  • Problems with sys.stdout.write() with time.sleep() in a function

    - by philipjkim
    What I wanted is printing out 5 dots that a dot printed per a second using time.sleep(), but the result was 5 dots were printed at once after 5 seconds delay. Tried both print and sys.stdout.write, same result. Thanks for any advices. import time import sys def wait_for(n): """Wait for {n} seconds. {n} should be an integer greater than 0.""" if not isinstance(n, int): print 'n in wait_for(n) should be an integer.' return elif n < 1: print 'n in wait_for(n) should be greater than 0.' return for i in range(0, n): sys.stdout.write('.') time.sleep(1) sys.stdout.write('\n') def main(): wait_for(5) # FIXME: doesn't work as expected if __name__ == '__main__': try: main() except KeyboardInterrupt: print '\nAborted.'

  • Finding Most Recent Order for a Particular Item

    - by visitor
    I'm trying to write a SQL Query for DB2 Version 8 which retrieves the most recent order of a specific part for a list of users. The query receives a parameter which contains a list of customerId numbers and the partId number. For example, Order Table OrderID PartID CustomerID OrderTime I initially wanted to try: Select * from Order where OrderId = ( Select orderId from Order where partId = #requestedPartId# and customerId = #customerId# Order by orderTime desc fetch first 1 rows only ); The problem with the above query is that it only works for a single user and my query needs to include multiple users. Does anyone have a suggestion about how I could expand the above query to work for multiple users? If I remove my "fetch first 1 rows only," then it will return all rows instead of the most recent. I also tried using Max(OrderTime), but I couldn't find a way to return the OrderId from the sub-select. Thanks! Note: DB2 Version 8 does not support the SQL "TOP" function.

  • Foreign Key Relationships

    - by Yehonathan Quartey
    I have two models class Subject(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100,choices=COURSE_CHOICES) created = models.DateTimeField('created', auto_now_add=True) modified = models.DateTimeField('modified', auto_now=True) syllabus = models.FileField(upload_to='syllabus') def __unicode__(self): return self.name and class Pastquestion(models.Model): subject=models.ForeignKey(Subject) year =models.PositiveIntegerField() questions = models.FileField(upload_to='pastquestions') def __unicode__(self): return str(self.year) Each Subject can have one or more past questions but a past question can have only one subject. I want to get a subject, and get its related past questions of a particular year. I was thinking of fetching a subject and getting its related past question. Currently am implementing my code such that I rather get the past question whose subject and year correspond to any specified subject like this_subject=Subject.objects.get(name=the_subject) thepastQ=Pastquestion.objects.get(year=2000,subject=this_subject) I was thinking there is a better way to do this. Or is this already a better way? Please Do tell ?

  • numberOfSectionsInTable isn't called when [arr count] is returned

    - by user315471
    When I try returning the count of my newsItems array it breaks my application. I used NSLog to find out what the value of the newsItems count was when I returned 1. Here is from NSLog 2010-04-13 07:48:40.656 RSS Feed[453:207] Values of num items 31 2010-04-13 07:48:40.656 RSS Feed[453:207] Number of items 31 Does anyone know why returning [newsItems count] would cause my application to break? - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { NSLog(@"Values of num items %d",[newsItems count]); NSInteger *length = (NSInteger *)[newsItems count]; NSLog(@"Number of items %d",length); return 1; //return [newsItems count]; //This keeps breaking it for some reason }

  • How do I put these: @{$subset}, [@ext_subset], [$last_item] in PHP?

    - by Alex
    I'm having trouble translating a subroutine from Perl to PHP (I'm new to Perl). The entire subroutine is as follows: sub find_all_subsets { if (1 == scalar (@_)) {return [@_]} else { my @all_subsets = () ; my $last_item = pop (@_) ; my @first_subsets = find_all_subsets (@_) ; foreach my $subset (@first_subsets) { push (@all_subsets, $subset) ; my @ext_subset = @{$subset} ; push (@ext_subset, $last_item) ; push (@all_subsets, [@ext_subset]) ; } push (@all_subsets, [$last_item]) ; return (@all_subsets) ; } } My problem is that I really don't quite understand the Perl syntax, so I'm having trouble writing these @{$subset}, [@ext_subset] and [$last_item] in PHP. Thanks and sorry if the question is stupid.

  • How to pass multiple params to function in python?

    - by user1322731
    I am implementing 8bit adder in python. Here is the adder function definition: def add8(a0,a1,a2,a3,a4,a5,a6,a7,b0,b1,b2,b3,b4,b5,b6,b7,c0): All function parameters are boolean. I have implemented function that converts int into binary: def intTObin8(num): bits = [False]*8 i = 7 while num >= 1: if num % 2 == 1: bits[i] = True else: bits[i] = False i = i - 1 num /= 2 print bits return [bits[x] for x in range(0,8)] I want this function to return 8 bits. And to use this two functions as follows: add8(intTObin8(1),intTObin8(1),0) So the question is: How to pass 8 parameters using one function?

  • How to get data from dynamically created EditText views and insert it into an array?

    - by Snwspeckle
    So basically what I need my program to do at this point is that when I click the submit button, I need to loop through each dynamic row of the ListView and grab the value in the EditText view and then insert that into an array which I will do further calculations after. Here is my code right now. package com.hello_world; import java.util.ArrayList; import com.hello_world.ByteInputActivity.MyAdapter.ViewHolder; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Context; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; import android.view.KeyEvent; import android.view.LayoutInflater; import android.view.View; import android.view.View.OnFocusChangeListener; import android.view.View.OnKeyListener; import android.view.ViewGroup; import android.widget.BaseAdapter; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.EditText; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TextView; public class ByteInputActivity extends Activity { private ListView myList; private MyAdapter myAdapter; private Integer resQuestions; private Integer indexVal = 0; private View caption; ViewHolder holder; ArrayList<Integer> intArrayList = new ArrayList<Integer>(); @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.fieldlist); //Gets number of questions from MainActivity Bundle extras = getIntent().getExtras(); if(extras !=null) { resQuestions = extras.getInt("index"); } myList = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.FieldList); myList.setItemsCanFocus(true); myAdapter = new MyAdapter(); myList.setAdapter(myAdapter); Button submit = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btn_New); submit.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { for (int i = 0; i < myList.getCount() ; i++) { View vListSortOrder; vListSortOrder = myList.getChildAt(i); String temp = holder.caption.getText().toString(); Log.e("VALUES", "" +temp); } } }); } public class MyAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private LayoutInflater mInflater; public ArrayList myItems = new ArrayList(); public MyAdapter() { mInflater = (LayoutInflater) getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); for (int i = 0; i < resQuestions; i++) { ListItem listItem = new ListItem(); listItem.caption = "Index " + i; listItem.indexText = "Index " + i; myItems.add(listItem); indexVal += 1; } notifyDataSetChanged(); } public int getCount() { return myItems.size(); } public Object getItem(int position) { return position; } public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { if (convertView == null) { holder = new ViewHolder(); convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.item, null); holder.indexText = (TextView) convertView .findViewById(R.id.textView1); holder.caption = (EditText) convertView .findViewById(R.id.ItemCaption); convertView.setTag(holder); } else { holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } //Fill EditText with the value you have in data source holder.caption.setText(""); holder.caption.setId(position); holder.indexText.setText("Index " + position); holder.indexText.setId(position); //we need to update adapter once we finish with editing holder.caption.setOnFocusChangeListener(new OnFocusChangeListener() { public void onFocusChange(View v, boolean hasFocus) { if (!hasFocus){ final int position = v.getId(); final EditText Caption = (EditText) v; myItems.set(position, Caption.getText().toString()); } } }); return convertView; } class ViewHolder { EditText caption; TextView indexText; } class ListItem { String caption; String indexText; } } }

  • Programmatically get valid switch/case values

    - by craigim
    When MATLAB scans through cases in a switch/case block, does it remember the values that it skips, and is it possible to access that list? I have a few functions with long switch\case block and I would like to have them return a list of valid case values if they make it down to otherwise. For instance, I have a function that returns a set of optical constants for a material. It currently has about 20 different materials and it is growing as I consider new ones. I realize I can brute-force it and just re-type all of the valid cases into a cell array under otherwise and have the function throw an error and return the list of valid responses, but maintaining both lists without errors or laziness creeping in over time is challenging.

  • Is there a method I can override on a JavaScript object to control what is displayed by console.log?

    - by agnoster
    I'm thinking in particular of Chrome, though Firebug would be interesting to. I've tried toString() and valueOf(), but neither of those seem to be used. Interestingly, if I take a function it'll display the function definition - but then if I add a toString() method it will show null! var a = function(){}; console.log(a); // output: function (){} a.toString = function(){ return 'a'; }; console.log(a); // output: null a.valueOf = function(){ return 'v'; }; console.log(a); // output: null Any ideas?

  • C++ OOP: Which functions to put into the class?

    - by oh boy
    Assume I have a class a: class a { public: void load_data( ); private: void check_data( ); void work_data( ); void analyze_data( ); } Those functions all do something with the class or one of its members. However this function: bool validate_something( myType myData ) { if ( myData.blah > 0 && myData.blah < 100 ) { return true; } return false; } Is related to the class and will only be called by it, so it won't be needed anywhere else Doesn't do anything with the class or its members - just a small "utility" function Where to put validate_something? Inside or outside the class?

  • assigning a string to another string

    - by user1509676
    Why this code is not running? Why str1 is not assigned to str2 ?? I know i have an option of using strcpy but i wish to know the reason why this is not working?? #include<stdio.h> int main() { char str1[]="hello"; char str2[10]; str2=str1; printf("%s",str2); return 0; } Whereas if I use pointers than it works like here.. #include<stdio.h> int main() ( char *s="good morning"; char *q; q=s; while(*q!='\0') { printf("%c",*q); q++; } return 0; } This works. Now the string has been copied via pointers so why such difference??

  • How to predict result set row count?

    - by Saurabh Kumar
    I have an application where I create a big SQL query dynamically for SQL server 2008. This query is based on various search criteria which the user might give such as search by lastname, firstname, ssn etc. The requirement is that if the user gives a condition due to which the formed query might return a lot of rows(configurable for max N rows), then the application must send back a message instead to the user saying that he needs to refine his search query as the existing query will return too many rows. I would not want to bring back say, 5000 rows to the client and then discard that data just to show the user an error. What is an efficient way to tackle this issue?

  • How to keep the first result of a function from Prolog?

    - by zuhakasa
    I need to write a customized function that will be called many times by other fixed functions. In this function, at the first called time, it will return the total number of lines of a file. The second called time of this function, forward, will return the number of lines in small sections of this file. My question is how I keep the first returned result(total number of lines of a file) and use it for the next called times of my function. I need to write or declare any thing only in this function(not in the caller). Something like this: myFunction(Input, MyResult, FirstResult) :- calculateInputFunction(Input, Result), !, MyResult is Result, ... . The problem is, every time myFunction is called, it receives different Input and returns different MyResult. But I would like to keep the first MyResult to use for next called times of myFunction. How can I do that? Thanks very much for your answer in advance.

  • how to get all the menu items below a certain parent in drupal?

    I really only need the mlid and title text for the first level below a certain menu item. Here's what I'm doing at the moment. I make a function that detect when are "\n\r"? and after how capture binary data? Or, I put all data in memory, and after parse it? but how? I'm desperate :(

  • Where to declare variable? C#

    - by user1303781
    I am trying to make an average function... 'Total' adds them, then 'Total' is divided by n, the number of entries... No matter where I put 'double Total;', I get an error message. In this example I get... Use of unassigned local variable 'Total' If I put it before the comment, both references show up as error... I'm sure it's something simple..... namespace frmAssignment3 { class StatisticalFunctions { public static class Statistics { //public static double Average(List<MachineData.MachineRecord> argMachineDataList) public static double Average(List<double> argMachineDataList) { double Total; int n; for (n = 1; n <= argMachineDataList.Count; n++) { Total = argMachineDataList[n]; } return Total / n; } public static double StDevSample(List<MachineData.MachineRecord> argMachineDataList) { return -1; } } } }

  • Creating Oracle stored procedure that returns data

    - by user3614327
    In Firebird you can create a stored procedure that returns data an invoke it like a table passing the arguments: create or alter procedure SEL_MAS_IVA ( PCANTIDAD double precision) returns ( CANTIDAD_CONIVA double precision) as begin CANTIDAD_CONIVA = pCANTIDAD*(1.16); suspend; end select * from SEL_MAS_IVA(100) will return a single row single column (named CANTIDAD_CONIVA) relation with the value 116 This is a very simple example. The stored procedure can of course have any number of input and output parameters and do whatever it needs to return data (including multiple rows), which is accomplished by the "suspend" statement (which as it name implies, suspends the SP execution, returns data to the caller, and resumes with the next statement) How can I create such kind of stored procedures in Oracle?

  • Getting the fractional part of a float without using modf()

    - by knight666
    Hi, I'm developing for a platform without a math library, so I need to build my own tools. My current way of getting the fraction is to convert the float to fixed point (multiply with (float)0xFFFF, cast to int), get only the lower part (mask with 0xFFFF) and convert it back to a float again. However, the imprecision is killing me. I'm using my Frac() and InvFrac() functions to draw an anti-aliased line. Using modf I get a perfectly smooth line. With my own method pixels start jumping around due to precision loss. This is my code: const float fp_amount = (float)(0xFFFF); const float fp_amount_inv = 1.f / fp_amount; inline float Frac(float a_X) { return ((int)(a_X * fp_amount) & 0xFFFF) * fp_amount_inv; } inline float Frac(float a_X) { return (0xFFFF - (int)(a_X * fp_amount) & 0xFFFF) * fp_amount_inv; } Thanks in advance!
