I am very new in server management thing. I want to make email accounts like [email protected].
I know something to do with Sendmail thing , but dunno what ?
I am on Ubuntu 10 server.
I have a dual Xeon hex core machine running an IO intensive application. (WinXP 32) I am seeing a hardware driver (1/2 user mode, 1/2 kernel, streaming data) that is using 6k delta page faults per second. When other applications load or allocate large amounts of memory the driver's hardware buffer gets an underrun (application not feeding it fast enough).
Could this be because the kernel is only using one core to service page fault interrupts?
Basically, my wifi network simply stopped working for no apparent reason. It doesn't appear in the list of the available networks anymore. I can see all my neighbors' networks, but not mine. It's as if it doesn't exist anymore. The internet connection (non-wifi), which goes through the same modem/router, is fine though.
I already had a similar problem about one year ago (see here: Wifi network SSID not visible ), just after buying this very modem. I finally got it to work after performing two factory resets and getting rid of the Cisco "Magic" software; but this time it's not working.
I use a linksys router-modem (WAG320N) which is directly connected (via network cable) to my desktop computer (Windows 7). I have (mainly) two devices that use the wifi network: my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) and an Asus tablet (TF201, aka Transformer Prime). I also resurrected an old laptop computer (Dell, running Windows XP) to test that, and it doesn't see anything either (apart from the 20 other wifi networks, of course ^^).
This wifi network was working just fine and has been for about a year. I haven't touched the modem settings so I have no idea what's causing the problem.
I tried:
making my phone "forget" about my network, hoping it would see it again after that: no luck.
re-entering the network informations (SSID/password) manually on my phone: still no luck (says it's not in range)
exporting the modem configuration, resetting the modem (factory reset, via modem admin), restarting it, importing the configuration: nope.
factory reset, turning it off for 15 minutes, restarting, re-factory reset, and entering the configuration manually: still nothing.
Has anybody experienced something similar before?
Have you any suggestion to fix that?
Thanks in advance.
PS: to clear things up, here are the settings of my modem regarding wifi:

We have a switch (Cisco WS-C3750G-48TS) with only a C3750-IPBASE-M image (not a 'C3750-IPSERVICES-M' license). Is there any kind of multicast support here?
All I need it to do is route multicast packets to an RP (ip pim sparse-mode). Do we really need the service (C3750-IPSERVICES-M) license/image?. The uplink switch is running C3750-IPSERVICES-M, but this switch doesn't seem to carry any ability to configure multicast on an interface.
Consider that there are two server load balancers working in the tcp proxy mode (e.g., for L7 load balancing). Is it possible to synchronize their states in real time so that they can be a backup for each other? in case that one is down, the other still has all necessary states to uninterruptedly support all existing TCP connections.
I understand that this is hard, but I am wondering whether any free/commercial LB already supports this feature.
Thank you!
I want to close an open port which is in listening mode between my client and server application.
Is there any manual command line option in Linux to close a port ??
NOTE: I came to know that "only the application which owns the connected socket should close it, which will happen when the application terminates."
I dont understand why it is only possible by the application which opens it ... But still eager to know if there is any another way to do it ??
I know this is a real newbie question but what does it mean when someone says they "flushed the firewall". I got locked out of my server a few times due to the enhanced security configuration I had done and when I contacted my server management company, they said both times that they flushed the firewall and I was allowed back in.
I hope "flushing the firewall" doesn't mean they reduced the security settings at all.
My Lenovo Thinkpad X201 automatically changes display brightness from time to time. The specs do not mention an ambient light sensor. Power management settings are on Presentation (timers off). Any ideas on how to turn this behavior off?
I use a tk domain name and another web host to host my blog site.
I redirect DNS query to xxxhost.[myhost].com and tell my web host my domain name. (since my web host is virtual one)
This works OK.
But now I want to use an email service provided by third party, which requires adding a MX record to my DNS service. But this cannot be done on my web host management pages.
Is there any workaround for this?
If I physically turn off the monitor (DVI connection) and then turn it back on, the connection does not wake back up. The monitor enters "Power Saving" mode. I've tried unplugging the DVI cable and plugging back in, I've tried updating the video card drivers (it's Windows Vista; Windows 7 failed to install on this machine). I can use VNC to connect to the machine again, and after a reboot, the monitor works again.
Does anyone have any idea?
Hi!
I accidentally deleted a volume in windows disk management. Is there an easy way to undo that action? Or do I have to use a file recovery tool?
Thanks a lot!
This would be in OS X 10.6...
I know I can connect a server share as a volume and do so via a script so every time I boot up it gets mapped.
How can I make sure that same share is mapped after my computer comes out of sleep mode? It seems like the connection gets dropped. Can the same process map the drive for me when I boot up?
I'm currently evaluating whether to use RightScale to manage a production environment in EC2. I intend to use Puppet for configuration management either way (the declarative approach seems far better than running scripts), am running a somewhat nonstandard stack (e.g. MongoDB), and am uncertain about how much value RightScale would add relative to Puppet + Amazon's auto-scaling + another hosted monitoring system. Those who use RightScale, what features do you find important? Is its auto-scaling support (including keeping single instances running) more powerful than Amazon's?
I will be taking an independent study class on SQL server management. I will have to configure SQL Server 2008 on a Windows Server 2008 system. I was wondering if anyone could suggest decent text for configuration/administration of SQL Server 2008. The Murach text doesn't look like it will take me far.
I am having a problem with Windows 7 x64 consistently disconnecting one specific USB mass storage drive immediately after it is connected. The drive in question is a Cowon C2 digital music player which works in standard mass storage controller mode (i.e. no device-specific drivers needed/available).
When I connect the player, Windows plays the "USB connect" sound and the device appears (under its correct name) in the device manager, but it never appears as a drive. The player itself displays "USB Connected" for a split-second before reporting that it has been disconnected again. Since the player, by design, reboots after it has been disconnected, Windows plays the "USB disconnect" sound before restarting the whole cycle once the player has powered back on.
I am connecting the player through an Intel X79 Chipset motherboard (Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3) to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. The player used to work fine the first few times I connected it, showing up as an external drive; it only recently stopped working. It is not a problem with the player, since it works fine when connected to another computer, even such running the exact same operating system. It is also not a problem with the USB controller, since the issue is the same on both the Intel USB 2.0 and the Fresco Logic FL1009 USB 3.0 controller ports. I have also not had the problem with any other drive so far.
Among the things I have tried so far:
Disabling USB legacy mode in BIOS
Disabling energy-saving power down for all USB controllers in Windows' device manager
Removing and reinstalling Windows' USB mass storage driver
Removing and reinstalling Intel and Fresco Logic USB controller driver
Restoring the player to factory defaults
None of these made a difference. Again, the player used to work fine on the exact same system just days ago; I didn't install any new hardware or drivers on it since then. I would be very grateful for any hints on what else to try.
Edit: Here is another new hint; I found out that when I connect the drive before booting Windows, it is available in Windows Explorer as it should, and does not automatically disconnect. If I remove and reconnect it though, the infinite connect/disconnect-loop starts anew.
Whenever my pc boots it tries to start powerpoint, which crashes and asks if it should be started in safe mode.
After this wether you click yes or no powerpoint starts. How can I prevent powerpoint from starting with windows I can't find anything in msconfig, the startup manager of CCleaner or the startup folder.

Using Windows XP
Hi everyone,
I run Ubuntu, and If i type the following in a terminal, I start a new instance of memcached, right?
# memcached -vv
How can I target the the current instance of memcached in terminal?
It would help me to see the very-verbose mode on my already running instance.
Thanks
I'm testing out a Content management system on my computer and have emailed their support for a problem regarding login.. They've replied back and asked if my CMS is behind a portal or proxy. I feel kind of stupid for not knowing this, but how do I find out? Everything is local (eg, hosted on my computer, etc).
Thanks in advance!
When using Windows 7N and embedded videos for YouTube and the like my users have been getting a black box. I tracked this down to when HTML5 is being used for rendering. Other than putting a bunch of sites in compatibility mode or installing the Windows Media Pack (which resolves this issue) is there another route I can take?
My guess is it's only a single registry key or DLL that says 'I'm not HTML5 compatible' but I don't have any idea how to find it.
For some reason the recovery partition of windows is appearing while it is hidden. With hidden I mean hidden in Disk management and Diskpart. This partition causes the screen to flicker sometimes, as it is continuously switching between being visible and hidden. Sometimes however, it is just visible.
In the attached screenshots you can see the configuration.
Translation: partitie=partition, In orde = OK, Verborgen = hidden, Lokale schijf = local disk, Herstelpartitie = recovery partition
Although I opened explorer, set it to detailed and from options clicked Apply to All Folders, some folders still show up in Large Icon mode. To my understanding those are folders with media files? How to prevent this behavior?
I have this problem with my graphic-card(video card). Video card constantly crash because driver stopped. This is the massage that i get:
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver , Version 285.62 stopped
responding and has successfully recovered.
Video card : MSI GTX470 Twin Frozr
Motherboard:Asus P8Z68 V-Pro
Tried reinstalling drivers but doesn't help.
Any ideas what can be ?
Is there a native way to get a simple HTML / XML & XSD output for Apache VHost and Directives?
On console I write:
apachectl -S
If there is no native one, is there an (open) Script / Tool (php, perl, etc.) managing this.
I'm NOT looking for server management but just for a "server config overview" which might be (iframe) included in a wiki page for references on different development machines.
my laptop starts up and bring the message or window of abrupt power failure and when i try to to start normally or in safe mode a blue screen of error or disk check just splashes and it tries to reboot again and the problem persists. can someone help
