• How do I remove the unity 2D option in lightdm (login sceen) in ubuntu 12.04?

  Because I wish to view my full username at login, I want to remove the "Unity 2D" option at the login screen. Currently the last part of the username (after the 20th digit) is hidden behind the Ubuntu-icon which enables switching to Unity 2D. Another option would be to decrease the font-size of the username, is any of this possible? Btw this is not an issue in Ubuntu 12.10, where the username font-size is smaller, and Unity 2D unsupported!

• Awesome WordPress modular theme builder?

  I came across a really neat modular theme for WordPress a while ago, but I can't remember the name so I'm wondering if somebody can help out. It was a paid theme with a dedicated company behind it if I'm not mistaken. The theme allowed you to change the colors of all the content areas, define widgets, and resize content areas. I'm really interested in being able to resize columns and such at the touch of a button, getting too old for the usual CSS micromanagement that goes on with brittle themes.

• Any reason not to buy SSL certificates from a reseller?

  Is there any reason to buy an SSL certificate directly from the host (for $49, for example), instead of through a well-known reseller, for only $10.95? Specifically in my case, I just need to encrypt user data as they fill out forms. Nothing too critical, only usernames and passwords. I don't think my users actually care about the brand name or "trust" level behind the certificate, I'm just looking out for them.

• Why can't `main` return a double or String rather than int or void?

  In many languages such as C, C++, and Java, the main method/function has a return type of void or int, but not double or String. What might be the reasons behind that? I know a little bit that we can't do that because main is called by runtime library and it expects some syntax like int main() or int main(int,char**) so we have to stick to that. So my question is: why does main have the type signature that it has, and not a different one?

Until now I've been basing my configuration off the stock Maverick kernel and accepting the make oldconfig defaults. I've been doing this for 3 major releases now so I figure I'm starting to slip behind the current "standard". I would like to re-base my kernels off the new Natty .config file. Is this available somewhere online or do I have to download the whole kernel package and extract it?

• Making headers readable on a multi colored background

  So the client wants a multi-colored background (think 4 colors of paint splats randomly all over the page. Because of this the headers are a bit hard to read. I've currently got them set up as black text with some white drop shadow, but it's still pretty hard to read in IE. How can I make the headers legible regardless of what is behind them (it's a CMS so position on the page is liable to change regularly)?

  At http://www.shieldscompany.com, the main (blue) product menu uses a sprite and has sub-menus. Our programmer set it up so that the sub-menus are relative to the top of the browser, rather than under the sprite. On the site's sub-pages, the sub-menus appear correctly, but on the home page they appear behind a large rotating graphic.   I've read in multiple places that Google's sitemap limits sits at 50,000 URLs per sitemap - though it's my understanding that you can submit multiple sitemaps to overcome this problem. I've also found that Google follow the sitemap protocol found here. My question is - is there anywhere where Google directly comment on the specifications and limits of sitemaps they accept? All the information I've found isn't behind any Google domain.
