• Netbeans Profile JUnit 4 problem

  I have a unit test that takes 200 sec to run. I am trying to use NetBeans profiler to speed it up. But the profiler doesn't run the unit test. It just creates an object of the test and exits. Doesn't run the actual test methods or @Before / @After methods. This is a maven project with surefire and junit 4. And partial output is below. • Referencing .NET Assembly in VB6 won't work

  I wrote a .net assembly using c# to perform functions that will be used by both managed and unmanaged code. I have a VB6 project that now needs to use the assembly via COM. I created my .net assembly, made sure that ComVisible is set to true and that it is registered for COM interop via project properties. public class MyClass [ComVisible(true)] public string GetResponse() { return "Testing Response" } } I build the assembly and copied the file into a folder. TestInterop.dll I then run a batch file to register the assembly tool to register the object for COM. cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ regasm "c:\Program Files\TestApp\TestInterop.dll" /tlb:TestInterop.tlb I open a new VB6 application and reference TestInterop.dll In VB6 I write the following code and it compiles. Dim obj as TestInterop.MyClass Set obj = new TestInterop.MyClass Dim strTest as string strTest = obj.GetRespose() When I run the program it errors on the obj.GetResponse() line. Run-time error' -2147024894 (80070002'): Automation error The system cannot find the file specified Also, the intellesense does not work on obj. I had to type the GetResponse method. Is this normal? Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong or what steps I missed. Thanks!

• C# serialPort speed

  Hi I am developing some monitoring tool for some kind of protocol based on serial communication. Serial BaudRate=187,5kb I use System.IO.Ports.SerialPort class. This protocol has 4 kinds of frames. They have 1Byte,3Bytes,6Bytes, 10-255Bytes. I can work with them but I receive them too late to respond. For the beginning I receive first packed after ex. 96ms (too late), and it contains about 1000B. This means 20-50 frames (too much, too late). Later its work more stable, 3-10Bytes but it is still too late because it contains 1-2 frames. Of Course 1 frame is OK, but 2 is too late. Can you point me how can I deal with it more reliable? I know it is possible. Revision1: I tried straight way: private void serialPort1_DataReceived(object sender, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e) { if (!serialPort1.IsOpen) return; this.BeginInvoke(new EventHandler(this.DataReceived)); } And Backgroud worker: And ... new Tread(Read) and... always the same. Too late, too slow. Do I have to go back to WinApi and import some kernel32.dll functions? Revision 2: this is the part of code use in the Treading way: int c = serialPort1.BytesToRead; byte[] b = new byte[c]; serialPort1.Read(b, 0, c); I guess it is some problem with stream use inside SerialPort class.   i have some element in my container and want to save all properties of this elements. i list this element by VisualTreeHelper and save its attributes in DB, question is that how to retrieve this properties and affect them? i think that The Silverlight have some statement that behave like Exec in Sql-Server. i save properties in one line that delimited by semicolon.(if you have any suggestion ,appreciate) Edit: suppose this scenario: End-User choose a tool from Mytoolbox(a container like Grid) ,a dialog shown its properties for creation and finally draw Grid . in resumption he/she choose one element(like Button) and drop it on one of the grid's cell. now i want to save workspace that he/she created! My RootLayout have one container control so any of element are child of this.HERETOFORE i want create one string that contain all general properties(not all of them) and save to DB, and when i load this control, i create an element by the type that i saved and affect it by the properties that i saved; with something like EXEC command. is this possible ? have you new approach for this scenario(Guide me with example please).

• OLAP Web Visualization and Reporting Recommendations

  I am preparing an offer for a customer. They proide weekly data to different organizations. There is huge amount data suits OLAP that needed to be visualized with charts and pivot tables on web and custom reports will be built by non-it persons (an easy gui). They will enter a date range, location which data columns to be included and generate report and optionally export the data to Excel. They currently prepare reports with MS Excel with Pivot Tables and but they need a better online tool now to show data to their customers. Tables are huge and need of drill-down functionality. My current knowledge Spring, Flex, MySql, Linux. I have some knowledge of PostgreSQL and MSSQL and Windows. What is the easiest way of doing this project. Do you think that SSRP (haven't tried yet) and ASP.NET better suits for this kind of job. Actually I prefer open source solutions. Flex have OLAP Data Grid control which do aggregation on client side. JasperServer seems promising but it seems I need enterprise version (multiple organizations and ad hoc queries). What about Modrian + Flex + PostgreSQL solution? Any previous experience will be appreciated. Yes I am confused with options.

My first try was this: ^(" "|\t)+"title"" "*=" "*"\"".+"\"," Which catches the first example, but not the other two. The other have multiple lines and that's the problem. I though about changing to something with \n somewhere to allow multiple lines, like this: ^(" "|\t)+"title"" "*=" "*"\""(.|\n)+"\"," But this doesn't help, instead, it catches everything. Than I though, "what I want is between double quotes, what if I catch everything until I find another " followed by ,? This way I could know if I was at the end of the title or not, no matter the number of lines, like this: ^(" "|\t)+"title"" "*=" "*"\""[^"\""]+"," But this has another problem... The example above doesn't have it, but the double quote symbol (") can be in between the title declaration. For instance: title = "aaaaaaa \"X bbbbbb", And yes, it will always be preceded by a backslash (\). Any suggestions to fix this regexp?

• What is private bytes, virtual bytes, working set?

  I am using perfmon windows utility to debug memory leak in a process. Perfmon explaination: Working Set- Working Set is the current size, in bytes, of the Working Set of this process. The Working Set is the set of memory pages touched recently by the threads in the process. If free memory in the computer is above a threshold, pages are left in the Working Set of a process even if they are not in use. When free memory falls below a threshold, pages are trimmed from Working Sets. If they are needed they will then be soft-faulted back into the Working Set before leaving main memory. Virtual Bytes- Virtual Bytes is the current size, in bytes, of the virtual address space the process is using. Use of virtual address space does not necessarily imply corresponding use of either disk or main memory pages. Virtual space is finite, and the process can limit its ability to load libraries. Private Bytes- Private Bytes is the current size, in bytes, of memory that this process has allocated that cannot be shared with other processes. Q1. Is it the private byte should I measure to be sure if the process is having any leak as it does not involve any shared libraries and any leak if happening will be coming from the process itself? Q2. What is the total memory consumed by the process? Is it the Virtual byte size? or Is it the sum of Virtual Bytes and Working Set Q3. Is there any relation between private bytes, working set and virtual bytes. Q4. Any tool which gives a better idea memory information?

I'm running Django 1.2 beta and trying out the new feature: message framework. http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/messages/ Everything seems to work, but when I try to output the messages, I get nothing. Seems that messages variable is empty. I double checked all the settings, they seem to be just like in the manual. • Tools for Maintaining Branches in SVN

  My team uses SVN for source control. Recently, I've been working on a branch with occasional merges from the trunk and it's been a fairly annoying experience (cf. Joel Spolsky's "Subversion Story #1"), so I've been looking alternative ways to manage branches and merging. Given that a centralized SVN repository is non-negotiable, what I'd like is a set of tools that satisfy the following conditions. Complete revision history should be stored in SVN for both trunk and branches. Merging in either direction (and potentially criss-crossing) should be relatively painless. Merging history should be stored in SVN to the greatest extent possible. I've looked at both git-svn and bzr-svn and neither seems to be up to the job—basically, given the revision history they can export from the SVN repository, they can't seem to do any better a job handling merges than SVN can. For example, after cloning the repository with git, the revision history for my branch shows the original branch off of trunk, but git doesn't "see" any of the interim SVN merges as "native" merges—the revision history is one long line. As a result, any attempts to merge from trunk in git yield just as many conflicts as an SVN merge would. (Besides, the git-svn documentation explicitly warns against using git to merge between branches.) Is there a way to adjust my workflow to make git satisfy the above requirements? Maybe I just need tips or tricks (or a separate merging tool?) to help SVN be better at merging into branches?

• conditionals for C++ using MSBuild/vsbuild?

  I have a C++ project in Visual Studio 2008 and I'd like to be able to compile several versions from the command line, defining conditional variables (aka #define). If it were just a single file to compile I'd use something like cl /D, but this is complex enough that I would like to be able to use VS's other features like the build order etc. I've seen a similar question asked in stackoverflow and the answer was to use /p:DefineConstants="var1;var2". This doesn't seem to work with C++ though. The other problem with that answer is that it replaces the conditional variables, instead of adding to them. The vcproj files for C++ look quite different. If msbuild (or vsbuild) had a way to change Configurations/Tool[name="VCCLCompilerTool"] we'd be golden. But I haven't found such an option. The vcproj files are under source control so I'd rather not have a script mess with them. I've considered doubling the number of configurations (one with the #define, one without). That'd be annoying, and I'm especially unhappy with having to modify these configurations in tandem every time I need to modify anything there. A previous similar question found no solution. I'm hoping that has changed since? How would you go about building those variants (with and without define) from the command line? Thanks!

• Can a call to WaitHandle.SignalAndWait be ignored for performance profiling purposes?

  I just downloaded the trial version of ANTS Performance Profiler from Red Gate and am investigating some of my team's code. Immediately I notice that there's a particular section of code that ANTS is reporting as eating up to 99% CPU time. I am completely unfamiliar with ANTS or performance profiling in general (that is, aside from self-profiling using what I'm sure are extremely crude and frowned-upon methods such as double timeToComplete = (endTime - startTime).TotalSeconds), so I'm still fiddling around with the application and figuring out how it's used. But I did call the developer responsible for the code in question and his immediate reaction was "Yeah, that doesn't surprise me that it says that; but that code calls SignalAndWait [which I could see for myself, thanks to ANTS], which doesn't use any CPU, it just sits there waiting for something to do." He advised me to simply ignore that code and look for anything ELSE I could find. My question: is it true that SignalAndWait requires NO CPU overhead (and if so, how is this possible?), and is it reasonable that a performance profiler would view it as taking up 99% CPU time? I find this particularly curious because, if it's at 99%, that would suggest that our application is often idle, wouldn't it? And yet its performance has become rather sluggish lately. Like I said, I really am just a beginner when it comes to this tool, and I don't know anything about the WaitHandle class. So ANY information to help me to understand what's going on here would be appreciated.

• StarTeam trunk.

  I have the unfortunate opportunity of source control via Borland's StarTeam. It unfortunately does very few things well, and one supreme weakness is its view management. I love SVN and come from an SVN mindset. Our issue is post production release we are spending countless hours merging changes into a "production support" environment. Please do not harass me this was not my doing, I inherited it and am trying to present a better way of managing the repository. It is not an option to switch to a different SCM tool. Current setup Product.1.0 (TRUNK, current production code, and at this level are pending bug fixes) Product.2.0(true trunk anything checked in gets tested, and then released next production cycle, a lot of changes occur in this view) My proposal is going to be to swap them, have all development be done on the trunk (Production), tag on releases, and as needed create child views to represent production support bug fixes. Production Production.2.0.SP.1 I can not find any documentation to support the above proposal so I am trying to get feedback on whether or not the change is a good idea and if there is anything you would recommend doing differently.

• Memory leak with NSData

  I'm having a leak with this code without being able to find where it's coming from. This function get called within an autorelease pool. I release the IplImage* image argument. When I run the ObjAlloc tool, it tells me that "NSData* data" is leaking. If I try to manually release the UIImage returned by this function, I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error, probably because this UIImage is autoreleased. I'm a bit confused, any hint would be appreciated. • Why is my code signing (MS authenticode) verification failing?

I followed the instructions (or so I thought) and the code signing claims to be done right, however when I try to verify the tool shows an error. I have no idea what it means and no idea how to fix this. Any comments would be appreciated. • Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcPermission.. help needed

  I'm getting the following error when trying to connect to a remote mysql server. Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I've installed the odbc 5.1 driver, and can connect to the database using the Data Sources (ODBC) tool in Control Panel. However when I try and run my C# scrip to connect, I get the above error. I've read its something to do with trust levels or something? I don't quite understand what people were talking about though. I went to C:... Framework/v2.0.50727/CONFIG and added to the medium and high trust.config files, but that didn't help.. Can someone help me out here please? • Webservices on iPhone - wsdl2objc - Sample Code?

  I have recently downloaded the most recent build of this awesome tool WSDL2OBJC from google code here: http://code.google.com/p/wsdl2objc/ After a bit of tweaking and downloading the latest version of the trunk from the svn repo I got a version that created the code for a WSDL I am using and compiles great and actually installs on my phone! However, I'm not doing anything with it yet, because I am not really sure how to. There is very little in the way of sample code on the site, and there is a sample file in the project if you download it, but again it is very complicated and there are no real bits of documentation. Has anyone managed to successfully use this stuff? It seems SOOO powerful and useful but from a look around the Internet, no one knows how to use it. We (all) would love someone who has figured it out to post a simple project or detailed walk-through of implementing this so we can put the code that lots of people have worked hard on to good use. If anyone has found a blog entry or has this information it would be great to see! I am totally stuck... with no errors. I would love to know how to use this now that it's all compiled successfully!

  I get org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /index.jsp(2,1) Unterminated <%@ page tag The page tags look like this: <%@ page import="java.util.*" %> <%@ page import="au.edu.uwa.peb.autoextractor.model.ScanResultItem"; %> This seems to indicate to me that a < does not have a corresponding tag ... is this so ... my IDE does not highlight any errors so how can I find this unterminated tag. Is there a JSP validation tool that I can use, perhaps online? • Is ASP.NET MVC destined to replace Webforms?

If not please close this. I know that no one framework or language is necessarily the only tool for every job. But, do you see MVC eclipsing webforms or webforms going lower on the priority list for Microsoft? They will have to keep webforms for a long time because so many have invested in it, but they don't have to keep adding new functionality for it. I don't know if this is a good example, but it reminds me of web parts. I never saw much improvement in it from Microsoft. It works and I thought it was great until I started to really try and get a lot out of it. Then from what I could see it just wasn't being pursued by Microsoft that much, though it stayed in Visual Studio. Maybe that's a bad example; just what I remembered. EDIT: Also, if anyone has any statements from Microsoft on this subject it is appreciated. No offense to anyone. I was only hoping for something official.

• Track "commands" send to WPF window by touchpad (Bamboo)

  Hi, I just bought a touchpad wich allows drawing and using multitouch. The api is not supported fully by windows 7, so I have to rely on the build in config dialog. The basic features are working, so if I draw something in my WPF tool, and use both fingers to do a right click, I can e.g. change the color. What I want to do now is assign other functions to special features in WPF. Does anybody know how to find out in what way the pad communicates with the app? It works e.g. in Firefox to scroll, like it should (shown on this photo). But I do not know how to hookup the scroll event, I tried a Scrollviewer (which ignores my scroll attempts) and I also hooked up an event with the keypressed, but it does not fire (I assume the pad does not "press a key" but somehow sends the "scroll" command direclty. How can I catch that command in WPF? Thanks a lot, Chris [EDIT] I got the scroll to work, but only up and down, not left and right. It was just a stupid "listbox in scrollviewer" mistake. But still not sure about commands like ZOOM in (which is working even in paint).. Which API contains such things? [EDIT2] Funny, the zoom works in Firefox, the horizontal scrolling does not. But, in paint, the horizontal scrolling works... • Extra fulltext ordering criteria beyond default relevance

  I'm implementing an ingredient text search, for adding ingredients to a recipe. I've currently got a full text index on the ingredient name, which is stored in a single text field, like so: "Sauce, tomato, lite, Heinz" I've found that because there are a lot of ingredients with very similar names in the database, simply sorting by relevance doesn't work that well a lot of the time. So, I've found myself sorting by a bunch of my own rules of thumb, which probably duplicates a lot of the full-text search algorithm which spits out a numerical relevance. For instance (abridged): ORDER BY [ingredient name is exactly search term], [ingredient name starts with search term], [ingredient name starts with any word from the search and contains all search terms in some order], [ingredient name contains all search terms in some order], ...and so on. Each of these is defined in the SELECT specification as an expression returning either 1 or 0, and so I order by those in sequential order. I would love to hear suggestions for: A better way to define complicated order-by criteria in one place, say perhaps in a view or stored procedure that you can pass just the search term to and get back a set of results without having to worry about how they're ordered? A better tool for this than MySQL's fulltext engine -- perhaps if I was using Sphinx or something [which I've heard of but not used before], would I find some sort of complicated config option designed to solve problems like this? Some google search terms which might turn up discussion on how to order text items within a specific domain like this? I haven't found much that's of use. Thanks for reading!

• HTTP requests and Apache modules: Creative attack vectors

  Slightly unorthodox question here: I'm currently trying to break an Apache with a handful of custom modules. What spawned the testing is that Apache internally forwards requests that it considers too large (e.g. 1 MB trash) to modules hooked in appropriately, forcing them to deal with the garbage data - and lack of handling in the custom modules caused Apache in its entirety to go up in flames. Ouch, ouch, ouch. That particular issue was fortunately fixed, but the question's arisen whether or not there may be other similar vulnerabilities. Right now I have a tool at my disposal that lets me send a raw HTTP request to the server (or rather, raw data through an established TCP connection that could be interpreted as an HTTP request if it followed the form of one, e.g. "GET ...") and I'm trying to come up with other ideas. (TCP-level attacks like Slowloris and Nkiller2 are not my focus at the moment.) Does anyone have a few nice ideas how to confuse the server and/or its modules to the point of self-immolation? Broken UTF-8? (Though I doubt Apache cares about encoding - I imagine it just juggles raw bytes.) Stuff that is only barely too long, followed by a 0-byte, followed by junk? et cetera I don't consider myself a very good tester (I'm doing this by necessity and lack of manpower; I unfortunately don't even have a more than basic grasp of Apache internals that would help me along), which is why I'm hoping for an insightful response or two or three. Maybe some of you have done some similar testing for your own projects? (If stackoverflow is not the right place for this question, I apologise. Not sure where else to put it.)

• SED - Regular Expression over multiple lines

  Hi there, I'm stuck with this for several hours now and cycled through a wealth of different tools to get the job done. Without success. It would be fantastic, if someone could help me out with this. Here is the problem: I have a very large CSV file (400mb+) that is not formatted correctly. Right now it looks something like this: Alan Smithee ist ein Anagramm von „The [...] „Alan Smythee“, und „Adam Smithee“." ,Alan Smithee Die Aussagenlogik ist der Bereich der Logik, der sich mit [...] ihrer Teilaussagen bestimmen. ,Aussagenlogik As you can probably see the words ",Alan Smithee" and ",Aussagenlogik" should actually be on the same line as the foregoing sentence. Then it would look something like this: Alan Smithee ist ein Anagramm von „The Smitheeeee [...] „Alan Smythee“, und „Adam Smithee“.,Alan Smithee Die Aussagenlogik ist der Bereich der Logik, der sich mit [...] ihrer Teilaussagen bestimmen.,Aussagenlogik Please note that the end of the sentence can contain quotes or not. In the end they should be replaced too. Here is what I came up with so far: sed -n '1h;1!H;${;g;s/\."?.*,//g;p;}' out.csv > out1.csv This should actually get the job done of matching the expression over multiple lines. Unfortunately it doesn't :) The expression is looking for the dot at the end of the sentence and the optional quotes plus a newline character that I'm trying to match with .*. Help much appreciated. And it doesn't really matter what tool gets the job done (awk, perl, sed, tr, etc.). Thanks, Chris

• Setting specified flags before serializing objects

  We have a schema that we serialize and deserialize into an object hierarchy. Some elements are optional in the schema. The xsd tool creates a cs file that inserts a property for each optional element. This property ends in "Specified", i.e. nameSpecified tells the serializer and deserializer to include the optional "name" element when processing. I'm trying to write a method that rips through the object hierarchy using reflection and if a property has a value and it has a "Specified" corresponding property, I want to set the Specified property to true. I've tried to do this using reflection, ie. foreach(PropertyInfo p in MyObject.GetType().GetNestedTypes().GetType().GetProperties() { if the field name ends in Specified check if there is a field with the same name without Specied. If there is, and that field name has a value, then set the field name that ends in Specified to true; } Its the middle bit that I'm having trouble with. I preferably don't want to rip through the hierarchy and create a list of properties ending in Specified and then rip through it again to see if the corresponding name without the ending "Specified" exists and then check if it has a value. And the rip through it again to update all the Specified fields to true. Seems a bit of a long way around :( Anyone have any bright ideas?

• Is it possible to handle User Defined Exception using JAX WS Dispatch API ?

  Hello, I'm performing dynamic webservices call using following code snippet: JAXBContext jc = getJAXBContext(requestClass, responseClass, jaxbContextExtraClasses); Dispatch<Object> dispatch = service.createDispatch(portQName, jc, Service.Mode.PAYLOAD); Object requestValue = getRequestValue(requestClass, pOrderedParameters); JAXBElement<?> request = new JAXBElement(new QName(serviceQNameStr, pOperationName), requestValue.getClass(), null, requestValue); Object tmpResponse = dispatch.invoke(request); Invocation works perfectly, except if I add a user defined exception on the service (a basic UserException extends java.lang.Exception). First I get: javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException: unexpected element (uri:"http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/", local:"Fault"). Expected elements are <{http://my.namespace/}myMethod,<{http://my.namespace/}myResponse Then I added the UserException_Exception JAX-WS generated type to my JAXB Context, and then get: Caused by: com.sun.xml.bind.v2.runtime.IllegalAnnotationsException: 1 counts of IllegalAnnotationExceptions java.lang.StackTraceElement does not have a no-arg default constructor. this problem is related to the following location: at java.lang.StackTraceElement at public java.lang.StackTraceElement[] java.lang.Throwable.getStackTrace() at java.lang.Throwable at java.lang.Exception Only solution available I found are: dispatch directly a Soap message and handle Soap fault directly (this is the way Jboss JAX-WS implementation performs a standard JAX-WS call using services interfaces). This is not an available solution for me, I want to use a high level implementation (the more I get close to Soap message the less dynamic my code can be) usage of JAXBRIContext.ANNOTATION_READER, which is implementation specific and not an available solution for me, in order to annotate annotates java.lang.Exception as @XmlTransient The service with a user defined exception performs well using the JAX-WS generated standard client stubs and using a tool such Soap UI. Problem occurs in deserialization of the message when I have no user defined exception artifact in the JAXB context, and during invocation when I add those non JAXB compatible artifacts in the JAXB context. I'm usign Jboss WS webservice stack within Jboss 4.2.3.GA Any elegant solution to this problem is welcomed !
