  • CSS submenus for a horizontal menu

    - by kalaivani
    This is the CSS I'm currently using to produce a horizontal menu. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about extending it to allow for submenus? /* CSS Document */ .rhm1{ width:780px; height:64px; margin:0 auto; background:url(images/rhm1_bg.gif) repeat-x; } .rhm1-left{ background:url(images/rhm1_l.gif) no-repeat; width:15px; height:64px; float:left; } .rhm1-right{ background:url(images/rhm1_r.gif) no-repeat; width:15px; height:64px; float:right; } .rhm1-bg{ background:url(images/rhm1_bg.gif) repeat-x; height:64px; } .rhm1-bg ul{ list-style:none; margin:0 auto; } .rhm1-bg li{ float:left; list-style:none; } .rhm1-bg li a{ float:left; display:block; color:#ffe8cc; text-decoration:none; font:12px 'Lucida Sans', sans-serif; font-weight:bold; padding:0 0 0 18px; height:64px; line-height:40px; text-align:center; cursor:pointer; } .rhm1-bg li a span{ float:left; display:block; padding:0 32px 0 18px; } .rhm1-bg li.current a{ color:#fff; background:url(images/rhm1_hover_l.gif) no-repeat left 5px; } .rhm1-bg li.current a span{ color:#fff; background:url(images/rhm1_hover_r.gif) no-repeat right 5px; } .rhm1-bg li a:hover{ color:#fff; background:url(images/rhm1_hover_l.gif) no-repeat left 5px; } .rhm1-bg li a:hover span{ color:#fff; background:url(images/rhm1_hover_r.gif) no-repeat right 5px; }

  • Background position image overlay (Works in IE, not in Mozilla/Chrome/Safari)

    - by amm229
    Hi all, I am having an issue positioning a background image using the following jquery background position command in Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. The code works correctly in IE 8. $('#element).css({ backgroundPosition: 'xpx ypx' }); The x position of the image is calculated dynamically based on window size and the y position is static. The css appears to be modified correctly, however, the background image I am attempting to overlay is absent. See jscript code below: $(window).resize(function () { // image positioning variables var windowwidth = $(window).width(); var imgwidth = $('#imgFluid').width(); var offset = $('#divFluidBlur').offset(); // calculate and implement position blurPositionLeft = (windowwidth - imgwidth) - offset.left; $('#divFluidBlur').css({ backgroundPosition: blurPositionLeft + 'px' + ' 30px' }); // debug: display actual css Background Position of element to text box $("#txtActualBackgroundpos").val(document.getElementById ("divFluidBlur").style.backgroundPosition); Thanks in advance for your help, Andrew

  • Background image JFrame with content

    - by Petr Safar
    I have a JFrame with BorderLayout, there are panels on all sides (North, East ,...). In the panels there are labels and buttons mostly. Now I want the frame to have a background image, some research told me that i had to change the content pane of my frame. When I try this however, the content gets put in the background and isn't visible. Also, I don't know how to resize the image if the frame is resized. Is there an easy fix for this or will I have to rework most of my code?

  • Drop down menu going under #main div background in IE 7/8/9

    - by Adrift
    Here is the link to the domain http://linenwoods.com I am working on. I am going to fit the navigation list items on the header, but when the drop down menu is implemented I'm pretty sure it'll go under the #main div like you see currently. Is there any easy way fix to this? I couldn't find anything related to this from a google search .. was hoping someone could help me out. Below is the relevant CSS .. I tried playing around with z-index with no luck as I was told IE8 renders it strangely. If you have the time please follow the link with IE and leave a response .. I am trying to be as cross-browser compatible as possible and already am at a pretty pathetic start. Any help would be appreciated :) body { background-image:url('Background1.jpg'); background-position: center; height: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; opacity: 0.8; filter: alpha(opacity=80); } #main { width : 1010px; height: 1315px; background-color: white; margin-top: 15px; filter: alpha(opacity=80); } header { width: 1010px; height: 230px; background-color: white; margin: 0 auto; margin-top: 15px; filter: alpha(opacity=80); } footer { width: 1010px; height: 230px; background-color: white; margin: 15px 0 15px 0; filter: alpha(opacity=80); }

  • How to convert or burn a .DMG image file on Windows?

    - by Nick Josevski
    Does anyone have software they use frequently and can recommend to burn a mac created .DMG file on a windows operating system? Ideally free, or at least reasonably priced. Or an alternative application convert it to .ISO or something equivalent. I'm looking for reassurance I won't be wasting several (more expensive than normal DVDs) dual layer DVDs to get this done right. As the .DMG file is 7gig.

    - by chmurli
    Firefox 3.5 doesn't load the CSS from only 1 site (www.makeuseof.com). Everything else works OK (graphics, etc.). I tried safemode but no luck. In other browsers same site works properly. What did I do wrong? Edit (2009 Aug. 19): problem solved but I don't know how. Today I just discovered that site loads CSS and it works. I didn't make any changes (think so). Love Firefox :).

  • Applying flattened css to xhtml

    - by rahul
    Hi, I try to apply flattened css to xhtml (which get from websites). I am using css4j-0.12.1.jar (from http://www.informatica.info/projects/css/) to process the url html content. For a few urls the code seems to be hang. Even no exception is thrown. For a particular stylableelement or style code doesnot return any value and hangs. For a few websites code hang in, CSSStyleDeclaration.getPropertyValue(style); and for a few websites code hang in, CSSStylableElement.getComputedStyle(); I am using the latest jar. Could you please update me, is there any known issue or fix for this. I am not sure where to post this issue. If anyone knows please update me. Thanks in Advance.

  • Setting background-image with javascript

    - by Mattoe3k
    In chrome, safari, and opera setting the background image to an absolute reference such as: "/images/image.png" changes it to "http://sitepath/images/image.png". It does not do this in firefox. Is there any way to avoid this behavior, or is it written into the browser's javascript engine? Using jquery to set the background-image also does this problem. The problem is that I am posting the HTML to a php script that needs the urls in this specific format. I know that setting the image path relative fixes this, but I can't do that. The only other alternative would be to use a regexp. to convert the urls. Thanks. Test this in firefox, and chrome / webkit browser: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <div style="height:400px;width:400px;background-image:url(/images/images/logo.gif);"> </div> <br /> <br /> <div id="test" style="height:400px;width:400px;"> </div> <script type="text/javascript" src="/javascripts/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#test").css('background-image',"url(/images/images/logo.gif)"); alert(document.getElementById('test').style.backgroundImage); }); </script> </body> </html>

  • Make a Drive Image Using an Ubuntu Live CD

    - by Trevor Bekolay
    Cloning a hard drive is useful, but what if you have to make several copies, or you just want to make a complete backup of a hard drive? Drive images let you put everything, and we mean everything, from your hard drive in one big file. With an Ubuntu Live CD, this is a simple process – the versatile tool dd can do this for us right out of the box. We’ve used dd to clone a hard drive before. Making a drive image is very similar, except instead of copying data from one hard drive to another, we copy from a hard drive to a file. Drive images are more flexible, as you can do what you please with the data once you’ve pulled it off the source drive. Your drive image is going to be a big file, depending on the size of your source drive – dd will copy every bit of it, even if there’s only one tiny file stored on the whole hard drive. So, to start, make sure you have a device connected to your computer that will be large enough to hold the drive image. Some ideas for places to store the drive image, and how to connect to them in an Ubuntu Live CD, can be found at this previous Live CD article. In this article, we’re going to make an image of a 1GB drive, and store it on another hard drive in the same PC. Note: always be cautious when using dd, as it’s very easy to completely wipe out a drive, as we will show later in this article. Creating a Drive Image Boot up into the Ubuntu Live CD environment. Since we’re going to store the drive image on a local hard drive, we first have to mount it. Click on Places and then the location that you want to store the image on – in our case, a 136GB internal drive. Open a terminal window (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and navigate to the newly mounted drive. All mounted drives should be in /media, so we’ll use the command cd /media and then type the first few letters of our difficult-to-type drive, press tab to auto-complete the name, and switch to that directory. If you wish to place the drive image in a specific folder, then navigate to it now. We’ll just place our drive image in the root of our mounted drive. The next step is to determine the identifier for the drive you want to make an image of. In the terminal window, type in the command sudo fdisk -l Our 1GB drive is /dev/sda, so we make a note of that. Now we’ll use dd to make the image. The invocation is sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=./OldHD.img This means that we want to copy from the input file (“if”) /dev/sda (our source drive) to the output file (“of”) OldHD.img, which is located in the current working directory (that’s the “.” portion of the “of” string). It takes some time, but our image has been created…Let’s test to make sure it works. Drive Image Testing: Wiping the Drive Another interesting thing that dd can do is totally wipe out the data on a drive (a process we’ve covered before). The command for that is sudo dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda This takes some random data as input, and outputs it to our drive, /dev/sda. If we examine the drive now using sudo fdisk –l, we can see that the drive is, indeed, wiped. Drive Image Testing: Restoring the Drive Image We can restore our drive image with a call to dd that’s very similar to how we created the image. The only difference is that the image is going to be out input file, and the drive now our output file. The exact invocation is sudo dd if=./OldHD.img of=/dev/sda It takes a while, but when it’s finished, we can confirm with sudo fdisk –l that our drive is back to the way it used to be! Conclusion There are a lots of reasons to create a drive image, with backup being the most obvious. Fortunately, with dd creating a drive image only takes one line in a terminal window – if you’ve got an Ubuntu Live CD handy! • CSS selector driving me nuts!!!

    - by YsoL8
    Apoologies in advance for the slightly long winded code in this question @charset "UTF-8"; /* CSS Document */ * { margin:0; padding:0; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #wrapper { width:900px; margin:0 auto 0 auto; } #header { background-color:#800080; width:894px; min-height:60px; padding-top:6px; padding-left:6px; } #header img { margin-left:200px; margin-top:10px; } #headerleft { float:left; } #header h2 { font-family:Arial Black, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#ffff00; font-size:36px; /*float:left;*/ } #header h3 { font-family:Arial Black, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#ffff00; font-size:14px; } #nav { background-color:#800080; width:100%; min-height:30px; } #nav ul { padding-left:7px; padding-right:7px; } #nav li { list-style:none; display:inline; padding:5px 44px 5px 44px; } #nav li a { color:#FFF; text-decoration:none; } #nav li a:hover { color:#ffff00; } #leftcol { background-color:#800080; width:125px; min-height:30px; float:left; } #leftcol img { margin-left:20px; margin-bottom:20px; } .content { padding:20px 10px 10px 20px; float:left; } <!-- admin classes --> .pageselect p { color:#C90; } #rightcol { /*background-color:#800080;*/ width:160px; min-height:330px; float:right; } .righthead { margin-top:7px; background-image:url(../images/rightcol-head.png); color:#FFF; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; font-size:14px; } .rightmid { background-image:url(../images/right-mid.jpg); padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; font-size:14px; } .rightfoot { background-image:url(../images/right-foot.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; } .clear { clear:both; } #footer { background-color:#800080; width:880px; min-height:30px; margin-top:-20px; padding-top:30px; padding-left:20px; padding-bottom:10px; } #footer p { color:#ffff00; } #footer p a { color:#ffff00; text-decoration:none; } #footer p a:hover { font-weight:bold; } .error { color:#C30; } I have the above stylesheet. I am attempting to style the following element (taken from firefox web developer tools): html > body > div#wrapper > div#leftright > div.content > div.pageselect To my mind .pageselect should be the selector to do that, but I seem to be powerless to influence the style, and its just about sending me wacko! Why won't this work?

  • Add Background Images and Themes to Windows 7 Media Center

    - by DigitalGeekery
    Are you tired of the same Windows Media Center look and feel? Today we’ll show you how change the background and apply themes to WMC. Changing the Basic Color Scheme in WMC There are a couple of very basic color scheme options built in to Windows 7 Media Center. From the WMC Start Menu, select Settings on the Tasks strip and then select General. On the General settings screen select Visual and Sound Effects.   Under Color scheme you’ll find options for Windows Media Center standard, High contrast white, and High contrast black. Simply select a color scheme and click Save before exiting.   If you have used Media Center before you are familiar with the standard blue default theme. There is also the high contrast white. And, the high contrast black. Changing the Background Image with Media Center Studio Themes and custom backgrounds need to be added with the third-party software, Media Center Studio. You can find the download link at the end of this article. You can use your own high resolution photo, or download one from the Internet. For best results, you’ll want to find an image that meets or exceeds the resolution of your monitor. Also, using a darker colored background image is ideal as it should contrast better with the lighter colored text of the start menu. Once you’ve downloaded and installed Media Center Studio (link below), open the application select the Home tab on the ribbon and make sure you are on the Themes tab below. Click New. Select Biography from the left pane and type in a name for your new theme.   Next, click on the triangle next to Images to expand the list below. You’ll want to browse to Images > Common > Background. You should see a list of PNG image files located below Background. We will want to swap out the COMMON.ANIMATED.BACKGROUND.PNG and the COMMON.BACKGROUND.PNG images. Select COMMON.ANIMATED.BACKGROUND.PNG and click on the Browse button on the right.   Browse for your photo and click Open. Your selected image will appear on the left pane. Now, do the same for the COMMON.BACKGROUND.PNG. When finished, select the Home tab on the ribbon at the top and click Save.   Now switch to the Themes tab on the ribbon and the Themes tab below. (There are two Themes tabs which can be a bit confusing). Select your theme on the right pane and click Apply. Note: You won’t see the image backgrounds displayed. Your theme will be applied to Media Center. Close out of Media Center Studio and open Windows Media Center to check out your new background.   You can load multiple backgrounds images and switch them periodically as your mood changes. You might like to find a nice background featuring your favorite movie or TV show.   Perhaps you can even find a background of your favorite sports team.   Installing Themes with Media Center Studio Theme7MC has made available a small group of Media Center Studio Theme packs that are simple to download and install. You can find the download link below. Note: Before installing a theme, turn off any extenders and close Windows Media Center. Download any (or all) of the Theme7MC theme packages to your Media Center PC. Open Media Center Studio, select the Themes tab (the one at the top) and click Import Theme.   Browse for the theme you wish to import and click Open. Select your theme from the themes pane and click Apply. Media Center Studio will proceed to apply your theme. You should then see your new theme appear under Current theme on the left theme pane. Close out of Media Center Studio. Open Media Center and enjoy your new theme. Conclusion Media Center Studio runs on Windows 7 or Vista and gives users a solution for personalizing their Media Center backgrounds. It is a Beta application, however, so it still has a few bugs. Currently, there are only a handful of themes available at Themes7MC, but what they have is pretty slick. If you’d like to further customize the look of Media Center, check out our previous article on how to customize the Media Center start menu with Media Center Studio. • Powerpoint template image placeholders can't send to back

    - by Marcus
    We want to be able to set up a PowerPoint 2007 template with a picture frame image. We then want to insert an image in normal view which would appear behind the picture frame image that was put in the template (so it looks logically like a picture in a picture frame). Problem is, when we insert the image in normal view it always appears on top of the picture frame image. It appears that you can't send to back when the other elements are included in a template. Any ideas?

  • XNA - Moving Background Calculations

    - by Jesse Emond
    Hi, My question is relatively hard to explain(for me, at least), so I'll go one step at a time and just tell me in the comments if it's not clear enough. So I'm making a "Defend Your Castle" type 2D game, where two players own a castle and create units that will move horizontally to try to destroy the opponent's base. Here's a screenshot of the game: The distance between both castles is much bigger in a real game though, bigger than the screen's width actually. Because the distance is bigger than the screen's width, I had to implement a simple 2D camera: Camera2D, which only holds a Location Vector2 (and I always make sure this camera is within the field area). Then, I just move all the game elements(castles, units, health bars) by that location, so that if a unit is at (5, 0), and the camera's location is (5, 0), then the unit's position will be moved by 5 units to the left, making it (0, 0) on the screen. At first, I simply used a static background with mountains and clouds(yeah, those are supposed to be mountains and clouds). Obviously, this looked awful: when you moved the camera, the background would stay immobile. Instead, I'd like to make a moving background, kind of a "scrolling" one. But rather than making a background with the same width as the distance between the castles, I'd like to make one that is a little bit smaller(but still bigger than the screen's width). I thought this would create an effect of "distance" with the background(but it might just look awful, too). Here's the background I'm testing with: I tried different ways, but none of them seems to work. I tried this: float backgroundFieldRatio = BackgroundTexture.Width / fieldWidth;//find the ratio between the background and the field. float backgroundPositionX = -cam.Location.X * backgroundFieldRatio;//move the background to the left When I run this with fieldWith = 1600, BackgroundTexture.Width = 1500 and while looking at the rightmost area, the background is offset to the left by a too big amount, and we can see the black clear color in the back, as you can see here: I hope I explained properly what I'm trying to achieve. Thank you for your time. Note: I didn't know what to look for on Google, so I thought I'd ask here.

  • What is the most performant CSS property for transitioning an element?

    - by Ian Kuca
    I'm wondering whether there is a performance difference between using different CSS properties to translate an element. Some properties fit different situations differently. You can translate an element with following properties: transform, top/left/right/bottom and margin-top/left/right/bottom In the case where you do not utilize the transition CSS property for the translation but use some form of a timer (setTimeout, requestAnimationFrame or setImmediate) or raw events, which is the most performant–which is going to make for higher FPS rates?

  • How to display consistent background image

    - by Tofu_Craving_Redish_BlueDragon
    Drawing a large background is relatively slow in PyGame. In order to avoid drawing BG every frame, you could draw it once, then do nothing. However, if something is overdrawn onto the surface and keeps moving, you will need to redraw the background in order to "erase" the color pixels left by moving object; otherwise, you will have "traces" of the moving object. I have a moving object in my PyGame. However, I do not want to "clear the color buffer" by redrawing the background image. Redrawing the background image every frame is slow. My solution : I will "clear" only required portions (where the "traces" of moving object are left) of the "buffer" by redrawing portions of background. Is there any other better way to have a consistent background?

A code snippet for my custom Button.xaml is (its namespace is MyWPFApp.Themes): <ResourceDictionary ...> ... <LinearGradientBrush x:Key="NormalBackground" EndPoint="0,1" StartPoint="0,0"> <GradientStop Color="sc#1.000000, 0.250141, 0.333404, 0.884413" Offset="0"/> <GradientStop Color="#ccffffff" Offset="1"/> </LinearGradientBrush> <LinearGradientBrush x:Key="OverBackground" EndPoint="0,1" StartPoint="0,0"> <GradientStop Color="#da5e69" Offset="0"/> <GradientStop Color="#d12e27" Offset="1"/> </LinearGradientBrush> <LinearGradientBrush x:Key="ClickBackground" EndPoint="0,1" StartPoint="0,0"> <GradientStop Color="#d22828" Offset="1"/> <GradientStop Color="#b00000" Offset="0"/> </LinearGradientBrush> ... <Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> ... <Setter Property="Background" Value="{StaticResource NormalBackground}"/> ... </Style> </ResourceDictionary> and I apply it by doing the following from my main Application.xaml: <Application ...> <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Themes/Button.xaml"/> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> </Application.Resources> </Application> What I try to do is to change background color, for example, from White to Lime for 6 seconds by doing this from one of my pages, MyPage1.xaml, using StoryBoard: <Page x:Class="MyWPFApp.Pages.MyPage1" ...> <Page.Resources> ... <Storyboard x:Key="sbBtnResetHC" Storyboard.TargetName="BtnResetHC" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(Background). (SolidColorBrush.Color)"> <ColorAnimation From="Pink" To="Green" By="Blue" Duration="0:0:6" RepeatBehavior="3x" AutoReverse="True" /> </Storyboard> ... </Page.Resources> ... <Button x:Name="BtnResetHC" Click="BtnResetHC_Click" Width="90" Visibility="Collapsed" /> ... </Page> and from code behind MyPage1.xaml.cs I start animation by doing this: Storyboard sb = (Storyboard)FindResource("sbBtnResetHC"); sb.Begin(); when the button is visible, but it doesn't work for me. Any ideas what's wrong? Maybe another possibility, as I want the animation starts on button visible is to do a trigger for the button over Visibility property, Is it a better solution? Thanks a lot!

  • Why isn't my div scrolling horizontally when adding multiple images?

    - by George
    I have an outer div, and inside of that, I have an inner div which contains a list of images. When the images are wider than the outer div, I want to have it scroll horizontally, but instead, it just puts the image on the next line instead of expanding. If I add many rows, the div does scroll vertically, but horizontally, it doesn't do it. This happens on every browser I've tried - Firefox, Chrome, IE, and Safari. Here is the css: #grid-container { left:33px; position:relative; width:300px; } #grid { width:310px; height:400px; overflow:auto; margin-bottom: 15px; } #grid-container ul { width:305px; } #grid-container li { float:left; list-style-type:none; padding:5px 15px 5px 15px; height:88px; text-align:center; } .image-row { float:left; margin-left: 10px; } .grid-image { height:50px; margin-left:-20px; } Here is the html: <div id="grid-container"> <div id="grid"> <div id="row1" class="image-row"> <ul> <li> <img id="img1" class="grid-image" src="images/img1.jpg"> </li> <li> <img id="img2" class="grid-image" src="images/img2.jpg"> </li> <li> <img id="img3" class="grid-image" src="images/img3.jpg"> </li> <li> <img id="img4" class="grid-image" src="images/img4.jpg"> </li> </ul> </div> <div id="row1" class="image-row"> <ul> <li> <img id="img5" class="grid-image" src="images/img5.jpg"> </li> <li> <img id="img6" class="grid-image" src="images/img6.jpg"> </li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> The problem is img4 is showing on the second row (with img5 and img5 on the third row), even though it should on the first row and the grid div should scroll horizontally. It does scroll vertically. Can I force the div to expand? If I remove the width from the grid div, I do get the horizontal scroll bar, but the image is still on the second row.
