• Adding attachments to HumanTasks *beforehand*

  For an demo I'm preparing along with a partner, we need to add some attachments to a HumanTask beforehand, that is, the attachment must be associated already to the Task by the time the user opens its Form. How to achieve this?, indeed it's quite simple and just a matter of some mappings to the Task's input execData structure. Oracle BPM supports "default" attachments (which use BPM tables) or UCM-based ones. The way to insert attachments for both methods is pretty similar. With default attachments When using default attachments, first we need to have the attachment payload as part of the BPM process, that is, must be contained in a variable. Normally the attachment content is binary, so we'll need first to convert it to a base64-string (not covered on this blog entry). What we need to do is just to map the following execData parameters as part of the input of the HumanTask: execData.attachment[n].content            <-- the base64 payload data execData.attachment[n].mimeType           <-- depends on your attachment                                               (e.g.: "application/pdf") execData.attachment[n].name               <-- attachment name (just the name you want to                                               use. No need to be the original filename) execData.attachment[n].attachmentScope    <-- BPM or TASK (depending on your needs) execData.attachment[n].storageType        <-- TASK execData.attachment[n].doesBelongToParent <-- false (not sure if this one is really                                               needed, but it definitely doesn't hurt) execData.attachment[n].updatedBy          <-- username who is attaching it execData.attachment[n].updatedDate        <-- dateTime of when this attachment is                                               attached  Bear in mind that the attachment structure is a repetitive one. So if you need to add more than one attachment, you'll need to use XSLT mapping. If not, the Assign mapper automatically adds [1] for the iteration.  With UCM-based attachments With UCM-based attachments, the procedure is basically the same. We'll need to map some extra fields and not to map others. The tricky part with UCM-based attachments is what we need to know beforehand about the attachment itself. Of course, we don't need to have the payload, but a couple of information from the attachment that must be checked in already in UCM. In my case I get those from a Search call to UCM (not covered on this blog entry) As I mentioned above, we must know which UCM document we're going to attach. We may know its ID, its name... whatever we need to uniquely identify it calling the IDC Search method. This method returns ALL the info we need to attach the different fields labeled with a number above.  The only tricky one is (6). UCM Search service returns the url attribute as a context-root without hostname:port. E.g.: /cs/groups/public/documents/document/dgvs/mdaw/~edisp/ccasareswcptel000239.pdf However we do need to include the full qualified URL when mapping (6). Where to get the http://<hostname>:<port> value? Honestly, I have no clue. What I use to do is to use a BPM property that can always be modified at runtime if needed. There are some other fields that might be needed in the execData.attachment structure, like account (if UCM's is using Accounts). But for demos I've never needed to use them, so I'm not sure whether it's necessary or not. Feel free to add some comments to this entry if you know it ;-)  That's all folks. Richard Hundhausen has a great blog with ample of reason why or why not you should need to set the values of these fields to historic dates. So, essentially this task has burned 1 hour per day Sprint Burn Down Chart – What’s not possible? The Sprint burn down chart is calculated from the System.AuthorizedDate and not the System.ChangedDate/System.CreatedDate. So, though you can change the System.ChangedDate and System.CreatedDate to historic dates you will not be able to synthesize the sprint burn down chart. Image 1 – By changing the Created Date and Changed Date to ‘18/Oct/2012’ you would have expected the burn down to have been impacted, but it won’t be, because the sprint burn down chart uses the value of field ‘System.AuthorizedDate’ to calculate the unfinished work points. The AsOf queries that are used to calculate the unfinished work points use the value of the field ‘System.AuthorizedDate’. Image 2 – Using the above code I burned down 1 hour effort per day over 5 days from the task work item, I would have expected the sprint burn down to show a constant burn down, instead the burn down shows the effort exhausted on the 24th itself. Simply because the burn down is calculated using the ‘System.AuthorizedDate’. Now you would ask… “Can I change the value of the field System.AuthorizedDate to a historic date” Unfortunately that’s not possible! You will run into the exception ValidationException –  “TF26194: The value for field ‘Authorized Date’ cannot be changed.” Conclusion - You need to be a member of the Project Collection Service account group in order to set the fields ‘System.ChangedDate’ and ‘System.CreatedDate’ to historic dates - You need to instantiate the WorkItemStore using the flag ByPassValidation - The System.ChangedDate needs to be set to a historic date at the time of work item creation. You cannot reset the ChangedDate to a date earlier than the existing ChangedDate and you cannot reset the ChangedDate to a date greater than the current date time. - The System.CreatedDate can only be reset after a work item has been created. You cannot set the CreatedDate at the time of work item creation. The CreatedDate cannot be greater than the current date. You can however reset the CreatedDate to a date earlier than the existing value. - You will not be able to synthesize the Sprint burn down chart by changing the value of System.ChangedDate and System.CreatedDate to historic dates, since the burn down chart uses AsOf queries to calculate the unfinished work points which internally uses the System.AuthorizedDate and NOT the System.ChangedDate & System.CreatedDate - System.AuthorizedDate cannot be set to a historic date using the TFS API Read other posts on using the TFS API here… Enjoy!

By the looks of these logs the ypbind service is starting up at 12:57:12 but the network interface isn't coming up till 12:57:15. My guess is that this is causing ypbind to time out when trying to connect. As a knock-on effect the NIS failure is causing problems with NFS which is no longer able to map UIDs properly. This problem doesn't seem to be fixed by actually starting ypbind etc. so I've had to set all my NFS shares to noauto. I have tried manually adding NETWORKDELAY and NETWORKWAIT in /etc/sysconfig/network and also running systemctl enable NetworkManager-wait-online.service as I've seen suggested in some places, but neither of these have had any effect. It is relatively easy to fix manually by restarting ypbind & mounting NFS shares after the network has started up, but it's less than ideal to have to do this every time the server has been rebooted. Does anyone know of an easy (and preferably hack-free) way of delaying the ypbind startup till after the network interface is fully ready?

• Huawei b153 limit of devices

  I set up my home network all through this 3G wifi router. Problem is it only allows 5 devices to connect. That's not much especially if a wifi printer and gaming consoles keep hogging these slots. On the other hand I don't see the point on blocking these devices. They are (should) not doing anything online just intern in my network. The documentation I can find is surpirisingly unhelpful and focuses how to plug the device in a power socket. So what would be my options. Notes: I have already been able to get a shell on the device using ssh. It's running some Busybox. But I fail to find the how and where this limit is enforced/created. Notes 2: Specifically my device is a 3WebCube - unfortunately not specifically marked with the Huawei Model number. • Trying to use Digest Authentication for Folder Protection

  StackOverflow users suggested I try my question here. I'm using Server 2008 EE and IIS 7. I've got a site that I've migrated over from XP Pro using IIS 5. On the old system, I was using IIS Password to use simple .htaccess files to control a couple of folders that I didn't want to be publicly viewable. Now that I'm running a full-blown DC with a more powerful version of IIS, I decided it'd be a good idea to start using something slightly more sophisticated. After doing my research and trying to keep things as cheap as possible with a touch of extra security, I decided that Digest Authentication would be the best way to go. My issue is this: With Anon access disabled and Digest enabled, I am never prompted for credentials. when on the server, viewing domain[dot]com/example will simply show my 401.htm page without prompting me for credentials. when on a different network/computer, viewing domain[dot]com/example again shows my 401.htm without prompting for credentials. At the site level I only have Anon enabled. Every subfolder, unless I want it protected, has just Anon enabled. Only the folders I want protected have Anon disabled and Digest enabled. I have tried editing the bindings to see if that would spark any kind of change... www.domain.com, domain.com, and localhost have all been tried. There was never a change in behavior at any permutation (aside from the page not being found when I un-bound localhost to the site). I might have screwed up when I deleted the default site from IIS. I didn't think I'd actually need it for anything, but some of what I have read online is telling me otherwise now. As for Digest settings, I have it pointed to local.domain.com, which is the name assigned to my AD Domain. I'm guessing that's right, but honestly have no clue about what a realm actually is. Would it matter that I have an A record for local.domain.com pointing to my IP address? I had problems initially with an absolute link for 401.htm pages, but have since resolved that. Instead of D:\HTTP\401.htm I've used /401.htm and all is well. I used to get error 500's because it couldn't find the custom 401.htm file, but now it loads just fine. • Windows 2008 R2 SMB / CIFS Logging to diagnose Brother MFC Network Scanning

  I am attempting to setup network scanning on a brother MFC-9970CDW printer. According to the Brother documentation, the printer is setup to connect to any CIFS network share. I applied all of the appropriate setting in the printer however I get a "sending error" when I try to scan a document. When I look at the logs of the 2008 R2 server that I am attempting to connect to; I can see in the security log where the printer successfully authenticates, however nothing else is logged. I would assume that immediately after the authentication, the printer is making a CIFS request and some sort of error is occurring, however I can't seem to find any way to log this information to find out what is going on. Is it possible to get Windows 2008 to log SMB/CIFS traffic? • Network authentication + roaming home directory - which technology should I look into using?

  I'm looking into software which provides a user with a single identity across multiple computers. That is, a user should have the same permissions on each computer, and the user should have access to all of his or her files (roaming home directory) on each computer. There seem to be many solutions for this general idea, but I'm trying to determine the best one for me. Here are some details along with requirements: The network of machines are Amazon EC2 instances running Ubuntu. We access the machines with SSH. Some machines on this LAN may have different uses, but I am only discussing machines for a certain use (running a multi-tenancy platform). The system will not necessarily have a constant amount of machines. We may have to permanently or temporarily alter the amount of machines running. This is the the reason why I'm looking into centralized authentication/storage. The implementation of this effect should be a secure one. We're unsure if users will have direct shell access, but their software will potentially be running (under restricted Linux user names, of course) on our systems, which is as good as direct shell access. Let's assume that their software could potentially be malicious for the sake of security. I have heard of several technologies/combinations to achieve my goal, but I'm unsure of the ramifications of each. An older ServerFault post recommended NFS & NIS, though the combination has security problems according to this old article by Symantec. The article suggests moving to NIS+, but, as it is old, this Wikipedia article has cited statements suggesting a trending away from NIS+ by Sun. The recommended replacement is another thing I have heard of... LDAP. It looks like LDAP can be used to save user information in a centralized location on a network. NFS would still need to be used to cover the 'roaming home folder' requirement, but I see references of them being used together. Since the Symantec article pointed out security problems in both NIS and NFS, is there software to replace NFS, or should I heed that article's suggestions for locking it down? I'm tending toward LDAP because another fundamental piece of our architecture, RabbitMQ, has a authentication/authorization plugin for LDAP. RabbitMQ will be accessible in a restricted manner to users on the system, so I would like to tie the security systems together if possible. Kerberos is another secure authentication protocol that I have heard of. I learned a bit about it some years ago in a cryptography class but don't remember much about it. I have seen suggestions online that it can be combined with LDAP in several ways. Is this necessary? What are the security risks of LDAP without Kerberos? I also remember Kerberos being used in another piece of software developed by Carnegie Mellon University... Andrew File System, or AFS. OpenAFS is available for use, though its setup seems a bit complicated. At my university, AFS provides both requirements... I can log in to any machine, and my "AFS folder" is always available (at least when I acquire an AFS token). Along with suggestions for which path I should look into, does anybody have any guides which were particularly helpful? As the bold text pointed out, LDAP looks to be the best choice, but I'm particularly interested in the implementation details (Keberos? NFS?) with respect to security.

• SQL Server Issue: Could not allocate space for object ... primary filegroup is full

  Trying to figure out a problem at an office that has SQL Server 2005 installed on Windows SBS Server 2008. Here's the setup: It's an office, and the person who set this all up is nowhere to be found. I'm the best hope they have... One of the programs they use on a workstation gives them an error of "Could not allocate space for object 'Billing' in database "MyDatabase" because primary filegroup is full" when trying to save an entry in their software. I searched around for hours, looking for possible solutions. One was to check for available disk space, and another was to defrag. I checked the hard drives on the server, and there is plenty of space free. I also defragged, which may have helped the problem somewhat. It's hard to say, because it seems like with the nature of the error, if you try over and over you might get it to actually save. My next step was to try to see if autogrowth was enabled on the database. This would seem to be a likely / possible solution, but I can't access the database! If I run the SQL Management Studio, I can log in as my Windows user and view the list of databases. However, if I try to do anything (actually view the database, view the properties, add or edit users), I get errors that I don't have permission. For what it's worth, I also tried runing Management Studio as Administrator, in case that would help. No difference, though. Now, what I'm guessing is going on -- from my limited knowledge of SQL and from reading online -- is that though I'm logged in as a Windows administrator, that account does NOT have SQL access. I do see a list of SQL users, including SA, but I again don't have permission to add one or to change the password on an existing one. And nobody at the office has any idea what the SQL passwords could be. So... here's my thinking thus far: 1 - The "Could not allocate" error likely points to a database that needs to be allowed to autogrow. Especially since I verified there is plenty of free space and the HD has been defragmented. 2 - Enabling autogrow would be very easy to do if I had the proper access within SQL Management Stuido. That leads me to this link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sqlman/archive/2011/06/14/tips-amp-tricks-you-have-lost-access-to-sql-server-now-what.aspx It sounds like it's a step-by-step guide for giving me the access I need to SQL. I'm guessing that if I followed this guide, I would be able to then log in to the SQL server via Management Studio with the proper permissions, and would be able to enable autogrow (or simply view the status of the existing database), and hopefully solve the "Could not allocate space" problem! So I guess I have a few questions: 1 - Would you guys agree with my "diagnosis"? Think I'm barking up the right tree? 2 - Is there any risk at all in hurting / disabling / wrecking the current SQL database or setup with me going through the guide to regain SQL access? I understand that per the guide, I would have to temporarily shut down SQL, so obviously it wouldn't be accessible during that time. But it wouldn't be worth the risk if there's a chance I could mess anything up... Like I said, the workstations ARE currently accessing the database somehow, but nobody knows with what login info or anything. Basically, it's set up, it works (usually), but if they had to reload the software, nobody would know how. Any feedback would be appreciated!! The problem is such that it's not an emergency for them, but an annoyance. If I could fix it, it would be wonderful. • DHCP and DNS services configuration for VOIP system, windows domain, etc

  My company has numerous physical offices (for purposes of this discussion, 15 buildings). Some of them are well-connected to our primary data center via fiber. Others will be connected to the data center by P2P T1. We are in the beginning stages of implementing an Avaya VOIP telephone system, and we will be replacing a significant portion of our network infrastructure in the process. In tandem with the phone system implementation, we are going to be re-addressing some of our networks, and consolidating most of our Windows domains into one (not all domains, just most). We currently have quite a few Windows domains, and they of course each have their own DNS zones. A few of those networks currently use DHCP, but the majority use static IP assignments for every device. I'm tired of managing static assignments -- I want to use DHCP configuration on everything except servers. Printers and etc will have DHCP reservations. The new IP phones will need to get IP addresses from DHCP, though they need to be in a separate VLAN from the computers/printers/etc. The computers and printers need to be registered in DNS. That's currently handled by the Windows DHCP servers on each of the respective domains. We need to place a priority on DHCP and DNS being available on a per-site basis (in case something were to interrupt the WAN connection) for computers and (primarily) phones. Smaller locations (which will have IP phones but not be a member of any Windows domain) will not have any Windows DNS/DHCP server(s) available. We also are looking for the easiest way to replace a part if it were to fail. That is to say, if a server/appliance/router hosting DHCP were to crash hard, and we couldn't extremely quickly recover the DHCP reservations and leases (and subsequently restore them onto a cold spare), we anticipate that bad things could happen. What is the best idea for how to re-implement DNS and DHCP keeping all of the above in mind? Some thoughts that have been raised (by myself or my coworkers): Use Windows DNS and DHCP servers, where they exist, and use IP helpers to route DHCP requests to some other Windows server if necessary. May not be acceptable if the WAN goes down and clients don't get a DHCP response. Use Windows DNS (everywhere, over WAN in some cases) and a mix of Windows DHCP and DHCP provided by Cisco routers. Every site would be covered for DHCP, but from what I've read, Cisco routers can't handle dynamic registration of DHCP clients to Windows DNS servers, which might create a problem where Cisco routers are used for DHCP. Use Windows DNS (everywhere, over WAN in some cases) and a mix of Windows DHCP and DHCP provided by some service running on an extremely low-price linux server. Is there any such software that would allow DHCP leases granted by these linux boxes to be dynamically registered on the Windows DNS servers? Come up with a Linux solution for both DNS and DHCP, and deploy low-price linux servers to every site. Requirements would be that the DNS zone be multi-master (like Windows DNS integrated with Active Directory), that DHCP be able to make dynamic DNS registrations in that zone, for every lease (where a hostname is provided and is thus possible), and that multiple servers be either authoritative for the same DHCP scope or at least receiving a real-time copy / replication / sync of the leases table so that if one server dies, we still know which MAC has what address. Purchase dedicated DNS/DHCP appliances, deploying to all sites. From what I read/see, this solves all of our technical problems. Then come the financial problems... I don't have a ton of money to spend on this. Or, some other solution that we've thus far overlooked and will consider upon recommendation. Can Cisco routers or Windows servers sync DHCP lease tables so that multiple servers can be authoritative (or active/passive for all I care) for the same scope, in case one of the partners were to fail? I've read online (repeatedly) that ISC's DHCP is able to maintain the same lease table across multiple servers, in order to solve this problem. Does anyone have any experience or advice to regarding that?

• Windows 2008 Unknown Disks

  I have a BL460c G7 blade server with OS Windows 2008 R2 SP1. This is a brand new C7000 enclosure, with FlexFabric interconnects. I got my FC switches setup and zoned properly to our Clariion CX4, and can see all the hosts that are assigned FCoE HBAs on both paths in both Navisphere and in HP Virtual Connect Manager. So I went ahead and created a storage group for a test server, assigned the appropriate host, assigned the LUN to the server. So far so good, log onto server and I can see 4 unknown disks.... No problem, I install MS MPIO, no luck, can't initialize the disks, and the multiple disks don't go away. Still no problem, I install PowerPath version 5.5 reboot. Now I see 3 disks. One is initialized and ready to go, but I still have 2 disks that I can't initialize, can't offline, can't delete. If I right click in storage manager and go to properties I can see that the MS MPIO tab, but I can't make a path active. I want to get rid of these phantom disks, but so far nothing is working and google searches are showing up some odd results, so obviously I'm not framing my question right. I thought I'd ask here real quick. Does anyone know a quick way to get rid of these unknown disks. Another question, do I need the MPIO feature installed if I have PowerPath installed? This is my first time installing Windows 2008 R2 in this fashion and I'm not sure if that feature is needed or not right now. So some more information to add to this. It seems I'm dealing with more of a Windows issue than anything else. I removed the LUN from the server, uninstalled PowerPath completely, removed the MPIO feature from the server, and rebooted twice. Now I am back to the original 4 Unknown Disks (plus the local Disk 0 containing the OS partition of course, which is working fine) I went to diskpart, I could see all 4 Unknown disks, I selected each disk, ran clean (just in case i'd somehow brought them online previously as GPT and didn't realize it) After a few minutes I was no longer able to see the disks when I ran list disk. However, the disks are still in Disk Management. When I try and offline the disks from Disk Management I get an error: Virtual Disk Manager - The system cannot find the file specified. Accompanied by an error in System Event Logs: Log Name: System Source: Virtual Disk Service Date: 6/25/2012 4:02:01 PM Event ID: 1 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: hostname.local Description: Unexpected failure. Error code: 2@02000018 Event Xml: 1 2 0 0x80000000000000 4239 System hostname.local 2@02000018 I feel sure there is a place I can go in the Registry to get rid of these, I just can't recall where and I am loathe to experiement. So to recap, there are currently no LUNS attached at all, I still have the phantom disks, and I'm getting The system cannot find the file specified from Virtual Disk Manager when I try to take them offline. • Unmountable boot volume blue screen, what should I do?

  I was trying to install an update from NVIDIA for my GTX 560, but while it was installing, my computer shut off. After a few minutes, I turned it back on. It got to the Windows boot screen and then had a blue screen error and if left on it would just keep doing that. A few details about my PC: I haven't added any new hardware or software, I'm running Windows XP Professional 32 bit and Windows XP Professional 64 bit on the same hard drive for about 2 years now. I have 2 other hard drives also, but I don't have one large enough to hold everything from my main hard drive, so formatting isn't an option. Now, as for what I've done so far: I've scanned the RAM with "memtest - 86 v3.4" and it said that it was good. I scanned the hard drive in question with chkdsk /r and it gets to 50% and tells me something along the lines of "the drive has one or more unrepairable problems". I also tried to use chkdsk on the drive I installed the new copy of Windows XP on and it got to 75% then jumped back down to 50% and stayed there (I had to reboot the pc). So, after that, I turned off auto reboot and got to read the blue screen error code and I looked it up only to find that nobody seems to have this problem, just problems close to it. The error code is 0x000000ed and I've seen a lot of these online but none that matched the detailed part of the code UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0x000000ed (0xfffffadf513c19a0, 0xffffffffc0000006, 0, 0) So, I have installed another copy of Windows XP Professional 32 bit on one of my other hard drives in hopes of accessing the data on the drive in question and when it booted it asked if I wanted chkdsk to scan the drive in question and this is what it found: file record segments 12740, 12741, 12742 and 12743 were reported unreadable. Then it says "recovering lost files" but it sits there for a few seconds and then just boots to Windows. I can't access the drive in question from Windows as far as I can tell, it just says "drive not accessible" and when I go to properties it says that the drive has 100% free space. So, after that failed I didn't give up, I looked for another way to access the drive in question. I used a Ubuntu bootable disk and was able to access the drive in question without any problems. However, I can't access the registry editor because it's a .exe file and that won't load from Ubuntu. I made a copy of the "Windows" folder and put it on one of my other drives and that's where I'm stuck at now. I'm sure my drive works fine, I know chkdsk can't fix the problem with it and I know what caused the problem in the first place for the most part, but I don't know what to do about it. I have a laptop that I can use to download and burn disks if needed and I also have the other copy of Windows XP Professional 32 bit that I can use that's installed on the computer in question (so I know it's not a hardware issue). I'm pretty sure it's a driver issue or the update was editing the registry when it shut off and left me when a broken registry. I've tried accessing C:\Windows\System32\CONFIG only to find that the Windows XP disk repair option can't even access the files on the drive in question. It seems I'll need to be able to do everything from Ubuntu unless there is something I haven't tried with the Windows XP disk. I didn't install the update on Windows XP 64 bit but yet it also has the same blue screen error (that's where the error code above came from but I haven't checked to see if they are the same). They both stopped working at the same time, so I assume it's one problem causing both to not work.

• Upgraded Ubuntu, all drives in one zpool marked unavailable

  I just upgraded Ubuntu 14.04, and I had two ZFS pools on the server. There was some minor issue with me fighting with the ZFS driver and the kernel version, but that's worked out now. One pool came online, and mounted fine. The other didn't. All drives in the unmountable zpool are marked UNAVAIL, with no notes for corrupted data The pools were both created with disks referenced from /dev/disk/by-id/. Symlinks from /dev/disk/by-id to the various /dev/sd devices seems to be correct zdb can read the labels from the drives. Pool has already been attempted to be exported/imported, and isn't able to import again. Is there some sort of black magic I can invoke via zpool/zfs to bring these disks back into a reasonable array? Can I run zpool create zraid ... without losing my data? Is my data gone anyhow?

I can't find anything online about this. I found a single entry for the error message in Google, and it was a swedish (or some other nordic language site) that didn't have an answer to the question. I don't have direct control over the firewall, but if changes are necessary to make it work, I may be able to get the powers-that-be to make adjustments. A solution that doesn't require reconfiguring the firewall would be far better of course... Does anyone know what I can do to make this behave? Thanks, Dan

• Strange enduser experience with Liferay, Glassfish and Apache on RedHat

  Tried multiple forums to get to the bottom of this. I hope I can get some direction here: Here is the stack I am working with: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6 (Tikanga) Liferay 6.0.6 on Glassfish 3.0.1 MySQL 5.0.77 Apache 2.2.3 The Liferay portal provides a variety of portlets to end users. Static content (web pages), static resources (primarily pdf and mp3 files 1mb - 80mb in size), File upload and download capabilities (primarily 40-60mb mp3 files) and online streaming of those MP3 files. Here is the strange end user experiences: Under normal load: (20-30) users uploading, downloading or streaming files and 20-30 accessing static content (some of it downloads), we see the following: 1) Clicking a link triggers the download of a portion of an MP3 (the portion is a few seconds long). 2) Clicking on a link tiggers the download of the page content rather than rendering. 3) Clicking a link causes the page to dump binary data to the end user rather than the expected content. 4) Clicking a link returns the text of a javascript file rather than rendering the page. Each occurrence is totally random (or appears so). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to have no relation to browser or client OS. The strange events seem to occur much more frequently when using an SSL connection rather than regular http. Apache serves as a proxy server only (reverse). It basically passes all the requests through to Glassfish. There isn't any static content proxy served by Apache. We rebuilt the entire stack from scratch and redeployed the portlet wars and still have the same issues. Liferay is running as a single server (not clustered). We disabled mod_cache in Apache. The problems are more frequent as the server load grows. This morning the load is pretty light and we are seeing few problems but the use of the site will grow, particularly tonight around 9pm CST through Wednesday morning. You could try the site (http://preview.bsfinternational.org) during those times and I would expect that you might experience one of the weirdnesses as you randomly click links on the site (https is invoked only when signed in). Again, https seems to exacerbate the issue. This seems very much like a caching issue but I don't know where in the stack to start peeling the onion. Apache? Liferay? Glassfish? MySQL? Maybe even Redhat? We are stumped and most forums we have posted to (LifeRay and Glassfish) have returned very few suggestions. I just need an idea of where to start looking. I understand that we could have a portlet EDIT: Opening the files in a Hex editor that appear to be pages that download rather than render, we see that the first 4000 characters are "junk" and then the "HTTP/1.1 ...." 'normal' header is seen. So something is dumping a jumble of characters up to offset 4000 (when viewing it in a Hex editor). Perhaps a clue? Ideas?

• TV not detected by Windows/VGA - when there is a WHDI device in the signal chain

  I'm at my wit's end with this one... I had an EVGA GTS 250, and I used to plug it's HDMI out into a WHDI sender, which transmitted to its corresponding WHDI receiver 15ft away, which then connected to a Samsung LN40D LCD TV through another HDMI cable. PC/VGA < [hdmi cable] < WHDI sender <[air] WHDI receiver < [hdmi cable] < TV It was perfect, stable, no perceivable latency. I just plugged everything the first time and it worked instantly. It sent 5.1 audio, and Windows/nVidia Control Center detected the TV by its name. The WHDI device is this one: http://goo.gl/Q8iWI5 Now I bought an EVGA GTX 650, and WHDI doesn't work anymore. Both Windows and nVidia Control Center won't detect the TV, only the monitor that's connected via DVI. The TV screen shows "TX202913 connected. Check video signal." on top of a black screen. Though the device is not the problem itself, just the fact that it's not allowing direct connection between PC and TV. I would bet that if put an AVR in its place I'd also have this issue. The HDMI on this new card works with other monitors. If I put the older card back, WHDI works normally. I have googled this for 5 months on and off. Once I bumped into a page that showed how to force a display device to always-on through registry edit. Once I restarted windows, the Tv (through WHDI) displayed my expanded or duplicated desktop at 1024x768 ONLY, and listed the display as "digital display". I could not change the resolution and it wouldn't playback audio (although the option was available at nVidia Control Center HDMI audio options, but did not work). This proves that there is no conflict between the devices, except that software-wise, Windows cannot, for the life of it, understand that there's a TV there to send video/audio to. Since this won't do (no audio, poor video), I reverted this regedit. It's also not an EDID problem within the TV, since when connected directly it works. The last weird bit of this saga is that today, I reminded of Windows' "Add Device" dialog, gave it a go, and a "Samsung Generic UPNP TV" showed up, which I promptly installed the drives for, rising to a climax of... ...NOTHING HAPPENING. As far as I can tell, it really didn't change anything other than using up a few kb in my main disc. I should also say that I looked a LOT into handshake problems and nothing applied either. Do any of you have an idea of what may be going on? I can't stand the thought of having a us$200 device not working because of the addition of a newer graphics card, when the much older one had no issues. There is absolutely NO REASON for this to happen. There is NO documentation on WHDI online. Apparently no one buys this stuff. For the same reason, no one responded to this same plea for help on NVidia and EVGA forums. Worst case, this can be a warning about this setup for people in the future. Thanx in advance.

• Home ADSL Modem Dropping Packets?

  I know this is supposed to be a "pro" forum, but I'm hoping someone can help since my ISP isn't doing much to try and fix things. My ISP has given me a DSL modem / Router combo - a ADB / Pirelli P.DG A2100N and I have a 4096 / 767 kbps connection. I use it purely as modem and router, and have the wireless AP feature turned off. I run it to a Ubiquiti Networks Toughswitch and use a Ubiquiti UAP as the wireless access point - although I've ran tests directly wired to the router with nothing else connected, and still see the same issues. I've been having issues where latency suddenly spikes from 8ms to google.com to 250+ if someone does anything on the internet. If I run a speedtest or something, I can see latencies above 3000ms. Regularly when downloading something, even if the speed is throttled to , it can get random drops to 0kbps every few seconds. Online gaming is impossible because I notice the sudden lag-outs in the connection, and video streams or VoIP drop out as well - it's not at all consistent. • Issues configuring Exchange 2010 as well as SSL problems.

  Possibly-Relevant Background Info: I've recently moved up from icky shared hosting to a glorious, Remote Desktop-administrated VPS server running Windows Server 2008 R2. Even though I'm only 21 now and a computer science major, I've tried to play with every Windows Server release since '03, just to learn new things. What usually happens is inevitably I'll do something wrong and pretty much ruin the install. You're dealing with an amateur here :) Through the past few months of working with my new server, I've mastered DNS, IIS, got Team Foundation Server running (yay!), and can install all of the other basics like SQL Server and Active Directory. The Problem: Now, these last few weeks I've been trying to install Exchange Server 2010 (SP1). To make a long story short, it took me several attempts, and I even had to get my server wiped just so I could start fresh since Exchange decided uninstalling properly was for sissies (cost me $20, bah). Today, at long last, I got Exchange mostly working. There were two main problems left, however, that left me unsatisfied: Exchange installed itself and all of its child sites into Default Web Site. I wanted to access Exchange via mail.domain.com, but instead everything was configured to domain.com. My limited server admin knowledge was not enough to configure IIS or Exchange to move itself over to the website I had set up for it, appropriately titled 'mail.domain.com', which I had bound to a dedicated IP address (I was told this was necessary, but he may have been wrong). I have two SSL certificates: one for my main domain and one for my mail subdomain. For whatever reason, I had issues geting Exchange to use my mail certificate, even though I had assigned the proper roles in the MMC. I did, at one point, get it to work (or mostly work, anyways. Frankly, my memory of today is clouded by intense frustration). Additionally, I was confused which type of SSL certificate I should be using for Exchange. My SSL provider, GoDaddy, allows me to request a new certificate whenever, so I can use either the certificate request provided by IIS or the more complicated and specific request you can create with Exchange. Which type should I be using, the IIS or Exchange certificate? If I must use the Exchange certificate, will that 1) cause issues when I bind that certificate to my mail.domain.com subdomain or 2) is that an unnecessary step? The SSL Certificate Strikes Back When I thought I had the proper SSL certificate assigned for those brief, sweet moments, Google Chrome reported the correct mail.domain.com certificate when browsing https://mail.domain.com. However, Outlook 2010 threw up an error when trying to configure my email account claiming that the certificate didn't match the domain of "mail.domain.com". Is this an issue that will be resolved by problem #2 or is it a separate one entirely? Apologies for the massive wall of text, but I wanted to provide as much info as I possibly could. Exchange is the last thing I'd like installed on my server, and naturally it's turning out to be the hardest. Thanks for any info at all. Even a point in a vague direction would be a huge help at this point. Thanks! -Eric P.S.: The reason I keep ruining my install is that when I attempt to uninstall Exchange, something invariably goes wrong. The last time the uninstaller complained that there was still a mailbox active and it couldn't proceed until I deleted it. ... The only mailbox left was the Administrator account, the built-in one I couldn't delete. So I attempted to manually uninstall it following several guides online only to now be stuck unable to launch the installer and have to get my system wiped AGAIN for the second time today ($40 down the drain, bah!). I do not understand at all why "uninstall" just can't mean "hey, you, delete everything and go away". There's not even a force uninstall option, only a "recover system" option that just fails to fix anything and makes it so I can't even use the GUI uninstaller. </rant>

So the only way I know how to boot the server is to go to the datacenter, pick up the server and take it to the office. Screw open the server. Attach a cdrom drive to an IDE slot on the motherboard. And then boot it. I am hoping you guys could help me avoid this. I have looked a bit through the boot options and I found the following boot options. When CentOS is about to boot and interrupt the boot-countdown: CentOS (2.6.32-279.1.1.el63.i686) CentOS Linux (2.6.32-71.29.1.el6.i686) centos (2.6.32-71.el6.i686) I think the first configuration is the default one, because choosing that gets me to the above mentioned kernel panic. The other ones end with something like "Sleeping forever". I can press 'e' to edit boot commands, press 'a' to modify kernel arguments and press 'c' for grub command line. The command line gives a grub prompt. But I have no idea how to get the system to boot without (trying to) access the dirty partitions. What I want to do is off course: - boot the machine - check hard drive for errors - mark the drive as clean
