  You'd think this was easy - but I'm having the hardest time with it. Here's what I'm trying to identify: <span class="cw-value-one"></span> Here's what I'm using so far: $('span.cw-value-one').each(function(){ var textNode = $(this).text(); var type = typeof textNode; var len = textNode.length; if($(this).is(':empty')){ $(this).siblings('span.cw-value-two').css({"position": "relative", "left": "1em"}); } }); Ok, so textNode = "", type = string and len = 1 - none of which is helpful in identifying an empty text node, since a has a type of string and length of 1. The jQuery .is(':empty') is not working either. So whow do you identify an empty text node in JQuery or plain ol' Javascript?

• Lack of IsNumeric function in C#

  One thing that has bothered me about C# since its release was the lack of a generic IsNumeric function. I know it is difficult to generate a one-stop solution to detrmine if a value is numeric. I have used the following solution in the past, but it is not the best practice because I am generating an exception to determine if the value is IsNumeric: public bool IsNumeric(string input) { try { int.Parse(input); return true; } catch { return false; } } Is this still the best way to approach this problem or is there a more efficient way to determine if a value is numeric in C#?

• GIMP: Slightly wrong color when saving images

  When I create a new image, fill it with a single color, and save it as *.png or *.jpeg, it gets a slightly wrong color. When I save it as *.gif, the color is correct. Does this have something to do with a color profile? How can I turn it off? (Gimp 2.6.7 on Mac) BTW, when I use "Digital Color Meter" to check the color in the GIMP window, I also get a wrong value - but that value is again a little bit different.

• Modify Emdeded String in C# compiled exe

  I have an issue where I need to be able to have a compiled exe ( .net 3.5 c# ) that I will make copies of to distribute that will need to change a key for example before the exe is sent out. I cannot compile each time a new exe is needed. This is a thin client that will be used as part of a registration process. Is it possible to add a entry to a resource file with a blank value then when a request comes in have another application grab the blank default thin client, copy it, populate the blank value with the data needed. If yes how? If no do you have any ideas? I have been scratching my head for a few days now and the limitation as due to the boundaries I am required to work in. The other idea I has was to inject the value into a method, which I have no idea how I would even attempt that. Thanks.

• SqlParameter contructor compiler overload choice

  When creating a SqlParameter (.NET3.5) or OdbcParameter I often use the SqlParameter(string parameterName, Object value) constructor overload to set the value in one statement. When I tried passing a literal 0 as the value paramter I was initially caught by the C# compiler choosing the (string, OdbcType) overload instead of (string, Object). MSDN actually warns about this gotcha in the remarks section, but the explanation confuses me. Why does the C# compiler decide that a literal 0 parameter should be converted to OdbcType rather than Object? The warning also says to use Convert.ToInt32(0) to force the Object overload to be used. It confusingly says that this converts the 0 to an "Object type". But isn't 0 already an "Object type"? The Types of Literal Values section of this page seems to say literals are always typed and so inherit from System.Object. This behavior doesn't seem very intuitive given my current understanding? Is this something to do with Contra-variance or Co-variance maybe?

However I have a web page called JSON.aspx that contains a series of [WebMethods] - within these I cannot see the extension method - I must be missing something very obvious!

  I need to write a plugin for Dynamics CRM 4.0 that executes when a closed opportunity is reopened in order to change the salesstagecode. My questions are: When I register a new step to the plugin, what attribute(s) should I filter on? What property on the entity should I check the value of? and What should I look for the value of this entity to be so I can determine if the plugin execution should continue? I've typically written asynchronous workflows and my experience writing plugins is still developing, so I'd appreciate any help and clarification that can be offered. That is, I would like to have some function like .format above which takes a format string specifying properties on some object, and an instance with those properties, and formats the string accordingly. Is it possible to do accomplish this feat in Java?

  How should I store an Java Enum in JavaDB? Should I try to map the enums to SMALLINT and keep the values in source code only? The embedded database is only used by a single application. Or should I just store the values as DECIMAL? None of these solutions feels good/robust for me. Is there any better alternatives?   I need a hidden input to contain the value passed by the querystring via a JSP's URL. The URL looks like... http://nowhere.com/myapp/blah.jsp?key=12345 The JSP looks like... <html> <body> <input id="key" type="hidden" value="<%=request.getParameter('key')%>" /> </body> </html> This causes a 500 error... And this is where I'm stuck. I haven't yet found an workaround for this in MVVM adoptation for SL (PRISM is so complex for me yet). Different simple HelloWorldMVVM apps don't deal with at all. • Using JavaScript eval to parse JSON

  Question: I'm using eval to parse a JSON return value from one of my WebMethods. I prefer not to add jquery-json because the transfer volume is already quite large. So I parse the JSON return value with eval. Now rumors go that this is insecure. Why ? Nobody can modify the JSOn return value unless they hack my server, in which case I would have a much larger problem anyway. And if they do it locally, JavaScript only executes in their browser. So I fail to see where the problem is. I can distinguish between the different levels in 2 ways. The problem is that when including a type that extends from the required type for an element, the xsi:type is not included in the generated xml string. The operation should not change the color/alpha value of any pixel which don't match the color exactly. How do I do that? At first I thought I could use Colors-"Color to Alpha" but that don't work because it changes the color of all pixels(It adds an alpha value to all pixels). Using Gimp 2.6.11 on Linux

Value '123' is already present." I know I entered a duplicated value but the question is HOW can I determine which the columnName that cause the error and re-write the error message entirely in different language I want to get the columnName and the wrong value thanks in advance

• LINQ: How to Use RemoveAll without using For loop with Array

  I currently have a log object I'd like to remove objects from, based on a LINQ query. I would like to remove all records in the log if the sum of the versions within a program are greater than 60. Currently I'm pretty confident that this'll work, but it seems kludgy: for (int index = 0; index < 4; index++) { Log.RemoveAll(log => (log.Program[index].Version[0].Value + log.Program[index].Version[1].Value + log.Program[index].Version[2].Value ) > 60); } The Program is an array of 4 values and version has an array of 3 values. Is there a more simple way to do this RemoveAll in LINQ without using the for loop? Thanks for any help in advance!

  I'm trying to get latest inserted id from a table using this code: $id = $tbl->fetchAll (array('public=1'), 'id desc'); but it's always returning "1" any ideas? update: I've just discovered toArray();, which retrieves all the data from fetchAll. The problem is, I only need the ID. My current code looks like this: $rowsetArray = $id->toArray(); $rowCount = 1; foreach ($rowsetArray as $rowArray) { foreach ($rowArray as $column => $value) { if ($column="id") {$myid[$brr] = $value;} //echo"\n$myid[$brr]"; } ++$rowCount; ++$brr; } Obviously, I've got the if ($column="id") {$myid[$brr] = $value;} thing wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction? An aternative would be to filter ID's from fetchAll. Is that possible?

  I am using the ObservableSortedDictionary from Dr. WPF. The constructor looks like this: public ObservableSortedDictionary(IComparer<DictionaryEntry> comparer) I am really struggling to create an implementation that satisfies the constructor and works. My current code (that won't compile) is: public class TimeCreatedComparer<T> : IComparer<T> { public int Compare(T x, T y) { var myclass1 = (IMyClass)((DictionaryEntry)x).Value; var myclass2 = (IMyClass)((DictionaryEntry)y).Value; return myclass1.TimeCreated.CompareTo(myclass2.TimeCreated); } } It says I can't cast from T to DictionaryEntry. If I cast directly to IMyClass, it compiles, but I get a runtime error saying I can't cast from DictionaryEntry to IMyClass. At runtime, x and y are instances of DictionaryEntry, which each have the correct IMyClass as their Value.
