• Changing timezone without changing time in Java

  Hi! I'm receiving a datetime from a SOAP webservice without timzone information. Hence, the Axis deserializer assumes UTC. However, the datetime really is in Sydney time. I've solved the problem by substracting the timezone offset: Calendar trade_date = trade.getTradeDateTime(); TimeZone est_tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("Australia/Sydney"); long millis = trade_date.getTimeInMillis() - est_tz.getRawOffset(); trade_date.setTimeZone( est_tz ); trade_date.setTimeInMillis( millis ); However, I'm not sure if this solution also takes daylight saving into account. I think it should, because all operations are on UTC time. Any experiences with manipulating time in Java? Better ideas on how to solve this problem?

  Hi, Is there any way to write a MIDlet, but still use BlackBerry API classes and functions (including the APIs that require code signing)? In particular, I'm trying to use Kuix (http://www.kalmeo.org/projects/kuix). A pure MIDlet + Kuix (so without BlackBerry stuff) works perfectly after I converted the jar/jad to a cod file. As soon as I add BlackBerry API-stuff (CoverageInfo.COVERAGE_DIRECT in this case) I get a verification error when trying to run the cod file: Error starting $name: Module $name has verification error 2410 at offset 9a4f What can I do to solve this?

  I got a HttpResponse.Filter filter that replaces text in the HTML. I've created a class that derives from Stream and implemented the Write method: public override void Write(byte[] buffer, int offset, int count) I read all bytes from buffer and store them in a private StringBuilder, then I replace the text, and write the string back to the Stream. But how can I determine when the stream is at the end of the stream. I.e. how do I determine when to write back the html (string) to the stream?

• Opening a Silverlight project causes APPCRASH is Visual Studio 2008

  Hi guys I've got to add a Silverlight project to a solution for a deployment procedure (it's a pre-build dependency for the main project). I've installed Silverlight tools v3, silverlight itself and the silverlight sdk 3, and am using Visual Studio 2008 with ReSharper and the DevArt oracle database tools. Every time I go to open the relevant silverlight .csproj file VS crashes with the following error message: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: devenv.exe Application Version: 9.0.30729.1 Application Timestamp: 488f2b50 Fault Module Name: StackHash_20af Fault Module Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Fault Module Timestamp: 4791a7a6 Exception Code: c0000374 Exception Offset: 000b015d This also happens if I try to create a new silverlight project from scratch. • Querying and ordering results of a database in grails using transient fields

  I'm trying to display paged data out of a grails domain object. For example: I have a domain object Employee with the properties firstName and lastName which are transient, and when invoking their setter/getter methods they encrypt/decrypt the data. The data is saved in the database in encrypted binary format, thus not sortable by those fields. And yet again, not sortable by transient ones either, as noted in: http://www.grails.org/GSP+Tag+-+sortableColumn .   I just finished reinstalling the "All-In-One Eclipse PDT" from zend.com. It's unable to debug even the simplest "Hello World" PHP script. How can such a major open-source app be released in such a bad shape? What am I doing wrong?   With the following bit of code: $builder = ORM::factory('branch')->where('institution_id', $this->institution->id)->orderby('name'); I need to first execute: $count = $builder->count_all(); Then I need to execute: $rs = $builder->find_all($limit, $offset); However, it appears that when I execute the first query the stored query parameters are cleared so that a fresh query can be executed. Is there a way to avoid having the parameters cleared or at least copy them easily without having to reach directly into the Database driver object that stores the query parameters and copy them out? We are using Kohana 2.3.4 and upgrading is not an option.

  I am creating an extension where I need to insert a link into the gmail window. I am able to create a simple extension button in the top of the window and execute code that does replaces all the links. Now, I want to do add links in the contenteditable section as I type. It seems like there should be a simple way to replace text with a link in the document object model. If this is not true I need to do three things. Insert text from the current caret position Capture the caret position. Set the caret position by its offset. I have tried using window.getSelection within the gmail context(that is a body element that is set to contenteditable and embedded inside an iframe in the gmail tab) to get the current range and position. The selection is always empty and contains no ranges regardless of whether text is selected or not.

  Hi everyone, I have just updated my cakephp library to latest version 1.3.1. Before this I was running v1.3.0 with no errors. After running the application I am given this error message. unserialize() [function.unserialize]: Error at offset 0 of 2574 bytes [CORE\cake\libs\cache\file.php, line 176] I updated the libraries simply by replacing the existing cake files with the new ones downloaded from the net. Is it the correct way of updating applications. I did'nt made any customizations to the core library of cakePHP. What is the problem ? Please help. Thanks

• Can Eclipse parse and use emacs-style meta information in source code?

  In emacs, it is possible to start a file off with a line this: /* -*- mode: java; c-basic-offset: 4; indent-tabs-mode: nil -*- */ This instructs emacs to use 4 spaces for indentation. I like the idea of storing this coding style meta-information directly and explicitly in the source code. Are there any options for doing this in other IDEs? Does eclipse in particular have the ability to configure itself from a line in the emacs format or something equivalent?

  Is there a way, either in code or with JVM arguments, to override the current time, as presented via System.currentTimeMillis, other than manually changing the system clock on the host machine? A little background: We have a system that runs a number of accounting jobs that revolve much of their logic around the current date (ie 1st of the month, 1st of the year, etc) Unfortunately, a lot of the legacy code calls functions such as new Date() or Calendar.getInstance(), both of which eventually call down to System.currentTimeMillis. For testing purposes, right now, we are stuck with manually updating the system clock to manipulate what time and date the code thinks that the test is being run. So my question is: Is there a way to override what is returned by System.currentTimeMillis? For example, to tell the JVM to automatically add or subtract some offset before returning from that method? Thanks in advance!

• Small gaps in section headers with custom headers - iPhone / Objective-C

  Hi there! Since I wanted to use the standard section header with a different font size, I just made custom section headers by using an UIImageView with the standard section header as an image. It looks fine at first, but when I scroll the table, there are small gaps below and above the section headers: Since I am not allowed to post images or more than one hyperlink yet, I will have to provide you with one link to those images: Click me! Picture: How it looks like without touching anything Picture: Dragging the table down Picture: Dragging/Scrolling the table up So as you can hopefully see, there is a small empty gap under (2nd pic) and above (3rd pic) the section header. Another thing to mention is, that the standard behaviour of non-custom section headers is, that they don't become transparent when I drag the table down (making the table offset < 0.0). Is there a way to make custom section headers mimic the same behaviour without those annoying gaps? Greetings, Zhar

• SoundPool.load() and FileDescriptor from file

  I tried using the load function of the SoundPool that takes a FileDescriptor, because I wanted to be able to set the offset and length. The File is not stored in the Ressources but a file on the storage card. Even though neither the load nor the play function of the SoundPool throw any Exception or print anything to the console, the sound is not played. Using the same code, but use the file path string in the SoundPool constructor works perfectly. This is how I have tried the loading (start equals 0 and length is the length of the file in miliseconds): FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(new File(mFile)); mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(fileIS.getFD(), start, length, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); If I would use this, it works: mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(mFile, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); Any ideas anyone? • XNA Music mixing real-time

  I've created a "format" to store segments of music (prelude part, repeated part, ending part) and time information for these segments (offset, scored length) so I can mix it up in real-time as if it were one piece of music, while repeating the repeated part (optionally) indefinitely. This way, the segments can store decay where the next segment is played, while the previous one is finished. (I've created a player for this in Java, and used the Clip class.) I wanted this format, so I can provide a finite length music (for a jukebox feature), while I play infinite length music in-games. However, when I wanted to code a class in XNA that manages this "format" I've noticed, that there is no obvious way to play "Songs" simultaneously/overlapped. How can I do this/what is the best practice, not leaving the XNA framework? (I don't want to create infinite play-lists.)

  Hi, I'm working on a project which is using Selenium and I'd like to try to get the full web page height cross-browser and cross-platform. IE8 is being stubborn as always, is there anybody who has an idea of how to solve this? The problem: When you scroll down a page for e.g. 500px and you keep doing this until the bottom of the page, the last scroll will be less than 500px. I need to know how much this last scroll was. Two ways of solving: 1) Find the offset that has been scrolled each time (works everywhere except IE8) 2) Find the total height of the webpage I know JQuery's height() function does this but I can't use this function from Selenium RC. If you know a way of calling JQuery functions through Selenium or any other solution, please tell! Cheers, Henry

• Trouble getting height of OverlayItem Drawable

  Hey- I'm having some trouble getting a hold of the drawable a certain OverlayItem is using so I can calculate the height of it and properly offset the note that shows onTap. Here is my code to try to get that drawable: Drawable marker = item.getMarker(android.R.attr.state_focused); if (marker != null) int markerHeight = marker.getIntrinsicHeight(); marker ends up null. I'm using a drawable XML file with a selector for the different states of the OverlayItem's drawable. In it I'm specifying a drawable for the null state, state_focused, and state_pressed. • UITableView scrolling for very large cells

  I have UITableView with very large cells with lots of content (more than one screen height). I need to scroll UITableView to a certain position within those cells. I've found method scrollToRowAtIndexPath:atScrollPosition:animated: which works just fine if you got small cells (less than one screen), then you can just command UITableView to scroll, so the needed cell appears at the top of the screen (for example). But this doesn't help at all when you got very large cells. I need UITableView to scroll to a certain position within my large cell, something like scrollToRowAtIndexPath but what accepts pixel offset in addition to cell number. Someone got any ideas? Or maybe ready solution... Would appreciate any help.

So for example if you had a byte array with 2 bytes: 231 and 109 (11100111 01101101), and did BitInsert(byteArray,4,00) it would insert two bits at bit offset 4 making 11100001 11011011 01000000 (225,219,24). It would be ok even the method only allowed 1 bit insertions e.g. BitInsert(byteArray,4,true) or BitInsert(byteArray,4,false). I have one method of doing it, but it has to walk the stream with a bitmask bit by bit, so I'm wondering if there's a simpler approach... Answers in assembly or a C derivative would be appreciated.

Something like this: conditions[:offset] = (options[:page].to_i - 1) * PAGE_SIZE unless options[:page].blank? conditions[:limit] = options[:limit] ||= PAGE_SIZE scope = Promo.enabled.active results = scope.all conditions I'd like to add a computed column to the query (at the point when I'm now calling scope.all). Something like this: (ACOS(least(1,COS(0.71106459055501)*COS(-1.2915436464758)*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lat))*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lng))+ COS(0.71106459055501)*SIN(-1.2915436464758)*COS(RADIANS(addresses.lat))*SIN(RADIANS(addresses.lng))+ SIN(0.71106459055501)*SIN(RADIANS(addresses.lat))))*3963.19) as accurate_distance Is there a way to do that without just using find_by_sql and rewriting the whole existing query? • CALayer: callback when animation ends?

  Hi All, I have been running into some issues with animating multiple CALayers at the same time, and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. My app contains an array of CALayer. The position of each layer is set to (previousLayer.position.y + previousLayer.bounds.height), which basically lays them out similar to a table. I then have a method that, every-time it is called, adds a new layer to the stack and sets its Y position is set to 0. The Y positions of all other layers in the array are then offset by the height of the new layer (essentially pushing all old layers down). What I am having problems with is preventing the adding of new layers until the previous animation has completed. Is there a way to tell when an implicit animation has finished? Or alternatively, if I use CABasicAnimation and animationDidFinish, is there a way to tell which object finished animating when animationDidFinish is called?

• Persisting a single UISearchBar instance across 4 separate UITableViews

  Hi fellas, I'm in the midst of an iPhone app that needs to have 4 separate UITableView objects sharing access to one UISearchBar in the first section and first row of the aforementioned UITableView objects. I have tried to offset the UITableView's frame by 44 pixels, then adding the search bar as a subview of my UIViewController's view. That works, but I cannot use the table index to scroll up to the search bar, since it is not a cell in the tableview. I need to have the search bar in the table view itself. My goal is to have the same UISearchBar in the first section of multiple tableviews. Thanks so much.
