• Announcing Spacewalk Support for Oracle Linux Basic and Premier Customers

  Over the years, customers migrating to Oracle Linux have asked for options to provide a transitional solution for their existing system management tools (such as Red Hat Satellite Server) while evaluating and planning migrations to Oracle's Enterprise Manager, which is offered at no additional charge with Oracle Linux Support Subscriptions.  Based on this request, we are pleased to announce support for the open-source community project, Spacewalk, which is the basis for both Red Hat Satellite Server and SUSE Manager.  Effective today, customers with Oracle Linux Basic and Premier Support subscriptions have access to a fully supported Spacewalk build which can be setup to easily manage Oracle Linux systems.   Spacewalk support for Oracle Linux requires Oracle Linux 6, x86_64 for the server and provides support for Oracle Linux 5 and Oracle Linux 6 (x86, x86_64) clients.  This solution requires Oracle Database 11g Release 2 as the  supported database repository for Spacewalk with Oracle Linux.  Within the next several weeks, a limited use license for the Oracle Database will be included with this offer.  Until this is complete, customers may use an existing Oracle database license or they may begin by downloading a 30-day trial license from eDelivery.  Customers with Oracle Linux Basic and Premier subscriptions will automatically have access to the channel hosting the supported build.  Please review the release notes for further instructions. Oracle Enterprise Manager is still the recommended enterprise solution for managing Oracle Linux systems and we want to provide the easiest transition path for our customers.  We are excited to offer this solution to our Oracle Linux customers while they plan and implement their migration to Oracle Enterprise Manager.

• MySQL remote access not working - Port Close?

  I am not able to get a remote connection established to MySQL. From my pc I am able to telnet to 3306 on the existing server, but when I try the same with the new server it hangs for few minutes then returns # mysql -utest3 -h [server ip] -p Enter password: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '[server ip]' (110) Here is some output from the server. # nmap -sT -O localhost -p 3306 ... • mysql is not connecting after data directory change

  I've changed data directory in /etc/my.cnf. datadir=/data/mysql socket=/data/mysql/mysql.sock I also moved mysql folder from /var/lib/mysql/ to /data/mysql Now when i connect to mysql i get following error: [root@youradstats-copy mysql]# mysql ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) also when i see /var/logs/msqld.log i get following messages in that: InnoDB: Setting log file /data/mysql/ib_logfile0 size to 512 MB InnoDB: Database physically writes the file full: wait...   Good news for our Telco ISV partners who want to leverage virtualization technologies such as SDN and NFV: We just announced that Solaris 11.2 will integrate OpenDaylight SDN, and that Oracle will join the OpenDaylight project as a Silver member. The integration will allow customers to improve service quality and take advantage of apps-to-disk SLAs through compatibility with a wide range of SDN devices, applications and services. It will also allow them to use a common and open SDN platform with OpenStack to manage Oracle Solaris-based clouds. The OpenDaylight Project is a community-led and industry-supported open source platform to advance SDN and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).

• Completely reset mysql server authentication

  I was trying to change the password for a user on a mysql server, and i appear to have locked myself out. I have access to the root user, but root doesn't have the privileges to access any databses, including the 'mysql' database where all the config is kept. Is there any way i can 'reset' the root user? (i have full file-system access) ... or do i just need to reinstall (can i salvage my data?) Thanks. -Ped

  I'm trying to get MySQL to function as a backend for authenticating users on CentOS 6.3. So far I have successfully installed and configured libnss-mysql. I can test this by doing: # groups testuser testuser : sftp Testuser is a member of the sftp group in fact, all MySQL based useraccounts will be hardcoded to it. The sftp group is chrooted and forced to use internal-sftp so they cannot do anything but access their home directory. Then I configured pam-mysql and PAM to allow mysql logins. This also works.. When SELinux is not enforcing. When I do setenforce 1 users can no longer login. Error: Permission denied, please try again.
