  • Is there a way to specify a default property value in Spring XML?

    We are using a PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer to use java properties in our Spring configuration (details here) eg: <foo name="port"> <value>${my.server.port}</value> </foo> We would like to add an additional property, but have a distributed system where existing instances could all use a default value. Is there a way to avoid updating all of our properties files, by indicating a default value in the Spring config for when there isn't an overriding property value defined?

    When using the Spring 3.0 capability to annotate the a scheduled task, I would like to set the fixedDelay as parameter from my configuration file, instead of hard-wiring it into my task class, like currently... @Scheduled(fixedDelay=5000) public void readLog() { ... } Unfortunately it seems that with the means of the Spring Expression Language (EL) @Value returns a String object which in turn is not able to be auto-boxed to a long value as required by the fixedDelay parameter.   • IIS7 - Lock Violation error, HTTP handlers, modules, and the <clear /> element

    I have an ASP.NET site that uses its own set of HTTP handlers and does not need any modules. So, in IIS6, all I had to do was this in my web.config: <httpModules> <clear /> </httpModules> However, if I try to do the same in the system.webServer area for IIS7, I get a 500 error when I try to view the site, and in IIS manager when I try to view the handler mappings, I get a popup box with the message: There was an error while performing this operation Details: Filename: \?\C:\Sites\TheWebSiteGoesHere\web.config Line number: 39 Error: Lock violation Line 39 is where the <clear /> element is. Some googling led me to a solution involving running this command: %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe unlock config -section:system.webServer/modules ...but that did not solve the problem.

    Recently a 'consultant' came in to talk to bean counters at my place of employment, with regards to being more efficient with our IT infrastructure. They suggested to be more efficient we should only load the Apache modules that are required on our web servers. (This is just 1 of 1Ks of suggestions). The Bean Counters are very excited, and prepared for me to spend the time to investigate this avenue of cost cutting. I don't mind this mundane exercise, I see it as a learning experience!   • Prevent Python from caching the imported modules

    While developing a largeish project (split in several files and folders) in Python with IPython, I run into the trouble of cached imported modules. The problem is that instructions import module only reads the module once, even if that module has changed! So each time I change something in my package, I have to quit and restart IPython. Painful. Is there any way to properly force reloading some modules? Or, better, to somehow prevent Python from caching them? I tried several approaches, but none works. In particular I run into really, really weird bugs, like some modules or variables mysteriously becoming equal to None... The only sensible resource I found is Reloading Python modules, from pyunit, but I have not checked it. I would like something like that. A good alternative would be for IPython to restart, or restart the Python interpreter somehow. So, if you develop in Python, what solution have you found to this problem?

  • How do I get spring to inject my EntityManager?

    I'm following the guide here, but when the DAO executes, the EntityManager is null.   • virtualenv does not copy standard modules like shutil and urllib2

    When I create a new virtualenv, virtualenv .virtualenvs/my_env, there is only a subset of the standard python modules copied/linked to the new virtualenv. For example, when I do ls -l in .virtualenvs/my_env/lib/python2.6, I see: ... ... os.py -> /usr/lib/python2.6/os.py ... os.pyc -> /usr/lib/python2.6/os.pyc but modules like shutil and urllib2 are not copied even if they are in /usr/lib/python2.6/shutil.py. I am using Ubuntu 9.10. Is this the expected behavior? How can I install modules such as shutil in a virtualenv (I could not find these modules on pypi)?
