• After tar extract, Changing Permissions

  Just a Question Regarding unix and PHP today. What I am doing on my PHP is using the Unix system to untar a tarred file. exec("tar -xzf foo.tar.gz"); Generally everything works fine until I run into this particular foo.tar.gz, which has a file system as follows: Applications/ Library/ Systems/ After running the tar command, it seems that the file permissions get changed to 644 (instead of 755). This causes Permission denied (errno 13) and therefore disabling most of my code. (I'm guessing from lack of privileges) Any way I can stop this tar command completely ruining my permissions? Thanks. Oh and this seems to only happen when I have a foo.tar.gz file that Has this particular file system. Anything else and I'm good.

  Hi, I'd like to iterate through every element on an iTunes window and try to click on each element. I'd also like to write to a text file showing each element that I've clicked. The code that I wrote below isn't working. Specifically, I get the error process "iTunes" doesn’t understand the click_an_element message. Thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?   Hi, From the signing documentation at http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-TW/guide/publishing/app-signing.html: When the system is installing an update to an application, if any of the certificates in the new version match any of the certificates in the old version, then the system allows the update. This indicates that an application can be signed with multiple certificates. This is an interesting option to allow multiple entities to sign an application. e.g: A system application which was initially signed by the device's manufacturer. Further updates could be signed by the developer. Am I misreading the documentation or is this really possible? If so, how? Is there any other way for an application to support different certificates and with that, having two or more entities sign it? Thanks, Rúben

  Hi Team, I have an interesting database design problem that I formulated while travelling by a bus, coming back from my home. Design a normalized database for a bus ticketing system (not reservation system). In each trip, the conductor of the bus will give tickets to its passengers after collecting fare from them. Passengers travel from a various source places to various destination places. The system must be able to give a report of the places for which the number of passengers was more than 2. Suppose the stops for the bus are L1,L2, L3 and L4 Suppose passenger P1 travels from L1 to L4. P2 travels from L2 to L4. P3 travels from L3 to L4. The report should list only (L3-L4) for which it has more than 2 travelers. • Tkinter after that survives clock rewinding.

  I noticed that in my version of Tkinter, the after() call does not survive system clock rewinding. If the after(x, func) was called, and the system clock was rewinded, func will be called only after the clock returned to its time before the rewind + x milliseconds. I assume this is because Tkinter uses the system-clock instead of the "time.clock" (the amount of time that the program is running). I tested it only on windows, and maybe its because I have an old version of Tkinter. I want my App to work on computers that synchronize their clock from the network... Does anyone have a simple solution?

• How do I play a video through .net in windows 7

  I had setup an app to play a video using the library suggested here this worked great for me for a long time until my machine was upgraded. In windows 7 I get the following exception that I'd never seen under XP: `System.BadImageFormatException: is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1) at MainApp.Controls.MediaControl.StopVideo() at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WmClose(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)` I've installed the June 2010 DirectX SDK and I'm still getting this error. Is there a different library I should be using or some setting that needs to be changed?

• Excel Macro to find text in cell and insert hyperlink on cell

  We're managing some system bugs in a web system and setting priority for execs in a spreadsheet. Each of the tickets has a "FD-" and four numbers as the ID. The web system has a hyperlink that has that "FD-####" at the end of the link. The end result would look like this -- http://www.mytickets.com/FD-#### I'd like to run a macro that finds all the FD-#### and inserts a hyperlink on each. There may be multiple FD-#### in a single cell and there will certainly be other text in there. I'd go through each and add the link but there are over 150 or so. Thanks!

  I want to change OpenJDK to SunJava in my ubuntu linux desktop , i have downloaded the "jdk-7.tar.gz" from sun's website, but there problem is how to make the system to use the newly downloaded java ? I tried adding the new jdk/bin/java to my PATH ( from .bashrc ) but that seem not to work (cause probably OpenJDK's path is inside my PATH variable as well , so the system checks that first) Here's my JDK7 : /usr/lib/jdk7/bin/java Here's what $(which java) outputs : /usr/bin/java Thanks in advance

  I have File Like "Sample.bak" and when I compress it to be "Sample.zip" I lose the file extension inside the zip file I meann when I open the compressed file I find "Sample" without any extension. I have used var and then iterating over it got the result. But without that any other way by which I can do it? Using C# 3.0 Thanks

  I've written program solving bounded producer & consumer problem. While constructing ArrayBlockingQueue I defined capacity 100. I'm using methods take and put inside threads. And I've noticed that sometimes I see put 102 times with any take's between them. Why does it happen? • C/C++ memory usage API in Linux/Windows

  I'd like to obtain memory usage information for both per process and system wide. In Windows, it's pretty easy. GetProcessMemoryInfo and GlobalMemoryStatusEx do these jobs greatly and very easily. For example, GetProcessMemoryInfo gives "PeakWorkingSetSize" of the given process. GlobalMemoryStatusEx returns system wide available memory. However, I need to do it on Linux. I'm trying to find Linux system APIs that are equivalent GetProcessMemoryInfo and GlobalMemoryStatusEx. I found 'getrusage'. However, max 'ru_maxrss' (resident set size) in struct rusage is just zero, which is not implemented. Also, I have no idea to get system-wide free memory. Current workaround for it, I'm using "system("ps -p %my_pid -o vsz,rsz");". Manually logging to the file. But, it's dirty and not convenient to process the data. I'd like to know some fancy Linux APIs for this purpose.

• How to run a restricted set of programs with Administrator privileges without giving up Admin acces (Win7 Pro)

  I have a shared system, running Windows7 X64, restricted to a 'standard user' with no password. Not everyone who has access to the system has the administrator password. This works rather well, except for some applications - specially the unlock-applications for encrypted hard drives/USB flash drives. The specific ones either require Administrator access (eg. Seagate Blackarmor) or simply fail without it -- since these programs are sending raw commands to a device, this is to be expected. I would like to be able to add the hashes of these particular programs to a whitelist, and have them run as administrator without needing any prompts. Since these are by definition on removable media, I can't simply use a filename or even a path. One of the users who shares the system can be considered 'crafty', so anything which temporarily grants administrator rights to an user account is certain to cause problems. What i'd like to be able to do: 1) Create an admin account that can only run programs from a whitelist (or, failing that, from a directory) I can't find a good way to do this: As far as I can tell, SRP applies equally to ALL users? Even if I put a "Deny" token on all directories on the system, such that new directories would inherit it, it could still potentially run things from the mounted USB devices. I also don't know whether it's possible to create a new directory that DOESN'T inherit from the parent, that would lake the deny token, and provide admin access. 2) Find a lightweight service that will run these programs in its local context Windows7 seems to block cross-privilege level communication by default, and I haven't found such for windows 7. One example seems to be "sudo" (http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~nfriess/sudo/) but because it uses a WLNOTIFY hook, it won't work under Vista nor Windows7 Non-Solutions: - RunAs: Requires administrator password! (but everyone calls it "sudo" anyway) - RunAs /savecred: Nice idea, but appears to be completely insecure. - RUNASSPC - Same concept as RunAs, uses "encrypted" files with credentials, but checks in user-space. - Scheduled Tasks - "Fixed" permissions make this difficult, and doesn't support interactive processes even if it did. - SuRun: From Google: "Surun uses its own Windows service that adds the user to the group of administrators during program start and removes him automatically from that group again"

• Enabling Squid delay pool eats up the entire memory

  I am using "squid-3.1.8-1.el5" in my CentOS 5 32 bit system. In normal condition Squid uses 85m - 90m, but when I enable the delay pool parameters the memory usage suddenly rise up 2GB. The memory keeps on increasing until the system is out of resource. The following are my delay pool settings: delay_pools 1 delay_class 1 1 delay_access 1 allow all delay_parameters 1 192000/192000 Is there anything I am missing here or is it a bug with Squid ?
