  • MSDN Live 2010 &ndash; Delivered : 24 sessions (4 x 6) on Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server

    - by terje
We (Mikael Nitell and me) got a whole track on the Norwegian MSDN Live tour this year.  We did these as a pair, and covered 4 cities over 4 days, 6 sessions per day, taking 8 hours to come through it.  The Islandic volcano made the travels a bit rough, but we managed 6 flights out of 8. The first one had to go by van instead, 7-8 hour drive each way together with other MSDN Live presenters – a memorable tour! Oslo was the absolute top point.  We had to change hall to a bigger one. People were crowding, and even the big hall was packed!  The presentations were mostly based on demos, but we had a few slides as well.  They have been uploaded to my SkyDrive.  Info to aliens – some of the text may be Norwegian. The sessions were as follows: Overview of news in Visual Studio and Team Foundation server 2010 Ensuring Quality with VS/TFS 2010 Releasing products with VS/TFS 2010 No More No Repro with VS/TFS 2010 Performance Testing and Parallel Programming with VS/TFS 2010 Migrating to VS/TFS 2010 Tips, tricks, news and some best practices with VS/TFS 2010   In the coming days, I will post up examples from the demos too, with explanations of how they are intended to work. These entries will also contain stuff we had to remove from the actual presentations due to the time constraints. We managed to create recordings of two of the sessions, which will be uploaded to Channel 9 by Microsoft, afaik.   I will update this blog with information about exact locations when that is done. Also note we’re (read:Osiris Data AS) running both Upgrade and Deep Dive courses  on VS/TFS 2010 now in May.  Please look here for more info. If you want to be informed, follow me on Twitter.  All blog entries will be announced on twitter.

  • Is there an alternative to HTML Web Sockets, now that Firefox 4 has disabled them?

    - by Pino
I've been checking out some of the latest multiplayer engines in HTML all supporting multi-user games (Very nice) - I believe all these engines use Web Sockets for communication. That’s why we’ve decided to disable support for WebSocket in Firefox 4, starting with beta 8 due to a protocol-level security issue. Beta 7 of Firefox has support for the -76 version of the protocol, the same version that’s included with Chrome and Safari. Beta 8 of Firefox 4 will remove that support. Anne van Kesteren of Opera also announced that Opera are dropping Websocket support. We are confident that other browser developers will follow. Source: Websockets Disabled in FireFox 4 I've just come accross the above, so no sockets in Firefox 4 or Opera.... thats big. Is anyone aware of an alternate or is it Chrome or do we need to just sit and wait for the next release of the major browsers. More info : Rocket Engine appears to work with all browsers including IE8 (http://rocketpack.fi/engine/) what will it be using as a method of communication?

  • Glimpse: Open Source Web Development

    - by Elizabeth Ayer
We’re delighted to announce that Red Gate will be backing Glimpse! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the project, Glimpse is an open source tool which does for the server what Firebug does for the client. It’s been in beta for the last year, and we’re very excited to give Glimpse the support and dedicated effort needed to take it to a v1 and beyond. Glimpse’s founders (Nik Molnar and Anthony van der Hoorn) have joined Red Gate, and they’re just as excited as we are about the opportunities that active development of Glimpse will bring. They will continue to write code, support the community and drive the project forward (as they’ve done since its inception). With full-time attention on growing Glimpse and its community, users and developers can expect the project to accelerate, with frequent releases of new functionality. Red Gate is excited about its first major involvement with open source. You may well be wondering, though, why Red Gate is doing this. Glimpse dovetails beautifully with Red Gate’s .NET tools, which makes Glimpse an ideal framework for plugging in advanced, paid-for functionality (like performance analysis) the way web developers want to see it. As a means to this end, we will contribute to the Glimpse open source project in order to broaden its adoption and delight web developers. Since bringing in .NET Reflector in 2008, we’ve learnt sharp lessons from the community about the right and wrong ways to engage with developers, not to mention the enduring value of free. Glimpse further shows what the .NET community can achieve through open source collaboration, and we’re looking forward to working with the Glimpse community to make something enduring and awesome. Nik and Anthony, themselves passionate advocates of community-driven software, will continue to control the Glimpse project, steering it to best meet the needs of its users and contributors. If you have any questions or queries about Glimpse, or Red Gate’s involvement in the project, please tweet with the #glimpse hashtag, contact us at Red Gate on [email protected], or post to the Glimpse Development Forum on Google Groups.

  • Another big year for the ADF EMG at OOW12

    - by Chris Muir
Oracle Open World 2012 has only just started, but in one way it's just finished!  All the ADF EMG's OOW content is over for another year! The unique highlight this year for me was the first ever ADF EMG social night held on Saturday, where I finally had the chance to meet so many ADF community members who I've known over the internet, but never met in person.  What?  You didn't get an invite?  Oh well, better luck next year ;-) Seriously our budget was limited, so in the happy-dictatorship sort of way I had to limit RSVPs to just 40 people.  Hopefully next year we can do something bigger and better for the wider community. Following directly on from the Saturday social night the ADF EMG ran a full day of sessions at the user group Sunday.  I wont go over the content again, but to say thank you very much to all our presenters and helpers, including Gert Poel, Pitier Gillis, Aino Andriessen, Simon Haslam, Ken Mizuta, Lucas Jellema and the FMW roadshow team, Ronald van Luttikhuizen, Guido Schmutz, Luc Bors, Aino Andriessen and Lonneke Dikmans. Also special thanks must go to Doug Cockroft and Bambi Price for their time and effort in organizing the ADF EMG room behind the scenes via the APOUC. To be blunt Doug and Bambi really do deserve serious thanks because they had to wear a lot of Oracle politics behind the scenes to get the rooms organized (oh, and deal with me fretting too! ;-). Finally thanks to all the members and OOW delegates for turning up and supporting the group on the day.  In the end the ADF EMG exists for you, and I hope you found it worthwhile. Onto 2013 (oh, and the rest of OOW12 ;-)

  • Windows Phone 7 event

    - by Dennis Vroegop
This might not be of interest to anyone living outside of the Netherlands, but I still wanted to share this. On march 10th the dutch .net usergroup dotNed (of which I am chairman) organizes a LAN party together with the company Sevensteps. Sevensteps is a big player in the Surface area: they are one of the few companies whose applications are part of the standard tools you get when you buy a Surface unit. They were also present at the CES in Las Vegas earlier this year to introduce the SUR40, as mentioned in my previous post. But they do not only develop software for the Surface, they also do a lot of interesting things on other platforms. One of these is Windows Phone 7, or WP7 in short. Sevensteps and dotNed have joined forces to organize a free full day event where we will develop a WP7 application. The people attending will be developers (experienced and not so experienced on WP7), designers and all other sorts of people you’d expect in a project team. The day will start around 9.00 am and will end when the app is finished. We will form teams of both experienced and not experienced developers so that we can learn from each other. Each team will have their own task to perform, and in the end all parts will be assembled to form a killer WP7 app. As with everything that dotNed does this event is free for everyone. Microsoft will pay for dinner, Sevensteps will provide the room, lunch and ideas (and their expertise of course) and the rest is up to us! So if you are in The Netherlands that date, and you feel like hanging out with other WP7 or wannabe WP7 developers, join us! For more information (in Dutch) see http://www.dotned.nl Tags van Technorati: wp7,dotned

One announcement during the presentation was the plan to move m2e-wtp plugin into the m2e project at Eclipse. The project proposal was posted yesterday afternoon for those who are interested - http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/technology.m2e.m2e-wtp/. Jason said that m2e-wtp will not make it into the m2e Juno release but they expect the code to be transitioned over to Eclipse over the next six months. Getting the maven and wtp project models to play nicely together has been an issue for quite some time for our users. Hopefully this is a good step toward resolving those issues.

  • HighCharts : Adding Hyperlinks to the X-Axis of the chart

    - by learner
I have been using HighCharts in my PHP website by migrating it from older charts and I am very impressed by the number of graph options and functions with this library. However I am not able provide hyperlinks to the values of the x-axis(or y-axis) in order to navigate to another URI. Code of Categories in this case xAxis: { categories: [ 'Jan', 'Feb', 'Mar', 'Apr', 'May', 'Jun', 'Jul', 'Aug', 'Sep', 'Oct', 'Nov', 'Dec' ] }, Can anyone point me to an example or documentation on Highcharts if available. Thanks

  • MS Chart Control Scale - Line graph show 12 months

    - by Mike
    Hi, On my X Axis, I have months. The chart shows up to 11 points, i.e. Jan - Nov of the same year, but when I add 12 points (Jan - Dec), it will do an auto label thing and change the interval for every 4 months. How can I change the graph so that it shows 12 months before it does the auto labels? Here is the server control code I am currently using. <asp:CHART ID="Chart1" runat="server" BorderColor="181, 64, 1" BorderDashStyle="Solid" BorderWidth="2" Height="296px" ImageLocation="~/TempImages/ChartPic_#SEQ(300,3)" ImageType="Png" Palette="None" Width="700px" BorderlineColor=""> <legends> <asp:Legend BackColor="Transparent" Font="Trebuchet MS, 8pt, style=Bold" IsTextAutoFit="False" Name="Default" Alignment="Center" DockedToChartArea="ChartArea1" Docking="Top" IsDockedInsideChartArea="False" Title="Legend"> </asp:Legend> </legends> <series> <asp:Series BorderColor="180, 26, 59, 105" BorderWidth="2" ChartType="Line" Color="220, 65, 140, 240" MarkerSize="6" Name="Series1" ShadowColor="Black" ShadowOffset="2" XValueType="DateTime" YValueType="Double" LabelFormat="c0" LegendText="Actual" MarkerStyle="Circle"> </asp:Series> <asp:Series BorderColor="180, 26, 59, 105" BorderWidth="2" ChartType="Line" Color="220, 224, 64, 10" MarkerSize="6" Name="Series2" ShadowColor="Black" ShadowOffset="2" XValueType="DateTime" YValueType="Double" LabelFormat="c0" LegendText="Projected" MarkerStyle="Circle"> </asp:Series> <asp:Series BorderColor="180, 26, 59, 105" BorderWidth="2" ChartArea="ChartArea1" ChartType="Line" Legend="Default" Name="Series3" LabelFormat="c0" XValueType="DateTime" YValueType="Double" Color="0, 192, 192" MarkerSize="6" ShadowColor="Black" ShadowOffset="2" LegendText="Actual Credit Limit" MarkerStyle="Circle"> </asp:Series> </series> <chartareas> <asp:ChartArea BackColor="#DEEDF7" BackGradientStyle="TopBottom" BackSecondaryColor="White" BorderColor="64, 64, 64, 64" BorderDashStyle="Solid" Name="ChartArea1" ShadowColor="Transparent"> <area3dstyle inclination="40" isclustered="False" isrightangleaxes="False" lightstyle="Realistic" perspective="9" rotation="25" wallwidth="3" /> <axisy linecolor="64, 64, 64, 64" islabelautofit="False" isstartedfromzero="False"> <LabelStyle Font="Trebuchet MS, 8.25pt, style=Bold" Format="c0" /> <majorgrid linecolor="64, 64, 64, 64" /> </axisy> <axisx linecolor="64, 64, 64, 64" intervaloffsettype="Months" intervaltype="Months" islabelautofit="False" isstartedfromzero="False"> <LabelStyle Font="Trebuchet MS, 8.25pt, style=Bold" Angle="-60" Format="MMM yy" /> <majorgrid linecolor="64, 64, 64, 64" /> </axisx> </asp:ChartArea> </chartareas> </asp:CHART> Thanks.

    - by janoliver
Hey there, I want to call gnuplot with a shell command, all the commands are stored in, let's say, "load.gp". If I start the gnuplot shell and type "load 'load.gp'" I can change the viewpoint by dragging the splot with the mouse around. The Problem is, I can't figure out how to reach that without being in the gnuplot shell. echo "load 'load.gp'" | gnuplot -persist or gnuplot -persist 'load.gp' won't work. Can somebody help me? Thanks, Jan

This is SQL Server 2000.

Hey guys, I'm developing an extension for Safari 5 at the moment. In my extension, I use an additional toolbar, with selectboxes in it. Now, it would be great to style these like the folders in the bookmarks toolbar look. I know that it would be possible to replace my select with a completely styleable ul-list or somethin like that, but maybe there is a simpler solution. Doesn't apple provide extra tools to imitate their look? Best regards and thanks for help, Jan

Here's my code: Cufon Cufon.set('fontFamily', 'DIN'); Cufon.replace('.listing_04 li a .bx1 .right .head_bx h2', { hover: true, hoverables: { a: true, div: true } }); CSS .listing_04 li a .bx1 .right .head_bx h2 { color: #e91397; font-size: 16px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } .listing_04 li a:hover .bx1 .right .head_bx h2 { color: #ffff00; } Code <div class="listing_04"> <ul> <li> <a href="#"> <div class="bx1"> <div class="left"> <img src="images/friends_only.jpg" alt="" border="0" class="img_border01" /> <div class="staring_bx"> <img src="images/star1.png" border="0" /> <img src="images/star1.png" border="0" /> <img src="images/star1.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /> <img src="images/star2.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /> <img src="images/star2.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /></div> </div> <div class="right"> <div class="head_bx"> <h2><strong>The Party Girls</strong></h2> My Favourites</div> <p> By : <b>Modi</b><br /> 19 Jan 2010 @ 20:20<br /> Views : <strong>1542484</strong><br /> Comments : <strong>84 </strong></p> </div> <div class="clear"></div> </div> </a> </li> <li> <a href="#"> <div class="bx1"> <div class="left"> <img src="images/img_07.jpg" alt="" border="0" class="img_border01" /> <div class="staring_bx"> <img src="images/star1.png" border="0" /> <img src="images/star1.png" border="0" /> <img src="images/star1.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /> <img src="images/star2.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /> <img src="images/star2.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /></div> </div> <div class="right"> <div class="head_bx"> <h2><strong>The Party Girls</strong></h2> My Favourites</div> <p> By : <b>Modi</b><br /> 19 Jan 2010 @ 20:20<br /> Views : <strong>1542484</strong><br /> Comments : <strong>84 </strong></p> </div> <div class="clear"></div> </div> </a> </li> <li> <a href="#"> <div class="bx1"> <div class="left"> <img src="images/resticted_image.jpg" alt="" border="0" class="img_border01" /> <div class="staring_bx"> <img src="images/star1.png" border="0" /> <img src="images/star1.png" border="0" /> <img src="images/star1.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /> <img src="images/star2.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /> <img src="images/star2.png" width="16" height="15" border="0" /></div> </div> <div class="right"> <div class="head_bx"> <h2><strong>The Party Girls</strong></h2> My Favourites</div> <p> By : <b>Modi</b><br /> 19 Jan 2010 @ 20:20<br /> Views : <strong>1542484</strong><br /> Comments : <strong>84 </strong></p> </div> <div class="clear"></div> </div> </a> </li> </ul> <div class="clear"></div> </div> Example URL: http://dev.splished.360southclients.com/test.php In this test I've disabled cufon for you to see that the h2 colour change works when you hover over the .bx1 div, click "turn cufon on" to see it with the cufon.

  • Occasional Date or timezone discrepancy in hudson or maven with jodatime

    - by TheStijn
hi, I hope following explanation will make sense because it's a weird problem we're facing and hard to describe. We have a maven project which gets build in hudson and that contains some unit tests where dates are used and asserted. The hudson server runs on solaris. Now, occasionally (like 30% of the times) the unit tests using dates fail because 3,5 hours are deducted from the specified time in the unit test and hence asserts start failing. The other 70% everything works fine although nothing at all changed in the code and we run the hudson job several times an hour. I add following code to a unittest to check the time: @Test public void testDate() { System.out.println("new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate();"); System.out.println(new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate()); System.out.println(new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate().getTime()); Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cal.set(Calendar.YEAR, 2011); cal.set(Calendar.MONTH, 0); cal.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, 5); cal.set(Calendar.HOUR, 0); cal.set(Calendar.MINUTE, 0); cal.set(Calendar.SECOND, 0); cal.set(Calendar.MILLISECOND, 0); System.out.println("cal.getTime();"); System.out.println(cal.getTime()); System.out.println(cal.getTime().getTime()); } So basically it should print the same thing when using jodatime or plain old Calendar. This is the case in 70% of the runs; for the other 30% I get following printouts: Running TestSuite new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate(); Tue Jan 04 21:30:00 MET 2011 1294173000000 cal.getTime(); Wed Jan 05 12:00:00 MET 2011 1294225200000 Local maven tests never appear the pose this problem and we can't figure out what could be the cause of it. Especially, we can't think of a single reason why the tests sometimes pass and sometimes fail without changing any code nor hudson or server setting. Also, we run the maven install with cobertura which means that the unit tests are run twice. It happens also that they pass the first time and fail the second time or the other way around or that they fail both times. Thanks for any help, Stijn

  • Sharepoint calculated Date field shows incorrectly in non-US region

    - by Proforce
If a SharePoint user (with Regional Settings set to UK) views a calculated date field in a View details form, the field shows incorrectly showing the date is in US format, thus 01-Apr-2010 for 03-Jan-2010, and doesnt show unresolvalble dates such as 31-Dec-2010. This applies even with a simnple =[Modified] formula The Server is set up in the US for that locale. Does anyone know of a workaround for this or if there is a patch available ? Thanks in advance..
