• Expose UserControl property to XAML

  WPF controls have certain properties (UserControl.Resources, UserControl.CommandBindings) that can have items added to them from the XAML of a user control declaration. Example: <UserControl ... > <UserControl.CommandBindings> ... </UserControl.CommandBindings> <UserControl.Resources> ... </UserControl.Resources> </UserControl> I have a new list property defined in my user control: public partial class ArchetypeControl : UserControl { ... public List<Object> UICommands { get; set; } I want to add items to this list like I can with resources and CommandBindings, but when I do this: <c:ArchetypeControl.UICommands> </c:ArchetypeControl.UICommands> I get the error "Error 4 The attachable property 'UICommands' was not found in type 'ArchetypeControl'. " Suggestions? - Given the comments, I've created a test control to show the entire code and reproduce the problem. • Cannot build/create dll in Visual Studio because of admin rights??

  I have local admin rights on the PC I am using - but some things are not allowed i.e. I can't right click on My Computer and see the properties! Anyway I was trying to build my solution in Visual Studio - I just added a simple class library with barely any code in it and it won't build, it gives the error: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Microsoft.Common.targets(3019,9): error MSB3216: Cannot register assembly "C:\Documents and Settings\fooUser\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\FooSolution\Foo.Bar\bin\Debug\Foo.Bar.Utility.dll" - access denied. Please make sure you're running the application as administrator. Access to the registry key 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Record' is denied. I take it I need FULL admin rights?? - although the project did compile before I made this class library - so I dont' understand why the addition of this library has had such a drastic effect now!

• fftw in Visual Studio?

  I'm trying to link my project with fftw and so far, I've gotten it to compile, but not link. As the site said, I generated all the .lib files (even though I'm only using double precision), and copied them to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib, the .h file to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include and the .dll to C:\windows\system32. I've copied the tutorial program, and the exact error I am getting is: 1>hw10.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__fftw_free referenced in function "bool __cdecl test(void)" (?test@@YA_NXZ) 1>hw10.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__fftw_destroy_plan referenced in function "bool __cdecl test(void)" (?test@@YA_NXZ) 1>hw10.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__fftw_execute referenced in function "bool __cdecl test(void)" (?test@@YA_NXZ) 1>hw10.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__fftw_plan_dft_1d referenced in function "bool __cdecl test(void)" (?test@@YA_NXZ) 1>hw10.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__fftw_malloc referenced in function "bool __cdecl test(void)" (?test@@YA_NXZ) So, what could be wrong with my project setup?   I'm trying to use F# for an ASP.NET MVC application. One my controller actions sends an F# list to the view, so I write: <%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="ViewPage<FSharpList<int>>" %> Of course, for this to work, I have to add Microsoft.FSharp.Collections to the namespaces element in my web.config: <add namespace="Microsoft.FSharp.Collections"/> and add a reference to FSharp.Core, in the assemblies element: <add assembly="FSharp.Core, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/> As soon as I add this assembly reference, every view (whether it uses an F# type or not) fails with this error: error FS1221: FSharp.Core.sigdata not found alongside FSharp.Core I can work around this by not having any F# specific types in my views, but what's the reason for this error? Also, where's FSharp.Core.sigdata ? It's not in my GAC and I can't find it anywhere.

• Unable to set TestContext property

  I have a visual studio 2008 Unit test and I'm getting the following runtime error: Unable to set TestContext property for the class JMPS.PlannerSuite.DataServices.MyUnitTest. Error: System.ArgumentException: Object of type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.TestTypes.Unit.UnitTestAdapterContext' cannot be converted to type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.TestContext' I have read that VS 2008 does not properly update the references to the UnitTestFramework when converting 2005 projects. My unit test was created in 2008 but it inherits from a base class built in VS 2005. Is this where my problem is coming from? Does my base class have to be rebuilt in 2008? I would rather not do this as it will affect other projects. In other derived unit tests built in 2005, all that we needed to do was comment out the TestContext property in the derived unit test. I have tried this in the VS 2008 unit test with no luck. I have also tried to "new" the TestContext property which gives me a different runtime error. Any ideas?

• Can I read an Outlook (2003/2007) PST file in C#?

  Is it possible to read a .PST file using C#? I would like to do this as a standalone application, not as an Outlook addin (if that is possible). If have seen other SO questions similar to this mention MailNavigator but I am looking to do this programmatically in C#. I have looked at the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook namespace but that appears to be just for Outlook addins. LibPST appears to be able to read PST files, but this is in C (sorry Joel, I didn't learn C before graduating). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Thank you all for the responses! I accepted Matthew Ruston's response as the answer because it ultimately led me to the code I was looking for. • Silverlight MouseLeftButtonDown event not firing

  For the life of me, I can not get this to work. I can get MouseEnter, MouseLeave, and Click events to fire, but not MouseLeftButtonDown or MouseLeftButtonUp. • Mixing Silverlight-Specific System.Xml.Linq dll with Non-Silverlight System.Xml.Linq dll

  I have a Logic layer that references Silverlight's System.Xml.Linq dll and a GUI that is in WPF (hence using the non-Silverlight System.Xml.Linq dll). When I attempt to pass an XElement from GUI project to a method in the Logic project, I am getting (basically) "XElement is not of type XElement" errors. To complicate matter, I am unable to edit the Logic layer project. The Non-Silverlight DLL is at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5\System.Xml.Linq.dll THe Silverlight DLL is at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v3.0\Libraries\Client\System.Xml.Linq.dll I am new to C# but I'm fairly sure my issue is that I am referencing different DLL's to access the System.Xml.Linq namespace. I attempted to replace my non-Silverlight System.Xml.Linq.dll with the Silverlight's System.Xml.Linq.dll, but received assembly errors. Is there any way to resolve this short of scrapping my WPF GUI project and creating a Silverlight project?

• WPF ShowDialog returns immediately

  Sometimes when I call ShowDialog on an OpenFileDialog Window in WPF, the dialog closes immediately with a return value of false. I'm calling ShowDialog in response to a button click event. I can reproduce this problem using the sample code for OpenFileDialog on MSDN: // Configure open file dialog box Microsoft.Win32.OpenFileDialog dlg = new Microsoft.Win32.OpenFileDialog(); dlg.FileName = "Document"; // Default file name dlg.DefaultExt = ".txt"; // Default file extension dlg.Filter = "Text documents (.txt)|*.txt"; // Filter files by extension // Show open file dialog box Nullable<bool> result = dlg.ShowDialog(); // Process open file dialog box results if (result == true) { // Open document string filename = dlg.FileName; } The problem occurs intermittently when I run my solution in Debug mode from Visual Studio 2008 SP1. • SSIS Configuration error: Cannot retrieve configuration table schema

  I'm trying to add a simple configuration to a SSIS package, of type SQL Server, so stored in a table. At the end of the wizard, when it goes to try and write a new row to the nominated table to store the configuration it fails with the error: TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio Could not complete wizard actions. Cannot retrieve configuration table schema. (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Wizards) I can't seem to resolve this. The configuration connection has full permissions on the table, and it sees it and can read from it as it reports there is no current data for the filter I provide. It just wont write to it. A Google search of the error message above in quotes returns literally no hits! Any suggestions? Glenn

• NATUPnP IStaticPortMappingCollection::Add returns HRESULT 0x80040214

  I'm attempting to use Microsoft's NATUPnP library to create a port mapping. Unfortunately, I'm unable to. My router supports UPnP, it is enabled, and I can create mappings with other (pre-built) applications. I can also read existing mappings. When I call the Add function, it fails and returns HRESULT 0x80040214 (which is undocumented). I have absolutely no idea what might be going on. IStaticPortMapping* newMapping = NULL; hr = portMappings->Add(27015, L"TCP", 27015, L"MYCOMPUTER", VARIANT_TRUE, L"TestMapping", &newMapping); You can see the reference for this function at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366148%28v=VS.85%29.aspx. The portMappings object is, of course, valid; I use it earlier in the code to enumerate over the existing mappings. If anyone has experience with this and might know what my problem is, I'd appreciate any help.

• XP Deploying issues due to msvcr90.dll trying to load FlsAlloc

  I have an application build with VS2008 SP1a (9.0.30729.4148) on Windows 7 x64 that does not want to start under XP. The message is The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application.. I checked with depends.exe and found that msvcr90.dll does try to load FlsAlloc from KERNEL32.dll - and FlsAlloc is available only starting with Vista. I'm sure it is not used by the application. How to solve the issue? • Installing Visual Studio 2003 on Windows 7 64-bit

  My team is currently supporting a 1.1 app and we are installing VS.NET 2003 on Windows 7. We haven't had any issues on the 32-bit machines, but FrontPage Server Extensions are failing to install on my 64-bit machine. Others on the Interwebs say that they have done this successfully, so I wanted to know if anyone here has and if they know of a solution. The specific issue is that FPSE (to clarify, I'm installing "FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions for IIS 7.0") fails to install correctly. In EventViewer I get the error: Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error #3004f Message: Unable to read configuration information for Microsoft Internet Information Server: ImpersonateLoggedOnUser Error. I've looded for errors with ImpersonateLoggedOnUser on 64-bit and did find a case where it fails on 64-bit when UAC is turned off (which I did have it off). I turned UAC back on, ran command prompt as administrator, and ran msiexec on the FPSE package. Still no dice. I have checked my server and the smallest amount of space left on any of the drives is ~4GB. The file size is 1MB. I have checked the database and the data file is on unrestricted growth. Any ideas?
