    Several console based applications like vim or lynx offer a rich user interface which enables the user to navigate freely around the console, manipulate data directly on screen, access menus and much more, similar to "modern" gui applications. How is that being achieved in principal on Unix/Linux with C++? Do you directly manipulate some kind of character buffer or is the screen constantly cleared and reprinted to stdout? Is there a set of libraries to implement such behavior or even some kind of a "modern" event-driven GUI toolkit for the console?

  • Node.js A Good authentication module ? or whats the proper way to authenticate users?

    I'm learning Node.js and looking forward to create a simple web application which will be based on Express and I was thinking of something like creating user groups and each group has its own users and each group has its own permissions (Just like ACL in Cakephp) So can anyone recommend a good module or whatever to do so ? Also I'm a little curious about security and how these passwords are going to be saved and what type of encryption the passwords will be encrypted in. Thanks :)

The scenario is like this - a client machine will send data through internet to the server machine and data size will be big enough. So should i use simple TCP/IP socket concept or else?   • Calling C# code from Java?

    Does anyone have a good solution for integrating some C# code into a java application? The code is small, so I could re-write in java, but I would rather reuse the code if possible. Don't repeat yourself, etc. Also, I know I can expose the C# as a web service or whatever, but it has some security/encryption stuff in there, so I would rather keep it tightly integrated if possible. Edit: It's going to be on a server-based app, so "downloading" another runtime is irrelevant.

I'm trying to write it so that if the user leaves the input blank, then the letter that would otherwise be taken to generate the username defaults to the letter 'z'.     I want to write a macro that spits out code based on the boolean value of its parameter. So say DEF_CONST(true) should be expanded into "const", and DEF_CONST(false) should be expanded into nothing. Clearly the following doesn't work because we can't use another preprocessor inside #defines: #define DEF_CONST(b_const) \ #if (b_const) \ const \ #endif Any idea about how to do it?

  • Is there a script that would allow me to edit multiple files as if they are one file in VIM?

    I prefer to edit in one large file rather than many independent files, but due to limitations in languages, source control, and the preference of team mates I need to output to many files. What I'm looking for would recurse through all the files in a source directory and generate a single file to edit in VIM, with special file seperator markers. On save it would save the the changes to the correct file(s) ideally in a smart manner, based only on changes made. Does something like this exist?
