• Separate "Year" to several worksheets according to one column....

  hello! This task is driving me mad... please help! Instead of manually type in the data, i have used VBA to find the year range, put into one column and delete all duplicate ones. But since excel could give more than 20 years, it would be tedious to do all the filtering manually. AND, now i need excel to separate the rows that contain the specific year range in any one the three columns and put them into a new sheet. e.g. The years that excel could find in the three columns(F:H) are ( 2001,2003,2006,2010, 2012,2020.....2033).. and they are pasted in column "S" in sheet 1. How could i tell excel create new sheets for the years ( sheets 2001, sheets 2003, sheet2006....),search through column (F:H) in sheet 1 to see if ANY of those columns contain that year, and paste them into the new sheet. To be more specific, in the newly created "Sheet 2001", the entire row where column(F:H) contains "2001" should be pasted. and in the newly created "Sheet 2033", the entire row where column(F:H) contains "2033" should be pasted..   I'm trying to write a php function that gets all the basic food data(this part works fine in my code) Then grabs all the ingredients related to the ids of the selected items from the query before. Anyone have have any idea why my second array keeps coming back as false? • Require reasonably random results from an SQL SELECT query within a Joomla article (Cache enabled)

  Setup: Joomla website on LAMP stack I have a MySQL table containing some records, these are queried by a simple SELECT on the Joomla article, as pasted below. This specific Joomla website has Caching turned on in Joomla's Global Configuration. I need to randomize the order in which I display the resultset, each time the page is loaded. Regular php/mysql would offer me two approaches for this: 1. use 'order by RAND()' or any of a number of methods to allow a SELECT query to return reasonably random results. 2. once php gets the result from the SELECT into an array, shuffle the array to get a reasonably random order of array items. However, as this Joomla instance has Caching turned ON in its Global Configuration, either of the above approaches fails. The first time I load the page the order is randomized, however any further reloads do not cause the order to change, as the page is delivered from cache. The instant the Cache is disabled, both approaches (shuffle/order by rand) work perfectly. What am I missing? How do I override the Global Cache for this specific article? A very simple requirement, that is met by both php and mysql reasonably well, is blocked by the Joomla Cache that I cannot turn off. • Fixing Chrome resizing behaviour

Adding a height attribute on the parent <div> may help, but if the height of the content is not known beforehand, this will not be feasible. • Hibernate saveOrUpdate fails when I execute it on empty table.

  I'm try to insert or update db record with following code: Category category = new Category(); category.setName('catName'); category.setId(1L); categoryDao.saveOrUpdate(category); When there is a category with id=1 already in database everything works. But if there is no record with id=1 I got following exception: org.hibernate.StaleStateException: Batch update returned unexpected row count from update [0]; actual row count: 0; expected: 1: Here is my Category class setters, getters and constructors ommited for clarity: @Entity public class Category { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) private Long id; private String name; @ManyToOne private Category parent; @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.LAZY, mappedBy = "parent") private List<Category> categories = new ArrayList<Category>(); } In the console I see this hibernate query: update Category set name=?, parent_id=? where id=? • GridView edit problem If primary key is editable (design problem)

  I would like to ask about the design of table based on it's editability in a Grid View. Let me explain. For example, I have a table named ProductCustomerRel. Method 1 CustomerCode varchar PK ProductCode varchar PK StoreCode varchar PK Quantity int Note text So the combination of the CustomerCode, StoreCode and ProductCode must be unique. The record is displayed on a gridview. The requirement is that you can edit the customer, product and storecode but when the data is saved, the PK constraint must still persist. The problem here is it would be natural for a grid to be able to edit the 3 primary key, you can only achieve the update operation of the grid view by first deleting the row and then inserting the row with the updated data. An alternative to this is to just update the table and add a SeqNo, and just enforce the unique constraint of the 3 columns when inserting and updating in the grid view. Method 2 SeqNo int PK CustomerCode varchar ProductCode varchar StoreCode varchar Quantity int Note text My question is which of the two method is better? or is there another way to do this?

• Passing data to a jQuery click() function

  Hi I have a simple span like so <span class="action removeAction">Remove</span> This span is within a table, each row has a remove span. And then I call a URL using AJAX when that span is clicked. The AJAX event needs to know the ID of the object for that row? What is the best way of getting that ID into the click function? I thought I could do something like this <span class="action removeAction" id="1">Remove</span> But an ID should not start with a number? Right? Then I thought I could do <span class="action removeAction" id="my1">Remove</span> Then just strip the 'my' part from the ID, but that just seems Yuk! • Array Indexing Properties of A Class

  I have a class that has several properties: class Person { string Name; int Age; DateTime BirthDate; } Then I have a sort of wrapper class with a List<Person>. Within this wrapper class I want to be able to do something like Wrapper["Name"] that returns a new List<string> using .Select(x=>x.Name). How do I create a wrapper class around an IEnumerable that supports mapping a string to the Property name? Something like the pseudo code below, but obviously it doesn't work. I'm 99.9% sure the solution will have to use Reflection and thats fine. class Wrapper { List<Person> PersonList; List<dynamic> this[string Column] { return PersonList.Select(x => x.[Column]).ToList(); } } This may not seem like a good design, but its a fix to eventually enable the correct design from .NET 2.0 days. As I have it right now, the data is stored in Columns, so there is actually a List of Lists within my class right now. Using the above example there would be three ILists (with a string Title) Name, Age, and Birthdate. Everything is currently predicated on addressing the columns by their "string" name. I'm trying to convert the data structure to row based with an IEnumberable interface to allow Linq eventually while still maintaining the functionality of my current code. Is converting the code to a Row based IEnumberable a good idea?

  I'm building a widget which displays some text. By widget I mean the kind which lies on the desktop. The problem is that I want to change text's font at runtime. • getting string.substring(N) not to choke when N > string.length

  I'm writing some code that takes a report from the mainframe and converts it to a spreadsheet. They can't edit the code on the MF to give me a delimited file, so I'm stuck dealing with it as fixed width. It's working okay now, but I need to get it more stable before I release it for testing. My problem is that in any given line of data, say it could have three columns of numbers, each five chars wide at positions 10, 16, and 22. If on this one particular row, there's no data for the last two cols, it won't be padded with spaces; rather, the length of the string will be only 14. So, I can't just blindly have dim s as string = someStream.readline a = s.substring(10, 5) b = s.substring(16, 5) c = s.substring(22, 5) because it'll choke when it substrings past the length of the string. I know I could test the length of the string before processing each row, and I have automated the filling of some of the vsariables using a counter and a loop, and using the counter*theWidthOfTheGivenVariable to jump around, but this project was a dog to start with (come on! turning a report into a spreadsheet?), but there are many different types of rows (it's not just a grid), and the code's getting ugly fast. I'd like this to be clean, clear, and maintainable for the poor sucker that gets this after me. If it matters, here's my code so far (it's really crufty at the moment). You can see some of my/its idiocy in the processSection#data subs So, I'm wondering 1) is there a way baked in to .NET to have string.substring not error when reading past the end of a string without wrapping it in a try...catch? and 2) would it be appropriate in this situation to write a new string class that inherits from string that has a more friendly substring function in it? ETA: Thanks for all the advice and knowledge everyone. I'll go with the extension. Hopefully one of these years, I'll get my chops up enough to pay someone back in kind. :)

• Handling primary key duplicates in a data warehouse load

  I'm currently building an ETL system to load a data warehouse from a transactional system. The grain of my fact table is the transaction level. In order to ensure I don't load duplicate rows I've put a primary key on the fact table, which is the transaction ID. I've encountered a problem with transactions being reversed - In the transactional database this is done via a status, which I pick up and I can work out if the transaction is being done, or rolled back so I can load a reversal row in the warehouse. However, the reversal row will have the same transaction ID and so I get a primary key violation. I've solved this for now by negating the primary key, so transaction ID 1 would be a payment, and transaction ID -1 (In the warehouse only) would be the reversal. I have considered an alternative of generating a BIT column, where 0 is normal and 1 is reversal, then making the PK the transaction ID and the BIT column. My question is, is this a good practice, and has anyone else encountered anything like this? For reference, this is a payment processing system, so values will not be modified, so there will only ever be transactions and reversals.

• Can't get findnext property of range class error

  I am trying to parse a report in Excel 2007. It is basically a report of accounting charge exceptions. The report has sections with a header for each type of exception. There are types of exceptions that are deleted from the report. I'm using a Do While loop to find each header and if the section needs to be deleted I have it do so. If nothing needs to be deleted the code works fine, but right after a section is deleted I get an "Unable to get the FindNext property of the Range Class" error. • Vectorize matrix operation in R

  I have a R x C matrix filled to the k-th row and empty below this row. What i need to do is to fill the remaining rows. In order to do this, i have a function that takes 2 entire rows as arguments, do some calculations and output 2 fresh rows (these outputs will fill the matrix).   Hi, i need some help with inserting multiple rows from different arrays into my database. I am making the database for a seating plan, for each seating block there is 5 rows (A-E) with each row having 15 seats. my DB rows are seat_id, seat_block, seat_row, seat_number, therefore i need to add 15 seat_numbers for each seat_row and 5 seat_rows for each seat_block. I mocked it up with some foreach loops but need some help turning it into an (hopefully single) SQL statement. $blocks = array("A","B","C","D"); $seat_rows = array("A","B","C","D","E"); $seat_nums = array("1","2","3","4","5","6","7","8","9","10","11","12","13","14","15"); foreach($blocks as $block){ echo "<br><br>"; echo "Block: " . $block . • Which of these methods provides for the fastest page loading?

  I am building a database in MySQL that will be accessed by PHP scripts. I have a table that is the activity stream. This includes everything that goes on on the website (following of many different things, liking, upvoting etc.). From this activity stream I am going to run an algorithm for each user depending on their activity and display relevant activity. Should I create another table that stores the activity for each user once the algorithm has been run on the activity or should I run the algorithm on the activity table every time the user accesses the site? UPDATE:(this is what is above except rephrased hopefully in an easier to understand way) I have a database table called activity. This table creates a new row every time an action is performed by a user on the website. Every time a user logs in I am going to run an algorithm on the new rows (since the users last login) in the table (activity) that apply to them. For example if the user is following a user who upvoted a post in the activity stream that post will be displayed when the user logs in. I want the ability for the user to be able to access previous content applying to them. Would it be easiest to create another table that saved the rows that have already been run over with the algorithm except attached to individual users names? (a row can apply to multiple different users)

• why does my <br> not work ?

  I am returning a PHP array back to a JQuery call for appending into a div called "name-data". I want my array to be listed vertically, so I concatenate a br tag in the PHP however, when it gets to the HTML page the br is not being rendered, it just comes out as text. • Deleting from 2 arrays of dictionaries

  I have an array of dictionaries loaded from a plist (below) called arrayHistory. <plist version="1.0"> <array> <dict> <key>item</key> <string>1</string> <key>result</key> <string>8.1</string> <key>date</key> <date>2009-12-15T19:36:59Z</date> </dict> ... </array> </plist> I filter this array based on 'item' so that a second array, arrayHistoryDetail has the same structure as arrayHistory but only contains e.g. 'item's equal to '1'. These detail items are successfully displayed in a tableView. I then want to select an item from the tableView, and delete it from the tableView data source, arrayHistoryDetail (line 2 in the code below) - works, then I want to delete the item from the tableView itself (line 3 in the code below) - also works. My problem is that I also need to delete it from the original arrayHistory, so I tried the following: created a temporary dictionary as an ivar: NSMutableDictionary *tempDict; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableDictionary *tempDict; Then my thinking was to make a copy in line 1 and remove it from the original array in line 4. 1 tempDict = [arrayHistoryDetail objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; 2 [arrayHistoryDetail removeObjectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; 3 [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; 4 [arrayHistory removeObject:tempDict]; Didn't work. Could someone please guide me in the right direction. I'm thinking that tempDict is a pointer and that removeObject needs a copy? I don't know. Thanks.

• Extended Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract does not return values

  Hi, I'm quite new to Zend and the database classes from it. I'm having problems mapping a Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract to my rows. The problem is that whenever I try to map it to a class (Job) that extends the Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract class, the database data is not receivable anymore. I'm not getting any errors, trying to get data simply returns null. Here is my code so far: Jobs: class Jobs extends Zend_Db_Table_Abstract { protected $_name = 'jobs'; protected $_rowsetClass = "Job"; public function getActiveJobs() { $select = $this->select()->where('jobs.jobDateOpen < UNIX_TIMESTAMP()')->limit(15,0); $rows = $this->fetchAll($select); return $rows; } } Job: class Job extends Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract { public function getCompanyName() { //Gets the companyName for this row (Is on another table), just for example } } Controller: $oJobs = new Jobs(); $aActiveJobs = $oJobs->getActiveJobs(); foreach ($aActiveJobs as $value) { var_dump($value->jobTitle); } When I remove the "protected $_rowsetClass = "Job";" line, so that the table row is not mapped to my own class, I get all the jobTitles perfectly. • NSString , EXC_BAD_ACCESS and stringByAppendingString

  Hi, i wrote the following code : NSString *table = [[NSString alloc]initWithString:@"<table>"] ; for (NSDictionary *row in rows) { table = [table stringByAppendingString:@"<tr>"]; NSArray *cells = [row objectForKey:@"cells"]; for (NSString *cell in cells){ table = [table stringByAppendingString:@"<td>"]; table = [table stringByAppendingString:cell]; table = [table stringByAppendingString:@"</td>"]; } table = [table stringByAppendingString:@"</tr>"]; index++; } table = [table stringByAppendingString:@"</table>"]; return [table autorelease]; the rows are json response parsed by jsonlib this string is returned to a viewcontroller that loads it into a webview ,but i keep getting exc_bad_access for this code on completion of the method that calls it , i don't even have to load it to the webview just calling this method and not using the nsstring causes the error on completion of the calling method... any help will be apperciated thanks .
