Multiple page technique

Six years ago I wrote an large web application. It was my very first php program, and it grew, and grew. I used a lot of forms, and some very (atrocious) techniques to give an AJAX "look" to the site, and to handle multiple users with various permissions. I am looking to expand this, and sell it to other companies in the field, but I need to seriously modernize it. Currently, it loads index.php where you log in. The user can then select from various "students" or "participants" (We work with people with disabilities). From there, you can select different lesson plans or life skills that are being worked on. There are many other branches as well. At each stage, a different page is served: Sel_Paricipant.php, Sel_Program.php, etc. Are there any fundamental problems with doing it this way? If so, what are some good techniques for eliminating this, so that people only see the TLD in their address bar? Thanks in advance. --Dave

I was thinking of using regular expressions, but I am not too great in writing them, and was wondering if someone could help me out. How to execute PHPUnit?

PHPUnit can execute script like this: phpunit --log-junit classname filename.php (i need the XML report , for my continus integreation platform) but my problem is that i work with a MVC framework and all pages are called through pathofproject/indexCLI.php module=moduleName class=className ect with 3 arguments in total(when i use the shell commande and path/index.php argum=... with url) so i cant call phpunit pathofproject/indexCLI.php module=moduleName class=className . So i think to a lot of solution , i hope you can help me to use one of them. first how can i use phpunit commande with this type of calling, because i cant do it because he is waiting a classname and a filename (default comportement) if it possible !! when i call the same link in shell like this : php path/indexCLI.php module="blabla" ect ... i have the result of assertion in my consol , but cant use XML Junit option , can i do it ? my last solution is to call the link in a navigator like mozzila , but i dont know how to say to phpunit runner to chose XML report and not HTML report. the aim for me , is to have a XML report .

Ruby : UTF-8 IO

I use ruby 1.8.7. I try to parse some text files containing greek sentences, encoded in UTF-8. (I can't much paste here sample files, because they are subject to copyright. Really just some greek text encoded in UTF-8.) I want, for each file, to parse the file, extract all the words, and make a list of each new word found in this file. All that saved to one big index file. Trying to write up a C daemon, but don't know enough C to continue

Okay, so I want this daemon to run in the background with little to no interaction. I plan to have it work with Apache, lighttpd, etc to send the session & request information to allow C to generate a website from an object DB, saving will have to be an option so, you can start the daemon with an existing DB but will not save to it unless you login to the admin area and enable, and restart the daemon. Summary of the daemon: Load a database from file. Have a function to restart the daemon. Allow Apache, lighttpd, etc to get necessary data about the request and session. A varible to allow the database to be saved to the file, otherwise it will only be stored in ram. If it is set to save back to the file, then only have neccessary data in ram. Use sql-light for the database file. Build a webpage from some template files. $(myVar) for getting variables. ( php is quite fast, but the fact that making a few mySQL requests for every webpage is quite unefficent and I'm sure that it can be far better, so an object that we can recall data from in C would have to be faster ) P.S I am using Arch-Linux not MS-Windows, with the package group base-devel for the common developer tools such as make and makepgk. Nerd Dinner tutorial question (can't pull data off Model)

I am just following the tutorial about NerdDinner and was stuck because when I am implementing the "Index" View Template I got no data from it. Good strategy for copying a "sliding window" of data from a table?

I have a MySQL table from a third-party application that has millions of rows and only one index - the timestamp of each entry. Now I want to do some heavy self-joins and queries on the data using fields other than the timestamp. Doing the query on the original table would bring the database to a crawl, adding indexes to the table is not an option. Additionally, I only need entries that are newer than one week. My current strategy for doing the queries efficiently is to use a separate table (aux_table) that has the necessary indexes. My questions are: Is there another way to do the queries? and if not, How do I update the data in the indexed table efficiently? So far I have found two approaches for updating aux_table: Truncate aux_table and insert the desired data from the original table. Not very efficient because all the indexes must be re-crated. Check for the biggest timestamp in aux_table and insert all entries with a greater or equal timestamp from the original table. Occasionally drop older entries. Only copying entries with greater timestamp leads to dropped entries (because of entries with same timestamp that were inserted into the original table after the last update).

Default update detailViewController, HELP.

I've created an app that allows users to add information (from an addViewController), which is then displayed in a UITableView on the rootViewController. When the user taps the tableViewCell the detailViewController then displays, you guessed it, more details regarding the inputted user information. What I'm trying to accomplish is to setup an editViewController that will allow users to edit information they've already submitted. Currently, I'm trying to auto-populate the editViewController with the information that was previously submitted by the user (after which they can press save and update the info). However, I'm getting stuck trying to perform this auto-populating and I'm not sure this is even the best route to accomplish this. I'm trying to add a custom action to a core controller by extending it in a local module. Problem Render backbone collection using Mustache template

I am quite new to backbone js and Mustache. I am trying to load the backbone collection (Object array) on page load from rails json object to save the extra call . I am having troubles rendering the backbone collection using mustache template. Lookup table size reduction

Hello: I have an application in which I have to store a couple of millions of integers, I have to store them in a Look up table, obviously I cannot store such amount of data in memory and in my requirements I am very limited I have to store the data in an embebedded system so I am very limited in the space, so I would like to ask you about recommended methods that I can use for the reduction of the look up table. I cannot use function approximation such as neural networks, the values needs to be in a table. The range of the integers is not known at the moment. When I say integers I mean a 32 bit value. Basically the idea is use some copmpression method to reduce the amount of memory but without losing many precision. This thing needs to run in hardware so the computation overhead cannot be very high. In my algorithm I have to access to one value of the table do some operations with it and after update the value. In the end what I should have is a function which I pass an index to it and then I get a value, and after I have to use another function to write a value in the table. I found one called tile coding http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~sutton/book/8/node6.html, this one is based on several look up tables, does anyone know any other method?. Thanks.

Managing multiple customer databases in ASP.NET MVC application

I am building an application that requires separate SQL Server databases for each customer. To achieve this, I need to be able to create a new customer folder, put a copy of a prototype database in the folder, change the name of the database, and attach it as a new "database instance" to SQL Server. The prototype database contains all of the required table, field and index definitions, but no data records. I will be using SMO to manage attaching, detaching and renaming the databases. In the process of creating the prototype database, I tried attaching a copy of the database (companion .MDF, .LDF pair) to SQL Server, using Sql Server Management Studio, and discovered that SSMS expects the database to reside in c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\MyDatabaseName.MDF Is this a "feature" of SQL Server? Is there a way to manage individual databases in separate directories? Or am I going to have to put all of the customer databases in the same directory? (I was hoping for a little better control than this). NOTE: I am currently using SQL Server Express, but for testing purposes only. The production database will be SQL Server 2008, Enterprise version. So "User Instances" are not an option.

Jquery Bugs?? Long decimal number after two numbers multiply...

Hi all I am working on a shopping site and I am trying to calculate the subtotal of products. I got my price from a array and quantity from getJSON response array. Two of them multiply comes to my subtotal. I can change the quantity and it will comes out different subtotal. However,when I change the quantity to certain number, the final subtotal is like 259.99999999994 or some long decimal number. I use console.log to check the $price and $qty. Both of them are in the correct format ex..299.99 and 6 quantity.I have no idea what happen. I would appreciate it if someone can help me about it. Double Slash at end of URL when going to HTTPS?

My site currently uses http and https sections based on the data being collected on the site (form data uses https). On my index page, I have the PHP code at the top: <?php session_start(); ob_start(); if( $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 443) { header('Location:http://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])); die(); } ?> However, the page will not load and I get a 404 error. Similarly, when i visit the sections with https security using the head code: <?php session_start(); ob_start(); if( $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 80) { header('Location:https://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']).'/'.basename($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])); die(); } ?> The site does not respond AND for some reason creates a double slash when switching from http to https. Example: http://www.abc.com/, then clicking button which should route to enroll.php shows http://www.abc.com//enroll.php why the need for the double slash and can anybody help with the 404 errors?

beforeClose not working in jGrowl?

I have the following code which pulls json data from an ASP.NET page and displays these as notifications. The code will also take a note of what's been pulled through and store it in an array to prevent it being shown again in the same session. I'm now trying to implement functionality so that when the user closes a message, it's ID is recorded in a cookie to prevent it ever being shown again. To do this, I'm trying to write to the cookie when the beforeClose event fires. Everything else works fine apart from the saving to a cookie bit. Drawing an honeycomb with as3

Hi, I'm trying to create an honeycomb with as3 but I have some problem on cells positioning. I've already created the cells (not with code) and for cycled them to a funcion and send to it the parameters which what I thought was need (the honeycomb cell is allready on a sprite container in the center of the stage). to see the structure of the cycle and which parameters passes, please see the example below, the only thing i calculate in placeCell is the angle which I should obtain directly inside tha called function Note: the angle is reversed but it isn't important, and the color are useful in example only for visually divide cases. My for cycle calls placeCell and passes cell, current_case, counter (index) and the honeycomb cell_lv (cell level). Deeply nested subqueries for traversing trees in MySQL

I have a table in my database where I store a tree structure using the hybrid Nested Set (MPTT) model (the one which has lft and rght values) and the Adjacency List model (storing parent_id on each node). my_table (id, parent_id, lft, rght, alias) This question doesn't relate to any of the MPTT aspects of the tree but I thought I'd leave it in in case anyone had a good idea about how to leverage that. I want to convert a path of aliases to a specific node. For example: "users.admins.nickf" would find the node with alias "nickf" which is a child of one with alias "admins" which is a child of "users" which is at the root. There is a unique index on (parent_id, alias). I started out by writing the function so it would split the path to its parts, then query the database one by one: SELECT `id` FROM `my_table` WHERE `parent_id` IS NULL AND `alias` = 'users';-- 1 SELECT `id` FROM `my_table` WHERE `parent_id` = 1 AND `alias` = 'admins'; -- 8 SELECT `id` FROM `my_table` WHERE `parent_id` = 8 AND `alias` = 'nickf'; -- 37 But then I realised I could do it with a single query, using a variable amount of nesting: SELECT `id` FROM `my_table` WHERE `parent_id` = ( SELECT `id` FROM `my_table` WHERE `parent_id` = ( SELECT `id` FROM `my_table` WHERE `parent_id` IS NULL AND `alias` = 'users' ) AND `alias` = 'admins' ) AND `alias` = 'nickf'; Since the number of sub-queries is dependent on the number of steps in the path, am I going to run into issues with having too many subqueries? (If there even is such a thing) Are there any better/smarter ways to perform this query?

Controller changes format on variables when publishing

I am a newbie to ROR but catching on quickly. I have been working on this problem for a couple of hours now and it seems like a bug. I does not make any sense. I have a database with the following migration: class CreateWebsites < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :websites do |t| t.string :name t.integer :estimated_value t.string :webhost t.string :purpose t.string :description t.string :tagline t.string :url t.integer :adsense t.integer :tradedoubler t.integer :affiliator t.integer :adsense_cpm t.boolean :released t.string :empire_type t.string :oldid t.string :old_outlink_policy t.string :old_inlink_policy t.string :old_priority t.string :old_profitability t.integer :priority_id t.integer :project_id t.integer :outlink_policy_id t.integer :inlink_policy_id t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :websites end end I have verified that what is created in the database also is integers, strings etc according to this migration. I have not touched the controller after generating it through scaffold, i.e. it is the standard controller with show, index etc. Now. When I enter data into the database, either through the web form, in rails console or directly in the database - such as www.domain.com for url or 500 for adsense - it will be created in the db without problem. However, when it is being published on the website the variables go completely nuts. Adsense (integer) turns into date, url (string) turns into a float, and so on. This only happens to a few of the variables. This will also create a problem with "argument out of range" since I input 500 and Rails will try to output it as date = crash and "argument out of range". So, how do I fix/trouble shoot this? Why do the formats change? Could it be because of the respond_to in the controller? Cheers, Christoffer
