• Code Golf: Counting XML elements in file on Android

  Take a simple XML file formatted like this: <Lists> <List> <Note/> ... <Note/> </List> <List> <Note/> ... <Note/> </List> </Lists> Each node has some attributes that actually hold the data of the file. I need a very quick way to count the number of each type of element, (List and Note). Lists is simply the root and doesn't matter. I can do this with a simple string search or something similar, but I need to make this as fast as possible. Design Parameters: Must be in java (Android application). Must AVOID allocating memory as much as possible. Must return the total number of Note elements and the number of List elements in the file, regardless of location in file. Number of Lists will typically be small (1-4), and number of notes can potentially be very large (upwards of 1000, typically 100) per file. I look forward to your suggestions.

  Hello Everyone, I'm using the Directory.GetFiles() method to get a list of files to operate on. This method throws an UnauthorizedAccessException for example when trying to access a protected folder. I would like it to simply skip over such folders and continue. How can I accomplish this with either Directory.GetFiles (preferably) or another method? Update: Here is the code that throws the exception. I am asking the user to select a directory and then retrieving the list of files. I commented out the code (so this is now whole method) that iterates through the files and the problem still occurs. The exception is thrown on the Directory.GetFiles() line.   Hi, In my application I download several critical files from a server, and I want to write some code that handles the case where the a file download didn't complete for a reason or other ,to retry downloading it at next startup. The function that downloads a file at a time however throws only MalformedURLException and IOException , but if these exceptions are thrown that means that the download didn't even begin.   I have been trying to read a file in "cp037" encoding scheme using JAVA. I able to read a file in basic encoding schemes like UTF-8, UTF16 etc...After a bit of research on the internet i came to know that we need charset.jar or international version of JRE be installed to support extended encoding schemes. Can anyone send me a link for international version of JRE6 or JDK6. or is there any better way that i could read a file in cp037 encoding scheme. P.S: cp037 is a character encoding scheme supported by IBM Mainframes. All i need is to display a file in windows, which is being generated on IBM Mainframes machine, using a java program.   I have been looking for a C# tree control for displaying a file system that has the following capabilities: Select a starting directory. I don't always want to start at a "default" top directory level. The ability to grab an event when the user double clicks on a file in the tree. I want to handle opening the file within my application. I have been looking at this C# File Browser. Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out how to do meet my second need. Is there any way to give current user (IIS User, in this case, ASP NET USER) permission to write to a specific folder location (folder inside our web application) using web.config? Because, it's getting boring to ask to the web hoster to gain access to a specific folder each time we want to do a file uploader on a website. I know it's maybe preaty simple to find an answer using google, but it keeps returning me how to write INTO web.config instead of permission to write into web.config FOR a specific folder. • How to determine a text block of a file in one version come from which file in the previous version?

  The problem is described below: Suppose I have a list of files in one version(say A,B,C,D). In the next version I have the following files(A,E,F,G). There are some similarities in their contents. The files in the later version comes from the previous version by file name renaming, content addition, deletion or partial modification or without any change( for example A is not changed). I take a block of text from a file(E, 2nd version) and check which files(in the 1st version) contain this text block. I found that B,C and D contain the text fragment. I want to determine from which file(B or c or d) this text block actually comes from.(I assume that E is a file whose name change in the second version). Since the contents may be changed, added or deleted in the later version, so in order to determine similarity I use LCS algorithm. But I cannot map the file with its previous version. I think one possible approach might be to use the location information of the match text blocks. But this heuristics not always work. Is there any research or algorithm exist to find so. Any direction will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I have a windows service which reads the config settings from an external file which is located at a different path than the path to the executable for the windows service. the windows service uses a FileSystemWatcher to monitor the changes to the external config file and when it the config file is changed, it should refresh the settings in memory by reading the updated settings from the config file. but this is where I am getting an exception "ConfigurationErrorsException" and the message is "An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for appSettings: The process cannot access the file 'M:\somefolder\WindowsService1.Config' because it is being used by another process." and the inner exception is actually "IOException" with same message. here is the code. I am not sure what is wrong with the code.
