  Hi! I'm trying to implement stateless session bean ejb3 in jboss5 using netbeans6.8 as a editor. When I tried deploying my application, I'm getting the following error. I have the library weblogic.jar in my build library folders, which is set as classpath for the junit task. I look at this file and can't find the WeblogicMBean.class inside. However, in Jdev, I can import weblogic.management.WeblogicMBean into my class if I set library reference to this weblogic.jar file and compile my class without problem. • Really slow obtaining font metrics.

  So the problem I have is that I start my application by displaying a simple menu. To size and align the text correctly I need to obtain font metrics and I cannot find a way to do it quickly. I tested my program and it looks like whatever method I use to obtain font metrics the first call takes over 500 milliseconds!? Because of it the time it takes to start-up my application is much longer than necessary. I don't know if it is platform specific or not, but just in case, I'm using Mac OS 10.6.2 on MacBook Pro (hardware isn't an issue here). If you know a way of obtaining font metrics quicker please help.   The goal is to have an applet run from a jar file. The problem is that the applet only seems to want to run from an exploded jar file. The ones using "curl" are easy, but i also have a Nutch crawl that uses the "solrindex" command to push data into Solr. Is it possible to tell commons-httpclient about a credential without explicitly doing an _httpclient.getState().setCredentials(...)? Anyother ideas? One idea i had was to use an IPfiltering Valve for just the "update" Solr webservices. That would mean you could only make an update call from certain nodes. Thanks

• Pre Commit Hook for JSLint in Mercurial and Git

  I want to run JSLint before a commit into either a Mercurial or Git repo is done. I want this as an automatic step that is set up instead of relying on the developer (mainly me) remembering to run JSLint before-hand. I normally run JSLint while developing, but want to specify a contract on JS files that they pass JSLint before being committed to the repo. For Mercurial, this page spells out the precommit syntax, but the only variables that seem to be available are the parent1 and parent2 changeset IDs involved in the commit. What I really want are a list of file names that are involved with the commit, so that I can then choose the .js file and run jslint over them. Similar issue for GIT, the default info available as part of the precommit script seems limited. What might work is calling hg status/git status as part of the precommit script, parse that output to find JS files then do the work that way. I was hoping for something easier though, and I am not sure if calling status as part of a precommit hook reflect the correct information. For instance in Git if the changes files have not been added yet, but the git commit uses -a, would the files show up in the correct section of the git status output as being part of the commit set? • Incompatibility between x86 and x64 in Installation solution

  Hello, I have installation solution that have installer project (not web installer but simple installer) that installs NT services, web service and web sites with help of additional two projects of dlls with my own code that performs my installation step. In user actions of installer project I call installer function of one of those projects, and this project calls to installer of second project: installer - MiddleCaller - InstallationCore. All this developing on Windows 7 and work fine when I compile all in 32 bit. The project must run on Windows 2008. Because of some reasons all must be in x64 bit. For this purpose, in MiddleCaller and InstallationCore I click right button of mouse on project - build - targer x64. For to move installer project to 64 bit in properties of installer (when project is active) I check: Target platform: x64. When I run installation on x86 I get error: The installation package is not supported by this processor type" And this is good, because now I know that my installation compiled in 64 bit, but when I run this on windows 2008 I get: Error 1001. Exception occured while initializing the instance: System.BadImageFormatException: could not load file or Assembly 'MiddleCaller, v...' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Any one has some idea what I need to do for run fine the installation on x64? May be I still not moved the installer project to x64 bit, if yes, where I do this? Thank you for ahead.

• flushing database cache in SWI-Prolog

  We are using swi-prolog to run our testcases. Whenever the test starts, I am opening the connection to MYSQL database and storing the Name of the Test hat is being done and then closing the DB. These tests run for about 2 days continuously. After the tests are done, the results basically gets stored in folder in the server. There is a predicate in another prolog file that is called to update the results to the MYSQL database. The code is simple, I use odbc library and just call odbc_* predicates to connect and update the mysql by issuing direct queries. The actual problem is : If I try to call the Predicate from the same Prolog window, where the test just got completed, I get an error as updating to the DB server. Although I do not get any error in the connection. If I close the session of that prolog with halt and closing all the open prolog windows , then open an other complete new instance of Prolog and run the predicate the update goes well. I have a feeling that there is some connection reference to the MySQL DB in Prolog database. Is there any way to clear the database in prolog so that I can run the same predicate without closing any existing prolog windows? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

  I'd like to maintain a history of jobs that were scheduled by a Quartz scheduler containing the following properties: 'start time', 'end time', 'success', 'error'. There are two interfaces available for this: ITriggerListener and IJobListener (I'm using the C# naming convention for interfaces because I'm using Quartz.NET but the same question could be asked for the Java version). IJobListener has a JobToBeExecuted and a JobWasExecuted method. The latter provides a JobExecutionException so that you know when something went wrong. However, there is no way to correlate JobToBeExecuted and JobWasExecuted. Suppose my job runs for ten minutes. I start it at t0 and t0+2 (so they overlap). I get two calls to JobToBeExecuted and insert two start times into my history table. When both jobs finish at t1 and t1+2 I get two calls to JobWasExecuted. How do I know what database record to update in each call (to store an end time with its corresponding start time)? ITriggerListener has another problem. There is no way to get any errors inside the TriggerComplete method when a job failed. How do I get the desired behavior?

  I have created a google-app-engine java project in Eclipse using Google's Eclipse plugin. My previous attempt to deploy failed. Now, when I retry, I get the following message: Unable to update app: Error posting to URL : http://appengine.google.com/api/appversion/create?app_id=mybdaywisherversion=1 409 conflict Another transaction for this user is already in progress for this app and major version. That user can undo the transaction with appcfg.py's "rollback" command. Now, I have always used the google-app-engine features from inside Eclipse only and have not a clue how to run the appcfg.py command. Could not get much help from documentation available over the internet. The only thing I could make out was for mac (I'm on mac), the command to be used is appcfg.sh. Inside Eclipse, I looked where App-Engine SDK is located on my machine and went to that location. Even found appcfg.sh there. But when I try to run it, it only reports the error "command not found". Tried various alternatives to run it (like tried running it with sudo, tried running it as ./appcfg.sh by going to whether its located) but no success Can someone please tell me the step I will have to follow to run the apcfg command?

  I'm re-writing alibrary with a mandate to make it totally allocation free. The goal is to have 0 collections after the app's startup phase is done. Previously, there were a lot of calls like this: Int32 foo = Int32.Parse(ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(bytes, start, length)); Which I believe is allocating a string. I couldn't find a C# library function that would do the same thing automatically. I looked at the BitConverter class, but it looks like that is only if your Int32 is encoded with the actual bytes that represent it. Here, I have an array of bytes representing Ascii characters that represent an Int32. • SSIS Intermittent variable error: The system cannot find the file specified

  Our SSIS pacakges a structured as one Control package and many child packages (about 30) that are invoked from the control package. The child packages are invoked with Execute Package Task. There is one Execute Package Task per child package. Each Execute Package Task uses File Connection Manager to specify path to the child package dtsx file. There is one File Connection Manager per child package. Each File Connection Manager has an expression defined for ConnectionString property. This expression looks like this: @[Template::FolderPackages]+"MyPackage.dtsx", the file name is different for each package. The variable (FolderPackages) is specified in the SSIS package configuration file. The error that is generated during run time is "Error 0x80070002 while loading package file "MyPackage.dtsx". The system cannot find the file specified." The package that fails is different from run to run and sometimes no packages fail at all. This is when run on exactly the same environment/data etc. I ran FileMon during this error and found out that when the error happens SSIS tries to read the dtsx file from a wrong place, namely from system32. I checked that this is identical to what would happen if @[Template::FolderPackages] variable were empty, but because the very same variable is used for every child package and works for some but doesn't work sometimes for others, I have no expalnation to this fact. Anything obvious, or time to raise a support call with Microsoft?

• Design by contract: predict methods needed, discipline yourself and deal with code that comes to min

  I like the idea of designing by contract a lot (at least, as far as I understand the principal). I believe it means you define intefaces first before you start implementing actual code, right? However, from my limited experience (3 OOP years now) I usually can't resist the urge to start coding pretty early, for several reasons: because my limited experience has shown me I am unable to predict what methods I will be needing in the interface, so I might as well start coding right away. or because I am simply too impatient to write out the whole interfaces first. or when I do try it, I still wind up implementing bits of code already, because I fear I might forget this or that imporant bit of code, that springs to mind when I am designing the interfaces. As you see, especially with the last two points, this leads to a very disorderly way of doing thing. Tasks get mixed up. I should draw a clear line between designing interfaces and actual coding. If you, unlike me, are a good/disciplined planner, as intended above, how do you: ...know the majority of methods you will be needing up front so well? Especially if it's components that implement stuff you are not familiar with yet. ...keep yourself from resisting the urge to start coding right away? ...deal with code that comes to mind when you are designing the intefaces?

• How to have Android Service communicate with Activity

  I'm writing my first Android application and trying to get my head around communication between services and activities. I have a Service that will run in the background and do some gps and time based logging. I will have an Activity that will be used to start and stop the Service. So first, I need to be able to figure out if the Service is running when the Activity is started. There are some other questions here about that, so I think I can figure that out (but feel free to offer advice). My real problem: if the Activity is running and the Service is started, I need a way for the Service to send messages to the Activity. Simple Strings and integers at this point - status messages mostly. The messages will not happen regularly, so I don't think polling the service is a good way to go if there is another way. I only want this communication when the Activity has been started by the user - I don't want to start the Activity from the Service. In other words, if you start the Activity and the Service is running, you will see some status messages in the Activity UI when something interesting happens. If you don't start the Activity, you will not see these messages (they're not that interesting). It seems like I should be able to determine if the Service is running, and if so, add the Activity as a listener. Then remove the Activity as a listener when the Activity pauses or stops. Is that actually possible? The only way I can figure out to do it is to have the Activity implement Parcelable and build an AIDL file so I can pass it through the Service's remote interface. That seems like overkill though, and I have no idea how the Activity should implement writeToParcel() / readFromParcel(). Is there an easier or better way? Thanks for any help.

  Hi I have a reasonably advanced (many patches and subpatches) quartz composition that was created in Snow Leopard but doesn't run well (many elements are not rendered) in Leopard. The composition tested OK via Quartz Composer's Test in Runtime option and works fine for both Leopard 32-bits and Leopard 64-bits (menu item "File | Test in Runtime | Leopard 32-bits". In an actual Leopard (32-bits) system, a lot of elements are not rendered in the quartz composition. Below are the log file excerpt when the composition is run in QuickTime Player under Leopard: QuickTime Player[134] *** <QCNodeManager | namespace = "com.apple.QuartzComposer" | 335 nodes>: Patch with name "/units to pixels" is missing QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D82880 "(null)">:Cannot create node of class "/units to pixels" and identifier "(null)" QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D7C130 "(null)">:Cannot create node of class "/resize image to target" and identifier "(null)" QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D7C130 "(null)">:Cannot create connection from ["outputValue" @ "Math_1"] to ["Target_Pixels" @ "Patch_2"] The patch "units to pixels" is a system patch in Snow Leopard whereas the patch "resize image to target" is a custom virtual patch located in my home directory. I have tested the composition under another user's account and it ran fine which shows that it already embeds the "resize image to target" virtual patch that is located in my home directory. I'm really puzzled why the composition passes the Leopard Runtime test but yet fail to run in an actual Leopard OS? Is there a post-processing step that I need to run to the composition file? • PackageMaker install script for rxtx

  I am using PackageMaker to create an installer for my application. During installation I need to run a bash script to properly install rxtx, a JNI library for serial port communication. This library needs to have the directory /var/lock in place with user "root" and group "uucp". The installation script also needs to add the current user to the group "uucp" for the lib to be able to write to /var/lock. Now when I run my application installer the preinstall script is run as root. Therefore "whoami" returns root instead of the user who is actually running the installer. The result is that rxtx is not able to create lock files in /var/lock because the actual user was not added as a member to "uucp". How can I get the user while my script is run by the installer. Or is it better to set the permissions for /var/lock to a different group maybe? The tests all run fine, but it seems as though my script is launching both play auto-test and play start --%ci at the same time.
