• Is this XML file correct for RSS feeding?

  Hi guys I am generating a XML-RSS type file from PHP. The output for example is like this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?> <rss version="2.0"> <channel> <title>Mi web mola</title> <link>http://www.dominio.com/blog.php</link> <language>es-ES</language> <description>Mallas y eso</description> <generator>Autor</generator> <item> <title>Articulo de prueba</title> <link>http://www.midominio.com/2342</link> <pubDate>14/06/2010</pubDate> <description><![CDATA[Descripcion de prueba bla bla bla]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[Contenido prueba]]></content:encoded> </item> </channel> </rss> ... and all I can see in the Firefox preview is the title and the description of the blog, not the items, but in the source it appears correctly, so I've thought it must be a parse error or something like that.. • Controller actions appear to be synchronous though on different requests?

  I am under the impression that the below code should work asynchronously. • ASP.NET Web Service returning XML result and nodevalue is always null

  I have an ASP.NET web service which returns an XMLDocument. The web service is called from a Firefox extension using XMLHttpRequest. var serviceRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); serviecRequest.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "text/xml; charset=utf-8"); I consume the result using responseXML. So far so good. But when I iterate through the XML I retrieve nodeValue - nodeValue is always null. When I check the nodeType the nodeType is type 1 (Node.ELEMENT_NODE == 1). Node.NodeValue states all nodes of type Element will return null. In my webservice I have created a string with the XML i.e. xml="Hank" I then create the XmlDocument XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.LoadXML(string); I know I can specify the nodetype using using CreateNode. But when I am just building the xml by appending string values is there a way to change the nodeType to Text so Node.nodeValue will be "content of the text node".

Iam happy! Why not the same happens when i try to do from the browser (i tested in IE6 & Chrome) using javascript:document.getElementById("myInput").type="text" different browsers behave in different way... when i tried javascript:document.getElementById("myInput").value="myNewValue", IE6 changes the value, but chrome doesn't.. Why is this "javascript:" behaving like this ?

• how to generate large image in compact framework

  I need to generate large images (A4 image at 200 DPI, PNG format would be fine) in my compact framework application. This is impossible to do in standard way due to memory limitations (such big image will throw OOMException). Is there any library which offers file-backed stream image generation? Or I could generate many smaller stripes of images (each stripe representing a row of the large image) using standard Bitmap approach, but I need to merge them together afterwards - is there any method how to merge many smaller images into one large without having to instantiate large Bitmap instance (which would again cause OOM)?

• How to check at runtime if a class implements certain interface?

  Let's say I have some content classes like Page, TabGroup, Tab, etc. Certain of those will be implementing my IWidgetContainer interface - it means they will geet an additional field named ContainedItems from the interface and some methods for manipulating this field. Now I need to reflect the fact that some class implements this interface by rendering out some special custom controls in my ASP.NET MVC Views (like jQuery Add/Remove/Move/Reorder buttons). For instance, TabGroup will implement IWidgetContainer because it will contain tabs but a tab will not implement it because it won't have the ability to contain anything. So I have to somehow check in my view, when I render my content objects (The problem is, I use my base class as strong type in my view not concrete classes), whether it implements IWidgetContainer. How is that possible or have I completely missed something? To rephrase the question, how do you reflect some special properties of a class (like interface implementation) in the UI in general (not necessarily ASP.NET MVC)?   Hello everyone, I'm looking for a full stack framework (from persistency to view generation (CRUD)) for Java. I don't have experience with Rails style frameworks, like Grails, but I worked a lot with Hibernate, Struts, Spring ... I prefer a framework that let you naturally modify the business domain design with the less effort ( i.e. writing the sql querys to modify the tables and constrains, change the view pages, etc ... ). • Full GC real time is much more that user+sys times

  Hi. We have a Web Java based application running on JBoss with allowed maximum heap size of about 1.2 GB (total machine physical memory is 2 GB). At some point the application stops responding (to clients) for several minutes. After some analysis we found out that the culprit is the Full GC. Here's an excerpt from the verbose GC log: 74477.402: [Full GC [PSYoungGen: 3648K-0K(332160K)] [PSOldGen: 778476K-589497K(819200K)] 782124K-589497K(1151360K) [PSPermGen: 102671K-102671K(171328K)], 646.1546860 secs] [Times: user=3.84 sys=3.72, real=646.17 secs] What I don't understand is how is it possible that the real time spent on Full GC is about 11 minutes (646 seconds), while user+sys times are just 7.5 seconds. 7.5 seconds sound to me much more logical time to spend for cleaning <200 MB from the old generation. Where does all the other time go? Thanks a lot.

• The Impossible Layout?

  I'm beginning to think this is impossible, but thought I'd ask you guys. Basically it's a 2 column layout, but the "business" wants the following: -Always take up the entire browser window -Accommodate resizing of browser window -Left column will be fixed width, but that width should be flexible from page-to-page. -Left column has a region at the top with fixed height. -Left column has a bottom region. It should take up the remaining vertical space of browser window. If content is very large, it will have a scroll bar just for that region. -Right column should take up remaining horizontal space of browser window. -Right column has a region at the top with fixed height. -Right column has a bottom region. It should take up the remaining vertical space of browser window. If content is very large, it will have a scroll bar just for that region. • How to color a mesh with values at the vertices in WPF 3D?

  We've got a sphere which we want to display in 3D and color given a fuction that depends on spherical coordinates. The sphere was triangulated using a regular grid in (theta, phi), but this produced a lot of small triangles near the poles. In an attempt to reduce the number triangles at the poles, we've changed out mesh generation to produce more evenly sized triangles over the surface. The first triangulation method had the advantage that we could easily create a texture and drape it over the surface. It seems that in WPF it isn't possible to assign colors to vertices the way one would go about in OpenGL or Direct3D. With the second triangulation method it isn't apparent how to go about generating the texture and setting the texture coordinates, since the vertices aren't aligned to a grid anymore. Maybe it would be possible to create a linear texture containing a color for each vertex, but then how will that effect the coloring? Will it still render smoothly over the triangle surfaces as one would expect by applying per vertex coloring?

• Qt: any way to automatically generate QSharedData-based structures?

  Hello. Qt has a build-in supprt for creating objects with integrated reference counting via QSharedData and QSharedDataPointer. All wordks great, but for each such object i need to write a lot of code: QSharedData-based implementation class with constructor and copy constructor, object class itsef with accessor methods for each filed. For a simple structures with 5-10 fields this requires really lot of near same code. Is it some ways to automate such classes generation? Maybe it's some generators exists that take a short description and automatically generates implementation class and object class with all accessors?

• Should GSON ignore varying types if they're not used in a class?

  I'm making an API call that returns JSON which has a particular field which either returns false or a map depending on content. It's a field that I don't care about. I expected GSON to ignore this particular field, though it doesn't seem to be. The object generation fails with the following message: com.google.gson.JsonSyntaxException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Expected a string but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 403560 I've seen this particular question (Gson deserialize json with varying value types). I want to make sure I need to make a custom deserializer before doing so. I'm wondering if I may have another issue. edit: Example: "anonymous_flag": { } vs "anonymous_flag": "yes" Another Edit: I actually had the field in my model object... I was referencing the wrong class. Judge away :)

• Once an HTML document has a manifest (cache.manifest), how can you remove it?

  It seems that once you have a manifest entry, a la: <html manifest="cache.manifest"> Then that page (the master entry in the cache) will always be cached (at least by Safari) until the user does something to remove the cache, even if you later remove the manifest attribute from the html tag and update the manifest (by changing something within it), forcing the master entry to be reloaded along with everything else. In other words, if you have: index.html (with manifest defined) file1.js (referenced in manifest) file2.js (referenced in manifest) cache.manifest (lists the two js files) -- removing the manifest entry from index.html and modifying the manifest (so it gets expired by the browser and all content reloaded) will not stop this page from behaving as if it's still fully cached. If you view source on index.html you won't see the manifest listed anymore, but the browser will still request only the cache.manifest file, and unless that file's content is changed, no other changes to any files will be shown to the user. It seems like a pretty glaring bug, and it's present on iOS as well as Mac versions of Safari. Has anyone found a way of resetting the page and getting rid of the cache without requiring user intervention?

  I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any T4 template based method interception systems? We are beginning to write mobile applications (currently with MonoTouch for IOS). We have a very nice core set of DI/IoC functionality and I'd like to leverage this in development for the new platform. Since runtime code generation Reflection.Emit is not supported, I'm hoping to use T4 templates to implement the dynamic interception functionality (+ TinyIoC as a container for resolution). We are currently using Castle Windsor (and intend to continue doing so for our SL and full .NET development), but all of the Windsor specific ties are completely encapsulated, so given a suitable T4 solution, it shouldn't be hard to implement an adapter that uses a T4 based implementation instead of Windsor.

• Web page for IPhone - Large fonts instead of scrolling?

  I'm planning the layout of my web page, which should also be usable on the IPhone. I don't really have much experience with the IPhone yet - I just installed the IPhone Simulator on my Mac. The page's contents are flexible, so I think it would be better to use this flexibility to avoid that the user has to scroll around the entire page. Especially I have A header and a sidebar that will be used all the time to perform several actions. A main content area with a number of elements (e.g. images). The UI would stay usable pretty well, if the number of elements shown at one time is reduced for a small screen (e.g. by JavaScript). It would also be okay to make the main content area scrollable (as opposed to the entire page). The problem: If I simply display the page on the IPhone, it uses an extremely small font size, so that users must zoom in first, and then scroll around - so that they can't see the header and sidebar all the time. What's the best way to deal with this situation? Just leave it this way (very small fonts), because users expect that behaviour on the IPhone? Increase the font size (by specifying it in em or px or with xx-large, or what would be the best way?), if I detect - somehow - that it's being displayed on the IPhone. Or is there some way to restrict the viewport size to the screen size, and make it zoom in automatically? I think that would be the easiest solution in my case. Or ...?
