  • How to specify blob type in MS Access?

    - by Firat
    How to specify blob type in MS Access? I have office 2007 installed. I am using jdbc, but this should not matter for the SQL query I am passing. Tried to pass a length to it, or FILE type, did not help. CREATE TABLE mytable ( [integer] INTEGER not null, [string] VARCHAR (255), [datetime] DATETIME, [boolean] BIT, [char] CHAR, [short] SHORT, [double] DOUBLE, [float] FLOAT, [long] LONG, [blob] BLOB, // does not work Primary Key ([integer]) )

  • A simple question about type coercion in C++

    - by David
    Given a function prototype, and a type definition: int my_function(unsigned short x); typedef unsigned short blatherskite; Is the following situation defined by standard: int main(int argc, char** argv) { int result; blatherskite b; b=3; result = my_function(b); } Do I get type coercion predictably via the function prototype?

  • Why is native libmpg123 taking so long on android with libgdx?

    - by cmbryan
    I'm trying to use the gdx-audio extensions, but am having trouble decoding mp3s. It works, but very slowly!! A 10-second file is taking 6.57 seconds to decode :( Here is the method: public void decode() { Mpg123Decoder decoder = new Mpg123Decoder(externalFile); short[] sampleArray = new short[1024]; // read until we reach the end of the file while (decoder.readSamples(sampleArray, 0, sampleArray.length) > 0) {} } Can anyone tell me why this is taking so long?

  • Windows 7 Missing Shortnames

    - by Aaron Bush
    I noticed that if you get a Scripting.File object from certain windows files (Example: any wav in C:\Windows\Media) the Scripting.File.ShortPath property shows the long path. Curious I dropped to the command prompt and tried Dir /A /X and sure enough the short paths were missing from all the files in that directory. Anyone know: A.) What that's all about? B.) How to get the short path of a file that doesn't seem to have one?

  • Is the Google Annotations Gallery useful in production code?

    - by cafe
    I could actually see a use for the Google Annotations Gallery in real code: Stumble across code that somehow works beyond all reason? Life's short. Mark it with @Magic and move on: @Magic public static int negate(int n) { return new Byte((byte) 0xFF).hashCode() / (int) (short) '\uFFFF' * ~0 * Character.digit ('0', 0) * n * (Integer.MAX_VALUE * 2 + 1) / (Byte.MIN_VALUE >> 7) * (~1 | 1); } This is a serious question. Could this be used in an actual code review?

  • C++ beginner question regarding chars

    - by Samwhoo
    I'm just messing around with some C++ at the moment trying to make a simple tic-tac-toe game and I'm running into a bit of a problem. This is my code: #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Square { public: char getState() const; void setState(char); Square(); ~Square(); private: char * pState; }; class Board { public: Board(); ~Board(); void printBoard() const; Square getSquare(short x, short y) const; private: Square board[3][3]; }; int main() { Board board; board.getSquare(1,2).setState('1'); board.printBoard(); return 0; } Square::Square() { pState = new char; *pState = ' '; } Square::~Square() { delete pState; } char Square::getState() const { return *pState; } void Square::setState(char set) { *pState = set; } Board::~Board() { } Board::Board() { } void Board::printBoard() const { for (int x = 0; x < 3; x++) { cout << "|"; for (int y = 0; y < 3; y++) { cout << board[x][y].getState(); } cout << "|" << endl; } } Square Board::getSquare(short x, short y) const { return board[x][y]; } Forgive me if there are blatantly obvious problems with it or it's stupidly written, this is my first program in C++ :p However, the problem is that when I try and set the square 1,2 to the char '1', it doesn't print out as a 1, it prints out as some strange character I didn't recognise. Can anyone tell me why? :) Thanks in advance.

  • Why can't your switch statement data type be long Java?

    - by Fostah
    Here's an excerpt from Sun's Java tutorials: A switch works with the byte, short, char, and int primitive data types. It also works with enumerated types (discussed in Classes and Inheritance) and a few special classes that "wrap" certain primitive types: Character, Byte, Short, and Integer (discussed in Simple Data Objects ). There must be a good reason why the long primitive data type is not allowed. Anyone know what it is?

  • Clojure example of the day?

    Is there a Clojure example of the day kind of service, like a blog, or Twitter account I can follow? Would be really nice to have a short example every day to enhance Clojure skills and to get inspired to delve deeper into the language. Clojure really lends itself well for short but powerful code.

  • XNA 4.0 draw a cube with DrawUserIndexedPrimitives method [on hold]

    - by Leggy7
    EDIT Since I read what Mark H suggested (thanks a lot, I found it very useful) I think my question can become clearer structured this way: Using XNA 4.0, I'm trying to draw a cube. Im using this method: GraphicsDevice.DrawUserIndexedPrimitives<VertexPositionColor>( PrimitiveType.LineList, primitiveList, 0, // vertex buffer offset to add to each element of the index buffer 8, // number of vertices in pointList lineListIndices, // the index buffer 0, // first index element to read 7 // number of primitives to draw ); I got the code sample from this page which simply draw a serie of triangles. I want to modify this code in order to draw a cube. I was able to slitghly move the camera so I can have the perception of solidity, I set the vertex array to contain the 8 points defining a cube. But I can't fully understand how many primitives I have to draw (last parameter) for each of PrimitiveType. So, I wasn't able to draw the cube (just some of the edges in a non-defined order). More in detail: to build the vertex index list, the sample used // Initialize an array of indices of type short. lineListIndices = new short[(points * 2) - 2]; // Populate the array with references to indices in the vertex buffer for (int i = 0; i < points - 1; i++) { lineListIndices[i * 2] = (short)(i); lineListIndices[(i * 2) + 1] = (short)(i + 1); } I'm ashamed to say I cannot do the same in the case of a cube. what has to be the size of the lineListIndices? how should I populate it? In which order? And how do these things change when I use a different PrimitiveType? In the code sample there are also another couple of calls which I cannot fully understand, which are: // Initialize the vertex buffer, allocating memory for each vertex. vertexBuffer = new VertexBuffer(graphics.GraphicsDevice, vertexDeclaration, points, BufferUsage.None); // Set the vertex buffer data to the array of vertices. vertexBuffer.SetData<VertexPositionColor>(pointList); and vertexDeclaration = new VertexDeclaration(new VertexElement[] { new VertexElement(0, VertexElementFormat.Vector3, VertexElementUsage.Position, 0), new VertexElement(12, VertexElementFormat.Color, VertexElementUsage.Color, 0) } ); that is, for VertexBuffer and VertexDeclaration I could not find and significant (monkey-like) guide. I reported them too because I think they could be involded in understanding things. I think I also have to understand something related to the order the vertexes are stored in the array. But actually I have no clue of what I should learn to have this function drawing a cube. So, if anybody could point me to the right direction, it wil be appreciated. Hope to have made myself clear this time

  • Bypass BIOS password set by faulty Toshiba firmware on Satellite A55 laptop?

    - by Brian
    How can the CMOS be cleared on the Toshiba Satellite A55-S1065? I have this 7 year old laptop that has been crippled by a glitch in its BIOS: 'A "Password =" prompt may be displayed when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. The computer will be unusable until this problem is resolved. [..] The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. [..] Toshiba will cover the cost of this repair under warranty until Dec 31, 2010.' -Toshiba As they stated, this machine is "unusable." The escape key does not bypass the prompt (nor does any other key), thus no operating system can be booted and no firmware updates can be installed. After doing some research, I found solutions that have been suggested for various Toshiba Satellite models afflicted by this glitch: "Make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem resolved." -Toshiba (same link). Even prior to the expiration of Toshiba's support ("repair under warranty until Dec 31, 2010"), there have been reports that this solution is prohibitively expensive, labor charges accruing even when the laptop is still under warranty, and other reports that are generally discouraging: "They were unable to fix it and the guy who worked on it said he couldn’t find the jumpers on the motherboard to clear the BIOS. I paid $39 for my troubles and still have the password problem." - Steve. Since the costs of the repairs can now exceed the value of the hardware, it would seem this is a DIY solution, or a non-solution (i.e. the hardware is trash). Build a Toshiba parallel loopback by stripping and soldering the wires on a DB25 plug to connect connect these pins: 1-5-10, 2-11, 3-17, 4-12, 6-16, 7-13, 8-14, 9-15, 18-25. -CGSecurity. According to a list of supported models on pwcrack, this will likely not work for my Satellite A55-1065 (as well as many other models of similar age). -pwcrack Disconnect the laptop battery for an extended period of time. Doesn't work, laptop sat in a closet for several years without the battery connected and I forgot about the whole thing for awhile. The poor thing. Clear CMOS by setting the proper jumper setting or by removing the CMOS (RTC) battery, or by short circuiting a (hidden?) jumper that looks like a pair of solder marks -various sources for various Satellite models: Satellite A105: "you will see C88 clearly labeled right next the jack that the wireless card plugs into. There are two little solder squares (approx 1/16") at this location" -kerneltrap Satellite 1800: "Underneath the RAM there is black sticker, peel off the black sticker and you will reveal two little solder marks which are actually 'jumpers'. Very carefully hold a flat-head screwdriver touching both points and power on the unit briefly, effectively 'shorting' this circuit." -shadowfax2020 Satellite L300: "Short the B500 solder pads on the system board." -Lester Escobar Satellite A215: "Short the B500 solder pads on the system board." -fixya Clearing the CMOS could resolve the issue, but I cannot locate a jumper or a battery on this board. Nothing that looks remotely like a battery can be removed (everything is soldered). I have looked closely at the area around the memory and do not see any obvious solder pads that could be a secret jumper. Here are pictures (click for full resolution) : Where is the jumper (or solder pads) to short circuit and wipe the CMOS on this board? Possibly related questions: Remove Toshiba laptop BIOS password? • Make isolinux 4.0.3 chainload itself in VMWare

  • Programmatically examine DLL contents

    - by Peter Hansen
    Is it possible programmatically to discover the exported names (globals, entry points, whatever) in a Windows DLL file without implementing a parser for the binary executable file format itself? I know there are tools to do this (though no open source ones I've found), but I'm curious whether there is a Windows API to accomplish the same thing or whether such tools operate merely by examining the binary file directly. I suspect there is an API for .NET libraries: if that's the case then is there a similar one for native DLLs? Edit: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1128150 is basically an exact duplicate. The answer there is roughly "there is no API, but you can hack it using LoadLibraryEx() and navigating a few resulting data structures". Edit: I was able to use the accepted answer at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1128150 to create a quick DLL dumper with Python and ctypes that works.

  • WebClient on WP7 - Throw "A request with this method cannot have a request body"

    - by Peter Hansen
    If I execute this code in a Consoleapp it works fine: string uriString = "http://url.com/api/v1.0/d/" + Username + "/some?amount=3&offset=0"; WebClient wc = new WebClient(); wc.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json"; wc.Headers["Authorization"] = AuthString.Replace("\\", ""); string responseArrayKvitteringer = wc.DownloadString(uriString); Console.WriteLine(responseArrayKvitteringer); But if I move the code to my WP7 project like this: string uriString = "http://url.com/api/v1.0/d/" + Username + "/some?amount=3&offset=0"; WebClient wc = new WebClient(); wc.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json"; wc.Headers["Authorization"] = AuthString.Replace("\\", ""); wc.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted); wc.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri(uriString)); void wc_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Result); } I got the exception: A request with this method cannot have a request body. Why? The solution is to remove the Content-type: string uriString = "http://url.com/api/v1.0/d/" + Username + "/some?amount=3&offset=0"; WebClient wc = new WebClient(); //wc.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json"; wc.Headers["Authorization"] = AuthString.Replace("\\", ""); wc.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted); wc.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri(uriString)); void wc_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Result); }

  • How can I discover zeroconf (Bonjour) services on Android? I'm having trouble with jmDNS.

    - by Peter Kirn
    I'm working with a Droid / Android 2.0.1 and encountering an issue apparently many people have: I'm unable to discover services using the one pure-Java zeroconf library I know of, jmDNS. (Apple's Bonjour, while it works on Linux and Windows Java, I believe would be harder to port to Android because of reliance on native code.) I can create services, but not discover them. I'm trying to make sense of what's going on. There is an ongoing issue report here; related to multicast and IPv6, but seems to be throwing users of jmDNS, too: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2323 Any idea why this person might be having success? See comment 22 in the bug report. (I'm new to SO, so can't post more than one URL.) I have tested their code, but without any luck. Has anyone successfully accomplished zeroconf service discovery on Android, using jmDNS or another library? Is it possible my discovery issue is related to the IPv6 multicast problem?

  • Python: how do I install SciPy on 64 bit Windows?

    - by Peter Mortensen
    How do I install SciPy on my system? Update 1: for the NumPy part (that SciPy depends on) there is actually an installer for 64 bit Windows: numpy-1.3.0.win-amd64-py2.6.msi (is direct download URL, 2310144 bytes). Running the SciPy superpack installer results in this message in a dialog box: "Cannot install. Python version 2.6 required, which was not found in the registry." I already have Python 2.6.2 installed (and a working Django installation in it), but I don't know about any Registry story. The registry entries seems to already exist: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6\Help] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6\Help\Main Python Documentation] @="D:\\Python262\\Doc\\python262.chm" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6\InstallPath] @="D:\\Python262\\" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6\InstallPath\InstallGroup] @="Python 2.6" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6\Modules] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Python\PythonCore\2.6\PythonPath] @="D:\\Python262\\Lib;D:\\Python262\\DLLs;D:\\Python262\\Lib\\lib-tk" What I have done so far: Step 1 Downloaded the NumPy superpack installer numpy-1.3.0rc2-win32-superpack-python2.6.exe (direct download URL, 4782592 bytes). Running this installer resulted in the same message, "Cannot install. Python version 2.6 required, which was not found in the registry.". Update: there is actually an installer for NumPy that works - see beginning of the question. Step 2 Tried to install NumPy in another way. Downloaded the zip package numpy-1.3.0rc2.zip (direct download URL, 2404011 bytes), extracted the zip file in a normal way to a temporary directory, D:\temp7\numpy-1.3.0rc2 (where setup.py and README.txt is). I then opened a command line window and: d: cd D:\temp7\numpy-1.3.0rc2 setup.py install This ran for a long time and also included use of cl.exe (part of Visual Studio). Here is a nearly 5000 lines long transcript (230 KB). This seemed to work. I can now do this in Python: import numpy as np np.random.random(10) with this result: array([ 0.35667511, 0.56099423, 0.38423629, 0.09733172, 0.81560421, 0.18813222, 0.10566666, 0.84968066, 0.79472597, 0.30997724]) Step 3 Downloaded the SciPy superpack installer, scipy-0.7.1rc3- win32-superpack-python2.6.exe (direct download URL, 45597175 bytes). Running this installer resulted in the message listed in the beginning Step 4 Tried to install SciPy in another way. Downloaded the zip package scipy-0.7.1rc3.zip (direct download URL, 5506562 bytes), extracted the zip file in a normal way to a temporary directory, D:\temp7\scipy-0.7.1 (where setup.py and README.txt is). I then opened a command line window and: d: cd D:\temp7\scipy-0.7.1 setup.py install This did not achieve much - here is a transcript (about 95 lines). And it fails: >>> import scipy as sp2 Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named scipy Platform: Python 2.6.2 installed in directory D:\Python262, Windows XP 64 bit SP2, 8 GB RAM, Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition installed. • Linq-to-SQL: Ignore null parameters from WHERE clause
