• Does duplicate id's screw up jquery selectors?

  If I had two divs, both with id="myDiv" Would $("#myDiv").fadeOut(); fade both divs out? Or would it fade only the first/second? Or none at all? How do I change which one it fades out? Note: I know duplicate id's is against standards but I'm using the fancybox modal popup and it duplicates specified content on your page for the content of the popup. If anyone knows a way around this (maybe I'm using fancybox wrong) please let me know.

  I was reading about buffer, stack and heap overflows. I read this post as well. my question is like that: if I use only global variables in my code, can I say it prevents all the exploits of overflow? let's say I have this buffers in code declared in the global scope: char buf1[10]; char buf2[100]; If I send buf1 as the buffer to recv(int s, char *buf, int len,int flags); I will overwrite the data segment and may ruin the buf2 content, right? Would I be able to run a code from it because as I know it is not a code segment and data segment is not executable. Can we conclude that using Globals is the safest way?

• deleting a large number of rows from a table

  We have a requirement to delete rows in the order of millions from multiple tables as a batch job (note that we are not deleting all the rows, we are deleting based on a timestamp stored in an indexed column). Obviously a normal DELETE takes forever (because of logging, referential constraint checking etc.). I know in the LUW world, we have ALTER TABLE NOT LOGGED INITIALLY but I can't seem to find the an equivalent SQL statement for DB2 v8 z/OS. Any one has any ideas on how to do this really fast? Also, any ideas on how to avoid the referential checks when deleting the rows? Please let me know.

• Alternate to control+drag to connect view element with file owner in xCode interface builder?

  Working on an iPhone application through a TightVNC connection into a Mac Mini; the control+drag operation in Interface Builder to connect a view element to file owner doesn't work - I don't see the connecting line. It does work when I connect keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Mini and work on it directly, however it is a lot more convenient for me to run it through a VNC connection. Must be some quirk of the TightVNC connection that is preventing this. I tried different TightVNC settings for the cursor (let server handle it and so on) but no luck. Is there an alternative to control+drag to hook up outlets?

  I think the best way to explain this is to tell you what I have. I have two tables A and B both have columns Field1 and Field2. However Field 2 is not populated in table B I want to populate field 2 of table B with field 2 of table A where field 1 of table A matches field 1 of table B. something like update tableB set Field2 = tableA.field2 where tablea.field1 = tableb.field1. The reason this may seem so odd and obscure is that I'm tyring to do an inital data load form an old database to a new one. please let me know if you need clarification

  I understand the consepts of RegEx, but this is more or less the first time I've actually been trying to write some myself. As a part of a project, I'm attempting to parse out strings which match to a certain domain (actually an array of domains, but let's keep it simple). At first I started out with this: url.match('www.example.com') But I noticed I was also getting input like this: http://www.someothersite.com/page?ref=http://www.example.com These rows will ofcourse match for www.example.com but I wish to exclude them. So I was thinking along these lines: Only match rows that contain www.example.com, but not after a ? character. This is what I came up with: var reg = new RegExp("[^\\?]*" + url + "(\\.*)", "gi"); This does however not seem to work, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I fear I've used what little knowledge I yet possess in the matter.

• 3d movement around a sphere

  Hey guys, Im working in 3d for the first time in a long time. Basically im rotating a sphere and projecting x y z cords to place things on the surface based on the spheres X and Y rotation. Heres the code im using: #define piover180 0.01745329252f GLfloat cosy = cos(yrot * piover180); island[i].x = rad * sin(xrot * piover180)* cosy; island[i].y = rad * sin(yrot * piover180); island[i].z = rad * cos(xrot * piover180) * cosy; Problem is the Xrot positioning works fine but the Yrot placement always draw the objects into the north and south pole so they all cross at the top, which isnt correct for rotating.   I have a project with it depends on another project Core, i use svn:external to maintain the dependency. when i go to create an update of my project, i export those changed files of two tags of my project, but the changed files in Core won't be exported. For example, my project 2.0 depends on Core 1.0, where 3.0 depends on Core 2.0, then i create an update, changed files of my project 3.0 will all be exported, but none of those in Core 2.0 This can be done thru a two-steps process, first export changed files of the project 3.0, then the Core 2.0, it is ok if i can remember it everytime when i create an update, but in case i forget someday, the broken update will most probably cause a crash. I wonder, is there a way to cover this situation in TortoiseSVN, will let me do it in one operation? I use TortoiseSVN + VisualSVN

  Hello, I've been trying to solve this problem for quite sometime but I am having trouble with it. Let's say on a trigger, you receive values. First trigger: You get 1 Second trigger: You get 1, 2 Third trigger: You get 1, 2, 3 So, I store 1. For 2nd trigger, I store 2 since 1 already exist. For 3rd trigger, I store 3 since 1,2 already exist so in total I have stored 1,2,3 As you can see, we can easily check for new values, if old != new. Here's come the problem: Fourth trigger: You get 1, 2, 4 For 4th trigger, I store 1, 2 because it exists but how do I check against 3 and remove 3 from store and check if 4 is new?   Anyone have a good algorithm how to parse a String to TreeNode in Java? Let's say we have a string s which says how to build a TreeNode. A(B,C) means that A is the name (String) of TreeNode, B is child of A (Treenode), C is sibling of A (TreeNode). So if I call function with string A(B(D,E(F,G)),C) (just a example), then I get a TreeNode equals to: level A (String: name), B - Child (TreeNode), C - Sibling (TreeNode) level B (String: name), D - Child of B (TreeNode), E - Sibling of B (TreeNode) level E (String: name), F - Child of E (TreeNode), G - Sibling of E (TreeNode) The name may not be 1 letter, it could be like real name (many letters).

  Let's say I have a Person table with a FirstName and LastName column. I extended the Person LINQ entity class with a get property "FullName", that concatenates the first and last names. A LINQ query like: from person... select fullName where id = x generates SQL selecting all Patient columns, since FullName is evaluated after firing the query. I would like to limit the select clause to only the 2 columns required. This is a simple example, but the limitation it shows is that I cannot isolate my business/formatting rules but have to embed them in the LINQ query, so they're not reusable (since it is in the select part) or I need select both columns separately, and then concatenate them higher up in the data or business layer with static helper methods. Any ideas for a clean design using the entity partial classes or extensions? Thanks

• How can I send an array of strings from one ASP.NET page to another?

  Hello. I now have two asp.net pages. When I click on a link on page A, I open the other one (let's call it page B). When I do this, I want to send some information from Page A to Page B in the form of an array of strings. This array is different depending on what link I follow on Page A. I know I could send this information via the URL with the ?string1=bla1&string2=bla2 etc., but I don't want it that way, as it can get complicated if there are too many strings in the array. • Django form to enter/save html to database

  I'm in my first week of Django development and am working on an admin page that will let me write some quick html using TinyMCE and then save it to the database. I don't need to display this web page on the site or add it to urls.py, etc. The html snippet will be loaded from the database and used in a view function. I've read in "Practical Django Projects" how to integrate TinyMCE, so my question is more concerned with the best approach for the form itself. Specifically: 1. Is there a built-in form like flatpage that works well for this? I only need one field in the form for the html. 2. How do I save the form's text after it's entered? • How can you buffer two online videos alternately while playing one of them?

  On my website, I want my user to be able to launch video 2 at any point in the middle of video 1 without waiting or refreshing the window. How can I buffer the two videos such that I buffer video 1 enough to let it start playing, and then buffer just enough of video 2 that if the user launches it at any point, he does not have to wait to view its first few seconds, and then I can come back and buffer the rest of video 1? If this is not possible, I could also look at buffering video 1 and 2 in parallel while playing only video 1. Thanks!

  I haven't found similiar post so I'm asking this. Let's say I defined somewhere an application wide available static Property (I mean it's not local) and in one class I would like to know when this property is being changed. Apart from aop (transparentproxy etc.) which I think doesn't suit me well here (and I can't add that to project anyway), what are the options here? One solution I can think of, which is probably a very nasty one, is to use some event that would be executed in the setter and just attach it in the class(es) which needs that. Something like: public static event EventHandler CurrentNumberChanged= delegate {}; public static int CurrentNumber { get { return currentNumber; } set { currentNumber = value; CurrentNumberChanged(null, EventArgs.Empty); } } I know it's really unsafe to use such events ( read here ). And since I would use it in asp.net makes it even more ugly. Do you have any advices ?

I have an executable (PE) file that load a dll file as represented in the Import table... let say: PEFile.exe Modules.dll my question is how can i remove Modules.dll's import_descriptor from the imports and do its work by loadLibrary without the rely on the import table and without destroy the file???... My bigger problem his i could not understand exactly how the Import thing works... after the loader read the information he needs to do the import's thing, i believe he use the LoadLibrary, GetProcAddress APIs... but i couldn't understated what he doing with the pointers he get... he putting them somewhere in memory... and then what just call them?!? all the papers i found in the net explain the structure of the import table, but i didn't found a paper that explain how it is really work and get used... i hope you cold understand my Gibberish English... • Should I allow my clients to open tickets/access trac?

  I just installed trac for this project I'm working on, since it's turned out to be a bit bigger than I anticipated. I've added a bunch of tickets with my clients requests which come in the form of emails, phone calls, and meetings. I've also added some stuff I know needs to be done/fixed but they haven't specifically requested. Should I grant them access to trac so they can submit the tickets themselves so I don't have to keep translating (words into tickets) for them? They're very non-technical, so I'm not sure how well it would work; they might open tickets and not provide enough detail, or get confused by all the different fields. If your answer is "no", should I at least let them view the tickets, so they can see what I'm working on, what's been done, hasn't been done? So they can stop calling me to say "xxx doesn't work" when it's already a ticket? (Not that this would work, but I could at least respond "see ticket #42")
