receive a warning when I run some code through Visual Studio's Code Analysis utility which I'm not sure how to resolve. Perhaps someone here has come across a similar issue, resolved it, and is willing to share their insight. I'm programming a custom-painted cell used in a DataGridView control. The code resembles: public class DataGridViewMyCustomColumn : DataGridViewColumn { public DataGridViewMyCustomColumn() : base(new DataGridViewMyCustomCell()) { } It generates the following warning: CA2000 : Microsoft.Reliability : In method 'DataGridViewMyCustomColumn.DataGridViewMyCustomColumn()' call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object 'new DataGridViewMyCustomCell()' before all references to it are out of scope. I understand it is warning me DataGridViewMyCustomCell (or a class that it inherits from) implements the IDisposable interface and the Dispose() method should be called to clean up any resources claimed by DataGridViewMyCustomCell when it is no longer. The examples I've seen on the internet suggest a using block to scope the lifetime of the object and have the system automatically dispose it, but base isn't recognized when moved into the body of the constructor so I can't write a using block around it... which I'm not sure I'd want to do anyway, since wouldn't that instruct the run time to free the object which could still be used later inside the base class? My question then, is the code okay as is? Or, how could it be refactored to resolve the warning? I don't want to suppress the warning unless it is truly appropriate to do so.

• Common Access Card (CAC) Authentication Using Java

  I'm bascially looking for someplace to start learning how to interface with a government CAC card using java. Ultimately, my goal is to find out how to use CAC card authentication (by PIN number) to authorize access to a website hosted using a Tomcat/J2EE server. But I'll need somewhere to start. So I figure I'd start by writing a small java program to simply read the CAC card information from the CAC card which is inserted into a card reader on my keyboard (DELL keyboard with CAC reader above the numeric keypad). By searching google, I found the cacard java project (https://cacard.dev.java.net/) which was replaced by the OpenSSO project. But I can't seem to find sample code of how to use it to connect to a card, read from a card, etc. Does anyone know where I can find some sample code so that I can start learning how to interact with a CAC card using java? Thanks EDIT: After researching more, I was thinking, would I be able to just set clientAuth="true" in the connector element in the server.xml file? http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/ssl-howto.html clientAuth: Set this value to true if you want Tomcat to require all SSL clients to present a client Certificate in order to use this socket.

• Using Visual Studio 2008 to Assemble, Link, Debug, and Execute MASM 6.11 Assembly Code

  I would like to use Visual Studio 2008 to the greatest extent possible while effectively compiling/linking/building/etc code as if all these build processes were being done by the tools provided with MASM 6.11. The exact version of MASM does not matter, so long as it's within the 6.x range, as that is what my college is using to teach 16-bit assembly. I have done some research on the subject and have come to the conclusion that there are several options: Reconfigure VS to call the MASM 6.11 executables with the same flags, etc as MASM 6.11 would natively do. Create intermediary batch file(s) to be called by VS to then invoke the proper commands for MASM's linker, etc. Reconfigure VS's built-in build tools/rules (assembler, linker, etc) to provide an environment identical to the one used by MASM 6.11. Option (2) was brought up when I realized that the options available in VS's "External Tools" interface may be insufficient to correctly invoke MASM's build tools, thus a batch file to interpret VS's strict method of passing arguments might be helpful, as a lot of my learning about how to get this working involved my manually calling ML.exe, LINK.exe, etc from the command prompt. Below are several links that may prove useful in answering my question. Please keep in mind that I have read them all and none are the actual solution. I can only hope my specifying MASM 6.11 doesn't prevent anyone from contributing a perhaps more generalized answer. • javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException after redeploying EJBs

  Using Glassfish 3.0.1 ... If I have a web application accessing EJBs in another application remotely, and the remote application containing the EJBs is redeployed, I get a javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException (see stacktrace below). Shouldn't this work? I can see that the EJB in question was successfully deployed, using the exact same JNDI name. Is there any other way to fix this than to restart the web application?   Demands / problems: I would like to bind multiple properties of an entity to controls in a form. Some of which are read only from time to time (according to business logic). When using an entity that implements INotifyPropertyChanged as the DataSource, every change notification refreshes all the controls bound to that data source (easy to verify - just bind two properties to two controls and invoke a change notification on one of them, you will see that both properties are hit and reevaluated). There should be user friendly error notifications (the entity implements IDataErrorInfo). (probably using ErrorProvider) Using the entity as the DataSource of the controls leads to performance issues and makes life harder when its time for a control to be read only. I thought of creating some kind of wrapper that holds the entity and a specific property so that each control would be bound to a different DataSource. Moreover, that wrapper could hold the ReadOnly indicator for that property so the control would be bound directly to that value. The wrapper could look like this: interface IPropertyWrapper : INotifyPropertyChanged, IDataErrorInfo { object Value { get; set; } bool IsReadOnly { get; } } But this means also a different ErrorProvider for each property (property wrapper) I feel like I'm trying to reinvent the wheel...   There is a static class Pipe, defined in C++ header that I'm including. The static method I'm interested in calling (from Objetive-c) is here: static ERC SendUserGet(const UserId &_idUser,const GUID &_idStyle,const ZoneId &_idZone,const char *_pszMsg); I have access to an objetive-c data structure that appears to store a copy of userID, and zoneID -- it looks like: @interface DataBlock : NSObject { GUID userID; GUID zoneID; } Looked up the GUID def, and its a struct with a bunch of overloaded operators for equality.
