• Struts2 JPA Validation error how to forward to action and not lose ActionErrors messages ?

  I'm using Hibernate validator 4.1 to validate my entity. I have a dashboard that I can access from the action : viewDashboard. • Has anyone managed to get jdotnetservices working on Android ?

  I am trying to use jdotnetservices (http://www.jdotnetservices.com/), which is a java SDK for Windows Azure AppFabric, in an Android application. I have had to make some tweaks but only minor ones because jdotnetservices is written to target Java 1.6 and Android uses 1.5. I can get it to compile and run OK but I'm getting errors when I try to access the service bus ACS. Specifically, if I try to get a token from the service bus ACS I get this : Hostname mysolution-sb.accesscontrol.windows.net was not verified. Can anyone give me some pointers as to why this might be ? I can browse to the url of the ACS from Android : https://mysolution-sb.accesscontrol.windows.net/wrapv0.9 which gives me a certificate error, could this be why ? Any way round this ?

• An alternative to multiple inheritance when creating an abstraction layer?

  In my project I am creating an abstraction layer for some APIs. The purpose of the layer is to make multi-platform easier, and also to simplify the APIs to the feature set that I need while also providing some functionality, the implementation of which will be unique to each platform. At the moment, I have implemented it by defining and abstract class, which has methods which creates objects that implement interfaces. The abstract class and these interfaces define the capabilities of my abstraction layer. The implementation of these in my layer should of course be arbitrary from the POV view of my application, but I have done it, for my first API, by creating chains of subclasses which add more specific functionality as the features of the APIs they expose become less generic. The thing is though, I don't like using interfaces for this; it seems wrong, in my mind an interface defines a contract, any class that implements that interface should be able to be used where that interface is used but here that is clearly not the case because the interfaces are being used to allow an object from the layer to masquerade as something else, without the application needing to have access to its definition. What technique would allow me to define a comprehensive, intuitive collection of objects for an abstraction layer, while their implementation remains independent? (Language is C#)

• Cleaning a dataset of song data - what sort of problem is this?

  I have a set of data about songs. Each entry is a line of text which includes the artist name, song title, and some extra text. Some entries are only "extra text". My goal is to resolve as many of these as possible to songs on Spotify using their web API. My strategy so far has been to search for the entry via the API - if there are no results, apply a transformation such as "remove all text between ( )" and search again. I have a list of heuristics and I've had reasonable success with this but as the code gets more and more convoluted I keep thinking there must be a more generic and consistent way. I don't know where to look - any suggestions for what to try, topics to study, buzzwords to google?

  How can I turn off the PCI slots and change the device (especially NIC) without shutting the server down? • Analysis Services with excel as front end - is it possible to get the nicer UI that powerpivot provi

  I have been looking into PowerPivot and concluded that for "self service BI" and ahoc buidling of cubes it has its uses. In particular I like the enhanced UI that you get from using PowerPivot rather than just using a PivotTable hooked up to an analysis services datasource. However it seems that hooking up PowerPivot to an existing analysis services cube is not a solution for "organisational BI". It is not always desireable to suck millions of rows into excel at once and the interface between PowerPivot and analysis services is very poor in my book. Hence the question is can an existing analysis services solution get the enhanced ui features that power pivot brings, withoout using powerpivot as the design tool? If powerpivot is aimed ad self service/personal BI then it seems bizare that the UI for this is better than for bigger/more costly analysis services solutions.

• Caching for a Custom Repositiory Adapter for WebSphere Portal Virtual Member Manager

  I'm looking at writing a custom repository adapter to interact with Virtual Member Manager on WebSphere Portal 6.1. Basically, its a layer that takes a request in the form of a commonj.sco.DataObject and passes that on to an external web service, to get various information on our logged in users that is not otherwise available in LDAP. I'm concerned about the performance hit of going to a service every time we want to pull some permission from the back end. My question is, can the Virtual Member Manager handle caching of data going in and out of the custom repository adapters, or is that something I'm going to have to build into the adapter myself?

  Hello, I am runninig test's with Python Unittest. I am running tests but I want to do negative testing and I would like to test if a function throw's an exception, it passes but if no exception is thrown the test fail's. The script I have is: try: result = self.client.service.GetStreamUri(self.stream, self.token) self.assertFalse except suds.WebFault, e: self.assertTrue else: self.assertTrue This alway's passes as True even when the function work's perfectly.   Trying to firgure out how to test the security of a WebService. Is there some way to search a site for webservices? I have 2 applications one has a webservice and the other a reference to that service. I let visual studio build the reference in the App_WebReferences folder. The webservice works, but i started wondering, can anyone access this service from any website? If so, how can i test this? How do you search a site for webservices? Could I use jQuery/JSON code from a simple site to access a webservice? I guess if it is not secure, how do you secure a webservice?

  I have a duplex Wcf service and I'd like to get a reference to IDuplexChannel, IDuplexSessionChannel or IOutputChannel so that I can use the non-blocking BeginSend method. On my server, inside of the handler for the initiating method I have the following (I have tried every interface that I listed in place of IOutputChannel. None of them seem to exist.) _clientCb = OperationContext.Current.GetCallbackChannel<IDxClientCb>(); _channel = OperationContext.Current.Channel; _duplexChannel = _channel as IOutputChannel; Debug.Print("Service IOutputChannel null: {0}", _duplexChannel == null); Similarly, in the client I have tried to cast the return value of DuplexChannelFactory.CreateChannel() to any of these interfaces and I always get back a null. How do I get a reference to one of these?

• Mouse and keyboard stop working after suspend or screensaver lock

  If I leave the computer and let it run into screensaver and lock the screen, the mouse left click won't go back to work. If I suspend the computer, the keyboard won't get back to work. It started after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04. Any tips to solve this problem? • Websphere Java application startup

  I have two Java applications running on a Websphere application server. The first application is COTS software (Plateau) I will call App1 and includes an API which can be used in custom applications to interact with App1. This app takes a couple minutes to start in Websphere. The second application is custom software I will call App2 and is deployed as a web service which utilizes the App1 API to interact with App1; so it is dependent on App1. This app takes just seconds to start in Websphere. I run into a problem in certain App1 functionality when we bounce Websphere and the App2 web service is called by a client before the App1 application has fully started. Is there a way I can delay App2 from starting until App1 is fully started in Websphere? Is there a way to design App2 to programmatically check that App1 is available before it attempts to use the API?

  I am a student and I have made websites for some companies before but now I would like to make a generic website for myself but dont know how to get started as I never had to deal with hosting or bandwidth before. I am looking to make a website that will provide users with information about me. In the future I might add things such as ordering or buying products but for now the idea is to provide information only. I was told not to go for any webhoster outside of Canada as I might risk the confidential integrity of my users or myself. I have no idea where to get started or what I need. I now also have to deal with possible security issues or security holes I may leave in my website creation...   hi, i am making a database for an accounting/sales type system similar to a car sales database and would like to make some transactions for the following real world actions salesman creates new product shipped onto floor (itempk, car make, year, price).   salesman changes price.   salesman creates sale entry for product sold (salespk, itemforeignkey, price sold, salesman).   salesman cancels item for removed product.   salesman cancels sale for cancelled sale    the examples i have found online are too generic...like this is a transaction... i would like something resembling what i am trying to do to understand it.  anybody have some good similar or related sql examples i can look at to design these? do people use transactions for sales databases?  or if you have done this kind of sql transaction before could you make an outline for how these could be made?  thanks  my thread so far on stack overflow... http://stackoverflow.com/q/4975484/613799

• What's a good starting point to learn about JIT compilers?

  I've spent the past few months learning about stack based virtual machines, parsers, compilers, and some elementary things about hardware architecture. I've also written a few parsers and compilers for C like languages to understand the generic parser/compiler pipeline. Now I'd like to take my understanding further by learning about optimizing compilers and JIT compilers but I'm having a hard time finding material at the right level. I don't yet understand enough to dive into a code base like PyPy or LuaJIT but I also know more than what most introductory compiler books have to offer. So what are some good books for an intermediate beginner like to me to look into?

• Deploying Multiple Environments in Spring-MVC

  Currently all web apps are deployed using seperate config files: <!-- <import bean.... production/> --> <import bean... development/> This has disadvantages, even if you only need to swap out one config file, that I'm sure everyone is familiar with (wondering what just deployed without searching through XML is one of them) I want to add Logging to my application that basically says 'RUNNING IN PRODUCTION MODE', with a description of the services deployed and what mode they are working in. RUNNING IN PRODUCTION MODE Client Service - Production Messaging Service - Local and so on... Is this possible in Spring using a conventional deployment (putting a war on a server)? What other things do people do to manage deployments and software configurations? If not, what other ways could you achieve something similar?

  Hi, company where I applied for a job requires a very detailed CV mainly of programming languages, frameworks, technology. My CV have 3 pages but for this company is not enough detailed. ;) What structure have your CV in programming languages, frameworks, technology, third-party libraries? Any sample of good structured CV. (as pdf file) Of course I had used the google but I found a dozen same old things. I would like have someting orignal and fresh. Any inspiration? I do not know what to write for example C #. C# OOP, delagate, event, generic, LINQ other WPF control, data template, converter, style, triggers..? Prims, Caliburn, MEF ? Also which skills from OS, IDE, util is suitably to have in CV. I would’t have a 10 pages CV or have bad and immense structure of CV. Sory for my english

• Retrieving values from WSDL before making a request

  I'm very new to working with web services and I'm trying to understand the basics of it in Android using the ksoap2 library. Here's the question: this is the WSDL file of a service I'm using. It's a service that converts values between different units. The units are stated in the WSDL. Now, is there any way to read those units and, say, populate a Spinner to let users choose the units they want to work with? A code solution will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
