  • [Flash 3d engine] Away3d and events (Basic questions)

    I'd like to play around 3d in Flash and I'm wondering how sophisticated objects can i load from 3D Max... cos as i read it's possible to load something from 3d Max I've read that popular 3d engine is Away3d (many tutorials), so if there is nothing better... i'd like to focus on it. I've forgot to mention that i'm not familar with Flash, but the best way to learn something is to do something interesting with it... :) Main question: Can I load object from 3ds and link parts of this object to some actions in Flash. Better example: I'd like to load a Car and when user click on car's door i'd like to show some informations, about those door, or pass this event outside for example to any other application in PHP, Java etc... and when he click on car mask i'd like to raise other event... Is it possible to create such interaction?? Thx in advance :)

  • Rails 2.3.5: flash[:notice] disappears after redirect_to call

    Here I've got two controller methods: def invite if request.post? begin email = AccountMailer.create_invite(@user,url) AccountMailer.deliver(email) flash[:notice] = "Invitation email sent to #{@user.email}" rescue #mail delivery failed flash[:error] = "Failed to deliver invitation" end redirect_to :action => :show, :id => @user.id end end and def show @title = "User #{@user.full_name}" end The problem is, when I send an invitation, and get redirected to ./show, I see no messages at all. If I change redirect_to to render, the message appears. Still, isn't it intended for flash to work in the immediate subsequent requests? BTW, I'm using Rails+Passenger setup, could it be so that redirected request goes to another application instance?

    Hi I'd like to set up a videoconferencing (1-1 initially) system using Flash as the client. I've tried some web searches but couldn't find much; any pointers on the following would be great: Does the standard browser Flash 10 plugin contain everything needed for P2P video conferencing, or is server support needed? Does anyone have any experience of opensource server videoconferencing products to be used with Flash on the browser side? E.g. would Asterisk work? Something like http://www.red5chat.com/ ? (ideally I'd like to be able to record videoconferences also). Any licencing issues? Many thanks

  • Any large USB sticks with integrated card readers?

    I have one of Kingston's DataTraveller Micro Reader USB sticks, a fantastic memory stick with an integrated micro SD and M2 card reader. However, I've gradually filled it to the brim and am looking for a larger stick. Unfortunately, Kingston don't make them any bigger than the 4GB one that I currently have and I was hoping to go to 16GB now that they've come down in price. Does anyone know if any manufacturers make something similar: a 16GB stick with a micro SD card reader integrated (I'm not bothered about the M2 reader).

    I am trying to get mongrel cluster working on my Ubuntu Server Karmic box in preparation to setup Capistrano. I've been trying to get the two to work all day and finally decided to completely remove Capistrano and see if I can just get Mongrel Cluster to work. I ran this to install mongrel cluster: gem install mongrel mongrel_cluster Everything installed fine, when I change into my app's directory... # mongrel_rails -bash: mongrel_rails: command not found I can run it from its install location: # /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/mongrel_rails Usage: mongrel_rails <command> [options] Available commands are: ...     Hey, I have a problem with moving a MovieClip to front in actionscript3. The main problem is, everytime I try to move it to front, using setChildIndex() I get an error message witch tells me, that the movieclip (that I named my_tofront) cannot converted to a flash.display.DisplayObject full error message: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert my_tofront$ to flash.display.DisplayObject. Why is this happening, and whats the solution for this problem?

  • Is Rails Metal (& Rack) a good way to implement a high traffic web service api?

    I am working on a very typical web application. The main component of the user experience is a widget that a site owner would install on their front page. Every time their front page loads, the widget talks to our server and displays some of the data that returns. So there are two components to this web application: the front end UI that the site owner uses to configure their widget the back end component that responds to the widget's web api call Previously we had all of this running in PHP. Now we are experimenting with Rails, which is fantastic for #1 (the front end UI). The question is how to do #2, the back serving of widget information, efficiently. Obviously this is much higher load than the front end, since it is called every time the front page loads on one of our clients' websites. I can see two obvious approaches: A. Parallel Stack: Set up a parallel stack that uses something other than rails (e.g. our old PHP-based approach) but accesses the same database as the front end B. Rails Metal: Use Rails Metal/Rack to bypass the Rails routing mechanism, but keep the api call responder within the Rails app My main question: Is Rails/Metal a reasonable approach for something like this? But also... Will the overhead of loading the Rails environment still be too heavy? Is there a way to get even closer to the metal with Rails, bypassing most of the environment? Will Rails/Metal performance approach the perf of a similar task on straight PHP (just looking for ballpark here)? And... Is there a 'C' option that would be much better than both A and B? That is, something before going to the lengths of C code compiled to binary and installed as an nginx or apache module? Thanks in advance for any insights.

    Hi- I'm attempting to get my first "hello world" rails example going using the rails' getting started guide on my OSX 10.6.3 box. When I go to execute the first rake db:create command (I'm using mysql) I get: simon@/Users/simon/source/rails/blog/config: rake db:create (in /Users/simon/source/rails/blog) Couldn't create database for {"reconnect"=>false, "encoding"=>"utf8", "username"=>"root", "adapter"=>"mysql", "database"=>"blog_development", "pool"=>5, "password"=>nil, "socket"=>"/opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock"}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) I found plenty of stackoverflow questions addressing this problem with the following advice: Verify that user and password are correct (I'm running w/ no password for root on my dev box) Verify that the socket is correct - I can cat the socket, so I assume it's correct Verify that the user can create a DB (As you can see root can connect and create a this DB no problem) simon@/Users/simon/source/rails/blog/config: mysql -uroot -hlocalhost Welcome to the MySQL monitor.     I am trying to learn rails3. I tried folowing the installation guide from guides.rails.info, I installed sudo gem install rake rack-test rack-mount erubis mail sudo gem install tzinfo builder i18n memcache-client sudo gem install text-format thor And rails 3 via sudo gem install rails --pre Now I create a new app rails abc And try rake db:create Which fails with Could not find gem 'sqlite3-ruby (>= 0, runtime)' in any of the sources. So I try installing sqlite3-ruby sudo gem install sqlite3-ruby Which fails with Could not create Makefile due to some reason, probably lack of necessary libraries and/or headers. Check the mkmf.log file for more details. You may need configuration options. So I install it via apt-get sudo aptitude install libsqlite3-ruby1.8. And still get same error on rake db:create.

  • H12 timeout error on Heroku

    Can anyone shed some light on what's causing this timeout error on Heroku (at 2012-07-08T08:58:33+00:00)? The docs say that it's because of some long running process. I've set config.assets.initialize_on_precompile = false in config/application.rb.   • Stack Overflow-like tag selector for Rails

    I want to use tags for a model in my Rails application, and I'd like to have the same kind of tag selection mechanism that Stack Overflow has when asking a question. I.e. I type in 'rails' and it drops down a list of tags that include 'rails', and I can go on to add more tags from there. Is there a plugin that can do this? I'm comfortable putting together the tag model and migrations myself, that isn't an issue. I just need something to handle the AJAX and javascript. I'm using prototype and Rails 2.3.
