  • Code understanding, reverse engineering, best concepts and tools. Java.

    - by core07
    One of most demanding tasks for any programmer, architect is understanding other's code. E.g. I am contractor, hired to rescue some project very quickly. Fix bugs, plan global refactoring and therefore I need most efficient way to understand the code. What is the list of concepts, their priority and best tools for this? Of what I know: reverse code engineering to create object models (creating of diagram per package is not so convenient), create sequence diagrams (the tool connects in debug mode to the system and generates diagrams from runtime). Some visualizing techniques, using some tools to work not just with .java but also with e.g. JPA implementors like Hibernate. Generate diagram for not all the codebase, but add some class and then classes used by it. Is Sparx Enterprise Architect state of the art in reverse engineering or far from that. Any other better tools? Ideally would be that tool makes me understand the code as if I wrote it myself :)

  • Connection to DB2 in Python

    - by Mestika
    Hi, I'm trying to create a database connection in a python script to my DB2 database. When the connection is done I've to run some different SQL statements. I googled the problem and has read the ibm_db API (http://code.google.com/p/ibm-db/wiki/APIs) but just can't seem to get it right. Here is what I got so far: import sys import getopt import timeit import multiprocessing import random import os import re import ibm_db import time from string import maketrans query_str = None conn = ibm_db.pconnect("dsn=write","usrname","secret") query_stmt = ibm_db.prepare(conn, query_str) ibm_db.execute(query_stmt, "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM accounts") result = ibm_db.fetch_assoc() print result status = ibm_db.close(conn) but I get an error. I really tried everything (or, not everything but pretty damn close) and I can't get it to work. I just need to make a automatic test python script that can test different queries with different indexes and so on and for that I need to create and remove indexes a long the way. Hope someone has a solutions or maybe knows about some example codes out there I can download and study. Thanks Mestika

  • ruby on rails: How do I access variable data in a url parameter passed to a model?

    - by bandhunt
    I have a variable called "account_type" passed from a rails form and need to access the value in the corresponding model. I can check if :account_type exists as a symbol, but where does the stored data come into play? Is there something I need to do in the controller? This code gives an undefined method 'account_type' error. validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if account_type == 2 If I use a symbol then it doesn't give an error, but a symbol will never equal 2 validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if :account_type == 2 It's confusing that you can validate the format of a symbol (like :name above) when :name only seems to be a reference with nothing stored in it. Thanks!

  • Python: Dynamic attribute name generation without exec() or eval()

    - by PyNewbie27
    Hi, I'm trying to dynamically create buttons at runtime with PyQT4.7 However, this being my first python program I'm not sure how to get the functionality I want. I would like to be able to substitute a text string for an attribute name: i.e. for each in xrange(4): myname = "tab1_button%s" % each #tab1_button0, tab1_button1, tab1_button2 #self.ui.tab1_button0 = QtGui.QPushButton(self.ui.tab) <--normal code to create a named button setattr(self.ui,myname,QtGui.QPushButton(self.ui.tab)) #rewrite of line above to dynamicly generate a button #here's where I get stuck. this code isn't valid, but it shows what i want to do self.ui.gridLayout.addWidget(self.ui.%s) % myname #I need to have %s be tab1_button1, tab1_button2, etc. I know the % is for string substituion but how can I substitute the dynamically generated attribute name into that statement? I assume there's a basica language construct I'm missing that allows this. Since it's my first program, please take it easy on me ;)

  • llvm clang struct creating functions on the fly

    - by anon
    I'm using LLVM-clang on Linux. Suppose in foo.cpp I have: struct Foo { int x, y; }; How can I create a function "magic" such that: typedef (Foo) SomeFunc(Foo a, Foo b); SomeFunc func = magic("struct Foo { int x, y; };"); so that: func(SomeFunc a, SomeFunc b); // returns a.x + b.y; ? Note: So basically, "magic" needs to take a char*, have LLVM parse it to get how C++ lays out the struct, then create a function on the fly that returns a.x + b.y; Thanks!

  • Ruby get inheriting class

    - by Brian D.
    I'm working on creating my first plugin for rails. I'm still pretty new to ruby and I was wondering if its possible to get the inheriting class? For example, I'm trying to create a plugin that will allow unit testing and functional testing when you are not using migrations. What I'm trying to do is initialize a class variable named controller to be initialized to the type of controller that is being tested. If I have a base class ControllerTest: class ControllerTest < Test::Unit::TestCase attr_accessor :controller def initialize super @controller = "call function that will find the inheriting classes name and create an instance of that controller type." end end So what I'm currently stuck on is getting the name of the inheriting class. Is this possible? And if not, does anyone know another way on how I could go about implementing this? Thanks in advance.

  • How to increment counters based on a printed array

    - by Sam Liew
    I managed to developed a simple board of 5x5 using random numbers and array. Big achievement for someone like me! :) Now I have to increment the counters depending on the frequency of the numbers. If the value within 0-49 is printed..then nCounter++ If the value within 50-75 is printed..then pCounter++ something like that. The problem is that I don't know how to increase the counters based on the printed board. Here is the code: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <time.h> int main() { //Initialize Variables int randomNumber; int rows; int columns; int hdCounter =0; int hCounter = 0; int cCounter = 0; int pCounter = 0; int nCounter = 0; //Declare board size int board[5][5]; //size of board is 5 x 5 //Create the random number generator seed srand(time(NULL)); //Assign the random numbers from 1 - 25 into variable randomNumber //Create the rows for the board for ( rows = 1; rows <= 5 ; rows++ ) { //Create the colimns for the board for ( columns = 1; columns <= 5 ; columns++ ) { //Assign variable randomNumber into variable board randomNumber = rand() %100 + 1; board[rows][columns] = randomNumber; //print the board printf("%d\t", board[rows][columns]); //calculate the frequency of numbers on the printed board if (randomNumber >= 85 && randomNumber <= 100 ) hdCounter++; else if ( randomNumber >= 75 ) hCounter++; else if ( randomNumber >= 65 ) cCounter++; else if ( randomNumber >= 50 ) pCounter++; else if ( randomNumber >= 1 ) nCounter++; else continue; } //Newline after the end of 5th column. printf("\n\n"); } printf( "N \t P \t C \t H \t HD\n\n" ); printf("%d \t %d \t %d \t %d \t %d \t", nCounter, pCounter, cCounter, hCounter, hdCounter); }//end main I tried replacing randomNumber in the if-statement with board[rows][columns] but I seem to get the same undesired results.

  • How do I branch an individual file in SVN?

    - by Michael Carman
    The subversion concept of branching appears to be focused on creating an [un]stable fork of the entire repository on which to do development. Is there a mechanism for creating branches of individual files? For a use case, think of a common header (*.h) file that has multiple platform-specific source (*.c) implementations. This type of branch is a permanent one. All of these branches would see ongoing development with occasional cross-branch merging. This is in sharp contrast to unstable development/stable release branches which generally have a finite lifespan. I do not want to branch the entire repository (cheap or not) as it would create an unreasonable amount of maintenance to continuously merge between the trunk and all the branches. At present I'm using ClearCase, which has a different concept of branching that makes this easy. I've been asked to consider transitioning to SVN but this paradigm difference is important. I'm much more concerned about being able to easily create alternate versions for individual files than about things like cutting a stable release branch.

  • Ruby on Rails - f.error_messages not showing up

    - by Brian Roisentul
    Hi, I've read many posts about this issue but I never got this to work. My model looks like this: class Announcement < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :title, :description end My controller's create method(only its relevant part) looks like this: def create respond_to do |format| if @announcement.save flash[:notice] = 'Announcement was successfully created.' format.html { redirect_to(@announcement) } format.xml { render :xml => @announcement, :status => :created, :location => @announcement } else @announcement = Announcement.new @provinces = Province.all @types = AnnouncementType.all @categories = Tag.find_by_sql 'select * from tags where parent_id=0 order by name asc' @subcategories= '' format.html { render :action => "new" } #new_announcement_path format.xml { render :xml => @announcement.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end My form looks like this: <% form_for(@announcement) do |f| %> <%= error_messages_for 'announcement' %> <!--I've also treid f.error_messages--> ... What am I doing wrong?

  • Compare rows between 2 tables

    - by arthur
    I am new to SQL and I need to build a database for a grocery store(not real, just a course assignment) i have two fields from two different tables - supplied price - the price that the store buys from the supplier and price that is given to the customers How can I make a constraint that insures that supplied price is lower then the price that is given to the customers? The relevant tables that I have are: CREATE TABLE Supplied_Products( [Supplier ID] Int NOT NULL Foreign Key References Suppliers, [Product ID] Int NOT NULL Foreign Key References Products, Price Float NOT NULL, CHECK (Price0), Constraint PK_Supplied_Products PRIMARY KEY([Supplier ID] ,[Product ID]) ) CREATE TABLE Products( [Product-ID] Int NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, [Product Name] Varchar(20) NOT NULL, Price Float NOT NULL, [Category-Name] Varchar(20) NOT NULL Foreign Key References Categories, [Weight] Float NOT NULL, [Is Refrigirated] Varchar(1) DEFAULT 'N' CHECK ([Is Refrigirated] in('Y','N')),/* Is Refrigirated can be only Y-yes or N-no*/ CHECK (Price 0) )

  • How to convert a DOM node list to an array in Javascript?

    - by Guss
    I have a Javascript function that accepts a list of HTML nodes, but it expects a Javascript array (it runs some Array methods on that) and I want to feed it the output of Document.getElementsByTagName that returns a DOM node list. Initially I thought of using something simple like: Array.prototype.slice.call(list,0) And that works fine in all browsers, except of course Internet Explorer which returns the error "JScript object expected", as apparently the DOM node list returned by Document.getElement* methods is not a JScript object enough to be the target of a function call. Caveats: I don't mind writing Internet Explorer specific code, but I'm not allowed to use any Javascript libraries such as JQuery because I'm writing a widget to be embedded into 3rd party web site, and I cannot load external libraries that will create conflict for the clients. My last ditch effort is to iterate over the DOM node list and create an array myself, but is there a nicer way to do that?

  • AJAX Issue, Works in all browsers except IE

    - by Nik
    Alright, this code works in Chrome and FF, but not IE (which is to be expected). Does anyone see anything wrong with this code that would render it useless in IE? var waittime=400; chatmsg = document.getElementById("chatmsg"); room = document.getElementById("roomid").value; sessid = document.getElementById("sessid").value; chatmsg.focus() document.getElementById("chatwindow").innerHTML = "loading..."; document.getElementById("userwindow").innerHTML = "Loading User List..."; var xmlhttp = false; var xmlhttp2 = false; var xmlhttp3 = false; function ajax_read() { if(window.XMLHttpRequest){ xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); if(xmlhttp.overrideMimeType){ xmlhttp.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if(window.ActiveXObject){ try{ xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) { try{ xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e){ } } } if(!xmlhttp) { alert('Giving up :( Cannot create an XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { document.getElementById("chatwindow").innerHTML = xmlhttp.responseText; setTimeout("ajax_read()", waittime); } } xmlhttp.open('GET','methods.php?method=r&room=' + room +'',true); xmlhttp.send(null); } function user_read() { if(window.XMLHttpRequest){ xmlhttp3=new XMLHttpRequest(); if(xmlhttp3.overrideMimeType){ xmlhttp3.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if(window.ActiveXObject){ try{ xmlhttp3=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) { try{ xmlhttp3=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e){ } } } if(!xmlhttp3) { alert('Giving up :( Cannot create an XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } xmlhttp3.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlhttp3.readyState==4) { document.getElementById("userwindow").innerHTML = xmlhttp3.responseText; setTimeout("user_read()", 10000); } } xmlhttp3.open('GET','methods.php?method=u&room=' + room +'',true); xmlhttp3.send(null); } function ajax_write(url){ if(window.XMLHttpRequest){ xmlhttp2=new XMLHttpRequest(); if(xmlhttp2.overrideMimeType){ xmlhttp2.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if(window.ActiveXObject){ try{ xmlhttp2=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) { try{ xmlhttp2=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e){ } } } if(!xmlhttp2) { alert('Giving up :( Cannot create an XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } xmlhttp2.open('GET',url,true); xmlhttp2.send(null); } function submit_msg(){ nick = document.getElementById("chatnick").value; msg = document.getElementById("chatmsg").value; document.getElementById("chatmsg").value = ""; ajax_write("methods.php?method=w&m=" + msg + "&n=" + nick + "&room=" + room + "&sessid=" + sessid + ""); } function keyup(arg1) { if (arg1 == 13) submit_msg(); } var intUpdate = setTimeout("ajax_read()", waittime); var intUpdate = setTimeout("user_read()", 0);

  • How do I understand what the following means?

    - by Runner
    Quoted from here: if (to_end) { /* If we want to scroll to the end, including horizontal scrolling, * then we just create a mark with right gravity at the end of the * buffer. It will stay at the end unless explicitely moved with * gtk_text_buffer_move_mark. */ gtk_text_buffer_create_mark (buffer, "end", &iter, FALSE); /* Add scrolling timeout. */ return g_timeout_add (50, (GSourceFunc) scroll_to_end, textview); } else { /* If we want to scroll to the bottom, but not scroll horizontally, * then an end mark won't do the job. Just create a mark so we can * use it with gtk_text_view_scroll_mark_onscreen, we'll position it * explicitely when needed. Use left gravity so the mark stays where * we put it after inserting new text. */ gtk_text_buffer_create_mark (buffer, "scroll", &iter, TRUE); /* Add scrolling timeout. */ return g_timeout_add (100, (GSourceFunc) scroll_to_bottom, textview); } Though there are quite a few lines of comments, I still don't understand the logic in it,especially, what's the relation between an mark and the position of scroll bar?

  • many to many query for ActiveRecord

    - by JP
    I have three data models, Users, Conversations and Lines, where each conversation has many lines and certain participating users, each line has one conversation and one user and each user has many conversations and many lines. I have arranged these in ActiveRecord like this: class Line < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :conversation belongs_to :user end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :conversations has_many :lines end class Conversation < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :lines has_and_belongs_to_many :users end If I want to create a new conversation with 4 users, where the users are either found or created inside the users table, how would I go about doing this? I thought I could do: c = Conversation.new c.users.find_or_create_by_username('myUsername') c.save But this will create a new username in the Users table even if that username already exists! (ie. running the above code 3 times will result in Users having 3 rows with 'myUsername' as the username, one for each conversation, rather than three conversations all with the same 'myUsername' entry listed in their associated users) I'm not sure how to search for this kind of information with google - can anyone help?

  • How to support both DataContractSerializer and XMLSerializer for the same contract on the same host?

    - by Sly
    In our production environment, our WCF services are serialized with the XMLSerializer. To do so our service interfaces have the [XMLSerializerFormat] attribute. Now, we need to change to DataContractSerializer but we must stay compatible with our existing clients. Therefore, we have to expose each service with both serializers. We have one constraint: we don't want to redefine each contract interface twice, we have 50 services contract interfaces and we don't want to have IIncidentServiceXml IIncidentServiceDCS IEmployeeServiceXml IEmployeeServiceDCS IContractServiceXml IContractServiceDCS How can we do that? This is a description of what we have tried so far but I'm willing to try completely different approaches: We tried to create all the endpoints by code in our own ServiceHostFactory class. Basically we create each endpoint twice. The problem is that at runtime, WCF complains that the service has two endpoints with the same contact name but with different ContractDescription instances. The message says we should use different contract names or reuse the same ContractDescription instance.

  • Mixing Transaction Script pattern with DDD/CQRS

    - by Herman
    Hi all, Here is the situation, in order to support our legacy system, we need to insert to a table whenever a user logs in. This is basically an CRUD operation, so it doesn't really make sense to create repository/entity/command/event for this since this doesn't tie to any business rules at all. The only benefit to create a CQRS command is that this database write can happen asynchronously under that model. Which is a better route to take? Use CQRS, and then call a stored proc. when handling that command? Just call database directly in the controller (I am using asp.net mvc)

  • PayPal testing without using Sandbox

    - by Webbo
    I am developing a website in PHP that accepts PayPal payments. It uses the IPN from PayPal and has a custom payment template etc etc. It all works great through the Sandbox server but when it comes to showing my client, I don't want to have to tell them to login to/create a Sandbox account, create a buyer account and make a payment - he hasn't got time for that and probably won't be able to do it. Therefore, my question is - is there any simple way that I can show my client the PayPal integration in "test mode" without him using the sandbox? I realise that I can set the transaction value to 0.01 and just test on the live PayPal server but that isn't an ideal solution. Cheers! Edit: Just to better explain what I mean, this is what my client sees when he first goes to checkout; As you can see, he has to login to his Sandbox account before then purchasing the item using the buyer email that he sets up. It's just confusing and totally non user-friendly.

  • Accessing ArrayBuffer from PHP $_POST after xmlHTTPrequest send()

    - by Dan
    I'm following the tuitions on XMLHttpRequest 2 from : https://developer.mozilla.org/en/DOM/XMLHttpRequest/Sending_and_Receiving_Binary_Data and http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/file/xhr2/#toc-send-arraybuffer They're great tutorials for the client side, and here is a working extract from my script: var imagebuffer = new ArrayBuffer(size); // create the readonly memory buffer var imagedata= new Uint8Array(imagebuffer); // create a view to manipulate data // do some cool stuff with imagedata var exchange=new XMLHttpRequest(); exchange.open("POST",url,true); exchange.send(arraybuffer); So far so good, and I can see from the both client and server control panels that plenty of data is being transferred. Here's my problem: how do I access the ArrayBuffer with PHP at the server? I'm used to the $_POST superglobal wanting parameters passing from a HTML form so it can be accessed as an array but I can't find any reference for how to access this binary array and stick it in my MySQL database.
