  • Daemon running as user nobody needs to copy file from Desktop

    I have a daemon that is running as user nobody. It needs to copy a file that I specify into /Users/Shared/MyFolder If I tell it to copy a file that is already in /Users/Shared/ it works fine. If I tell it to copy it from somewhere in my home directory like the desktop, the copy fails. I'm using NSFileManager copyPath:toPath: Any ideas?

I.e nothing related to the core functionalities of the application, but rather examples of all these little details which give an application a "polished" look (new fonts, change in layout, more descriptive labels...others ?) The target platform will be a mobile platform (android/iphone). Note that I'm severly graphically impaired regarding colour and shape combinations, so anything too sophisticated will probably pass me by completely ;)

    Is it possible to require the user be authenticated (logged in) when downloading ZIP files from my site? Note that I don't have direct control of IIS7. (I'm on a shared hosting account.) I can't simply alter the access for a particular directory because many directories are involved and most contain other files that can be accessed freely. I've Googled this a bit and found similar questions. But I've been unable to find this exact question.

  • Skip new Windows 7 user selection and go to login prompt

    We've begun our migration to windows 7 and we ran into an interesting issue. When we hit "CTRL+ALT+DEL" we are brought to the "User selection Screen". Normally, this screen will have an icon for every local user for the machine. These machines are Domain members with "Fast User Switch" disabled so no user names are listed only the "Other User" option. If you click "Other User" or hit enter, the system moves on to the normal login screen where it prompts for user name and password. Here's the issue: We want to find a way to skip over the part where a user selects "Other User". We essentially want the system to always assume that we always want "Other User" and to go directly to the login screen when a user hits "CTRL+ALT+DEL". What I find odd is that the "Other User" doesn't show up until we've had more than one domain user log in. Right after we re-image the machine, the login process goes directly to the user credential prompt. Anyone have any ideas?

    At various points during my application's workflow, I need so show a view. That view is quite memory intensive, so I want it to be deallocated when it gets discarded by the user. So, I wrote the following code: - (MyView *)myView { if (myView != nil) return myView; myView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; // allocate memory if necessary. // further init here return myView; } - (void)discardView { [myView discard]; // the discard methods puts the view offscreen. [myView release]; // free memory! } - (void)showView { view = [self myView]; // more code that puts the view onscreen. } Unfortunately, this methods only works the first time. Subsequent requests to put the view onscreen result in "message sent to deallocated instance" errors. Apparently, a deallocated instance isn't the same thing as nil. I thought about putting an additional line after [myView release] that reads myView = nil. However, that could result in errors (any calls to myView after that line would probably yield errors). So, how can I solve this problem?

    I'm a noob, development wise and logistically-wise. I'm developing a site that lets people take a test... My client wants the ability for a user with the roll/privledge "admin" (a step below a super-admin) to be allowed to create users and only see/edit the users that they create... The users created in that "category" or group need some information that their superior provides. For example, I log in as a "manager", I have the ability to invite people to take the test, and manage those people. Before adding those people, I will have filled out a short survey about myself... Right now, the users that are invited will be asked some of the same questions as the manager. I'd like to cut down the redundancy by using the information put into the database by the manager and apply it to the invited users. How do I set up my database to work with this criterion? I'm a little confused about how to do this! Let me know if I can add more details... (This is a mysql and php app)

    I installed samba on my server and I am trying to write a script to spare me the two steps to add user, e.g.: adduser username smbpasswd -a username My smb.conf states: # This boolean parameter controls whether Samba attempts to sync the Unix # password with the SMB password when the encrypted SMB password in the # passdb is changed. unix password sync = yes Further reading brought me to pdbedit man page which states: -a This option is used to add a user into the database. This com- mand needs a user name specified with the -u switch. When adding a new user, pdbedit will also ask for the password to be used. Example: pdbedit -a -u sorce new password: retype new password Note pdbedit does not call the unix password syncronisation script if unix password sync has been set. It only updates the data in the Samba user database. If you wish to add a user and synchronise the password that im- mediately, use smbpasswd’s -a option. So... now I decided to try adding a user with smbpasswd: 1st try, unix user still does not exist: root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# smbpasswd -a newuser New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Failed to add entry for user newuser. 2nd try, unix user exists: root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# useradd mag root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# smbpasswd -a mag New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Added user mag. # switch to user pi, and try to switch to mag root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# su pi pi@raspberrypi ~ $ su mag Password: su: Authentication failure So, now I am asking myself: how do I make samba passwords sync with unix passwords? where are samba passwords stored?
