• Pre-done SQLs to be converted to Rails' style moduls

  I am a Rails newbie and would really appreciate if someone converted these SQLs to complete modules for rails. I know its a lot to ask but I can't just use find_by_sql for all of them. Or can I? Also I got Database with it which (as you can see from the SQL-s) is not in Rails conventions. As a P.S.: 1)Things like STP_DATE={d '2010-03-30'}) are of course dates (in Slovenian date notation) and will be replaced with a variable (date), so that the user could choose date from and date to. 2) All of this data will be shown in the same page in the table,so maybe all in one module? Or many?; if this helps, maybe. So can someone help me? Its for my work and its my 1st project and I am a Rails newbie and the bosses are getting inpatient(they are getting quite loud actually) Thank you very very much!

  I have an application managing software tests and a class called TestResult: class TestResult < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :test_case, :class_name => "TestCase" end I'm right now migrating from Rails 1.x to 2.3.5. In Rails 1.x everything works fine. • Rails using plural table names even though I told it to use singular

  I tried to run rake test:profile and I got this error: ... Table 'mcif2.accounts' doesn't exist: DELETE FROM `accounts` I know accounts doesn't exist. It's called account. I know Rails uses plural table names by default but here's what my config/environment.rb looks like: # Load the rails application require File.expand_path('../application', __FILE__) # Initialize the rails application McifRails::Application.initialize! ActiveRecord::Base.pluralize_table_names = false And here's what db/schema.rb looks like: ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version => 0) do create_table "account", :force => true do |t| t.integer "customer_id", :limit => 8, :null => false t.string "account_number", :null => false t.integer "account_type_id", :limit => 8 t.date "open_date", :null => false So I don't understand why Rails still wants to call it accounts sometimes. • Prepared transactions with Postgres 8.4.3 on CentOS

  I have set 'max_prepared_transactions' to 20 in the local postgres.config and yet the transaction fails with the following error trace (but only on Linux). Since in Windows the same code works seamlessly I am wandering if this isn't an issue of permission. What would be the solution? • How do I make a script that properly introduces hstore in both 9.0 and 9.1?

  I am trying to introduce the hstore type into the database of a project I'm developing. But the problem is that I have a slightly newer version of the Postgres server installed on my development machine than there is on the production machine. While I can simply execute the CREATE EXTENSION command locally, this command is unavailable on the production machine. Is there a way to create a script that will install hstore both on 9.1 and 9.0?

  I have been trying to configure munin-plugins-rails to monitor the performance of our rails apps from Munin. The graphs appear, but no data is shown in the graphs. The log files show Error output from : 2013/06/27-15:39:06 [5540] Request-log-analyzer, by Willem van Bergen and $ 2013/06/27-15:39:06 [5540] Website: http://railsdoctors.com I have tried running Request-log-analyzer manually and pointing it at the production log file, and this reports as % for every item. There is data in the log file. I have tried changing the version of the gems installed, and also the type of the log file, but no luck. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

• Running a java program in linux terminal with -class path

  Hello I've been trying for an hour to run the following program with a the postgresql classpath class Test{ public static void main(String[] args){ try { Class.forName("org.postgresql.Driver"); } catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfe) { System.err.println("Couldn't find Postgresql driver class!"); } } } The program compiled fine with the javac command, but I'm having a hard time running it with the postgresql classpath. Why can I create a table with a self-contradictory definition? ID column is explicitly declared as NULLable, and it is implicitly not nullable, as a part of the PRIMARY KEY. Does it make sense? Edit: would it not be better if this self-contradictory CREATE TABLE just failed right there?

  Here is my problem: I export a database A_DB using "export" function of Phppgadmin. The dump file A_dump.sql includes both the database structure and data. Then I try to create another blank database B_DB, and import A_dump.sql into it. Every time I do that, the transaction failed with no error reported: SQL error: In statement: Is there some logs that I can find in phppgadmin that would allow me to investigate this problem? I have tried searching for an hour, but still not find anything.

• Coalesce and Case-When with To_Date not working as expected (Postgres bug?)

  I'm using Postgres 9.1. The following query does not work as expected. Coalesce should return the first non-null value. However, this query returns null (1?) instead of the date (2). select COALESCE( TO_DATE('','yyyymmdd'), --(1) TO_DATE('20130201','yyyymmdd') --(2) ); --(1) this evaluates independently to null --(2) this evaluates independently to the date, and therefore is the first non-null value What am I doing wrong? Any workaround? Edit: This may have nothing to do with Coalesce at all. I tried some experiments with Case When constructs; it turns out, Postgres has this big ugly bug where it treats TO_DATE('','yyyymmdd') as not null, even though selecting it returns null.

  I want to retrieve all ids within a certain timespan. The timestamps however, are stored in a different table: Table A has column my_id Table B has columns my_id, timestamp I would want something like SELECT id, time FROM (SELECT my_id AS id FROM A) q1, (SELECT timestamp AS time FROM B WHERE my_id = id) q2 ; But how can I get the value of id within a different subquery? Is there an elegant solution for this problem?

  I have a named scopes like so... named_scope :gender, lambda { |gender| { :joins => {:survey_session => :profile }, :conditions => { :survey_sessions => { :profiles => { :gender => gender } } } } } and when I call it everything works fine. I also have this average method I call... Answer.average(:rating, :include => {:survey_session => :profile}, :group => "profiles.career") which also works fine if I call it like that. However if I were to call it like so... Answer.gender('m').average(:rating, :include => {:survey_session => :profile}, :group => "profiles.career") I get... ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: PGError: ERROR: table name "profiles" specified more than once : SELECT avg("answers".rating) AS avg_rating, profiles.career AS profiles_career FROM "answers" LEFT OUTER JOIN "survey_sessions" survey_sessions_answers ON "survey_sessions_answers".id = "answers".survey_session_id LEFT OUTER JOIN "profiles" ON "profiles".id = "survey_sessions_answers".profile_id INNER JOIN "survey_sessions" ON "survey_sessions".id = "answers".survey_session_id INNER JOIN "profiles" ON "profiles".id = "survey_sessions".profile_id WHERE ("profiles"."gender" = E'm') GROUP BY profiles.career Which is a little hard to read but says I'm including the table profiles twice. If I were to just remove the include from average it works but it isn't really practical because average is actually being called inside a method which gets passed the scoped. So there is some times gender or average might get called with out each other and if either was missing the profile include it wouldn't work. So either I need to know how to fix this apparent bug in Rails or figure out a way to know what scopes were applied to a ActiveRecord::NamedScope::Scope object so that I could check to see if they have been applied and if not add the include for average.

• Weird Rails database errors

  I've had some trouble getting my Rails app to connect to PostgreSQL so I decided to just say screw it and use SQLite for now. (I'm using the tutorial here: http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html) I started a BRAND NEW, fresh Rails app from this tutorial. When I visit my app in the browser after deleting public/index.html, I get this the first time: Please install the pg adapter: `gem install activerecord-pg-adapter` (no such file to load -- active_record/connection_adapters/pg_adapter) That's odd to me because I'm not mentioning PostgreSQL anywhere. Here's my databases.yml: # SQLite version 3.x # gem install sqlite3-ruby (not necessary on OS X Leopard) development: adapter: sqlite3 database: db/development.sqlite3 pool: 5 timeout: 5000 # Warning: The database defined as "test" will be erased and # re-generated from your development database when you run "rake". # Do not set this db to the same as development or production. test: adapter: sqlite3 database: db/test.sqlite3 pool: 5 timeout: 5000 production: adapter: sqlite3 database: db/production.sqlite3 pool: 5 timeout: 5000 To make things more confusing, I only get that "pg adapter" error on the first load. For every subsequent page request, I get this error: ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished So even though I removed all mention of PostgreSQL, I'm still getting errors. What could be going on?

  I just upgraded to snow leopard. • Rails3 and Paperclip

  Hi, I have migrated my application from rails 2.3 to rails3 and i have a problem with paperclip. I saw there was a branch for rails3 on paperclip git. So I added "gem 'paperclip', :git = 'git://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip.git', :branch = 'rails3'" into the Gemfile and launch the command bundle install. Once paperclip installed, the upload worked fine but not the styles. I saw a hack to fix it. # in lib/paperclip/attachment.rb at line 293 def callback which #:nodoc: # replace this line... # instance.run_callbacks(which, @queued_for_write){|result,obj| result == false } # with this: instance.run_callbacks(which, @queued_for_write) end The styles are ok after that, but i'm not able to active the processor. • Memcached broken pipe in rails

  I seem to run into some random broken pipe errors if I try to access memcached a specific way. When I try to access memcached via Rails.cache, the first one or two reads/writes will result in a "MemCacheError (Broken pipe): Broken pipe" and return nil. But if I access memcached through a new object (ActiveSupport::Cache::MemCacheStore.new) I don't get the broken pipe error at all. I've tried upgrading to memcached 1.4.4 (was previously using 1.2.2) and I still got the error. I'm using rails 2.3.5. I would prefer to access memcached through Rails.cache because I takes namespaces into account. Any ideas?

• Start or ensure that Delayed Job runs when an application/server restarts.

  Hi there, We have to use delayed_job (or some other background-job processor) to run jobs in the background, but we're not allowed to change the boot scripts/boot-levels on the server. This means that the daemon is not guaranteed to remain available if the provider restarts the server (since the daemon would have been started by a capistrano recipe that is only run once per deployment). Currently, the best way I can think of to ensure the delayed_job daemon is always running, is to add an initializer to our Rails application that checks if the daemon is running. If it's not running, then the initializer starts the daemon, otherwise, it just leaves it be. The question, therefore, is how do we detect that the Delayed_Job daemon is running from inside a script? (We should be able to start up a daemon fairly easily, bit I don't know how to detect if one is already active). Anyone have any ideas?   So I am trying to get the cancan gem to work with my rails 3 app and I've hit a problem. I tried to copy the code that Ryan Bates (the creator of the gem) used in his screen cast, but I get an error saying that roles_mask is not a method. I figure that the _mask method was removed from Ruby/Rails at some point, and I'm now wondering what is the replacement.
