  • Why does update-grub not find ubuntu 11.10?

    I've recently installed ubuntu onto my laptop. With the intention of dual booting with windows 7. On installation Grub wasn't loading, the computer continued to boot straight into windows. I loaded a live cd, mounted the installed ubuntu partion (sda6) as /mnt/ and windows boot partition as /mnt/boot Following the second option here: http://ubuntuguide.net/how-to-restore-grub-2-after-reinstalling-windows-xpvistawin7 Through its entirety, so creating a new grub.cfg file. chroot /mnt update-grub Did not find ubuntu, just windows 7 and the windows recovery partition. Thinking this might be a weird quirk that as I was in ubuntu (all be it a live cd) it might not list ubuntu I restarted. Grub loaded but ubuntu was nowhere to be seen. How can I add ubuntu with Grub2? I could have fixed this myself in old grub but I'm pretty much in the dark here. Thanks

  • Dell M6800 with Windos 8.1 on part-1, cannot run if Ubuntu and Fedora are 2nd and 3rd OSsen?

    On a Dell M6800 machine that has Windows 8 pre-installed, I upgraded to 8.1, then I loaded Ubuntu 14.04 then Fedora 20 the only way I could, that is in "Legacy" BIOS Mode. BTW the Ubuntu install was unable to complete but Fedora did, and left all working, 2 bootable OSsen, with Grub2 from Fedora doing the boots, but Windows 8.1 is now "invisible". I have run Boot-Repair but info is not useful. It tells me to switch to UEFI which, on M6800, doesn't work with this (too long-winded to explain why here). I need to have the Grub2 configs "see" the original Windows 8.1 partition, with BIOS switched to "Legacy". BTW various posts have said make switch to UEFI to boot from, say, USB-stick or DVD; this is wrong, you can't - UEFI mode only allows boot from the Windows partition, which it says has a Windows 8.1 on it, which doesn't boot. Basically, if you have actually succeeded in loading Ubuntu 14.04 or Fedora 20 on an M6800, which comes with pre-loaded Windows 8, you will know how I fix this.

  • Exchange 2010 Discovery Search Fails

    When ever I run an Exchange 2010 SP1 Discovery Search I get the following error: "Search failed as the results link to the target mailbox '[email protected]' couldn't be generated." I have checked to ensure the discovery mailbox is enabled I created a new Discovery mailbox. I get the same error with both Mailboxes. The user account I am using to run the search is a member of the "Discovery Management" security group. I get the same error whether I use the Shell or the ECP to run the search

  • Google Analytics - Traffic Source - Search engine - (Not Provided)

    I am using Google Analytics, now here when I go to "Traffic Source Overview" under that it shows Keyword as "(Not provided)" which is almost 40% of my traffic source. Now more than 90% of search engine traffic is from Google and still out of that for more than 40% of keywords are "(Not provided)". Can anyone explain me what is going wrong here or how can I get that data? Because that comes as 1st option and is biggest keyword in the list. Will that be some crawler or secure google search?

I don't have a lot of requirements other than what I mentioned above. I never used Linux before but I doubt I'll ever need to do anything beyond tampering with my account.   • Windows Phone 8 Launch Event Summary

    Today was the official coming out party for Windows Phone 8.  Below is a summary of the launch event.  There is a lot here to stay with me. They started with a commercial staring Joe Belfiore show how his Windows Phone 8 was personal too him which highlights something I think Microsoft has done well over the last couple of event: spotlight how Windows Phone is a different experience from other smartphones.  Joe actually called iPhone and Android “tired old metaphors" and explained that the idea around Windows Phone was to “reinvent the smartphone around you” as “the most personal smartphone operating system”.  The is the message that they need to drive home in their adds. The only real technical aspect we found out was that they have optimized the operating system around the dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip set.  It seems like all of the other hardware goodies had already been announced.  The remainder of the event was centered around new features of the OS and app announcements. So what are we getting?  The integrated features included lock screen live tile, Data Sense, Rooms and Kids corner.  There wasn’t a lot of information about it, but Joe also talked about apps not just having live tiles, but being live apps that could integrate with wallet and the hub. The lock screen will now be able to be personalized with live tile data or even a photo slide show.  This gives the lock screen an even better ability to give you the information you want to know before you even unlock the phone. The Kids Corner allows you as a parent to setup an area on your phone that you kids can go into an use it without disturbing your apps.  They can play games or use apps that you have designated and will only see those apps.  It even has a special lock screen gesture just for the kids corner. Rooms allow you to organize your phone around the groups of people in your life.  You get a shared calendar, a room wall as well as shared notes beyond just being able to send messages to a group.  You can also invite people not on the Windows Phone platform to access an online version of the room. Data Sense is a new feature that gives you better control and understanding of your data plan usage.  You can see which applications are using data and it can automatically adjust they way your phone behaves as you get close to your data limit. Add to these features the fact that the entire Windows ecosystem is integrated with SkyDrive and you have an available anywhere experience that is unequaled by any other platform.  Your document, photos and music are available on your Windows Phone, Window 8 device and Xbox.  SkyDrive also doesn’t limit how long you can keep files like the competing cloud platforms and give more free storage. It was interesting the way they made the launch event more personal.  First Joe brought out his own kids to demo the Kids Corner.  They followed this up by bringing out Jessica Alba to discuss her experience on the Windows Phone 8.  They need to keep putting a face on the product instead of just showing features as a cold list. Then we get to apps.  We knew that the new Skype was coming, but we found out that it was created in such a way that it can receive calls without running consistently in the background which would eat up battery.  This announcement was follow by the coming Facebook app that is optimized for Windows Phone 8.  As a matter of fact they indicated that just after launch the marketplace would have 46 out of the top 50 apps used by all smartphone platforms.  In a rational world this tide with over 120,000 apps currently in the marketplace there should be no more argument about the Windows Phone ecosystem. For those of us who develop for Windows Phone and weren’t on the early adoption program will finally get access to the SDK tomorrow after an announcement at Build (more waiting).  Perhaps we will get a few new features then.   • Dash search does not show applications

    Since the upgrade (actually a fresh install) to 13.10, many times, when I open Dash and search for an application I only get results for files and folders. Sometimes I get some applications but not others. I haven't found a pattern to replicate the issue 100%. If I open the application lens and search again, it works as it should. So many times, to launch an application, I have to use the super + a key combination to open the application scope instead of the simply the super key. It is annoying. Did anyone have the same issue? I searched for bugs on launchpad but didn't find any. I didn't open a bug report yet because it is not clear how to reproduce the problem faithfully. Even more importantly, does anyone have a solution to this issue?

  • How to remove "Search and launch"?

    Is it possible to remove the "Search and launch" whateveritis from my "desktop"? I've actually tried both Desktop and Netbook modes, but it stays there in both of them. I'm not afraid of editing files in the ~/.kde dir, but I would be really disappointed if this is the only way to do it. [more details/rants] I was able to wipe out several things but I've ended up with a black window that's movable (Alt-click) but not removable. Beside being surprised by the performances, I find Kubuntu extremely unfriendly, and I can't find the logic behind the items of the interface. I've tried to search for documentation, but what I've found is not updated and doesn't include the Netbook interface.

I've been testing crossbrowser on my windows PC, and it looks good in all browsers, but on Mac in Safari it looks like the CSS is not getting interpreted right, or there is a critical javascript error. When I look in the console cross-browser, the error log shows exactly the same. Chrome on mac interprets the site as intended, so why do I have a problem with safari. It is the same across different computers, and iphone safari also shows the site wrong. How is this possible and how do I debug?

  • Attempting to install Ubuntu 11.10 along side Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Installer doesn't recognize an operating system present

    System Details: Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard AMD FX-8120 CPU 16 GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengance RAM (4x4) EVGA Nvidia GTX-560Ti video card 2x Dvd/cd rw dirves 1 Bluray RW drive 1 Orico USB 3.0 & eSata panel 1 Sabrent floppy bay card reader w/USB 2.0 port 760W pc power & cooling PS OCZ agility 120GB SSD (Windows 7 Professional 64bit installed in an approx 80gb partition, NTFS. There is also a "System Reserved" partition shown in disk management at 100mb in size, also NTFS) That leaves about 32GB usable free, un-partitioned space in which I hoped to install Ubuntu. However when I run the Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64 installer, it doesn't show there is even an operating system installed. It just shows the entire drive as free-unpartitioned space. Just not sure what to do here. I was thinking about using the Wubi installer, but i don't know about that. Is the performance reduction pretty drastic? Thanks,
