  • Testing for security vulnerabilities on web applications

    - by Moak
A lot of companies use CMS software that updates on the regular, often they are security fixes, implying that the previous version have security vulnerabilities. But most clients never upgrade this, or even the CMS has been modified so that an update would break the site. Are there sites that document these exploits, and instruct how to test for them? Or does this information not even get published? (in order not to have people try to exploit them) Also is there a generic php/js based check list to prevent hack attempts? I know about SQL injections and XSS, but I'm sure that there are more threats out there. Peace

  • Design review - do you think I'm doing this the right way? First commercial project for me!

    - by Sergio Tapia
I'm tasked with designing an application that will allow a person to scan a legal document, save that associated with a Name and save it to a database. Now, inside of the Organization, there are many departments, and each department can have many sub departments. Problem lies in that some larger organizations will have many departments and smallers ones will only have 1 or two. I've though about creating a Department table and a Supdepartment table to create associations, etc. That way it's extensible and users can dynamically create departments to fit my program to their organizational scheme. Am I approaching this the right way? As I said, this is my first commercial application so I want to do it right and set a name for myself for delivering things on time and good code for other to expand upon.

  • Sanitizing CSS in Rails

    - by Erik
Hello! I want to allow the users of a web app that I'm building to write their own CSS in order to customize their profile page. However I am aware of this opening up for many security risks, i e background: url('javascript:alert("Got your cookies! " + document.cookies'). Hence I am looking for a solution to sanitize the CSS while still allowing as much CSS functionality as possible for my users. So my questions if anyone anyone knows of a gem or a plugin to handles this? I've googled my brains out already so any tips would be really appreciated!

  • jQuery: How to smooth animated image resizing

    - by nikibrown
I'm a jQuery noob - so please excuse the probable basicness of this question. I'm doing something pretty simple - on hover animate the position and size of an image. When you mouse over the images there are some noticeable 'jaggies' - is there a way to get rid of this? The jquery code is as follows and a live link is here kristechdev.metropoliscreative.com (hover over the icons). <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('#zoomNav li img').hoverIntent( function() { $(this).animate({'margin-top' :'-35px', 'margin-left' :'-10px', 'height' :'95px','width' : '79px' }, 'fast'); }, function() { $(this).animate({'margin-top' : '0px', 'margin-left' :'0px', 'height' :'70px','width' : '58px' }, 'fast'); }); }); </script>

  • How to string multiple TextReaders together?

    - by Ken
I have 3 TextReaders -- a combination of StreamReaders and StringReaders. Conceptually, the concatenation of them is a single text document. I want to call a method (not under my control) that takes a single TextReader. Is there any built-in or easy way to make a concatenating TextReader from multiple TextReaders? (I could write my own TextReader subclass, but it looks like a fair amount of work. In that case, I'd just write them all out to a temp file and then open it with a single StreamReader.) Is there an easy solution to this that I'm missing?

So my question is how can I do the same thing but using PHP. Best regards.

  • Jquery: Handling Checkbox Click Event with JQuery

    - by wcolbert
    I can't figure out what is going on here. I have some nested lists of checkboxes that I would like to check when the parent is checked. More importantly, I can't even get the alert to show up. It's as if the click event is not firing. Any ideas? $(document).ready(function() { $("#part_mapper_list input[type=checkbox]").click(function(){ alert("clicked"); if ($(this).attr("checked") == "checked"){ $(this + " input").attr("checked") = "checked"; } else { $(this + " input").attr("checked") = ""; } }); }

  • Printings using CUPS, when can my app quit?

    - by KPexEA
I have an linux app that uses cups for printing, but I've noticed that if I print and then quit my app right away my printout never appears. So I assume that my app has to wait for it to actually come out of the printer before quitting, so does anyone know how to tell when it's finished printing?? I'm using libcups to print a postscript file that my app generates. So I use the command to print the file and it then returns back to my app. So my app thinks that the document is off to the printer queue when I guess it has not made it there yet. So rather than have all my users have to look on the screen for the printer icon in the system tray I would rather have a solution in code, so if they try and quit before it has really been sent off I can alert them to the fact. Also the file I generate is a temporary file so it would be nice to know when it is finished with so I can delete it.

  • Duplicate an element on button-push with jQuery

    - by paracaudex
I'm new to jQuery, and I'm trying to cause another identical dropdown menu to appear each time the user presses a button. I thought this would work, where #append is the button id and #foo is the dropdown id: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#append").click(function(){ $("#foo").append($("#foo")); }); }); </script> However, rather than duplicating the original dropdown, it causes it to disappear! What am I doing wrong?

    - by jp577
Hi I'm trying to get a PHP array to use in some jquery script using the qTip plugin. This is my array: $descqtip[ ] = array('name' => ''.$name.'', 'description' => ''.$description.''); Here is my jquery code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var description = <?php echo json_encode($descqtip)?>; $('#homepage_catgames h2').each(function(i){ $(this).qtip({ content: description }) }); }); </script> I know the above doesn't work, but i'm stuck on trying to get the description variable in each part of the array to their own individual tooltip. Can anyone help me? Thanks

  • Is there an editor that shows WYSIWYG comments?

    - by Bráulio Bezerra
Has anyone seen an editor/IDE that shows WYSIWYG comments inside the code? I have seen some that show the docs of an element in a separated tab/windows, but not together with code. For example, a JavaDoc comment would be much clearer and easier to edit if it had no tags and could be edited like a snippet from a normal text document. /** * Writes <code>Hello world!</code> to the <b>standard output</b>. * @seealso showGoodbye */ public static void showHello() { Could be something like this: /* Writes Hello world! to the standard output. See also: showGoodbye() */ public static void showHello() { but, editable, of course. And for anyone who happens to have some knowledge/experience with open IDEs like Eclipse, Netbeans, etc.: would it be too hard to implement this?

  • Why do firefox/chrome show a different page than IE8?

    - by Edward Tanguay
When I look at this published Google Docs document, I see the latest version with Firefox and Chrome, but an older version with IE8. Also, screen-scraping it via PHP/Curl gives me an older version. I've tried CTRL-Refresh in IE8 but I can't get it to show me the newest version. No matter what headers I try to change in PHP/Curl, I can't get it to show me the newest version. What am I not understanding about browsers/headers/caching here? How can it be that different browsers show different contents of one page?

  • Problems with a from CSS

    - by Michael
    I am trying to create a fairly basic form with in my maincontent. I am sure I am coding things incorrectly and it is driving me crazy. Note my code. I get extremely wide vertical spacing in IE 7 and the bacground color between the field sets does not work correctly. All is good in FF. My CSS is: fieldset { margin: 1.5em 0 0 0; padding: 0; border-style: none; border-top: 1px solid #BFBAB0; background-color: #FFFFFF; } legend { margin-left: 1em; color: #000000; font-weight: bold; } fieldset ol { padding: 1em 1em 0 1em; list-style: none; } fieldset li { padding-bottom: 1em; } fieldset.submit { border-style: none; } { var w = document.myform.mylist.selectedIndex; var selected_text = document.myform.mylist.options[w].text; alert(selected_text); } label em { display: block; color: #900; font-size: 85%; font-style: normal; text-transform: uppercase; } This is my html code. <div id="mainContent1"> <form name="myform"> <label for="mylist"><strong>Select an Account Type:</strong></label> <select name="mylist"><option value="traditional">Traditional Account</option> <option value="paperless">Paperless Account</option> </select> </form> <br /><a> </a> <form action="example.php"> <fieldset> <legend>Contact Details</legend> <ol> <li> <label for="name">Name:</label> <input id="name" name="name" class="text" type="text" /> <label for="name"> <em>required</em> </label> </li> <li> <label for="email">Email address:</label> <input id="email" name="email" class="text" type="text" /> <label for="name"> <em>required</em> </li> <li> <label for="phone">Telephone:</label> <input id="phone" name="phone" class="text" type="text" /> <label for="name"> <em>required</em> <ol> <li> <input id="option1" name="option1" class="checkbox" type="checkbox" value="1" /> <label for="option1">Savings</label> </li> <li> <input id="option2" name="option2" class="checkbox" type="checkbox" value="1" /> <label for="option2">Checkings</label> </li> </ol> </fieldset> <fieldset> <legend>Delivery Address</legend> <ol> <li> <label for="address1">Address 1:</label> <input id="address1" name="address1" class="text" type="text" /> </li> <li> <label for="city">City:</label> <input id="city" name="city" class="text" type="text" /> </li> <li> <label for="postcode">Zip Code:</label> <input id="postcode" name="postcode" class="text textSmall" type="text" /> </li> <li> <label for="country">Country:</label> <input id="country" name="country" class="text" type="text" /> </li> </ol> </fieldset> <fieldset class="submit"> <input class="submit" type="submit" value="Submit" /> </fieldset> <fieldset class="clear"> <input class="clear" type="clear" value="Submit" /> </fieldset> </form>

  • Is the F# language reference documentation available in an offline format (PDF, CHM)?

    - by stakx
I've found several posts on hubFS of people asking if there is, or will be, offline documentation for F#. These posts haven't been answered. So I want to give it a shot and ask the same question here on SO. Where I've looked for offline documentation so far: The April 2010 CTP release of Visual F# (version 2.0) is available for VS 2008, but it doesn't come without an offline help. There's a question on SO about offline documentation for various programming languages, but F# isn't mentioned there at the time of this writing. There is of course Microsoft's F# language reference documentation (available on MSDN), which could be downloaded for offline browsing using e.g. wget. Question: Does anyone know whether any "official" offline documentation is on the way, anytime soon? (And related to this, albeit this probably can't be answered objectively: Would it be reasonable to expect that F# likely won't undergo ECMA or ISO standardization, ie. there likely won't be a standards document describing the language?)

  • Documenting and defining content types for a CMS or similar project

    - by Rimian
I'm writing up some documentation on a Drupal project and my task is to define the content types and their attributes. The intended audience is project managers and developers. So it could be a high level document that gives an overview of the system. (I think that's how I describe it: high level rather than high detail) At the moment I'm using open office and bullet points but it seems like an amateurish method when I need to describe details that could be useful for a developer (me). Something like UML would describe detail but is probably more complicated than I need right now and could be too technical for others on the team. Are there any universal methods or templates that I can use to describe information in this case?

  • Content pulled in via jQuery AJAX is not associating with previous functions

    - by Jarsen
    I'm using the jquery .load() function to pull in data to populate a div with. The content I'm pulling in has CSS selectors that should match up with jQuery click functions I've written. However, when I load in the data, although the correct CSS selectors are there, when I click on areas that should invoke a response from jQuery, nothing happens. Do I need to do some sort of reload? Here's the code I've got for the jQuery AJAX: $(document).ready(function() { // AJAX functionality for drupal nodes $(".ajax_node").click(function() { var ajax_src = $(this).attr("href"); // we're gonna load the href // empty target div and load in content // the space in the string before the #id is necessary $("#ajax_area").empty().load(ajax_src + " #ajax_wrapper"); return false; // stops the link from following through }); // General AJAX fucntionality $(".ajax").click(function() { var ajax_src = $(this).attr("href"); $("#ajax_area").empty().load(ajax_src); return false; }); });

  • Parsing an Open XML doc via styled blocks

    - by Chris B. Behrens
I'm working with docx docs, and I need to parse a document into sections on the basis of headings styled with the "heading 1" style. So if I had a doc like this (markup is pseudocode): <doc> <title style>Doc Title</title style> <heading1>First Section</heading1> ... <heading2>Second Section</heading2> ... <heading3>Third Section</heading3> ... </doc> I'd want to break this into a doc with four sections, the first being the content that precedes the first section. I figure that this is probably pretty simple once you're familiar with Open XML, but I am not. TIA.
