• How to handle possible duplicate content across multiple sites?

  Let's say I have two sites that cover the same vertical/topic. one in the USA and one in Canada. Both sites have local-related content, which is obviously unique by location. However they will share common news or blog pages. How do I avoid getting hit with duplicate content on both sites for those news/blog pages? If the content is exactly the same, I'm guessing I would have to pick which site's content I want to noindex,nofollow, is that correct, and if so, is that all I have to add on the URL links to those pages, and the pages' meta tags?

• how to save a png as a smaller file but the same resolution?

  not sure what stackexchange site is the best for this question. I have a scanned jpg file with below properties and size 8.5MB pixel dimension: 2468 × 3484 pixels print size: 208.96 × 294.98 millimeters resolution: 300 × 300 ppi I need to save the file as png while the size cannot be bigger than 4MB. The most important is that the size of picture must remain the same. I mean that the object size in the picture must stay the same. Could anybody tell me what is used to define the size of the objects in the picture?

• What is the proper way to setup Google Apps email accounts for a subdomain?

  Let's say I've registered domain.com at enom and set it up to use Google Apps for email by rerouting DNS to enom's servers and editing the MX records there. That works flawlessly. Now let's say I want to have email at a subdomain for that same site. I already have a working subdomain at the host, but I want to catch email traffic at enom before it gets that far. I've set up Google Apps as a new account for the subdomain, successfully verified domain ownership, and now they want me to update MX records. What's the right format? For domain.com, I just put @ for the hostname, and then provided the Address and Pref values that Google gave me. I tried putting subdomain.domain.com as new values under hostname for the subdomain, but that doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

• Spam link text when searching for company directors' name

  It was brought to my attention that if you search for the name of one of our directors (with the intent to find there profile page on our site) They come up as the first link in most search engines as you would expect but the link text is just pure spam. the three search string I have tested on Google, Bing, Ask, and Yahoo have all returned similar results.   I don't know the proper name for this, which makes it hard to Google it or describe this. On a site like http://p2theme.com/ as you scroll down you see that content is arranged into screen-sized chunks, each with its own chunk of content, each with a different background color, making them visually distinctive. I've seen this used more and more frequently on websites, but don't know what it's called. People have tried telling me "responsive design" or "flat UI" or "infinite scroll" or "parallax" -- but those are completely different things. What do you call this technique?

• How do I verify the ownership of a domain from Namecheap to use Google Apps?

  I registered a domain with Namecheap.com, and started the Google Apps registration process. After the initial data filling, google apps wishes me to prove the ownership of a domain, and has given me 4 choices: Add a DNS record to your domain's configuration Link to your Google Analytics account Upload an HTML file to your server Add a meta tag to your site's home page What is the differences between these, and how do I (if someone knows perhaps how to do it on Namecheap, it would be even better) complete this step in the process? • Analyze Drupal and Wordpress sites CPU load in shared server

  Our hosting company is complaining that both our Drupal and Wordpress websites running in a shared server are consuming too many CPU resources. The traffic for each site is not more than 100 users per day and, at a first glance, we don't have very many plugins/add-ons. Is there any tool or resource to analyse what is causing that high CPU load? Thanks Update: We decided to suspend our accounts while the problem was being debugged but still our hosting (Site5) said that they saw unacceptable activity on our sites so we had to move to a dedicated server... asked them several times to provide us with more information and they always came back saying that we had to purchase a higher account. Finally decided to move to another hosting service.

• Move website from host a to host b without down time dns change

  I would like to move my website from host A to host B I have uploaded a copy of my site to the new host, while keeping the old copy in place with the old host I will need to update the nameservers to point to the new nameservers. I'll want to change the DNS settings of domain name to point to new host b To avoid down time for the DNS change to propagate through the net, can I add the old nameservers and new nameservers together without causing problems, or must I delete the old nameservers first?   We have a global site, all hosted on one .com domain (www.website.com/en www.website.com/es www.website.com/pt www.website.com/ru etc) each language sub directory is identical to one another (apart from being in different languages) My question is, should I translate each meta keyword for each page or just use the english versions? e.g. English page about private jets : keyword "private jet" French version of exactly the same page : keyword "private jet" or "jet privé" If anyone knows whether language specific keywords carry any weight in search engines when the actual website is a .com and not a country specific domain, that would be really helpful! • Why are the colors worse on Ubuntu 12.04 than on Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio E-Series?

  The colours look "lacking" and ever slightly blueish and rather washed-out and lacking in dimension. Graphics are ok - this page for example looks fine - but if I view something like a news site with high quality photos, the experience is not optimal and is noticeably inferior to Windows 7. Oddly, when I install Ubuntu as a VM on VirtualBox in Windows, the colours look as I expect them to. It's only on my dual-boot version of Ubuntu that they look wrong (not Wubi, although a previous Wubi-based installation had the same problem). Now, I have the proprietary ATI driver and I can use amdcccle to get the colours closer to what they should be, but I can't seem to do anything about colour depth. The depth settings in Xorg are all 24. I tried changing all three mentions of 24 to 32 but was forced into safety mode. Fortunately, I remembered where I'd been tinkering and got the file set back to 24.

  Actually i am running website on wordpress where i have installed Transposh plugin on my site 'example'. Unfortunately, despite having English as the default language and therefore available at example.com/xxx, Google is indexing example.com/en/xxx so i m getting problem with duplicate content now i want to remove this plugin and links from google so that my content will be refine without getting duplicate content pages. Do you have any solution to do this safely. I think myself to remove this plugin from website, though it will create 404 errors from google links but i can add redirect code in htaccess till google would remove that "example.com/en/xxx " not found links. If you know any other healthy way to handle this please help me!

• Do Google's feed statistics include former users?

  I'm currently not using any sort of fancy stat tracking software such as feedburner, but I occasionally look at Google's stats in their Webmaster Tools just to get a rough idea of whether the number of subscribers is going up or down. This only gives the number of users subscribed through Google products, as they explain in their help documents: Subscriber stats display the number of Google users who have subscribed to your feeds using any Google product (such as Reader, iGoogle, or Orkut). Because users can subscribe to feeds using many different aggregators or RSS readers, the actual number of subscribers to your site may be higher. I used to use Google Reader very regularly but haven't opened it in a while now. The way I understand it, this will mean that even though I haven't touched any of those feeds in a long time I'm still technically subscribed to them and will therefore be included in Google's statistic. Is this correct? Also since Google runs Feedburner, does this have any effect on their stats as well?
