  • JPA Entity Manager resource handling

    - by chiragshahkapadia
Every time I call JPA method its creating entity and binding query. My persistence properties are: <property name="hibernate.dialect" value="org.hibernate.dialect.Oracle10gDialect"/> <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class" value="net.sf.ehcache.hibernate.SingletonEhCacheProvider"/> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_second_level_cache" value="true"/> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_query_cache" value="true"/> And I am creating entity manager the way shown below: emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("pu"); em = emf.createEntityManager(); em = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("pu").createEntityManager(); Is there any nice way to manage entity manager resource instead create new every time or any property can set in persistence. Remember it's JPA. See below binding log every time : 15:35:15,527 INFO [AnnotationBinder] Binding entity from annotated class: * 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: * = * 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: * = * 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [QueryBinder] Binding Named query: 15:35:15,527 INFO [EntityBinder] Bind entity com.* on table * 15:35:15,542 INFO [HibernateSearchEventListenerRegister] Unable to find org.hibernate.search.event.FullTextIndexEventListener on the classpath. • Handle mysql restart in SQLAlchemy

    - by wRAR
My Pylons app uses local MySQL server via SQLAlchemy and python-MySQLdb. When the server is restarted, open pooled connections are apparently closed, but the application doesn't know about this and apparently when it tries to use such connection it receives "MySQL server has gone away": File '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/sqlalchemy/engine/default.py', line 277 in do_execute cursor.execute(statement, parameters) File '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/MySQLdb/cursors.py', line 166 in execute self.errorhandler(self, exc, value) File '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/MySQLdb/connections.py', line 35 in defaulterrorhandler raise errorclass, errorvalue OperationalError: (OperationalError) (2006, 'MySQL server has gone away') This exception is not caught anywhere so it bubbles up to the user. If I should handle this exception somewhere in my code, please show the place for such code in a Pylons WSGI app. Or maybe there is a solution in SA itself?

  • cookies handling on webrequest and response

    - by manish patel
    I have created a application that has a function mainpost. It is created to post data on a https sites. Here I want to handle cookies in this function. How can I do this task? public string Mainpost(string website, string content) { // this is what we are sending string post_data = content; // this is where we will send it string uri = website; // create a request HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(uri); request.KeepAlive = false; request.ProtocolVersion = HttpVersion.Version10; request.Method = "POST"; // turn our request string into a byte stream byte[] postBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(post_data); // this is important - make sure you specify type this way request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; request.ContentLength = postBytes.Length; Stream requestStream = request.GetRequestStream(); // now send it requestStream.Write(postBytes, 0, postBytes.Length); requestStream.Close(); // grab te response and print it out to the console along with the status // code HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); string str = (new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()).ReadToEnd()); Console.WriteLine(response.StatusCode); return str; }

  • Error Messaged and Error Code design

    - by Ved
We are designing set of web services which will return XML string in response. These are RESTFul services so I will have to send exception inside element. I am planing to design set of Error code which can help me determine where level occured just by looking at the code. For Example 1000 - Application Level 2000 - DB level 3000 - Network level so if I have error message then I can know right away that this was an application level error and it came from 1st business module. I am not very experience in this so I would love to here your thoughts and criticism. Thanks

  • Handling data update/freshness issue in web-app in general (or GWT specifically)

    - by edwin.nathaniel
In general, how do you guys handle user update/data freshness interaction with the user (UI issue) in web-apps? For example: Multi-users web-app (like project management) Login to a "virtual" space People can update project names, etc How to handle a situation such that: user-A and user-B load a project with title "Project StackOverflow" user-B updates the title to "Project StackExchange" user-A updates the title after user-B update operation to "Project Basecamp" The question I'm asking is from the user perspective (UI) and not about transactional operation. What do most people do in this situation? What would you do after user-B updates the title in user-A screen/view? What happened when user-A tries to update the title after user-B finished his/her update operation? do you inform user-A that the title has changed and he/she has to reload the page? do you go ahead and change the title and let user-B has old data? Do you do some sort of application-level "locking" mechanism? (if someone is updating, nobody else can?) Or fix the application workflow? (who has the access to be able to change things, etc). What would be the simplest solution, but at the same time not annoy the user with more dialog/warning messages. I've encountered this particular problem frequently in a GWT app specifically where domain models are being passed around and refreshing the whole app/client-side isn't the optimal solution in my mind (since it means the whole "loading"/initialization phase must be executed again in this specific environment). Maybe the answer is to stay away from GWT? :) Love to hear options, solutions, and advises from you guys. Thanks

  • GWT removeHandler on first event notification

    - by Keith
I want to remove a GWT event handler the first time I receive an event. I also want to avoid polluting my class with tracking registration objects that aren't really necessary. I currently have it coded as: final HandlerRegistration[] registrationRef = new HandlerRegistration[1]; registrationRef[0] = dialog.addFooHandler(new FooHandler() { public void onFoo(FooEvent event) { HandlerRegistration removeMe = registrationRef[0]; if(removeMe != null) { removeMe.removeHandler(); } // do stuff here } }); but the use of registrationRef makes the code less readable. Is there a better way to do this without adding variables to my class?

  • Can I automatically throw descriptive exceptions with parameter values and class feild information?

    - by Robert H.
I honestly don't throw exceptions often. I catch them even less, ironically. I currently work in shop where we let them bubble up to avicode. For whatever reason, however, avicode isn't configured to capture some of the critical bits I need when these exceptions come bouncing back to my attention. Specifically, I'd like to see the parameter values and the class’s field data at the time of the exception. I’d guess with the large suite of .Net services that I could create a static method to crawl up the stack, gather these bits and store them in a string that I could stick in my exception message. I really don't are how long such a method would take to execute as performance is no longer a concern when I hit one of these scenarios. If it's possible, I'm sure someone has done it. If that's the case, I'm having a hard time finding it. I think any search containing "exception" brings back too many resutls. Anyway, can this be done? If so, some examples or links would be great. Thanks in advance for your time, Robert

  • Handling Datetime with decimal '2010-02-14 20:18:58.313000000'

    - by AaronLS
In SQL Server I have some textual data in varchar fields I am trying to convert to datetime's. The funny thing is this data at some point was in a datetime field, exported to flat file, and now I am reimporting it. The problem is it is in this format 2010-02-14 20:18:58.313000000 and the conversion to datetime fails. I have no idea how it ended up like this when it was originally extracted from a datetime column. Basically a table was exported to a flat file by someone else. The original table was lost. I am reimporting back from the flatfile. I could just drop the decimal but this would be like throwing out some of the data. I'd like to maintain as much precision as possible. How can I import this data from the varchar column back into a datetime column and preserve as much accuracy as possible?

  • Handling log-in / log-out via Objective-c

    - by squeezemylime
Having a real problem with this one...Tried using cookies to store variables, etc. but no luck. Writing an iPhone app where the User has to log in. There is an HTTPS call to get the person's userid, which is used practically everywhere else in the app, so that either has to be stored in a global variable or a cookie (for sending messages to other users, etc.) I tried the cookie route, but am having great difficulty storing (and retriving) a user ID in a cookie. The User should be able to then close out of the app and then reboot it and have the app retain their User ID as well, so I'm not sure global variables are necessarily the solution to this. Are there any best practices or suggestions?

  • LINQ method chaining and granular error handling

    - by Clafou
I have a method which can be written pretty neatly through method chaining: return viewer.ServerReport.GetParameters() .Single(p => p.Name == Convention.Ssrs.RegionParamName) .ValidValues .Select(v => v.Value); However I'd like to be able to do some checks at each point as I wish to provide helpful diagnostics information if any of the chained methods returns unexpected results. To achieve this, I need to break up all my chaining and follow each call with an if block. It makes the code a lot less readable. Ideally I'd like to be able to weave in some chained method calls which would allow me to handle unexpected outcomes at each point (e.g. throw a meaningful exception such as new ConventionException("The report contains no parameter") if the first method returns an empty collection). Can anyone suggest a simple way to achieve such a thing?

  • How to listen to keyboard events in GWT table?

    - by Olaf Mertens
In my GWT program I have a table that has a selected row. I'd like to move the row selection with the up- and down-keys on the keyboard. So I have to catch the key events somehow. The GWT docs handle key events in input fields only. But I don't have an input field! Is this possible at all? Maybe it is a DOM/Javascript restriction that GWT cannot work around...

  • Ruby Methods: how to return an usage string when insufficient arguments are given

    - by Shyam
Hi, After I have created a serious bunch of classes (with initialize methods), I am loading these into IRb to test each of them. I do so by creating simple instances and calling their methods to learn their behavior. However sometimes I don't remember exactly what order I was supposed to give the arguments when I call the .new method on the class. It requires me to look back at the code. However, I think it should be easy enough to return a usage message, instead of seeing: ArgumentError: wrong number of arguments (0 for 9) So I prefer to return a string with the human readable arguments, by example using "puts" or just a return of a string. Now I have seen the rescue keyword inside begin-end code, but I wonder how I could catch the ArgumentError when the initialize method is called. Thank you for your answers, feedback and comments!

  • how do I get only the stack trace from my app in rails?

    The default behavior seems to be printing large stack traces like ArgumentError (too few arguments): app/controllers/players_controller.rb:55:in `format' app/controllers/players_controller.rb:55:in `create' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/rack/request_handler.rb:92:in `process_request' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_request_handler.rb:207:in `main_loop' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/railz/application_spawner.rb:400:in `start_request_handler' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/railz/application_spawner.rb:351:in `handle_spawn_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/utils.rb:184:in `safe_fork' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/railz/application_spawner.rb:349:in `handle_spawn_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:352:in `__send__' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:352:in `main_loop' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:196:in `start_synchronously' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:163:in `start' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/railz/application_spawner.rb:209:in `start' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/spawn_manager.rb:262:in `spawn_rails_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server_collection.rb:126:in `lookup_or_add' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/spawn_manager.rb:256:in `spawn_rails_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server_collection.rb:80:in `synchronize' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server_collection.rb:79:in `synchronize' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/spawn_manager.rb:255:in `spawn_rails_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/spawn_manager.rb:154:in `spawn_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/spawn_manager.rb:287:in `handle_spawn_application' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:352:in `__send__' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:352:in `main_loop' /dh/passenger/lib/phusion_passenger/abstract_server.rb:196:in `start_synchronously' but I only want to see the stack trace from my app. In this case, it's the top 3 lines, which consist of the actual Error, and then the parts of my app. In this case I'd prefer to see this: ArgumentError (too few arguments): app/controllers/players_controller.rb:55:in `format' app/controllers/players_controller.rb:55:in `create' Is this possible?

  • How to get the current eventNumber for creating an event with NSEvent

    - by Chris
Hello I'm creating an os x application for which I try to add a remote interface. For this I need to be able to send mouse down and mouse up commands to the window of my application. I found code with which I can successfully do this, it looks as follows: int mask = 0x100; NSEvent* eventMouseDown = [NSEvent mouseEventWithType:NSLeftMouseDown location:p modifierFlags:mask timestamp:[NSDate timeIntervalSinceSystemStartup] windowNumber:[w windowNumber] context:[NSGraphicsContext graphicsContextWithWindow:w] eventNumber:++eventCounter +42599 clickCount:1 pressure:0]; NSLog(@"Mouse down event: %@", eventMouseDown); [[NSApplication sharedApplication] sendEvent:eventMouseDown]; I have only one problem with this code thought and this is the eventNumer parameter. As far as I found out it is a number which get increased with each event. But I cannot find a way to find the current number from where on I need to increase. The number I use there currently is just try and error and also does not seam to work always.

  • JSP: How can I still get the code on my error page to run, even if I can't display it?

    - by Josh Hinman
I've defined an error-page in my web.xml: <error-page> <exception-type>java.lang.Exception</exception-type> <location>/error.jsp</location> </error-page> In that error page, I have a custom tag that I created. The tag handler for this tag e-mails me the stacktrace of whatever error occurred. For the most part this works great. Where it doesn't work great is if the output has already begun being sent to the client at the time the error occurs. In that case, we get this: SEVERE: Exception Processing ErrorPage[exceptionType=java.lang.Exception, location=/error.jsp] java.lang.IllegalStateException I believe this error happens because we can't redirect a request to the error page after output has already started. The work-around I've used is to increase the buffer size on particularly large JSP pages. But I'm trying to write a generic error handler that I can apply to existing applications, and I'm not sure it's feasible to go through hundreds of JSP pages making sure their buffers are big enough. Is there a way to still allow my stack trace e-mail code to execute in this case, even if I can't actually display the error page to the client?

Although it runs on jail-broken phones but it does my required functionality. I wonder how? Has anyone idea about how these tasks can be accomplished?

  • Exceptions and Access Violations in Paint events in Windows

    - by Patrick
After executing some new code, my C++ application started to behave strange (incorrect or incomplete screen updates, sometimes no screen updates at all). After a while we found out that the new code is causing an Access Violation. Strange enough, the application simply keeps on running (but with the incorrect screen updates). At first we thought the problem was caused by a "try-catch(...)" construction (put there by an overactive ex-colleague), but several hours later (carefully inspecting the call stacks, adding many breakpoints, ...) we found out that if there's an Access Violation in a paint event, Windows catches it, and simply continues running the application. Is this normal behavior? Is it normal that Windows catches exceptions/errors during a paint event? Is there a way to disable this? (if not, it would mean that we have to always run in the debugger with all exceptions enabled while testing our code). Patrick

  • ASP.NET MVC: Returning a view with querystring intact

    - by ajbeaven
I'm creating a messaging web app in ASP.NET and are having some problems when displaying an error message to the user if they go to send a message and there is something wrong. A user can look through profiles of people and then click, 'send a message'. The following action is called (url is /message/create?to=username) and shows them a page where they can enter their message and send it: public ActionResult Create(string to) { ViewData["recipientUsername"] = to; return View(); } On the page that is displayed, the username is entered in to a hidden input field. When the user clicks 'send': [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection, string message) { try { //do message stuff that errors out } catch { ModelState.AddModelErrors(message.GetRuleViolations()); //adding errors to modelstate } return View(); } So now the error message is displayed to the user fine, however the url is changed in that it no longer has the querystring (/message/create). Again, this would be fine except that when the user clicks the refresh button, the page errors out as the Create action no longer has the 'to' parameter. So I'm guessing that I need to maintain my querystring somehow. Is there any way to do this or do I need to use a different method altogether?

  • Good programming style when handling multiple objects

    - by Glitch
I've been programming a software version of a board game. Thus far I have written the classes which will correspond to physical objects on the game board. I'm well into writing the program logic, however I've found that many of the logic classes require access to the same objects. At first I was passing the appropriate objects to methods as they were called, but this was getting very tedious, particularly when the methods required many objects to perform their tasks. To solve this, I created a class which initialises and stores all the objects I need. This allows me to access an object from any class by calling Assets.dice(), for example. But now that I've thought about it, this doesn't seem right. This is why I'm here, I fear that I've created some sort of god class. Is this fear unfounded, or have I created a recipe for disaster?

  • handling large arrays with array_diff

    - by bigmac
I have been trying to compare two arrays. Using array_intersect presents no problems. When using array_diff and arrays with ~5,000 values, it works. When I get to ~10,000 values, the script dies when I get to array_diff. Turning on error_reporting did not produce anything. I tried creating my own array_diff function: function manual_array_diff($arraya, $arrayb) { foreach ($arraya as $keya => $valuea) { if (in_array($valuea, $arrayb)) { unset($arraya[$keya]); } } return $arraya; } source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2479963/how-does-array-diff-work I would expect it to be less efficient that than the official array_diff, but it can handle arrays of ~10,000. Unfortunately, both array_diffs fail when I get to ~15,000. I tried the same code on a different machine and it runs fine, so it's not an issue with the code or PHP. There must be some limit set somewhere on that particular server. Any idea how I can get around that limit or alter it or just find out what it is?

  • How do I use the information about exceptions a method throws in .NET in my code?

    - by dotnetdev
For many methods in .NET, the exceptions they can potentially throw can be as many as 7-8 (one or two methods in XmlDocument, Load() being one I think, can throw this many exceptions). Does this mean I have to write 8 catch blocks to catch all of these exceptions (it is best practise to catch an exception with a specific exception block and not just a general catch block of type Exception). How do I use this information? Thanks

  • A general question about inheritence in the .NET framework

    - by Grant
I have a general question about inheritance in the .NET framework, lets say you have 2 classes, the first is called Parent and the second is called Child. Child inherits from Parent. Parent wants to ensure that each instance of child executes a specific piece of code when it loads irrespective of whether the child has their own onLoad code explicitly specified. From my experience, if i handle onLoad in the parent and not in the child, the parents onLoad code will fire but if its handled in both classes only the child's code will fire. Is this correct? and if so how can i ensure the parents code will always fire for the child...
