    I'm doing some tests in a 2010 Information Worker Demonstration and Evaluation Virtual Machine (SP1). However, after a few days (maybe ~180), Office is now saying that it needs to be activated. I've tried rearming with OSPPREARM.EXE, but I get the following error: "The security processor reported that the maximum allowed number of re-arms has been exceeded. You must re-install the OS before trying to re-arm again." How can I circumvent this, without losing all the data I have in the VM?

  • How to set ulimits in Solaris 10

    I normally use pam_limits.so and /etc/security/limits.conf to set ulimits on filesize/cputime etc for the regular users logging in to my server running Ubuntu. Can anyone give the best way of doing similar with Solaris 10. I think it is done using /etc/system but have no idea what to add to the file or indeed if it is the correct file. I'm particularly interested in setting up ulimit -f without going down the .profile route.

    I'm trying to setup a peer-to-peer OpenVPN between two pfsense servers running 2.0.1-RELEASE, but the client keeps getting the connection dropped, with a status of "reconnecting; ping-restart" and nothing appears to be routing between them. Both these firewalls are also doing PPTP VPNs that are working correctly.   • Enable VRFY verb in Exchange 2007

    Is there a way to enable the VRFY command on the Exchange server. I know this command is a security risk, but the server sits behind a firewall, and is not accessible from the internet. I would just use it as a in-box. The mail traffic would be forwarded from my home coded SMTP server, which would check for the existence of the exchange mailbox with the VRFY command. I only found this on the internet, but this is only for legacy versions of Exhange.

  • Cannot Start Nginx Compiled from Source

    I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. Below is the [ lengthy process ] that I am performing - add sorry but I wanted to be thorough for those who are in need of the info ]. Because I am a newB to Nginx, I am sure I am missing something or just have it all wrong. And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing??   • Internet Explorer keeps asking for NTLM credentials in Intranet zone

    Long text, sorry for that. I'm trying to be as specific as possible. I'm on Windows 7 and I experience a very frustrating Internet Explorer 8 behavior. I'm in a company LAN with some intranet servers and a proxy for connecting with the outside world. On sites that are clearly recognized as being "Local Intranet" (as indicated in the IE status bar) I keep getting "Windows Security" dialog boxes that ask me to log in. These pages are served off an IIS6 with "Integrated Windows Security" enabled, NTFS permits Everyone:Read on the files themselves. If I enter my Windows credentials, the page loads fine. However, the dialog boxes will be popping up the next time, regardless if I ticked "Remember my credentials" or not. (Credentials are stored in the "Credential Manager" but that does not make any difference as to how often these login boxes appear.) If I click "Cancel", one of two things can happen: Either the page loads with certain resources missing (images, styleheets, etc), or it does not load at all and I get HTTP 401.2 (Unauthorized: Logon Failed Due to Server Configuration). This depends on whether the logon box was triggered by the page itself, or a referenced resource. The behavior appears to be completely erratic, sometimes the pages load smoothly, sometimes one resource triggers a logon message, sometimes it does not. Even simply re-loading the page can result in changed behavior. I'm using WPAD as my proxy detection mechanism. All Intranet hosts do bypass the proxy in the PAC file. I've checked every IE setting I can think of, entered host patterns, individual host names, IP ranges in every thinkable configuration to the "Local Intranet" zone, ticked "Include all sites that bypass the proxy server", you name it. It boils down to "sometimes it just does not work", and slowly I'm losing my mind. ;-) I'm aware that this is related to IE not automatically passing my NTLM credentials to the webserver but asking me instead. Usually this should only happen for NTLM-secured sites that are not recognized as being in the "Intranet" zone. As explained, this is not the case here. Especially since half of a page can load perfectly and without interruption and some page's resources (coming from the same server!) trigger the login message. I've looked at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303650, which gives the impression of describing the problem, but nothing there seems to work. And frankly, I'm not certain if "manually editing the registry" is the right solution for this kind of problem. I'm not the only person in the world with an IE/intranet/IIS configuration, after all. I'm at a loss, can somebody give me a hint?

  • Outlook unable to synchronize SharePoint library - error 0x80004005

    We have one large library (~10 GB) on SharePoint that cannot be synchronized with Outlook, even if you only attempt to synch one of the smaller sub folders in the library. Other libraries (or other library sub folders) work fine with Outlook. This is with MOSS 2007 SP1 and Outlook 2007 SP2. The error is: Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x80004005): 'An error occurred either in Outlook or SharePoint. Contact the SharePoint site administrator.' Reproducing the error Open up the large SharePoint document library in Internet Explorer From the Actions menu, select Connect to Outlook Select Allow on the stssync: security warning that pops up Outlook automatically tries an initial sync and sync status immediately shows the above error. Update 1: I verified the same issue occurs on Windows XP SP3 with IE 6 using Outlook 2007 SP2 and the same SharePoint library (it was originally tested on Windows 7). The issue is definitely related to the library or Outlook. Update 2: Using stsadm I exported the site with this large document library (8.6 GB 15,000 items) and imported it on to a development system. The result is the same on the development system - multiple clients are unable to connect Outlook to the library and get the 0x80004005 error above.

    I've scanned my new webserver and I'm surprised to find that in the results there's programs that I never installed. This is a fresh new install of Ubuntu 12.04 and just installed Php 5.3, mysql, fail2ban, apache2, git, a few other things.     I'm running Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.1 against some servers that don't have outbound access to the Internet, by design of firewall restrictions, and therefore I'm wishing to run MBSA in offline mode. In order to do so, I need the list of updates in the file named "wsusscn2.cab". Is there a well-known page or URL at Microsoft for downloading the most up-to-date version of that file for MBSA offline mode? Thank you.

  • netsh wlan add profile not importing encrypted passphrase

    I exported a wireless network connection profile from a Windows 7 machine correctly connected to a WiFi network with a WPA-TKIP passphrase. The exported xml file shows the correct settings and a keyMaterial node which I can only guess is the encrypted passphrase. When I take the xml to another Windows 7 computer and import it using netsh wlan add profile filename="WiFi.xml", it correctly adds the profile's SSID and encryption type, but a balloon pops up saying that I need to enter the passphrase. Is there a way to import the passphrase along with all other settings or am I missing something about adding profiles? However I didn't know how Sysprep worked before attempting this so it was a time-consuming nightmare (even after reviewing VMware vSphere ESXi 5's documentation)! I think I've figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, but it's still not working. The biggest problem at this point is that vSphere Client vCenter Customization Specification IP address information is not sticking when I load a Sysprep XML file with just 1 basic setting! This can only be a bug.     I have 30 different RHEL 5.5 machines that will not update some 33 packages via Yum. Does anyone know why these packages will not install and how to correct this?     I need a basic FTP server on Linux (CentOS 5.5) without any security measure, since the server and the clients are located on a test LAN, not connected to the rest of the network, which itself uses non-routable IP's behind a NAT firewall with no incoming access to FTP. Some people recommend Vsftpd over PureFTPd or ProFTPd. I had to setup an error document 503 ErrorDocument 503 /maintenance.html in the apache configuration and somehow I managed to get it work and the error page is server by apache when tomcat is stopped. Developers created a good looking error page(an html page which calls css and jpg) and I'm asked to get this page served by apache when tomcat is down. When I tried with JkUnMount /*.css in the virtual hosting, the actual tomcat jsp pages didn't work properly(lost the format) as the tomcat applications uses jsp, css, js, jpg and so on. I'm trying if it is possible to get .css and .jpg served by both apache and tomcat so that when the tomcat is down I'll get css and jpg serverd by apache and the proper error document is served. Anyone has any technique?     When I remote desktop to my Windows Server 2008 (a hosted virtual server) I see a login screen showing an icon for each user in the system. I can click on a user then enter a password and login. This is a terrible security oversight in my opinion as it gives anyone that might want to compromise my server a full list of valid usernames. Is there a way to revert to the old style of login screen requiring both username and password? Thanks
