  • Database strucure for versioning and multiple languages

    Hi, I'm wondering how to best solve the issue of content existing in multiple versions and multiple languages. An image of my current structure can be seen here: http://i46.tinypic.com/72fx3k.png Each content can only have one active version in each language, and that's how I'm curious on how to best solve. Right now I have a column of the contentversions table, which means for each change of active version I have to run a update and set active=false on all version and then a update to set active=true for the piece of content in question. Any thoughts? :)

  • How can I reverse mouse movement (X & Y axis) system-wide? (Win 7 x64)

    Short Version I'm looking for a way to reverse the X and Y mouse axis movements. The computer is running Windows 7, x64 and Logitech SetPoint 6.32. I would like a system-level, permanent fix; such as a mouse driver modification or a registry tweak. Does anyone know of a solid way of implementing this, or how to find the registry values to change this? I'll settle quite happily for how to enable the orientation feature in SetPoint 6.32 for mice as well as trackballs. Long Version People seem never to understand why I would want this, and I commonly hear "just use the mouse right-side up!" advice. Dyslexia is not something which can be cured by "just reading things right." While I appreciate the attempts to help, I'm hoping some background may help people understand. I have a user with an unusual form of dyslexia, for whom mouse movements are backward. If she wants to move her cursor left, she will move the mouse right. If she wants the cursor to move up, she'll move the mouse down. She used to hold her mouse upside-down, which makes sophisticated clicking difficult, is terrible for ergonomics, and makes multi-button mice completely useless. In olden times, mouse drivers included an orientation feature (typically a hot-air balloon you dragged upward to set the mouse movement orientation) which could be used to set the relationship between mouse movement and cursor movement. Several years ago, mouse drivers were "improved" and this feature has since been limited to trackballs. After losing the orientation feature she went back to upside-down mousing for a bit, until finding UberOptions, a tweak for Logitech SetPoint, which would enable all features for all pointing devices. This included the orientation feature. And there was much rejoicing. Now her mouse has died, and current Logitech mice require a newer version of SetPoint for which UberOptions has not been updated. We've also seen MAF-Mouse (the developer indicated the version for 64-bit Windows does not support USB mice, yet) and Sakasa (while it works, commentary on the web indicate it tends to break randomly and often. It's also just a running program, so not system-wide.). I have seen some very sophisticated registry hacks. For example, I used to use a hack which would change the codes created by the F1-F12 keys when the F-Lock key was invented and defaulted to screwing my keyboard up. I'm hoping there's a way to flip X and Y in the registry; or some other, similar, system-level tweak out there. Another solution could be re-enabling the orientation feature for mice, as well as trackballs. It's very frustrating that input device drivers include the functionality we desperately need for an accessibilty concern, but it's been disabled in the name of making the drivers more idiot-proof.

    I'm emerging udev and it complains it couldn't find the kernel sources under /usr/src/linux (there's nothing inside /usr/src/ indeed). As a result, it tries to take the version from the currently running kernel and messes up thinking it's an older version than what it needs (when it actually isn't). So where are the sources so that I can properly link to them? And could I have done something wrong for them not to be in the right place?

    Hi, I have used WinDbg succesfully on a number of occasions to track down and fix memory leaks (or more accurately the CLRs inability to garbage collect a released object), but am stuck with one particular control. The control is displayed within a child window and when the window is closed a reference to the control remains and cannot be garbage collected. I have resolved what I believe to be the majority of the issues that could have caused the leak, but the !gcroot of the affected object is not clear (to me at least) as to what is still holding on to this object.     What items go into a software shop's development environment, how do you document it, and what processes do you follow to make changes? I thinking about this from the standpoint where I want to make it easier to bring new hires up to speed quickly by having all this on a checklist we follow when setting them up, and then while I'm at it making it easier for the new hires or existing team members to bring new powerful toolkits and ideas into the environment without disrupting things. I want to keep this platform agnostic, so even though I'm currently at a microsoft shop where Visual Studio would be assumed I'll go ahead and list compiler/IDE as one of the items: Here are some ideas for part 1: [edit]: I'm keeping this updated based on the better suggestions.   • Changing where a resource is pulled during runtime?

    I have a website that goes out to multiple clients. Sometimes a client will insist on minor changes. For reasons beyond my control, I have to comply no matter how minor the request. Usually this isn't a problem, I would just create a client specific version of the user control or page and overwrite the default one during build time or make a configuration setting to handle it. Now that I am localizing the site, I'm curious about the best way to go about making minor wording changes. Lets say I have a resource file called Resources.resx that has 300 resources in it. It has a resource called Continue. English value is "Continue", the French value is "Continuez". Now one client, for whatever reason, wants it to say "Next" and "Après" and the others want to keep it the same. What is the best way to accomodate a request like this? (This is just a simple example). The only two ways I can think of is to Create another Resources.resx specific to the client, and replace the .dll during build time. Since I'd be completely replacing the dll, the new resource file would have to contain all 300 strings. The obvious problem being that I now have 2 resource files, each with 300 strings to maintain. Create a custom user control/page and change it to use a custom resource file. e.g. SignIn.ascx would be replaced during the build and it would pull its resources from ClientName.resx instead of Resources.resx. Are there any other things I could try? Is there any way to change it so that the application will always look in a ClientResources.resx file for the overridden values before actually look at the specified resource file?

  • OpenSSL: SessionTicket TLS extension problem

    Hello, I'm using an application which uses OpenSSL for client TLS side. We upgrade the OpenSSL version from 0.9.8e to 0.9.8k. And then TLS doesn't work... Wireshark shows that the new version (with OpenSSL 0.9.8k) sends the client hello packet with a SessionTicket extension - and the server side responds with a fatal internal error. The previous version sends an almost identical hello packet, but without the SessionTicket ext. When I replaced TLSv1_client_method with SSLv23_client_method, everything worked fine - the sent client hello packet was a SSLv2 one (In the sniffer) without any extension (as it wasn't TLS but SSL?) Is there a better way to disable this extension or to solve the problem in another way? Thanks in advance, rursw1

    Hi, I don't know if this question would fit better on superuser.com, but since it's rather compiler related, I give it a try here. I have to use Qt with a specific version of gcc (4.5). I downloaded the last official Qt release for Windows (Vista, 32 bits version) and didn't install the shipped MinGW version; I just installed the Qt libraries/binaries. In a console, when I type qmake && make, make fails, complaining that 'g++' is not recognized as an internal command. If I type g++ in the same console, I however have the following output: g++: no input files So g++ is definitely recognized. For those who may ask, both the Qt binaries directory and MinGW binaries directory are in the system PATH environment variable. What could be wrong here ?

  • Managing changes in memory-based data format

    So I've been using a compact data type in c++, and saving from memory or loading from the file involves just copying the bits of memory in and out. However, the obvious drawback of this is that if you need to add/remove elements on the data, it becomes kind of messy. There's also problems with versioning, suppose you distribute a program which uses version A of the data, and then the next day you make version B of it, and then later on version C. I suppose this can be solved by using something like xml or json. But suppose you can't do that for technical reasons. What is the best way to do this, apart from having to make different if cases etc (which would be pretty ugly, I'd imagine)

    I edited my SSH configuration to accept connections on Port 213, as it was one of the few ports that my work firewall allows through. I then restarted sshd and everything was going well. I tested the ssh server locally, and checked the sshd service was listening on port 213; however, I still cannot get it to work outside of localhost. PuTTY gives a connection refused message, and some of the sites that allow check of ports I tried said the port was closed. To me, this is either firewall or port forwarding.   • Can folks that edit tags make sure they preserve the information that they would be editing away?

    I have notice that some folks edit the tags associated with questions to make the tag more generic, like converting netbeans6.8-netbeans. I think this is a good thing. BUT, most users/askers do not include version info in the text of their question and some of them do pick the 'versioned' tag. That additional info is valuable at that point. Please read the question before you edit version info out of tags. If the version info is not in the question's text.... take another moment to edit the text of the question, so the info is immediately available to folks that are trying to answer questions.

  • How do you verify that 2 copies of a VB 6 executable came from the same code base?

    I have a program under version control that has gone through multiple releases. A situation came up today where someone had somehow managed to point to an old copy of the program and thus was encountering bugs that have since been fixed. I'd like to go back and just delete all the old copies of the program (keeping them around is a company policy that dates from before version control was common and should no longer be necessary) but I need a way of verifying that I can generate the exact same executable that is better than saying "The old one came out of this commit so this one should be the same." My initial thought was to simply MD5 hash the executable, store the hash file in source control, and be done with it but I've come up against a problem which I can't even parse. It seems that every time the executable is generated (method: Open Project. File Make X.exe) it hashes differently. I've noticed that Visual Basic messes with files every time the project is opened in seemingly random ways but I didn't think that would make it into the executable, nor do I have any evidence that that is indeed what's happening. To try to guard against that I tried generating the executable multiple times within the same IDE session and checking the hashes but they continued to be different every time. So that's: Generate Executable Generate MD5 Checksum: md5sum X.exe > X.md5 Verify MD5 for current executable: md5sum -c X.md5 Generate New Executable Verify MD5 for new executable: md5sum -c X.md5 Fail verification because computed checksum doesn't match. I'm not understanding something about either MD5 or the way VB 6 is generating the executable but I'm also not married to the idea of using MD5. If there is a better way to verify that two executables are indeed the same then I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • MySQL PHP incompatibility.

    Ok maybe I've overlooked something really simple here, but I can't seem to figure this out. I'm running WAMP locally, but connecting to a remote MySQL database. The local version of PHP is the latest 5.3.0. One of the remote databases, being version 5.0.45 works fine. However, the other remote database I'm trying to connect to, which is version 5.0.22 throws the following error before dying: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: OK packet 6 bytes shorter than expected. PID=5880 in ... Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using old authentication in ... WTF? UPDATE: Reverting to PHP 5.2.* i.e. anything lower than 5.3.0 resolves the problem completely. As long as I am not running 5.3.0 I can connect to both databases. I'm not sure what the explanation is for this weirdness.

If I access my website using the public domain name like this: h t t p://www.mydomain.com and then go to the page where my SL control is, I get the spinning % numbers up until about 98%, then it quits and my SL control does not appear on the page. If I access my website using the machine name (website is at datacenter, we have vpn setup) like this: h t t p://machinename and then go to the page where my SL control is everything works fine. this must be a ClientAccess Policy issue don't your think? Or what DO you thnik the issue is? Thanks in advance.     To keep myself interested, I try to put little Easter Eggs in my projects (mostly to amuse myself). I've seen some websites where you can type a series of letters "aswzaswz" and you get a "secret function" - how would I achieve this in C#? I've assigned a "secret function" in the past by using modifier keys bool showFunThing = (Control.ModifierKeys & Keys.Control) == Keys.Control; but wanted to get a bit more secretive (without the modifier keys) I just wanted the form to detect a certain word typed without any input ... I've tried this: this.KeyDown +=new System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventHandler(OnKeyDown); and a couple of variations on this but I'm missing something because it won't fire (or compile). It tells me that the OnKeyDown method is expecting a certain signature but I've got other methods like this where I haven't specified arguments. I fear that I may have got myself confused so I am turning to SO for help ... anyone?
