• Silverlight logging out causes "Object reference not set to an instance"

  I am using the Silverlight 4 Business Application Template. I've created a DomainDataSource in XAML like so: <riaControls:DomainDataSource x:Name="LogData" QueryName="GetLogs" AutoLoad="True" LoadSize="20" > <riaControls:DomainDataSource.DomainContext> <local:AdminDomainContext /> </riaControls:DomainDataSource.DomainContext> <riaControls:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> <riaControls:Parameter ParameterName="UserLoginID" Value="{Binding Path=User.UserLoginID, Source={StaticResource WebContext}}" /> </riaControls:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> </riaControls:DomainDataSource> The problem I'm experiencing is that whenever I log out, I get: Load operation failed for query 'GetLogs'. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I assume that because I've logged out, User.UserLoginID is now null and is causing the exception. So... anybody know a good way for me to solve this? I don't really want to set the QueryParameter programmatically.

• Unable to write to a text file

  Hello, I am running some tests and need to write to a file. When I run the test's the open = (file, 'r+') does not write to the file. The test script is below: class GetDetailsIP(TestGet): def runTest(self): self.category = ['PTZ'] try: # This run's and return's a value result = self.client.service.Get(self.category) mylogfile = open("test.txt", "r+") print >>mylogfile, result result = ("".join(mylogfile.readlines()[2])) result = str(result.split(':')[1].lstrip("//").split("/")[0]) mylogfile.close() except suds.WebFault, e: assert False except Exception, e: pass finally: if 'result' in locals(): self.assertEquals(result, self.camera_ip) else: assert False When this test run's, no value has been entered into the text file and a value is returned in the variable result. I havw also tried mylogfile.write(result). If the file does not exist is claim's the file does not exist and doesn't create one. Could this be a permission problem where python is not allowed to create a file? I have made sure that all other read's to this file are closed so I the file should not be locked. Can anyone offer any suggestion why this is happening? Thanks

I have a hierarchy of UITableViewControllers that use NSFetchedResultsController to populate the table, and when a particular row is selected, the detail view is shown. UITableView (MyMainEntity) UITableView (MyEntity) UITableView (MyEntity) detail view Both MyMainEntity UITableView and MyEntity UITableView use NSFetchedResultsController to show the records. Sometimes it crashes when i'm scrolling the tableView, and sometimes it crashes when i try to open the detail view. I can navigate to the MyEntity detail view multiple times before application crashes. What does this error mean? and how can i fix it!?

  Hi I created a WCF service which is hosted in windows service. I created a proxy using svcutil “svcutil.exe http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/FreeServiceWorld?wsdl” It generated an output.config file and proxy class. The output.config has the following element <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/FreeServiceWorld" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IWeather" contract="IWeather" name="WSHttpBinding_IWeather"> <identity> <servicePrincipalName value="host/D471DTRV.ustr.com" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> I created a website (as client) and added a new C# file (MyFile.cs) into it. I copied the contents of the proxy class into MyFile.cs. [The output.config is not copied to the web site] In the code behnid of aspx, I am using the following code WeatherClient client= new WeatherClient("WSHttpBinding_IWeather"); It throws an exception as “Could not find endpoint element with name 'WSHttpBinding_IWeather' and contract 'IWeather' in the ServiceModel client configuration section.” Could you please help me to understand the missing link here? I am trying to use this key to encode a string in Java and am running into an Arithmetic problem (exception) when I attempt to encrypt the string. • Replacing characters in a non well-formed XML body

  In a (Java) code that I'm working on, I sometimes deal with a non well-formed XML (represented as a Java String), such as: <root> <foo> bar & baz < quux </foo> </root> Since this XML will eventually need to be unmarshalled (using JAXB), obviously this XML as is will throw exception upon unmarshalling. What's the best way to replace the & and the < to its character entities? For &, it's as easy as: xml.replaceAll("&", "&amp;") However, for the < symbol, it's a bit tricky since obviously I don't want to replace the < that's used for the XML tag opening 'bracket'. Other than scanning the string and manually replacing < in the XML body with &lt;, what other option can you suggest?

• Java Swing rendering bug on Windows 7 look-and-feel?

  The knob on vertical JSlider's on my Windows 7 machine (with native look-and-feel) is really, really tiny in both directions. Not just skinny but short as well. Can anyone confirm this? Should I report it? If so, where? Thanks! • How would I authenticate against a local windows user on another machine in an ASP.NET application?

  In my ASP.NET application, I need to be able to authenticate/authorise against local Windows users/groups (ie. not Active Directory) on a different machine, as well as be able to change the passwords of said remote local Windows accounts. Yes, I know Active Directory is built for this sort of thing, but unfortunately the higher ups have decreed it needs to be done this way (so authentication against users in a database is out as well). I've tried using DirectoryEntry and WinNT like so: DirectoryEntry user = new DirectoryEntry(String.Format("WinNT://{0}/{1},User", serverName, username), username, password, AuthenticationTypes.Secure) but this results in an exception when you try to log in more than one user: Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again. I've tried making sure my DirectoryEntries are used inside a using block, so they're disposed properly, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. Plus, even if that did work it is possible that two users could hit that line of code concurrently and therefore try to create multiple connections, so it would be fragile anyway. Is there a better way to authenticate against local Windows accounts on a remote machine, authorise against their groups, and change their passwords? Thanks for your help in advance.

  Hey, I am hitting trouble constructing an XmlSerializer where the extra types contains types with the same Name (but unique Fullname). Below is an example that illustrated my scenario. Type definitions in external assembly I cannot manipulate: public static class Wheel { public enum Status { Stopped, Spinning } } public static class Engine { public enum Status { Idle, Full } } Class I have written and have control over: public class Car { public Wheel.Status WheelStatus; public Engine.Status EngineStatus; public static string Serialize(Car car) { var xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Car), new[] {typeof(Wheel.Status),typeof(Engine.Status)}); var output = new StringBuilder(); using (var sw = new StringWriter(output)) xs.Serialize(sw, car); return output.ToString(); } } The XmlSerializer constructor throws a System.InvalidOperationException with Message "There was an error reflecting type 'Engine.Status'" This exception has an InnerException of type System.InvalidOperationException and with Message "Types 'Wheel.Status' and 'Engine.Status' both use the XML type name, 'Status', from namespace ''. Use XML attributes to specify a unique XML name and/or namespace for the type." Given that I am unable to alter the enum types, how can I construct an XmlSerializer that will serialize Car successfully?

• Is it true that in most Object Oriented Programming Languages, an "i" in an instance method always r

The answer is at the end of this question. I found that the i in the alert call either refers to any local (if any), or the global variable. There is no way that it can be the instance variable or the class variable even when there is no local and no global defined. To refer to the instance variable i, we need this.i, and to the class variable i, we need Circle.i. Is this actually true for almost all Object oriented programming languages? Any exception? Are there cases that when there is no local and no global, it will look up the instance variable and then the class variable scope? (or in this case, are those called scope?) the answer is: 10 is being alerted.

  Hello! I'm having trouble getting my head around sending multiple models to a view in mvc. My problem is the following. Using EF4 I have a table with attributes organised by category. Couldn't post an image :-( [Have a table called attributes (AttributeTitle, AttributeName, CategoryID) connected to a table called Category (CategoryTitle).] What I want to do is be able to edit an attribute entity and have a dropdown of categories to choose from. I tried to make a custom viewmodel public class AttributeViewModel { public AttributeViewModel() { } public Attribute Attribute { get; set; } public IQueryable<Category> AllCategories { get; set; } } But it just ended up being a mess. <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.DropDownList("Category", new SelectList((IEnumerable)Model.AllCategories, "CategoryID", "CategoryName")) %> </div> I was getting it back to the controller... [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(int AttributeID, FormCollection formcollection) { var _attribute = ProfileDB.GetAttribute(AttributeID); int _selcategory = Convert.ToInt32(formcollection["Category"]); _attribute.CategoryID = (int)_selcategory; try { UpdateModel(_attribute); (<---Error here) ProfileDB.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch (Exception e) { return View(_attribute); } } I've debugged the code and my _attribute looks correct and _attribute.CategoryID = (int)_selcategory updates the model, but then I get the error. Somewhere here I thought that there should be a cleaner way to do this, and that if I could only send two models to the view instead of having to make a custom viewmodel. To sum it up: I want to edit my attribute and have a dropdown of all of the available categories. Any help much appreciated!

• Adding to page control collection from inside a user control

  I have an asp.net usercontrol which represents a "popup" dialog. Basically, it's a wrapper for the jQuery UI dialog which can be subclassed to easily make dialogs. As part of this control, I need to inject a div into the page the control is used on, either at the very top or very bottom of the form so that when the popup is instantiated, it's parent is changed to this div. This allows "nested" popups without the child popup being trapped inside the parent popup. The trouble is, I can't find a safe way to inject this div into the page. A usercontrol doesn't have a preinit event, so I can't do it there, and calling Page.Form.Controls.Add(...) in Init, Load or PreRender causes the standard exception "The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases." I thought I had found a solution by using... ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Page, Me.GetType, UniqueID + "_Dialog_Div", containerDiv, False) ... which seemed to work well normally, but recently a coworker tried putting an UpdatePanel inside the dialog and now she's getting the error "The script tag registered for type 'ASP.controls_order_viewzips_ascx' and key 'ctl00$ContentBody$OViewZips_Dialog_Div' has invalid characters outside of the script tags: . Only properly formatted script tags can be registered." How are you supposed to add controls to the pages control collection from inside a user control?

• Servlet File Upload Memory Consumption

  Hi, I'm using a servlet to do a multi fileupload (using apache commons fileupload to help). A portion of my code is posted below. My problem is that if I upload several files at once, the memory consumption of the app server jumps rather drastically. This is probably OK if it were only until the file upload is finished, but the app server seems to hang on to the memory and never return it to the OS. I'm worried that when I put this into production I'll end up getting an out of memory exception on the server. Any ideas on why this is happening? The purpose of these tests is to check whether a certain function is properly implemented related to a set of input-output pairs. • Iphone Core Data Internal Inconsistency

  This question has something to do with the question I posted here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1230858/iphone-core-data-crashing-on-save however the error is different so I am making a new question. Now I get this error when trying to insert new objects into my managedObjectContext: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '"MailMessage" is not a subclass of NSManagedObject.' But clearly it is: @interface MailMessage : NSManagedObject { .... And when I run this code: NSManagedObjectModel *managedObjectModel = [[self.managedObjectContext persistentStoreCoordinator] managedObjectModel]; NSEntityDescription *entity =[[managedObjectModel entitiesByName] objectForKey:@"MailMessage"]; NSManagedObject *newObject = [[NSManagedObject alloc] initWithEntity:entity insertIntoManagedObjectContext:self.managedObjectContext]; It runs fine when I do not present an MFMailComposeViewController, but if I run this code in the - (void)mailComposeController:(MFMailComposeViewController*)controller didFinishWithResult:(MFMailComposeResult)result error:(NSError*)error { method, it throws the above error when creating the newObject variable. The entity object when I use print object produces the following: (<NSEntityDescription: 0x1202e0>) name MailMessage, managedObjectClassName MailMessage, renamingIdentifier MailMessage, isAbstract 0, superentity name (null), properties { in both cases, so I don't think the managedObjectContext is completely invalid. I have no idea why it would say MailMessage is not a subclass of NSManagedObject at that point, and not at the other. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

• WCF publish/subscribe service, and ASP.NET MVC client

  I managed to develop a custom WCF service, using the publish / subscribe model, and hosted inside a managed windows service. Everything's working. I developed an interface as the service contract implementing a method definition marked as a non-one way operation contract (OperationContract(IsOneWay = false)]. This, to make possible returns an instance of a custom class derived from System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult. In the MVC app, event fires ok. It wraps inside an action method, (just the one defined in the interface), but, and this is my current problem, i believe that something relative to the execution context of the windows service (and the hosted wcf counterpart) blocks the execution of the action method in the MVC app. This is what i have until now (some pieces ripped off just to be more clear): /// Method definition for the contract's service. Maps to a MVC ActionMethod. [OperationContract(IsOneWay = false)] ActionResult Imagen(string data, CustomActionResult result); The class to hold an ActionResult derived class instance: public class ServiceEventArgsMvc : ServiceEventArgs { /// <summary> /// /// </summary> public CustomActionResult Result { get; set; } } And the code in the MVC client app: /// <summary> /// Just a simple class to hold an abstract ActionResult derived class instance. /// </summary> public ActionResult Image(string data, CustomActionResult result) { ViewData["data"] = data; return View(); } Ok. ActionMethod sucessfully executes...but when it's done (and usually expected obtain a reditection to a View named Image, like the action method), the WCF service throws a Timeout exception, making clear that he's still waiting for a response from the MVC client. The response never arrives, so the MVC app never finish his work (redirect to the "Image" view as expected). Any ideas?. Guess i'm missing something very simple, but i don't know what it could be. This is drivin' me nuts.

• How to deal with unknown entity references?

  I'm parsing (a lot of) XML files that contain entity references which i dont know in advance (can't change that fact). For example: xml = "<tag>I'm content with &funny; &entity; &references;.</tag>" when i try to parse this using the following code: final DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); final DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); final InputSource is = new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)); final Document d = db.parse(is); i get the following exception: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The entity "funny" was referenced, but not declared. but, what i do want to achieve is, that the parser replaces every entity that is not declared (unknown to the parser) with an empty String ''. Or even better, is there a way to pass a map to the parser like: Map<String,String> entityMapping = ... entityMapping.put("funny","very"); entityMapping.put("entity","important"); entityMapping.put("references","stuff"); so that i could do the following: final DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); final DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); final InputSource is = new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)); db.setEntityResolver(entityMapping); final Document d = db.parse(is); if i would obtain the text from the document using this example code i should receive: I'm content with very important stuff. Lets say I got an entity A with attribute aAttrib and a to-many relationship aRelat to another entity B with attribute bAttrib and a to-many relationship bRelat with entity A. Now I am building an interface with two tables one for entity A and another for entity B. The table for entity B has two columns one for bAttrib and one for the relationship aRelat. The aRelat-column should be a NSPopupButtonCell to display multiple aAttrib values. I'd like to set all the bindings in InterfaceBuilder in Table Column Bindings: -- I have two NSArrayController each for one entity: Object Controller Mode:Entity Array Controller Bindings: Parameters Managed Object Context bind to File's Owner -- One Table Cloumn with a PopUpButtonCell: TableCloumnBindings Content bind to Entity A with ControllerKey arrangedObjects; Content Values bind to Entity A with ModelKeyPath aAttrib Selected Object bind to Entity B with ModelKeyPath bRelat I know that this configuration doesn't allow multiple value setting. But I don't know how to do the right one. Getting the following message: HIToolbox: ignoring exception 'Unacceptable type of value for to-many relationship: property = "bRelat"; desired type = NSSet; given type = NSCFString; value = testValue.' that raised inside Carbon event dispatch... Does anyone have any idea?
