  My question concerns markup that surrounds some of the default phone number labels in the Person entries of the Contact list on the iPhone. I have created an iPhone contact list address book entry for a person, "John Smith" with the following phone number entries: Mobile (604) 123-4567 iPhone (778) 123-4567 Home (604) 789-4561 Work (604) 456-7891 Main (604) 789-1234 megaphone (234) 567-8990 Note that the first five labels are default labels provided by the Contacts application and the last label, "megaphone", is a custom label. • Ruby on Rails tutorial problem

  Quick question which I hope is easily answered.. I am following this tutorial: http://oreilly.com/pub/a/ruby/archive/rails.html?page=2 and all is going well until I try create a controller and view it in my browser. The server is running and it shows the default page okay (http://127.0.0.1:3000). I ran ruby script\generate controller MyTest in my command line and it generated the correct folders and files. The problem is, when I go to http://127.0.0.1:3000/My%5FTest/ it says: We're sorry, but something went wrong. We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly. This must be something I have overlooked somewhere. Any help is appreciated! ruby 1.8.6 rails 2.3.4 Just checked my development logs. • (Mac Intel) HP PS driver prints in B&W from Adobe Reader after installing Cannon PS driver

  I have a unique problem that leaves me at a loss as to where to start troubleshooting. We have three Macs we use for graphics, two of which are PowerPC and one which is Intel. They are set up to print to an HP 5500dn, but occasionally this printer gets tied up with a massive print job, so I installed the PS driver (iR-PSv1.81MacOSX) for the Cannon C3200 Printer/copier on each of the machines. Both of the PowerPC Macs installed without issue, but the Intel Mac exhibits strange behavior: I've confirmed that while the Cannon driver is installed (whether or not the Cannon is set up for printing in print settings), the HP 5500dn will print in color from Safari, but only prints in black and white from Adobe Reader. The Cannon printer itself has not exhibited any strange behavior As soon as the Cannon driver is uninstalled, the HP 5500dn prints in color from Adobe Reader again. We run a network of Windows PCs, and the 'Mac room' mostly takes care of itself, so we don't have any experienced Mac administrators onsite. The Cannon is capable of Appletalk, but the PS driver seemed easier to work with (and Appletalk is currently disable on the Cannon. I'm not against using the Appletalk compatible drivers, but I would rather use the PS driver if at all possible - I don't want to open up the proverbial can of worms. If someone has any clues or suggestions that would help troubleshoot this problem, I would be grateful. I've already done some googling, but due to the obscure nature of this problem, I haven't been very successful. I don't like to create multiple threads on multiple sites, but I'm posting here due to Chopper3's suggestion on my post on ServerFault (http://serverfault.com/questions/135349/mac-intel-hp-ps-driver-prints-in-bw-from-adobe-reader-after-installing-cannon)

  A couple years ago I found a great site called something like 'programming-books.com' (but not exactly that). It let users submit links to their favorite books for various programming languages, and write a short blurb about why they're so good. You could include their Amazon page and the website would grab a cover picture. I've since lost that bookmark and am trying to find it again, anyone know what site I'm talking about? Here is what is currently on my list: Java Concurrency in Practice by Brian Goetz sed & awk by Dougherty & Robbins (O'Reilly) The Pragmatic Programmer by Andrew Hunt and David Thomas Head First Design Patterns Can anyone suggest anything else? Would especially like something similar to Joel. Something that is a bit edgy but informative. Pragmatic programmer has some key concepts but is a bit dry.

• How do I get Graphics drivers / bluetooth / card reader working on an Acer Aspire V3-571G?

  A couple of days ago I bought an Acer Aspire V3-571G laptop without a system installed on it. The only thing that was there was Linux Linpus. I created a bootable CD with Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit - I read that my processor was 64 bit and that it might be a good configuration for my gear (I'm not especially fluent with all the computer stuff, still trying to learn) and replaced Linpus with Ubuntu. Everything seemed to work fine, but there're few exceptions to that which came pass my way. My bluetooth doesn't work. It seems to be switched on, but when I check my system settings the button is actually off, and I can't drag it 'perminently' to the 'on' position. Tried a couple of commands I found on the net, none of them helped and there was no word whatsoever in my BIOS settings about enabling bluetooth. My card reader has some serious problems with copying more than one file at a time. I tried to put some music on my phone through a MicroSD card adapter (because my bluetooth doesn't work) and it got stuck every single time I copied an album on it. • Generate texture for a heightmap

  I've recently been trying to blend multiple textures based on the height at different points in a heightmap. However i've been getting poor results. I decided to backtrack and just attempt to recreate one single texture from an SDL_Surface (i'm using SDL) and just send that into opengl. I'll put my code for creating the texture and reading the colour values. • What is a good Foxit reader equivalent (or other PDF editor)?

  On Windows, I have found Foxit Reader to be quite handy when I need to highlight texts in PDF document, make annotations, etc. etc. Unfortunately, I have not yet found product as user friendly (which also does not corrupt PDF files...) and full-featured as Foxit software... Any recommendations? ** UPDATE ** I just tried the Open Office PDF import extension. It seems to work ok... If anyone used it for a while, I'd appreciate your feedback on that one. Thanks! ** UPDATE ** You can't highlight text with OpenOffice's PDF extension. Doesn't matter, I was reading this thread and found out about Xournal . As it turns out, it's in the repository. It does not natively save in PDF, but once all edits are done, the document can be exported to PDF (and overwrite the old one, just like Gimp with the native .XCE format and original PNG file, for example) I realize that this question is no longer a question in itself, but could be migrated to community wiki. However, feedbacks are still welcome! ** EDIT ** So... to close up this question, I have to say that I adopted Xournal . It is light and works pretty well, even on multi-page PDF documents. • Why is my class worse than the hierarchy of classes in the book (beginner OOP)?

  I am reading this book. The author is trying to model a lesson in a college. The goal is to output the Lesson Type (Lecture or Seminar), and the Charges for the lesson depending on whether it is a hourly or fixed price lesson. So the output should be: lesson charge 20. Charge type: hourly rate. lesson type seminar. lesson charge 30. Charge type: fixed rate. lesson type lecture. In a previous chapter, the author stated the following 'four signposts' as the time when I should consider changing my class structure: Code Duplication The Class Who Knew Too Much About His Context The Jack of All Trades - Classes that try to do many things Conditional Statements The only problem I can see is Conditional Statements, and that too in a vague manner - so why refactor this? What problems do you think might arise in the future that I have not foreseen?

  Apress Books Introducing Visual C# 2010 - ISBN 978-1-4302-3171-4 Having read through parts 1 and 2 of this 4 -part book, I am very impressed by its practical approach to C#. I cannot improve on the by-line "Get started on your C# journey with an expert by your side leading by example" Adam Freeman teaches C# by precept and example. I suspect he drives a Volvo C30 as it comes up in many of the code examples!  Throughout the book there are numerous links back and forth so as to avoid overcomplicating the current topic. I have have no hesitation in recommending this book both to programmers starting out with C# and to the seasoned professional. It is a book that should be on every C# development team's book shelf. There are a few typographical errors in the book, one of which has already made it to the errata, however these are very minor and do not detract from the usefulness of this book.
