• What could cause a returning function to crash? C++

  So I have been debugging this error for hours now. I writing a program using Ogre3d relevant only because it doesn't load symbols so it doesn't let me stack trace which made finding the location of the crash even harder. So, write before I call a specific function I print out "Starting" then I call the function and immediately after I print "Stopping". Throughout the function I print out letters A-F where F is printed right before the function returns (one line above the last '}') The weird thing is when the crash occurs it is after the 'F' is printed but there is no 'Stopping'. Does this mean that the crash is happening in between somewhere? The only thing I can think of is something going wrong during the deallocation of some of the memory allocated during the function. I've never had anything happen like this, I will keep checking to make sure it's going wrong where I think it is.

• Adding a row to a ListView that displays "Loading" while information is downloaded. Like in the Market.

  I've tried, but have had no luck trying to find this answer elsewhere. I want to add a row to the bottom of my listview that displays "Loading..." and maybe a spinning progress indicator. My program already loads additional information into the listview once the user scrolls to the bottom. But I want the user to be able to see that the program is indeed loading something. Example: If you go to the android marketplace and scroll to the bottom of one of the lists, the last row will say "Loading...". Then once the data is loaded, that bar is replaced with the first item of the new data. Sorry, it's a little hard to describe. I am NOT trying to add a footer to the bottom of the list view. I want it to be an actual item in the listview.

Background The facebook Data Store Admin tool is made available in a facebook App's Settings as seen here: (continue reading below) However when I visit the DataStoreAdmin link nothing works (i.e. clicking the buttons to define the data store types and objects does nothing - I have tried different browsers). The Wiki page for Data Store API hasn't been updated recently and the second last update says the beta Data Store was taken offline. It seems odd the link would be readily available and highly visible at the top of the App configuration area if indeed it's defunct. I was hoping some kind of key/value pair solution to remove the data calls from my own server.

  I want to pull from my database records corresponding to parent_id, like this: function getChildren($id, $parent_id) { $q = $this->db->select('id, name, slug, plat'); $q = $this->db->from('games'); $q = $this->db->where('parent_id',$id); $q = $this->db->or_where('id',$parent_id); $q = $this->db->get(); return $q->result_array(); } It - if it's a children game - get parent_id and search for a game with such id and for other games that has parent_id same as this one. If it's the parent game, it only looks for games with parent_id same as it's id. The problem is... it's not always working. I have four games in db: id | parent_id | title 15 | 0 | Abe 19 | 15 | Abe 20 | 0 | RE2 21 | 20 | RE2 DS First two works, last two - only children (id = 21) shows parent.

• Using modified date of file for comparison. Is it safe?

  I want to make a procedure that does one way syncrhonization of a folder between a server and a client. I was thinking to use ModifiedDate as a criterio, provided that only the date of the server files will be used. Procedure will not use Modified dates of files on the client at all. It will read dates from the server and compare them with dates read from the server last time the procedure run. Do you think this is safe? Is there any possibility that Modified Date will not be changed when a file is edited or it will be changed without touching the contents of the file (eg. from some strange antivirus programs)?

• Co-opt popular abandonware opensource project? Thoughts?

  Here's the scenario: A popular open source project is used/loved by many but has become stale due to the fact that the last drop came out nearly a year ago. Many bugs/feature requests/fixes have been logged in the interim and everyone is getting by via downloading the trunk and building custom/private builds with the changes incorporated. The copyright is simple -- there is none and the code is in the public domain. The project owner spins the project as community open source and has setup a sourceforge site, but to date (5 years running now) has yet to accept one contributor. In otherwords the "community" is a community of one. The project owner takes great pride in the project and has obviously contributed a lot of time/effort but for whatever reason has has seemingly abandoned the project and is unresponsive when offers of help are made. So, the question, should the community fork the codebase, setup a new community site, and take matters in their own hands?

• poplib and email module will not reloop through a message if it has alread read it

  I'm currently trying to write a script that gets messages from my gmail account but I'm noticing a problem. If poplib loops through a message in my inbox it will never loop through it again. • "Dereference" var in C#

  I have some code in C# that uses a structure as such: ArrayList addrs = new ArrayList(); byte[] addr = new byte[8]; while (oneWire.Search_GetNextDevice(addr)) { addrs.Add(addr); } In this example, every element in the ArrayList is the same as the last device that was found because it would appear as though addr is passed out by reference and I am simply copying that reference into the ArrayList. Is there any way to "Dereference" addr to only extract it's value? It's also possible my assessment of the situation is incorrect, if that appears to be the case, please let me know Thanks!

• Preserve trailing whitespace Sybase

  I have a big chunk of textual data which I split and write multiple rows of a varchar(255) column of a table. Sometimes, the last character happens to be a space. When I read back this row, the trailing space is chopped and I get only 254 characters. This messes up my data when I append the next row to the end of this one. My code sends the full 255 char (incl space) to the DB API. How can I check that the trailing space is actually written to the table? I am not in a position to rewrite/redesign legacy code. Is there any setting - either in the DB, DB interface, read/write calls etc - that I can use to preserve the trailing space?

• How can I convert this string to list of lists?

  Hi, what I'm trying to do is.. if a user types in [[0,0,0], [0,0,1], [1,1,0]] and press enter, the program should convert this string to several lists; one list holding [0][0][0], other for [0][0][1], and the last list for [1][1][0] I thought tuple thing would work out but no luck... :( I started phython yesterday -- (I'm C / C++ guy.) and cannot use the full advantages of this language... Does python have a good way to handle this? I need help~ :'(

I know C# and .net framework as a beginner.   I always assumed that changing the value of k from "x" to 20 would eliminate "x". So why then in this example are we able to go back and reference "x"? a = {} k = "x" a[k] = 10 print(a[k]) ---> Returns 10 print(a["x"]) ---> Returns 10 a[20] = "great" k = 20 print(a[k]) ---> "great" a["x"] = a["x"] + 1 print(a["x"]) --> 11 Why does that last print command work, and return 11? I thought we set k = 20. Why is "x" even in the picture?

  Hi all, i am wondering how can i select specific number of child objects instead of taking them all with include? lets say i have object 'Group' and i need to select last ten students that joined the group. When i use '.Include("Students"), EF includes all students. I was trying to use Take(10), but i am pretty new to EF and programming as well, so i couldn't figure it out. Any suggestions? UPDATED: ok, i have Group object already retrieved from db like this: Group group = db.Groups.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.GroupId == id) I know that i can add Include("Students") statement, but that would bring ALL students, and their number could be quite big whether i need only freshest 10 students. Can i do something like this: var groupWithStudents = group.Students.OrderByDescending(//...).Take(10);? The problem with this is that Take< no longer appears in intellisense. Is this clear enough? • Order of execution and style of coding in Python

  Hi guys. I am new to Python so please don't flame me if the question is too basic :) I have read that Python is executed from top - to - bottom. If this is the case, why do programs go like this: def func2(): def func1(): #call func2() def func() #call func1() if __name__ == '__main__': call func() So from what I have seen, the main function goes at last and the other functions are stacked on top of it. Am I wrong in saying this? If no, why isn't the main function or the function definitions written from top to bottom?

• Constantly getting ...DeviceMonitor] Failed to start monitoring

  I find that after running or debugging my application a few times using eclipse, that I get the above output in my console (in red) and I get no feedback from Dalvik as to the connection status to my phone is going. My application will still debug etc. I just get nothing useful in my Console. Any ideas how to fix this? It appears intermittent. It starts doing it after a few minutes, continues to do it for quite a while and occasionally goes away again. This has happened on my last laptop and now on my new laptop with a completely fresh install etc.

  I want to get the difference of two values within a time frame. so I have a table like this Data Table TimeStamp DataValue 2010-06-01 21 2010-06-03 33 2010-06-05 44 So I want to first get all data over the last month which I can do with something like. ([TimeStamp] < GETDATE()-0 and ([TimeStamp] > GETDATE()-31) But I want to see how much value added on over the course of the month. So it started at 21 and went to 44. So I would expect this example to to return 23 (as in 44-21). How would I build a query like this?

• jQuery .toggle() not working as expected with second function?!

  I'm trying to create a button to show / hide a div below it, all is working fine, I'm just struggling with the last bit! I need to distinguish wether it's a show or hide action so I can pass the variable elsewhere, here's what I have.. $(this).find('.hide-close').click( function() { $(this).siblings('.dragbox-content').toggle(function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Show'); },function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Hide'); } ); }) .end() }); If use the following code, taking out the second function within toggle(), it works?! I look at others like zencart but seem kinda dated compared to magento, but are their any other solutions to replace magento thats better and with a good online community? the main selling points im looking for are configurable items (as in options for products), good online community and not so hard to customize or a nice amount of templates available. has to be free and hopefully open source and if it helps this is for a custom car accessories store

  Hello, As you must have seen in gmail, a small popup appears to chat when you click on right bottom corner of your screen. Interestingly, this popup remains open and at the same place even when we navigate from one webpage to another. How can this be done? It doesn't look as though it's different page.
