• Using set with values from a table

  I'm writing a database of all DVDs I have at home. One of the fields, actors, I would like it to be a set of values from an other table, which is storing actors. So for every film I want to store a list of actors, all of which selected from a list of actors, taken from a different table. Is it possible? How do I do this? It would be a set of foreign keys basically. I'm using a MySQL database for a Django application (python), so any hint in SQL or Python would be much appreciated. I hope the question is clear, many thanks.

  I have been developing in classic ASP for about 2.5 years and I am trying to update my skill set to include ASP.NET MVC. What is the MVC way of executing SSIs? IE: How can I include a database drawn navigation list in a sidebar? I have been looking into partial views, but they seem to get their content from the controller. As far as I can tell this means that I would need to write each controller to pass the navigation list. Am I thinking along the right lines?

• How to combine designable components with dependency injection

  When creating a designable .NET component, you are required to provide a default constructor. From the IComponent documentation: To be a component, a class must implement the IComponent interface and provide a basic constructor that requires no parameters or a single parameter of type IContainer. This makes it impossible to do dependency injection via constructor arguments. (Extra constructors could be provided, but the designer would ignore them.) Some alternatives we're considering: Service Locator Don't use dependency injection, instead use the service locator pattern to acquire dependencies. This seems to be what IComponent.Site.GetService is for. I guess we could create a reusable ISite implementation (ConfigurableServiceLocator?) which can be configured with the necessary dependencies. But how does this work in a designer context? Dependency Injection via properties Inject dependencies via properties. Provide default instances if they are necessary to show the component in a designer. Document which properties need to be injected. Inject dependencies with an Initialize method This is much like injection via properties but it keeps the list of dependencies that need to be injected in one place. This way the list of required dependencies is documented implicitly, and the compiler will assists you with errors when the list changes. Any idea what the best practice is here? How do you do it? edit: I have removed "(e.g. a WinForms UserControl)" since I intended the question to be about components in general. Components are all about inversion of control (see section 8.3.1 of the UMLv2 specification) so I don't think that "you shouldn't inject any services" is a good answer. edit 2: It took some playing with WPF and the MVVM pattern to finally "get" Mark's answer. I see now that visual controls are indeed a special case. As for using non-visual components on designer surfaces, I think the .NET component model is fundamentally incompatible with dependency injection. It appears to be designed around the service locator pattern instead. Maybe this will start to change with the infrastructure that was added in .NET 4.0 in the System.ComponentModel.Composition namespace.

  hy, i have a little, big problem here :) after i upload some images i get a list with all the images. I have some jQuery function for rotate, duplicate, delete, shuffle images! when i select a image and hit delete i send a post to php with the alt="" value of the image,i identify the picture and edit. • How to include simple collections in ConfigurationSection

  Is there a way for me to include a simple array of strings, or List<string> on my custom subclass of ConfigurationSection? (Or an array or generic list of simple data objects, for that matter?) I'm becoming familiar with the new (and VERY verbose) ConfigurationSection, ConfigurationElement, and ConfigurationElementCollection classes, but I'm by no means an expert yet. It seems like ConfigurationSection should handle simple collections/lists on its own, without me having to create a custom ConfigurationElementCollection subclass for each and every one. But I haven't found any reference to this ability online.

• Custom Classes Passed from Service to a UI threads via AIDL

  I have a service that regularly queries a web server for new messages. The service stores the new messages in an arrayList. These messages are implemented using a custom class, storing all kinds of metadata (strings and longs). An activity then connects to this service to retrieve those messages and display them to the user. I have an .aidl file that describes the interface that the service exposes. package com.example.package; interface MyInterface { List<Message> getMessages(); } The Message class extends the Parcelable class which should allow for the IPC transfer. The problem is this: Eclipse gives me an error saying that the type of List<Message> is unknown. Any imports are marked as invalid. Ideas? Thanks

  Is there a way in which I can programmatically access the document properties of a Word 2007 document? I am open to using any language for this, but ideally it might be via a PowerShell script. My overall aim is to traverse the documents somewhere on a filesystem, parse some document properties from these documents, and then collate all of these properties back together into a new Word document. (I essentially want to automatically create a document which is a list of all documents beneath a certain folder of the filesystem; and this list would contain such things as the Title, Abstract and Author document properties; the CreateDate field; etc. for each document)

• Zend_Form validation problem

  I am having problems getting validation to work for a form built using Zend_Form. The idea is this: I have two dropdown. One is a list of players. The other is a list of free agents who play the same position as the player. I am using an onChange javascript callback to run some Ajax code that replaces the free agent list dropdown with a new one at the position of the player they've selected from the player dropdown. Now, perhaps this is the wrong way, but I built the form by creating an instance of Zend_Form and then creating all these setX methods that add elements to the form. My reasoning was that I wanted to display certain elements in specific places on the page, not just output $this-form on my template. The problem appears to be when I get the form post back, the validator seems to not know about the validation rule I set up for the free agent drop down. Here's some relevant code to look at. I'm a relative ZF n00b so feel free to tell me I am not doing things the ZF way if it leaps out at you.   It sounds silly, but I can't get it. Why can the expression [] == [] be typed at all? More specifically, which type (in class Eq) is inferred to the type of list elements? In a ghci session, I see the following: Prelude> :t (==[]) (==[]) :: (Eq [a]) => [a] -> Bool But the constraint Eq [a] implies Eq a also, as is shown here: Prelude> (==[]) ([]::[IO ()]) <interactive>:1:1: No instance for (Eq (IO ())) arising from use of `==' at <interactive>:1:1-2 Probable fix: add an instance declaration for (Eq (IO ())) In the definition of `it': it = (== []) ([] :: [IO ()]) Thus, in []==[], the type checker must assume that the list element is some type a that is in class Eq. But which one? The type of [] is just [a], and this is certainly more general than Eq a = [a].

• Issue with parsed text with HTMLCleaner - spaces at the begining of text

  Im able to get text using HTMLCleaner from website. The problem is that when I set the text to a TextView it shows the beginning of the text with a big space on it. Here is the screenshot of what im talking about. I have tried android:gravity but nothing happened. Please help. • Non Document Centric SharePoint Workflow

  SharePoint workflows are document centric in that the base thing the workflow runs on has to be a thing; be it a document or just a list item. The workflow itself is task based, so stuff a user has to do. Now I can put any sort of code in these tasks that I want to and even put complex InfoPath forms in for the user to perform the task. This has been fine on all my previous workflows. But what if I want the tasks to be actual official forms themselves. The item that the workflow runs on is just some abstract concept like an event. An example could be an accident has happened. There isn't an accident form, but a whole set of forms that need to be completed by different people. Task forms aren't really a nice way to go, because it locks all the forms into the task list. You can only access the forms by not deleting the tasks when complete and going to the workflow summery and following the task links to the InfoPath forms or going straight to the tasks list and doing a filter on particular "accidents". These are official documents so ideally there would be a library for each type of document and the workflow would orchestrate the completion of the right forms. It would mean each task would have to create a new blank form and then link the user to that form. The user would go complete the form but then have to go back to the task form and click yes I've completed it until the workflow could progress. Well this is short of the workflow monitoring the forms library form for some completion trigger. But then it all gets messy with the user experience from clicking the link in the task email, to open the Infopath task form, to clicking the link in the subsequent Infopath library form and then return through these forms on completion. It just gets messy trying to retrofit this non document centric sort of workflow into SharePoint. I would really appreciate any input on what might be the best way to do this. Store the forms as task forms Store the forms as library forms and create/link from the task forms Store the forms as different infopath views, and use a forms library. The workflow would trigger variables that progress the view the infopath form shows. Using the same form template for both task forms and a forms library and when a task form is complete, copy the xml into the forms library to have a official record outside of the workflow. Thanks

  Hi there, I am trying to understand how the following builtin functions work when sequentially processing cursor rows. The descriptions come from the Python 3.1 manual (using SQLite3) Cursor.fetchone() Fetches the next row of a query result set, returning a single sequence. Cursor.fetchmany() Fetches the next set of rows of a query result, returning a list. Cursor.fetchall() Fetches all (remaining) rows of a query result, returning a list. So if I have a loop in which I am processing one row at a time using cursor.fetchone(), and some later code requires that I return to the first row, or fetch all rows using fetchall(), how do I do it? The concept is a bit strange to me, especially coming from a Foxpro background which has the concept of a record pointer which can be moved to the 1st or last row in a cursor (go top/bottom), or go to the nth row (go n) Any help would be appreciated. • Bind Data after TCP receive.

  I have this strange problem all day now. I dunno if you handled something similar. I used two different serializers and now i know its not this problem. Im sending some data over TCP Sockets. Serialize - Send - Deserialize, everything works ok, i can get my objects search through them, use they're properties! But, if e.g receive a BusinessObject[] and convert into List<BusinessObject>, then bind the list in a Control.DataSource = businessObjectList; BOOM! NotSupportedException. Tried it with 3 different controls. Same behaviour. My head is empty of ideas right now!! The Send TCP happens on Desktop Framework, Receive on Compact Framework. But i dont think this has to do with anything. I wish for an explanation on this!

• Ignore Hibernate @Where annotation

  I have an Entity which has an association to another Entity annotated with @Where, like so public class EntityA { @OneToMany @Where(...) private List<EntityB> entityBList; } Recently the inevitable has happened, I need to load EntityB's that don't conform to the @Where clause. I could remove the @Where annotation, but it is used a lot, so ideally I don't want to do that. Apart from loading the list of EntityB's manually, with another query, what are my options? Can I tell Hibernate to ignore the @Where annotation?

F# (and to some extent C#) is most if not all of these, but only targets .NET. What similar language targets the LLVM?
