  • Unable to change the launcher icon size

    After upgrading to 11.10 I can't change the launcher icon size to smaller. I've tried to change it using ccsm, like described in How can I configure Unity, but the changes take no effects (restarted, tried sudo - still big icons). In the previous version of Ubuntu this solution worked. How can I change the icon size? (BTW, how can I know which Unity (2D vd 3D) I'm running and switch between?).   • How to find the window size in XNA

    I just wanted to know if there was a way to find out the size of the window in XNA. I don't want to set it to a specific size; I would like to know what dimensions it currently displays as automatically. Is there a way to find this information out? I realize I probably should have found this information out (or set it myself manually) before working on the game, but I'm a novice and am now hoping to work within the dimensions I have already become invested in.   • Increase the size of a memory mapped file

    I am maintaning a memory mapped file to store my tree like datastructure. When I'm updating the datastructure ,I got this problem. The file is limited on it's size and can't be too long or too small. I have a methods like void mapfile_insert_record(RECORD* /* record*/); void mapfile_modify_record(RECORD* /* record*/); Both operations could lead to exceed the space which is free on memory file. How do I overcome this? What strategy I should use. calculate whether it requires to exceed the file as a pre-condition on both methods. Dynamically exceed it , for a example manage a timer and constantly polling file for it's free avaliable size and then automatically extend it. Any ideas or patterns to overcome this problem?

  • Does data size in TCP/UDP make a difference on transmission time

    While discussing the development of a network component for our game engine, a member of our team suggested that transmitting either 500 bytes or 1k of data using UDP makes no difference from performance perspective of the system (the time it takes to transmit the data). He actually said that as long as you don't cross the MTU size, the size of the transmitted data doesn't really matter as it's all the same. Is that true for UDP? what about TCP? That sounds just plain wrong to me, but i am not a network expert. *I've been reading about other companies' game networking architectures, and it seems they're all trying to keep transmitted data to a minimum, making my colleague's claims seem even more unreasonable.

  • Increasing Ubuntu (12.04) partition size

    I'm running a dual boot Windows XP/Ubuntu system, and I'd like to increase the size of the Ubuntu partition at the expense of the Windows partition. I've already shrunk the Windows partition, creating a large unallocated space between the Windows and Ubuntu partitions (See linked GParted screenshot). http://s17.postimage.org/5ppnrrnot/GParted.png I'd like to move my Ubuntu partition to the start of the unallocated space, and then increase its size to encompass all of the unallocated space. Once I try and move it (Using the GParted live cd), it tells me to expect big GRUB issues since I'm moving my Ubuntu partition's start sector. What is it that I should expect, and how do I handle it?   • Environment font size is too small

    So I've chosen a font by System Settings - Application Appearance - Fonts And there I've adjusted all fonts to be of 14th size. And also checked "Use my KDE fonts..." in Gtk+ appearance. I've also did the same using kdesudo systemsettings But still some fonts are tiny! It's not the 14th size! Edit 2: I thought it might be one of Gnome font settings. So I've increased all fonts in gnome-tweak-tool sudo gnome-tweak-tool gconf-editor sudo gconf-editor No help! Edit: Ubuntu tweak also gives no help (note the tiny fonts!): Edit: It looks like the problem is with gtk3: when I compile emacs 24.0.92 with gtk3 - i get small menu fonts. When I do the same with a default gtk2 - everything is all right.

    There are some new size units with CSS 3, which allows you to resize elements relative to the viewport size. They are vw, vh, vmin (that’s vm in IE), and perhaps vmax. (Viewport width, height, smaller of the two, larger of the two.) 8vw is 8% of the viewport width – or 205 pixels on my 2560 screen. I created a tiny demo clock which sizes the elements so that it uses the whole screen. Clock – in Norwegian, but it’s the source that is interesting… Bug: Resize does not work. Tested for IE 9 & 10 and Chrome. Firefox and Safari: does not work.

    hi there, i'm trying to learn how to properly setup testing for an ASP.Net MVC. and from what i've been reading here and there thus far, the definition of legacy code kind of piques my interests, where it mentions that legacy codes are any codes without unit tests. so i did my project in a hurry not having the time to properly setup unit tests for the app and i'm still learning how to properly do TDD and unit testing at the same time. then i came upon selenium IDE/RC and was using it to test on the browser end. it was during that time too that i came upon the concept of integration testing, so from my understanding it seems that unit testing should be done to define the test and basic assumptions of each function, and if the function is dependent on something else, that something else needs to be mocked so that the tests is always singular and can be run fast. Questions: so am i right to say that the project should have started with unit test with proper mocks using something like rhino mocks. then anything else which requires 3rd party dll, database data access etc to be done via integration testing using selenium? because i have a function which calls a third party dll, i'm not sure whether to write a unit test in nunit to just instantiate the object and pass it some dummy data which breaks the mocking part to test it or just cover that part in my selenium integration testing when i submit my forms and call the dll. and for user acceptance tests, is it safe to say we can just use selenium again? Am i missing something or is there a better way/framework? i'm trying to put in more tests for regression testing, and to ensure that nothing breaks when we put in new features. i also like the idea of TDD because it helps to better define the function, sort of like a meta documentation. thanks!! hope this question isn't too subjective because i need it for my case.

  • How to change font size on display

    My laptop is Lenovo T400, whose screen size is 14.1 inches and default resolution is 1440 x 900. My main OS is Ubuntu 10.10. The default font size on the display is somehow small, which might contribute to the fatigue of my eyes. My previous laptop is Acer 5000, whose screen size is 15.4 inches and the default resolution is 1024 x 768. I like reading on my old laptop better than on my new one. Is it possible to change the setting of my new one to look like reading my old one? What are the parameters that control the font size? Are screen size, resolution part of them? In Windows, there are choices for font size, while in Ubuntu I haven't find out where I can change the setting and would like know if someone here knows about it. I also wonder if I can use a separate bigger display (perhaps just like a desktop display) as the display of my laptop, in case I don't want to enlarge font size at the cost of sacrificing the amount of the content to display, and how I shall do it?   • Kubuntu 12.04 - Touchpad and keyboard stopped working at random

At first I've thought that the whole system was hung, but it happened again 5 minutes ago and, while the keyboard and the touchpad stopped working, the music was still playing, so I guess that's just an "input" problem, because the system was still working!     Hello, I am looking for a configurable / tunable on Solaris 9 through which I can change the default thread stack size without recompiling the code to use "pthread_attr_setstacksize" For example on HPUX 11.11 / 11.23 the environment variable "PTHREAD_DEFAULT_STACK_SIZE" can be exported (available via HPUX patches PHCO_38307 / PHCO_38955 ) - Is there a equivalent Solaris 9 way to achieve the same ? I use the full width (1000px) of a div as a limiter, and a script that automatically sets the font of the h1-element so that it fits the width of the div without line break.     I want to be able to track the amount of data that is being transfered from my web site to each user that accesses the site. I can do this for file downloads and such but what about the pure html content itself. How can I track the output size of a page (or the data that's trasnfered via an AJAX call) to the client and log it against a particular users session? Also how would this differ when GZip is used in IIS 6.0?

    Hi, I'm developing a operating system and I need a test program (function of any kind) to test certain internal features. I cannot find any appropriate program to do this job. Probably one of you knows one. The program should be open source, written in C with very little user library usage (only file IO, pthreads, stdio, stdlib preferred) and must have a binary size of at least 2MB.   • Detect block size for quota in Linux

    The limit placed on disk quota in Linux is counted in blocks. However, I found no reliable way to determine the block size. Tutorials I found refer to block size as 512 bytes, and sometimes as 1024 bytes. I got confused reading a post on LinuxForum.org for what a block size really means. So I tried to find that meaning in the context of quota. I found a "Determine the block size on hard disk filesystem for disk quota" tip on NixCraft, that suggested the command: dumpe2fs /dev/sdXN | grep -i 'Block size' or blockdev --getbsz /dev/sdXN But on my system those commands returned 4096, and when I checked the real quota block size on the same system, I got a block size of 1024 bytes. Is there a scriptable way to determine the quota block size on a device, short of creating a known sized file, and checking it's quota usage?
