  • JQuyer slide and stop issues: animated element freezes with quick mouse movement

    - by sherlock
    Here is Zi JsFiddle. In order to replicate my issue you have to hover over the link that says 'javascript', then mouseout that, then mouseback in. If you do this before the animation is complete, the pink slidedown #subMenu will freeze midway through sliding. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I have tried some .stop()s , but i really don't want the animation to re-start every time you mouseenter or leave the .navLink . The animation should begin from where it left off. In other words, if the pink section is halfway down, and a slideDown() gets executed, the pink should not dissappear and then slide down, it should slide down from where it is. Thanks!! JS: $('header#subHeader').hide(); $('.navLink').hover(function () { if ($(this).children('div').length > 0) { var subMenu = $(this).find('.subMenu').html(); $('header#subHeader').empty().append('<div>' + subMenu + '</div>').stop().slideDown(); } else { $('header#subHeader').stop().slideUp(); } }); $('hgroup:first').on('mouseleave', function(){ $('header#subHeader').slideUp(); });

  • Updating Embedded Video in Firefox

    - by Slevin
I am working on a Videos page where my intention is to load a video with the page but by clicking a link, the original video will be updated and replaced with the corresponding video. For instance, if video1 loads with the page and the user clicks to view video2, the original div's innerHTML holding video1 is updated to play video2. Now, I have works great in IE and Chrome but nothing loads at all in Firefox. Below are some snippets of my code. Any idea how to load these videos in a manner that Firefox supports? Javascript Function function updateVideo(arraynum) { var arraynum; var vidId = document.anchors(arraynum).name; document.getElementById("movieDiv").innerHTML = "<object width='340' height='300'><param name='movie' value='http://www.youtube.com/v/" + vidId + "&h1=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b'></param><param name='wmode' value='opaque'></param><embed src='http://www.youtube.com/v/" + vidId + "&h1=en&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='opaque' width='340' height='300'></embed></object>"; Html <div id = "movieDiv"> </div> Links <a name="-MQf_Ol00nk" href = "#" onclick="updateVideo(4)"><img src="../images/content/videos/kaleidoscope/2010/May/Arts-and-Events.jpg" border = "0"></a> Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. And on a smaller note, every time a link in clicked in IE, a '#' is added into the title bar. So clicking three or four videos would result in the page title being followed up with three or four # signs.

  • History.js not working in Internet Explorer

    - by Wilcoholic
    I am trying to get history.js to work in Internet Explorer because I need history.pushState() to work. I have read over the instructions on GitHub (https://github.com/balupton/History.js/) and have tried implementing it, but havent had any success. Here's what I have <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <!-- jQuery --> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <!-- History.js --> <script defer src="http://balupton.github.com/history.js/scripts/bundled/html4+html5/jquery.history.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function addHistory(){ // Prepare var History = window.History; // Note: We are using a capital H instead of a lower h // Change our States History.pushState(null, null, "?mylink.html"); } </script> </head> <body> <a href="mylink.html">My Link</a> <a href="otherlink.html">Other Link</a> <button onclick="addHistory()" type="button">Add History</button> </body> Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it's definitely not working in IE. Any help is appreciated

  • How does this Bookmarklet allow you to stay signed into this site?

    - by Abs
Hello all, I have come across Evernote's bookmarklet and was wondering how this worked. You can just drag it to your bookmark and go to any webpage, click that bookmarklet and it will first ask you to login in. All this I have done already and know how it works. The bit that I don't understand is that when you log in they authenticate you and allow you to submit stuff (in this case, a site url etc). When you are done the bookmarklet which placed a small overlay on the page you are viewing disappears. When you go to a new tab and use the bookmarklet again you are still logged in! How? I can see they are using an iFrame when their bookmarklet loads the overlay onto the page - but do they set cookies or something? If so, is this secure? Anyone can change the values? Or are they using some sort of private/public key system Btw, I would like to replicate this Bookmarklet using PHP/Javascript(JQuery maybe). I would appreciate if anyone can help me understand how they do this or point me to relevant tutorials. Thanks all for any help.

  • jQuery slideToggle jump on close

    - by spankmaster79
Hi, I'm trying to slideToggle a in a table with jQuery and it works in FF, OP, CHrome. Only IE (6,7,8) is giving me problems. It slides down perfectly down and up, but after the slide up animation is finished. The hidden pops up in full height and then closes. So I guess it must be somwhere inbetween when it switches from a minimal height to "display:none" that it appears for a short second. The code is built dynamically but I'll try to give an example: <table> <tr> <td> <script type="text/javascript"> function toggleTr_{$dynamicID}() { $('#content_{$dynamicID}').slideToggle('slow'); /* DO SOME OTHER STOFF LIKE COLOR CHANGES CSS CLASS CHANGES */ } </script> </td> </tr> <tr id="list_{$dynamicID}" onclick="toggleTr_{$dynamicID}();" style="cursor:pointer;"> <td> <!-- INFO HEADER --> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <div id="content_{$dynamicID}" style="display:none;"> <!-- INFO BODY HIDDEN --> </div </td> </tr> Other problems here with slideToggle only descibed problems with padding, margin, or problems with the animation, but that all works. Help is appreciated. Thx, Spanky

  • jQuery remove SELECT options based on another SELECT selected on change and on load

    - by John Sieber
I'm using the following jQuery code to remove options from a select and it is working well. But instead of it only executing when the theOption2 select is changed I would also like it to work when the page is loaded depending on the selected item that is selected. I tried using the a copy of the script and changing the .change to .load and also tried using (window).load without the desired results. Essentially, I need the script to execute on change of the Options1 and on the loading of the page. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { //copy the second select, so we can easily reset it var selectClone = $('#theOptions2').clone(); $('#theOptions1').change(function() { var val = parseInt($(this).val()); //reset the second select on each change $('#theOptions2').html(selectClone.html()) switch(val) { //if 2 is selected remove C case 2 : $('#theOptions2').find('option:contains(c)').remove();break; //if 3 is selected remove A case 3 : $('#theOptions2').find('option:contains(a)').remove();break; } }); }); </script> <select id="theOptions1"> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2" selected="selected">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> </select> <br /> <select id="theOptions2"> <option>a</option> <option>b</option> <option>c</option> </select>

  • Why does my JQuery Image swap not work in firefox or chrome, but fine in IE?

    - by Cognize
    Hi, Relatively new to JQuery. I've got some code that does a banner swap with a fade in fade out transition. The images swap as expected in IE8, chrome, and firefox. However, the actual fade, the smooth transition between images only works in IE. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a fix? Javascript: function swapImages() { var $active = $('#transitionImagePlaceHolder .active'); var $next = ($('#transitionImagePlaceHolder .active').next().length > 0) ? $('#transitionImagePlaceHolder .active').next() : $('#transitionImagePlaceHolder img:first'); $active.fadeOut( 'slow', function () { $next.fadeIn('slow').addClass('active'); $active.removeClass('active'); }); } $(document).ready(function () { setInterval('swapImages()', 5000); }); CSS: #transitionImagePlaceHolder { } #transitionImagePlaceHolder { position:relative; left: 26px; } #transitionImagePlaceHolder img { display:none; position:absolute; top:4; left:10; } HTML: <div id="transitionImagePlaceHolder"> <img class="active" src="Images/TransitionImages/Trans_Img_1.jpg" /> <img src="Images/TransitionImages/Trans_Img_2.jpg" /> <img src="Images/TransitionImages/Trans_Img_3.jpg" /> </div>

  • Client Side Only Cookies

    - by Mike Jones
I need something like a cookie, but I specifically don't want it going back to the server. I call it a "client side session cookie" but any reasonable mechanism would be great. Basically, I want to store some data encrypted on the server, and have the user type a password into the browser. The browser decrypts the data with the password (or creates and encrypts the data with the password) and the server stores only encrypted data. To keep the data secure on the server, the server should not store and should never receive the password. Ideally there should be a cookie session expiration to clean up. Of course I need it be available on multiple pages as the user walks through the web site. The best I can come up with is some sort of iframe mechanism to store the data in javascript variables, but that is ugly. Does anyone have any ideas how to implement something like this? FWIW, the platform is ASP.NET, but I don't suppose that matters. It needs to support a broad range of browsers, including mobile. In response to one answer below, let me clarify. My question is not how to achieve the crypto, that isn't a problem. The question is where to store the password so that it is persistent from page to page, but not beyond a session, and in such a way that the server doesn't see it.

  • Accessing the calling object into ajax response... (not the ajax call)

    - by Nishchay Sharma
I have an object of type Application (defined by me). Whenever an object of this type is created, it automatically loads a php file say "start.php" using jquery ajax and assign the response to a div say "Respo". Now what i want is to access the Application object from that Respo div. Unfortunately, i have no clue how to do this... in my ajax call: function Application(options) { ....... var appObj=this; $.ajax({ url:appObj.location, //Already defined success:function(data) { $("#respo").html(data); } }); } Now in my Respo division i want to access that Application object... I tried: alert(this) but it resulted in an object of DOMWindow... i tried editing success function as: function Application(options) { ....... var appObj=this; $.ajax({ url:appObj.location, //Already defined success:function(data) { $("#respo").html("<script type='text/javascript'>var Self="+appObj+"</script>"); $("#respo").html(data); } }); } But i ended nowhere. :( Although if i assign "var Self='nishchay';" then alerting Self from start.php gives nishchay but i am not able to assign the calling object of Application type to the Self variable. It is the only way I cud think of. :\ Please help me... actually my object has some editing functions to control itself - its look and feel and some other options. I want the code loaded by object to control the object itself. Please help me.. Thanks in advance. Nishchay

  • HTML5 Video Element on iPad doesn't fire onclick?

    - by bhups
I am using the video element in my HTML as following:<div id="container" style="background:black; overflow:hidden;width:320px;height:240px" <video style="background:black;display:block" id="vdo" height="240px" width="320px" src="http://mydomain/vid.mp4"</video</div And in javascript I am doing this:var video=document.getElementById('vdo'); var container=document.getElementById('container'); video.addEventListener('click', function(e) { e.preventDefault(); console.log("clicked"); }, false); container.addEventListener('click', function(e) { e.preventDefault(); console.log("clicked"); }, false); On desktop safari/chrome everything is working fine. I can see two "clicked" in the console. But on ipad there is nothing. First I tried with iOS versin 3.2, then I updated it to the latest one 4.2.1 without any success.I found a similar question HTML5 Video Element on iPad doesn't fire onclick or touchstart events? where it suggests not to use controls in video tag and I am not using it.

Why is this happening?

  • Is it true that in most Object Oriented Programming Languages, an "i" in an instance method always r

    - by Jian Lin
In the following code: <script type="text/javascript"> var i = 10; function Circle(radius) { this.r = radius; this.i = radius; } Circle.i = 123; Circle.prototype.area = function() { alert(i); } var c = new Circle(1); var a = c.area(); </script> What is being alerted? The answer is at the end of this question. I found that the i in the alert call either refers to any local (if any), or the global variable. There is no way that it can be the instance variable or the class variable even when there is no local and no global defined. To refer to the instance variable i, we need this.i, and to the class variable i, we need Circle.i. Is this actually true for almost all Object oriented programming languages? Any exception? Are there cases that when there is no local and no global, it will look up the instance variable and then the class variable scope? (or in this case, are those called scope?) the answer is: 10 is being alerted.

  • Object inside of array -- works in one scope but not in another?

    - by Earlz
Ok I've been learning some of the more advanced aspects of Javascript and now trying to use this I'm stuck. Here is my code: function Data(){} function init(state){ var item; item=new Data(); item.fieldrid=17; item.description='foo'; state.push(item); }; function findInState(state, fieldrid) { for (var item in state) { alert(item.fieldrid); //prints undefined if (item.fieldrid == fieldrid) { return item; } } return null; } var s=[]; init(s); alert(s[0].fieldrid); //prints 17 (expected) alert(findInState(s,17).fieldrid); //exception here. function returns null. A running example is here at jsbin Why does this not work? I would expect the alert in findInState to yield 17 but instead it yields undefined. What am I doing wrong?

  • Problem with making a simple JS XmlHttpRequest call

    - by recipriversexclusion
I have to create a very simple client that makes GET and POST calls to our server and parses the returned XML. I am writing this in JavaScript, problem is I don't know how to program in JS (started to look into this just this morning)! As n initial test, I am trying to ping to the Twitter API, here's the function that gets called when user enters the URL http://api.twitter.com/1/users/lookup.xml and hits the submit button: function doRequest() { var req_url, req_type, body; req_url = document.getElementById('server_url').value; req_type = document.getElementById('request_type').value; alert("Connecting to url: " + req_url + " with HTTP method: " + req_type); req = new XMLHttpRequest(); req.open(req_type, req_url, false, "username", "passwd");// synchronous conn req.onreadystatechange=function() { if (req.readyState == 4) { alert(req.status); } } req.send(null); } When I run this on FF, I get a Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012 error on Firebug. Stuff I googled suggested that this was a FF-specific problem so I switched to Chrome. Over there, the second alert comes up, but displays 0 as HTTP status code, which I found weird. Can anyone spot what the problem is? People say this stuff is easier to use with JQuery but learning that on top of JS syntax is a bit too much now.

  • IE8 ignores jQuery UI 'dialog' minHeight and height settings

    - by Kev
    I'm using jQuery 1.4.4 with jQueryUI 1.8.7 to display a modal dialog box. I'm having a problem where IE8 renders a scrollbar and appears to ignore the minHeight and height options in all the many different combinations I've tried them in. In Chrome 8 and Firefox 3.6 my dialogue looks like: In IE 8 it looks like: The markup and script looks like: <a id="create" href="#">Create New Thing</a> <div id="dlg-create-thing" title="Create new thing?"> <form name="create-thing-form" id="dlg-create-thing-form"> <p style="text-align:left"> <span>Name: <input id="thingName" name="thingName" maxlength="12" size="30" /></span> <br /><br /> <b>Thing options:</b><br /><br /> <input type="radio" id="option1" name="theoptions" value="0" checked="checked" />Use this option<br /> <input type="radio" id="option1AndMem" name="theoptions" value="1" />Use this other option </p> </form> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { $("#dlg-create-thing").dialog({ autoOpen: false, resizable: false, width: 500, modal: true, minHeight: 280, buttons: { "Create": function () { /* do stuff */ }, "Cancel": function () { /* do other stuff */} } }); $("body").delegate("a[id='create']", "click", function () { $("#dlg-create-thing").dialog('open'); return false; } ); }); </script> How can I fix this (preferably in a nice browser agnostic way, but I'd settle for anything)?

  • Can JQuery.Validate plugin prevent submission of an Ajax form

    - by berko
I am using the JQuery form plugin (http://malsup.com/jquery/form/) to handle the ajax submission of a form. I also have JQuery.Validate (http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation) plugged in for my client side validation. What I am seeing is that the validation fails when I expect it to however it does not stop the form from submitting. When I was using a traditional form (i.e. non-ajax) the validation failing prevented the form for submitting at all.... which is my desired behaviour. I know that the validation is hooked up correctly as the validation messages still appear after the ajax submit has happened. So what I am I missing that is preventing my desired behaviour? Sample code below.... <form id="searchForm" method="post" action="/User/GetDetails"> <input id="username" name="username" type="text" value="user.name" /> <input id="submit" name="submit" type="submit" value="Search" /> </form> <div id="detailsView"> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> var options = { target: '#detailsView' }; $('#searchForm').ajaxForm(options); $('#searchForm').validate({ rules: { username: {required:true}}, messages: { username: {required:"Username is a required field."}} }); </script>

  • Web page for IPhone - Large fonts instead of scrolling?

    - by chris_l
I'm planning the layout of my web page, which should also be usable on the IPhone. I don't really have much experience with the IPhone yet - I just installed the IPhone Simulator on my Mac. The page's contents are flexible, so I think it would be better to use this flexibility to avoid that the user has to scroll around the entire page. Especially I have A header and a sidebar that will be used all the time to perform several actions. A main content area with a number of elements (e.g. images). The UI would stay usable pretty well, if the number of elements shown at one time is reduced for a small screen (e.g. by JavaScript). It would also be okay to make the main content area scrollable (as opposed to the entire page). The problem: If I simply display the page on the IPhone, it uses an extremely small font size, so that users must zoom in first, and then scroll around - so that they can't see the header and sidebar all the time. What's the best way to deal with this situation? Just leave it this way (very small fonts), because users expect that behaviour on the IPhone? Increase the font size (by specifying it in em or px or with xx-large, or what would be the best way?), if I detect - somehow - that it's being displayed on the IPhone. Or is there some way to restrict the viewport size to the screen size, and make it zoom in automatically? I think that would be the easiest solution in my case. Or ...?

  • multiple form submission with one submit

    - by skylab
I've been trying to think this through and figure out if it is possible or not. I'm using zen-cart as shopping cart software, but what I'd like to do, is hard code a page that is basically a list of 7-9 products, next to each product is a checkbox, so I'd like to figure out a way, via html, javascript or jquery to submit whichever forms(products) are checked to the cart. The typical form submission for a product looks something like this(sometimes there may be one or two additional hidden fields): <form name="cart_quantity" action="index.php?action=add_product" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <input type="hidden" name="cart_quantity" value="1"> <input type="hidden" name="products_id" value="7"> <input type="hidden" name="id[6]" value="9" id="attrib-6-9"> <input type="image" src="buy_button.png" alt="Add to Cart" title="Instructional Video Part 1: Add to Cart"> </form> There would be 7-9 of these on the page, each with a checkbox, so I'm assuming a script would need to figure out which ones where checked and submit them via the form action? Maybe there is a better way of going about this that I'm not thinking of because a)it's over my head or b)just haven't figured it out yet. Anyway is something like this possible?

  • Javascipt Regular Expression

    - by Ghoul Fool
Having problems with regular expressions in JavaScript. I've got a number of strings that need delimiting by commas. Unfortunately the sub strings don't have quotes around them which would make life easier. var str1 = "Three Blind Mice 13 Agents of Cheese Super 18" var str2 = "An Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe 7 Pixies None 12" var str3 = "The Cow Jumped Over The Moon 21 Crazy Cow Tales Wonderful 9" They are in the form of PHRASE1 (Mixed type with spaces") INTEGER1 (1 or two digit) PHRASE2 (Mixed type with spaces") WORD1 (single word mixed type, no spaces) INTEGER2 (1 or two digit) so I should get: result1 = "Three Blind Mice, 13, Agents of Cheese, Super, 18" result2 = "An Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, 7, Pixies, None, 12" result3 = "A Cow Jumped Over The Moon, 21, Crazy Cow Tales, Wonderful, 9" I've looked at txt2re.com, but can't quite get what I need and ended up delimiting by hand. But I'm sure it can be done, albeit someone with a bigger brain. There are lots of examples of regEx but I couldn't find any to deal with phrases; so I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Thank you.

  • How to search within an xml data set?

    - by user187580
Hi, I have some xml data and I am trying to keyword search data. For example, if I search "some" for the following data it returns me the <id> and <title>. <resource> <id>101</id> <title>Test Environment</title> <description><b>Some</b> description. </description> <type>classroom</type> </resource> <resource> <id>102</id> <title>ABC Test Environment</title> <description><b>Some</b> another description. </description> <type>classroom</type> </resource> ... I had a look on on xpath e.g. $xml->xpath('//title') but looks for elements only. Basically what I need to do is to create a functionality where users can keyword search within the above data set which I receive from third party api in the above format. Any ideas how I can achieve this? using PHP/ Javascript etc. Thanks.

  • Suitable data structures for saving files in localStorage (HTML5) ?

    - by WmasterJ
It is nice when there isn't a DB to maintain and users to authenticate. My professor has asked me to convert a recent research project of his that uses Bespin and calculates errors made by users in a code editor as part of his research. The goal is to convert from MySQL to using HTML5 localStorage completely. Doesn't seem so hard to do, even though digging in his code might take some time. Question: I need to store files and state (last placement of cursor and active file). I have already done so by implementing the recommendations in another stackoverflow thread. But would like your input considering how to structure the content to use. My current solution Hashmap like solution with javascript objects: files = {}; // later, saving files[fileName] = data; And then storing in localStorage using some recommendations localStorage.setObject("files", files); // Note that setObject(key, data) does not exist but is added // using Storage.prototype.setObject = function() {... Currently I'm also considering using some type of numeric id. So that names can be changed without any hassle renaming the key in the hashmap. What is your opinion on the way it is solved and would you do it any differently?

  • Updating table row by given id with jQuery

    - by fabrik
Hello all! I need to update a specific table row (via tr id="unique_key") after a successful AJAX call. HTML fragment: <a name=\"p{$product_id}\" class=\"tr{$product_id}\"></a> <tr id="p{product_id}" class="item-row"> <td><h3>{product_id}</h3><a rel="facebox" href="ajax_url">{product_name}</a></td> <td>{image_information}</td> <td>{image_sortiment}</td> <td>{product_status}</td> </tr> Javascript: // AJAX Call success: function(msg){ $('#p' + prod_id).remove(); $('.tr' + prod_id).after(msg); $('#p' + prod_id + ' a[rel*=facebox]').facebox(); } ... What happens: The table row removed Anchors grouped into one single row (not before their <tr>'s) so my 'hook' disappears AJAX result inserted over the whole table (after my 'hook' but still a wrong place) What's wrong with my idea? How can i force jQuery to 'overwrite' the required table row?
