• Added AJAX controls to toolkit but can't add them to webpage, no smart tags

  Added AJAX controls to my toolkit as per directions online. They appear in the AJAX Toolkit tab in the toolbox just fine. Try to add them to design view and does not work. Tried selecting the textbox and clicking the smart tag to add the extender but there is not smart tag. Googled and found suggestion to reset toolbox and re-add AJAX controls. Did that and problem remains. Any help is appreciated!!!

• How to dynamically add a Javascript function (and invoke)

  Based on a click event on the page, via ajax I fetch a block of html and script, I am able to take the script element and append it to the head element, however WebKit based browsers are not treating it as script (ie. I cannot invoke a function declared in the appended script). Using the Chrome Developer Tools I can see that my script node is indeed there, but it shows up differently then a script block that is not added dynamically, a non-dynamic script has a text child element and I cannot figure out a way to duplicate this for the dynamic script. Any ideas or better ways to be doing this? The driving force is there is potentially a lot of html and script that would never be needed unless a user clicks on a particular tab, in which case the relevant content (and script) would be loaded. • Can't find .js file in my mainBundle?!

  This is driving me crazy as I cannot figure out what in the world is going on. I load up files form you main bundle all the time, xml files, html files, etc. But, now I am trying to get the contents of a javascript file but it can never find it. I am using: NSData *jsData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"global" ofType:@"js"]]; if (jsData) { NSLog(@"%@", jsData); } else { NSLog(@"Can't find file"); return; } Even checking the [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"global" ofType:@"js"] string returns null. My globaly.js file is in my Resources folder, the exact location where my other files are location that work totally fine using the above method. Why can't it find my js file?

• How to create a 2D map of room by a few images/movie frames ?

  I'd like to create a simple 2D map of a room by getting pictures (ceiling) of all directions (360° - e.g. movie frames), recognize the walls by edge detection, delete other unwanted objects, concat the images at the right position (cf. walls, panorama) and finally create the approximate 2D map (looking on it from above). Getting the scale would be another parameter, which might be useful. I have some own ideas at the moment, by using e.g. the Sobel algorithm, but it would be interesting if somebody out there knows some project or software (GPL,freeware prefered) doing this already, as I'm still looking for some examples, which might help me. Thanks.

• Ruby Koans 202: Why does the correct answer give a syntax error?

  I'm working through the about_classes.rb file in the Ruby Koans, and have hit a brick wall with the "inside_a_method_self_refers_to_the_containing_object" test. Here's the code: class Dog7 attr_reader :name def initialize(initial_name) @name = initial_name end def get_self self end def to_s __ end def inspect "<Dog named '#{name}'>" end end def test_inside_a_method_self_refers_to_the_containing_object fido = Dog7.new("Fido") fidos_self = fido.get_self assert_equal <Dog named 'Fido'>, fidos_self end So, I'm trying to make the first half of the assert_equal evaluate to the second half (fidos_self). When I work it out in irb, fidos_self returns <Dog named 'Fido'>, but I keep receiving a syntax error for that answer. I've seen this similar post: Ruby Koans: Where are the quotes in this return value?, but his solution (putting fido instead of <Dog named 'Fido'>) causes my rake to abort, saying the stack level is too deep. This is driving me nuts. What am I missing here?

  Hi I am making a restful request to google map, but I run into following error; java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 400 for URL: http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/distancematrix/xml?origins=Washington, DC USA&destinations=Los+Angeles+CA+USA&mode=driving&sensor=false at sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream(HttpURLConnection.java:1436) at java.net.URLConnection.getContent(URLConnection.java:688) I believe its making a correct connection as I can get the correct response by copying the above URL into my browser, I am wondering why I am getting 400 error code in my console and I dont get the correct response when java is sending the request.

• How do I wrap a repeatbale set of elements in jQuery?

  In jQuery how would I go about wrapping a repeatable set of elements with a div? For example I have: img h4 p img h4 p img h4 p I need to wrap each img, h4, p set with a div class="container". • building an XML service parsing library

  This is more of a design question I suppose. My company offers a web service to our client that spits data out in a custom xml format. I'd like to build a java library we can offer so our customers can just feed it the url and we will turn it into a set of POJOs built from the response. I can obviously just create a library that will do some simple xml parsing and building of the POJOs but I'm looking to build something a bit more robust. My brain is pulling me in a million directions, wondering if anyone has some pointers or some code to poke at. Was thinking about adding an Abdera extension, but it's not really a syndication format that fits the Abdera model. And most of the popular service libraries (twitter, facebook) all rely on standards format parsers, of which our format isn't.

• Giving users a "reputation system" - Should I... ?

  Hi folks, I'm thinking of adding a reputation system to a web application, the site is already being used so I'm trying to be careful about my choices. I'm developing in Django/Python, thought this would be important. Reputation is generated in all actions that contribute to the site, similar to Stackoverflow's system. I know there are literally millions of ways of implementing this, and this is why I feel quite lost. Two alternatives I am not sure about are: Keep track of reasons why reputation was incremented Ignore reasons in order to reduce complexity of the site and overhead Would be happy with a few pointers, and directions. • Mysterious c debugging problem when trying to utilize printfs

  Ok, folks. I've never encountered this before and it boggles the mind and is illogical. I have a somewhat complex loop and I want to try and see if everything is working by putting some printf statements. I look the intermediate products using printf and verify that the answer is ok. Then, when I comment out the printf to the intermediate products, the answer is WRONG. Has anyone ever encountered this? This is driving me insane and I don't see how the printfs could change an answer.... X_x If it helps, I am using a c/c++ compiler for a DSP. Thanks for any advice.. Here is a snippet... printf("splitBackground = %d, numWindowPoints = %d\n", splitBackground, numWindowPoints); splitBackground = splitBackground/numWindowPoints; printf("%d ", splitBackground); This is good but when I comment out the first line of code, it turns out to be hugely incorrect. :(

• How does LocationManager work

  I have been going through the google docs for the locationManager API and specifically over the method locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 60000, 10, this); In the above line, the manager will check for location updates after each minute and distance of 10 meters. My question is does it actually take both the parameters into consideration? For example if you are driving along how will the method work? Will it start looking for updated locations since you are over the minimum distance between the two updates or will it wait for a minute irrespective? If someone can tell me its behavior, it would be great. Thanks.!!

• With google maps, can you use google's own popup windows?

  I've implemented a google map with points and stuff that uses an address that the user inputs. When you click a point, the popup bubble appears with the name and address in. Often this name and address is a prominent location, as it's used for meetings and things, such as a university. If you google the address yourself on maps.google.co.uk then you get google's own popup bubble, which often has a photo, information, opening hours, links to directions, reviews, etc. etc. I am wondering if there's a way to use that popup dialog instead of my own, where it is available. I can't see anything in the API to do this. I'm using V2 as we support IE6 in a lot of our users, but I've been told recently I can upgrade to V3 should I need functionality from it. Any ideas?

Instead of having to do $myArray = myClass::giveMeArray(); $myValue = $myArray[$myKey]; I'd like to do something along the lines of $myValue = array_value_from_key(myClass::giveMeArray(),$myKey); When an object is returned, you can chain the object such as $myValue = myClass::giveMeObject()->aValue; Voila, nice and clean.. not being able to find what seems to be a simple and trivial function is driving me crazy... • regex to match specific html tags

  I need to match html tags(the whole tag), based on the tag name. For script tags I have this: <script.+src=.+(\.js|\.axd).+(</script>|>) It correctly matches both tags in the following html: <script src="Scripts/JScript1.js" type="text/javascript" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="Scripts/JScript2.js" /> However, when I do link tags with the following: <link.+href=.+(\.css).+(</link>|>) It matches all of this at once(eg it returns one match containing both items): <link href="Stylesheets/StyleSheet1.css" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="Stylesheets/StyleSheet2.css" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" /> What am I missing here? The regexes are essentially identical except for the text to match to? Also, I know that regex is not a great tool for HTML parsing...I will probably end up using the HtmlAgilityPack in the end, but this is driving me nuts and I want an answer if only for my own mental health!

• Can't get jQuery and IE to be friends

  Using jQuery and the Cycle plugin. Runs flawless in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and the latest version of Opera. Won't run in older versions of Opera, and of course, IE. I know its running Java, because its picking up the rollovers. This is driving me batty. Hopefully its something simple.   Imagine a robot sitting on the upper left hand corner of an NxN grid. The robot can only move in two directions: right and down. How many possible paths are there for the robot? I could find solution to this problem on Google, but I am not very clear with the explanations. I am trying to clearly understand the logic on how to solve this and implement in Java. I tried also like described in this article to set the browser.link.open_newwindow and browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction preferences but that doesn't bringt anything. And I tried it with all Target attributes which came in my mind. So I'm grateful for any hints, tips what ever this is driving me crazy...

  I'm looking for a small, fast (in both directions) bijective mapping between the following list of integers and a subset of the range 0-127: 0x200C, 0x200D, 0x200E, 0x200F, 0x2013, 0x2014, 0x2015, 0x2017, 0x2018, 0x2019, 0x201A, 0x201C, 0x201D, 0x201E, 0x2020, 0x2021, 0x2022, 0x2026, 0x2030, 0x2039, 0x203A, 0x20AA, 0x20AB, 0x20AC, 0x20AF, 0x2116, 0x2122 One obvious solution is: y = x>>2 & 0x40 | x & 0x3f; x = 0x2000 | y<<2 & 0x100 | y & 0x3f; Edit: I was missing some of the values, particularly 0x20Ax, which don't work with the above. Another obvious solution is a lookup table, but without making it unnecessarily large, a lookup table would require some bit rearrangement anyway and I suspect the whole task can be better accomplished with simple bit rearrangement. For the curious, those magic numbers are the only "large" Unicode codepoints that appear in legacy ISO-8859 and Windows codepages.

• Can I preload multiple video resources to load in the same HTML5 <video> element?

  I'm working out details on a web application which involves the sequential loading of a long series of (very short) video clips, one after the other, with occasional input from the user establishing new directions for which video clips to load. I would like to be able to have the browser preload the video clips five at a time. However, the way that we currently have the site working is by means of a single video element which is having its src attribute continually updated through JavaScript. So, my question is, is there a straightforward way I can get the browser to preload multiple video clips even though I am ultimately loading them all (one at a time) into the same video element? This is my first question here, so let me know if I could have phrased that better...

• 2 table SQL Query weird results

  Ok this is driving me nuts, I need to write an SQL query that will grab product information from 2 tables. The first table 'products' contains the productId, productname, quantityperunit and unitprice. • Python - read numbers from text file and put into list

  So like the title says im starting to learn some python and im having trouble picking up on this technique. What I need to accomplish is to read in some numbers and store them in a list. The text file looks like the following: 0 0 3 50 50 100 4 20 Basically these are coordinates and directions to be used for python's turtle to make shapes. I got that part down the only problem is getting them in a correct format. So what I can not figure out is how to get those numbers from the file into [ [0, 0, 3, 50], [50, 100, 4, 20] ] A list, with each four coordinates being a list in that one big list.
