• vbscript help needed [migrated]

  I am trying to move a group of files with in a group of folders named recup_dir.1 through recup_dir.535 into a single folder so that all the files will be out of the folders and just in the single folder. I know I will need to use a loop to move the files and probably concatenation to go from recup_dir.1 to recup_dir.535 but I just am not that skilled in programming please help!! I just want it to automate the copying and moving of the files rather than do it manually.

• How to I prevent decimal truncation in Word 2003 when a document is auto populated via a Web Service

  I have a document template which is being auto populated via an external web service. The incoming data exists as a currency (e.g. 3.10) but when it is passed into the Word Document template the variable is truncated to remove any trailing 0's. I need the number to always appear with 2 decimals, even if they are both 0's. This is with the 2003 version of Word, I have not tested with other versions since all of our document templates need to be generated using that version of Word. I feel like this can be done with a Macro or a VB script but I have a very small amount of time & no experience with these tools - Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Published Windows Phone 7 apps: good for the Resume/CV?

  I'm a long time Microsoft developer who has recently started publishing Windows Phone 7 apps to beef up my current C#/.NET skills, and get more direct exposure to WPF/Silverlight, and of course because it is new and cool. So far I've published over 10 apps successfully. Is this a good thing to put on my resume? Does it appear to show a grasp of the latest Microsoft technologies? Any downside seen by potential employers? Would you put this on your resume, if looking for a full time professional Software Engineering position?

• How mature is FreeBASIC?

  A friend of mine is considering using FreeBASIC in a critical production environment. They currently use GWBasic, and they want to make a soft transition towards more modern languages. I am just worried that there might be undetected bugs in the software. I see that their version number is 0.22.0, which indicates, that it is not quite mature yet. I also read this discussion, without being able to conclude. Also on their Sourceforge pages there is no indication of whether it is Alpha or Beta (which anyways is not a very good indicator). Does anyone have own experience about the maturity, ideas on how to judge the maturity, or know of companies using FreeBASIC in a critical production environment?

• Why does update-grub not find ubuntu 11.10?

  I've recently installed ubuntu onto my laptop. With the intention of dual booting with windows 7. On installation Grub wasn't loading, the computer continued to boot straight into windows. I loaded a live cd, mounted the installed ubuntu partion (sda6) as /mnt/ and windows boot partition as /mnt/boot Following the second option here: http://ubuntuguide.net/how-to-restore-grub-2-after-reinstalling-windows-xpvistawin7 Through its entirety, so creating a new grub.cfg file. chroot /mnt update-grub Did not find ubuntu, just windows 7 and the windows recovery partition. Thinking this might be a weird quirk that as I was in ubuntu (all be it a live cd) it might not list ubuntu I restarted. Grub loaded but ubuntu was nowhere to be seen. How can I add ubuntu with Grub2? I could have fixed this myself in old grub but I'm pretty much in the dark here. Thanks

• Does anyone have a good example/sample of "goto" spaghetti code? [closed]

  I've read a lot about how GoTo was considered harmful and removed for other control structures that were more intuitive. Does anyone have a good example / sample of goto spaghetti code? Preferrably, the sample code should be difficult to follow, but realtively easy when rewritten into more conventional control structures. I know I could try to write you some of my own, but I've never really used goto and don't think I could due justice to the headaches its abuse can lead to. I want this for didactic purposes to train junior developers on what to avoid. Mainly, to point to illustrate how OOP is taking the same idea to next logical consequence. EDIT: by good example I mean code that is terrible to read and abuses it, rather than code that uses goto for reasonable optimization

• Dell M6800 with Windos 8.1 on part-1, cannot run if Ubuntu and Fedora are 2nd and 3rd OSsen?

  On a Dell M6800 machine that has Windows 8 pre-installed, I upgraded to 8.1, then I loaded Ubuntu 14.04 then Fedora 20 the only way I could, that is in "Legacy" BIOS Mode. BTW the Ubuntu install was unable to complete but Fedora did, and left all working, 2 bootable OSsen, with Grub2 from Fedora doing the boots, but Windows 8.1 is now "invisible". I have run Boot-Repair but info is not useful. It tells me to switch to UEFI which, on M6800, doesn't work with this (too long-winded to explain why here). I need to have the Grub2 configs "see" the original Windows 8.1 partition, with BIOS switched to "Legacy". BTW various posts have said make switch to UEFI to boot from, say, USB-stick or DVD; this is wrong, you can't - UEFI mode only allows boot from the Windows partition, which it says has a Windows 8.1 on it, which doesn't boot. Basically, if you have actually succeeded in loading Ubuntu 14.04 or Fedora 20 on an M6800, which comes with pre-loaded Windows 8, you will know how I fix this.

I'm about to signup for a hosting plan with GoDaddy. My main requirement is ColdFusion and MySQL. The plans on offer include Linux and Windows based plans. Which one should I choose, and why? I don't have a lot of requirements other than what I mentioned above. I never used Linux before but I doubt I'll ever need to do anything beyond tampering with my account. • Windows Phone 8 Launch Event Summary

  Today was the official coming out party for Windows Phone 8.  Below is a summary of the launch event.  There is a lot here to stay with me. They started with a commercial staring Joe Belfiore show how his Windows Phone 8 was personal too him which highlights something I think Microsoft has done well over the last couple of event: spotlight how Windows Phone is a different experience from other smartphones.  Joe actually called iPhone and Android “tired old metaphors" and explained that the idea around Windows Phone was to “reinvent the smartphone around you” as “the most personal smartphone operating system”.  The is the message that they need to drive home in their adds. The only real technical aspect we found out was that they have optimized the operating system around the dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip set.  It seems like all of the other hardware goodies had already been announced.  The remainder of the event was centered around new features of the OS and app announcements. So what are we getting?  The integrated features included lock screen live tile, Data Sense, Rooms and Kids corner.  There wasn’t a lot of information about it, but Joe also talked about apps not just having live tiles, but being live apps that could integrate with wallet and the hub. The lock screen will now be able to be personalized with live tile data or even a photo slide show.  This gives the lock screen an even better ability to give you the information you want to know before you even unlock the phone. The Kids Corner allows you as a parent to setup an area on your phone that you kids can go into an use it without disturbing your apps.  They can play games or use apps that you have designated and will only see those apps.  It even has a special lock screen gesture just for the kids corner. Rooms allow you to organize your phone around the groups of people in your life.  You get a shared calendar, a room wall as well as shared notes beyond just being able to send messages to a group.  You can also invite people not on the Windows Phone platform to access an online version of the room. Data Sense is a new feature that gives you better control and understanding of your data plan usage.  You can see which applications are using data and it can automatically adjust they way your phone behaves as you get close to your data limit. Add to these features the fact that the entire Windows ecosystem is integrated with SkyDrive and you have an available anywhere experience that is unequaled by any other platform.  Your document, photos and music are available on your Windows Phone, Window 8 device and Xbox.  SkyDrive also doesn’t limit how long you can keep files like the competing cloud platforms and give more free storage. It was interesting the way they made the launch event more personal.  First Joe brought out his own kids to demo the Kids Corner.  They followed this up by bringing out Jessica Alba to discuss her experience on the Windows Phone 8.  They need to keep putting a face on the product instead of just showing features as a cold list. Then we get to apps.  We knew that the new Skype was coming, but we found out that it was created in such a way that it can receive calls without running consistently in the background which would eat up battery.  This announcement was follow by the coming Facebook app that is optimized for Windows Phone 8.  As a matter of fact they indicated that just after launch the marketplace would have 46 out of the top 50 apps used by all smartphone platforms.  In a rational world this tide with over 120,000 apps currently in the marketplace there should be no more argument about the Windows Phone ecosystem. For those of us who develop for Windows Phone and weren’t on the early adoption program will finally get access to the SDK tomorrow after an announcement at Build (more waiting).  Perhaps we will get a few new features then. • Problem in multi booting Ubuntu 12.04 with existing Windows XP, 7 and 8 in 500GB HDD with 5 Partitions

  Here's my case. I have 500GB HDD with 5 Partitions with XP, Windows7 and Windows8 RP in the first three. As per one of the instruction I've seen in this forum, I did shrink my 4th Partition to create a 30GB unallocated free space to install Ubuntu 12.04. But, when next I'm trying to boot the Ubuntu CD and choosing "Something Else", its only recognizing my 500GB HDD in whole as "/sda" and not reading the free 30GB space separately to install Ubuntu in it as suggested in the instruction mentioned in this forum. I've also tried to install in from within Windows7, by mounting the Ubuntu ISO file and using the .exe file and instruction thereupon (choosing free drive, user name, installation size, etc.), but that also failed after the PC restarted to continue the installation, showing as error for file extension, partition something error. One thing to be noted that the PC I'm trying to install Ubuntu in it is my Home PC and doesn't have any internet connection. Hence, no updates or otherwise online help. What shall I do?? Kindly suggest. Sorry if I made some grammatical mistakes as English is not my first language. Thanks in advance.

• How can a website look different in safari Windows and Safari mac?

I've been testing crossbrowser on my windows PC, and it looks good in all browsers, but on Mac in Safari it looks like the CSS is not getting interpreted right, or there is a critical javascript error. When I look in the console cross-browser, the error log shows exactly the same. Chrome on mac interprets the site as intended, so why do I have a problem with safari. It is the same across different computers, and iphone safari also shows the site wrong. How is this possible and how do I debug?

  I have a VB.NET 2008 program that accesses a Siebel web service defined by a WSDL and using the SOAP protocol. The Siebel web service requires that a header containing the username, password and session type be included with the service request, but the header is not defined in the WSDL. • VB6 general search form

  I'm working on an old vb6/access2003 app which is used to handle orders, bills of materials and that sort of things. I'm thinking about creating a form that I call every time the users needs to search for something. This should work like these: Click on the field to complete, let's say name of a buyer Open new form, search for the client and click on it Return the name of the buyer to the previous form (probably the header of the order) So, I would need to pass to the new form something that identify the type of search I have to do (so what access table to open) and return some values. Is my idea correct or there something better? I would like to use only one form for all the searches, now the app works with a lot of msflexgrid for every form.

• Trigger event on email send with old VB6 Outlook add-in

  I have a fairly old Outlook add-in written in VB6. This adds a toolbar on the Outlook ribbon with buttons for various bits of functionality which interact with emails in the inbox, the contact list and calendar. I have been asked if it would be possible to trigger some of the functions of this add-in when a user hits "Send" on an email. Does anyone know if it is possible to hook a VB6 program into the send event, or if it would be possible to write a new plugin, using .Net as an example, which could hook into the send event and trigger the functionality on the old plug in?? Sorry if this is a bit vague, it is a little hard to explain. If you need to know anything further, just ask, otherwise any advice is greatly appreciated!

• Attempting to install Ubuntu 11.10 along side Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Installer doesn't recognize an operating system present

  System Details: Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard AMD FX-8120 CPU 16 GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengance RAM (4x4) EVGA Nvidia GTX-560Ti video card 2x Dvd/cd rw dirves 1 Bluray RW drive 1 Orico USB 3.0 & eSata panel 1 Sabrent floppy bay card reader w/USB 2.0 port 760W pc power & cooling PS OCZ agility 120GB SSD (Windows 7 Professional 64bit installed in an approx 80gb partition, NTFS. There is also a "System Reserved" partition shown in disk management at 100mb in size, also NTFS) That leaves about 32GB usable free, un-partitioned space in which I hoped to install Ubuntu. However when I run the Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64 installer, it doesn't show there is even an operating system installed. It just shows the entire drive as free-unpartitioned space. Just not sure what to do here. I was thinking about using the Wubi installer, but i don't know about that. Is the performance reduction pretty drastic? Thanks,

After I boot, grub lets me choose Mandriva or Windows.   I am writing a program for a spelling test in vb 2010. I have 20 input textboxes for the user to spell the words as sapi says them. My question is ! How do I get sapi to say a word from a multiline textbox then pause and give the focus to the 1st textbox so the user can type it and give them 30 sec then sapi will say the next word then give focus to the 2nd textbox so user can type and give them 30 secs to type the word. Then sapi will say 3rd word the user will get 30 secs to type the word all the way to 20 words then the test will be done. I have 1 multiline textbox that holds 20 words
