  A side effect of changes in NetBeans Platform 7.1 in the NetBeans window system is that palettes can now be created for view TopComponents. • Can't ping external websites

  I can't ping google.com with my virtual ubuntu 12.04 server. I have set up a proxy URL in my /etc/apt/apt.conf file and it says Aquire::http::proxy http://urlname.com:9999; Now, I don't know a lot about how the proxy works, but I do know when we use it on windows VMachines it's a pac script that we place in internet explorer LAN settings and it automatically detects the script and gives internet access. I tried including the 9999/proxy.pac in the apt.conf URL and it didn't seem to work any better. Would ubuntu know how to handle a proxy.pac assuming it was created for windows? Should my URL include the .pac or just end after the port numbers? I've tried both without sucess, but I would like to know. A quick test to ping a fellow co-workers' PC was sucessful. So I can see network computers, but not google. or other internet sources.

  I have a Lucene index that has several documents in it. Each document has multiple fields such as: Id Project Name Description The Id field will be a unique identifier such as a GUID, Project is a user's ProjectID and a user can only view documents for their project, and Name and Description contain text that can have special characters. When a user performs a search on the Name field, I want to be able to attempt to match the best I can such as: First Will return both: First.Last and First.Middle.Last Name can also be something like: Test (NameTest) Where, if a user types in 'Test', 'Name', or '(NameTest)', then they can find the result. However, if I say that Project is 'ProjectA' then that needs to be an exact match (case insensitive search). The same goes with the Id field. Which fields should I set up as Tokenized and which as Untokenized? Also, is there a good Analyzer I should consider to make this happen? I am stuck trying to decide the best route to implement the desired searching.

We're actively developing a new product and as such we often have additions or changes to our DB schema. We also have many copies of the DB -- one for the test environment, one for the prod environment, dev environments, you name it. We don't really want to have to blow away test data every time we want to make a change to the DB. Are there good ways of automating this or handling this? None of us have really ever had to deal with this so...

• PHP: Do we have any command via which we can delete the contents of an file without opening it.

  Is there any way to remove the contents of an file in php, do we have any php command that does that, I know unlink but I do not want to delete the file instead I just want to remove the contents of that file. I have an file which I pass while called a getCurrentDBSnap function, it takes in the file from /home/test/incoming folder and populates currentDB table state into the file using fputcsv and puts back file to /home/test/outgoing. Currently file stays in incoming folder and when I can call the function getCurrentDBSnap it would take the file and override with latest state of DB into it. Q: My question is, is it possible instead of overwriting the file, we can remove the content of file after ever getCurrentDBSnap such that file in incoming folder would be always empty ? Hope it makes sense :)

  At my work place, we use an external client's web application monitor and respond to support tickets of our clients. the problem with that application is that it does not house a field to enter the actual effort (hours worked on a particular ticket) to be stored in the database. What is needed to write a plug-in for Internet Explorer that would get triggered on a button click on a certain webpage and save some data in an external database? That is, if the support personnel is closing the ticket after resolving it, is it possible to invoke that plugin that asks the personnel to enter the effort spent on that ticket and store it in an external database? We can't modify the web application as it is vendor supplied and not an in-house product.

• Maven downloads have .lastUpdated as extension

  I am a beginner to Eclipse and maven. I have an Eclipse setup with m2eclipse and subversive. I have imported a maven2 project from svn. But I get the error message that a whole bunch of artifacts are missing (for instance: Missing artifact org.springframework:spring-test:jar:3.0.1.RELEASE:test). If I look in my repository I see the jar files there but they have an extra extension .lastUpdated. Why is maven appending .lastUpdated to the jars? And more importantly: how can I fix this? Btw there is no mention of the type lastUpdated in my POMs.

• Template function as a template argument

  I've just got confused how to implement something in a generic way in C++. It's a bit convoluted, so let me explain step by step. Consider such code: void a(int) { // do something } void b(int) { // something else } void function1() { a(123); a(456); } void function2() { b(123); b(456); } void test() { function1(); function2(); } It's easily noticable that function1 and function2 do the same, with the only different part being the internal function. Therefore, I want to make function generic to avoid code redundancy. I can do it using function pointers or templates. Let me choose the latter for now. My thinking is that it's better since the compiler will surely be able to inline the functions - am I correct? Can compilers still inline the calls if they are made via function pointers? This is a side-question. OK, back to the original point... A solution with templates: void a(int) { // do something } void b(int) { // something else } template<void (*param)(int) > void function() { param(123); param(456); } void test() { function<a>(); function<b>(); } All OK. But I'm running into a problem: Can I still do that if a and b are generics themselves? template<typename T> void a(T t) { // do something } template<typename T> void b(T t) { // something else } template< ...param... > // ??? void function() { param<SomeType>(someobj); param<AnotherType>(someotherobj); } void test() { function<a>(); function<b>(); } I know that a template parameter can be one of: a type, a template type, a value of a type. None of those seems to cover my situation. My main question is hence: How do I solve that, i.e. define function() in the last example? (Yes, function pointers seem to be a workaround in this exact case - provided they can also be inlined - but I'm looking for a general solution for this class of problems).

  I am looking out for a strategy to utilize multithreading (probably asynchronous delegates) to do a synchronous operation. I am new to multithreading so i will outline my scenario first. This synchronous operation right now is done for one set of data (portfolio) based on the the parameters provided. The (psudeo-code) implementation is given below: public DataSet DoTests(int fundId, DateTime portfolioDate) { // Get test results for the portfolio // Call the database adapter method, which in turn is a stored procedure, // which in turns runs a series of "rule" stored procs and fills a local temp table and returns it back. DataSet resultsDataSet = GetTestResults(fundId, portfolioDate); try { // Do some local processing on the results DoSomeProcessing(resultsDataSet); // Save the results in Test, TestResults and TestAllocations tables in a transaction. // Sets a global transaction which is provided to all the adapter methods called below // It is defined in the Base class StartTransaction("TestTransaction"); // Save Test and get a testId int testId = UpdateTest(resultsDataSet); // Adapter method, uses the same transaction // Update testId in the other tables in the dataset UpdateTestId(resultsDataSet, testId); // Update TestResults UpdateTestResults(resultsDataSet); // Adapter method, uses the same transaction // Update TestAllocations UpdateTestAllocations(resultsDataSet); // Adapter method, uses the same transaction // It is defined in the base class CommitTransaction("TestTransaction"); } catch { RollbackTransaction("TestTransaction"); } return resultsDataSet; } Now the requirement is to do it for multiple set of data. All the underlying database tables, procedures are the same for each call of DoTests(). (obviously). Thus my question are: Will using multithreading anyway improve performance? What are the chances of deadlock especially when new TestId's are being created and the Tests, TestResults and TestAllocations are being saved? How can these deadlocked be handled? Is there any other more efficient way of doing the above operation apart from looping over the DoTests() method repeatedly?

  So...I'm trying to get unit tests set up in my iPhone App but I'm having some issues. I'm trying to test my model classes but they inherit directly from NSManagedObject. I'm sure this is a problem but I don't know how to get around it. Everything is building and running as expected but I get this error when calling any method on the class I'm testing: Unknown.m:0:0 unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xc2b120 If I follow this structure (http://chanson.livejournal.com/115621.html) to create my object in my tests I end up with another error entirely but it still doesn't help me. Basically my question is this: how can I test a class that inherits from NSManagedObject?

• Disabling multitasking on iPhone 3GS using UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend not working

  Hello I am developing an iPhone app where I don’t want/need the multitasking capability and I want my app to initiate every time I open it. I have set the UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend property in the info.plist and it does work when I test it on my iPhone 4 and in the simulator (which is also an ”iPhone 4”). The app calls applicationDidEnterBackground followed by applicationWillTerminate. However, when testing it on my wifes iPhone 3GS the property seems to be completely ignored and the program gets suspended/resumed. Both phones are running iOS 4.2.1. Someone has also confirmed this issue in another thread, with no solutions unfortunately: iPhone: how to test if UIApplicationExitsOnSuspend is working? Is there something I am missing to make this work? Any other ways to accomplish this? Thanx in advance

• Why is conversion from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1 not the same in Windows and Linux?

  I have the following in code to convert from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1 in a jar file and when I execute this jar in Windows I get one result and in CentOS I get another. • Issues with Firefox 3.6 & SWFObject 2.2

  I've searched the net for a solution but still haven't found one yet. I'm on Mac OSX and I use FlashBuilder. I try to publish a movie with the values of 100% for the width & the height. These are the values I use both in SWFObject and the CSS. Flash doesn't display in Firefox but displays on Opera, Chrome & Safari. SWFObject test suite displays fine though! I've tried to replicate the test suite settings but it doesn't work :( The only way I can get the movie to display in Firefox is by setting the height value to a fixed pixel size in the flash content div, which defeats the purpose of using percentage values in the first place :) I've tried most recommendations such as putting the script in the head tag as well as a few others but nothing works except setting a fixed height size in the CSS. Help would be most appreciated! ;)

It seems like it should be simple because I can't find anyone else with this issue but I can't figure out to send basic data via javascript(jQuery) to PHP and decode it. For the sake of simplicity, this is what I have: JAVASCRIPT var json_data = { "name" : "john doe" }; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "../bin/process.php", dataType: "json", data: json_data }); and my PHP FILE $arr = json_decode("json_data", true); $fp = fopen('data.txt', "w"); fwrite($fp, $arr['name']); fclose($fp); The file I'm writing ends up with nothing in it. If I do an: fwrite($fp, 'test'); I get a file with the word test in it but no matter what I do I don't get the json data I sent. Can someone please share a thorough example of A to Z.
