  • Netbeans / persistence API error

    I am following this tutorial, I'm using netbeans 6.5.1 http://www.netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db-custom.html When I get to the part where I create the "new entity class from database", which is in the "Customizing the Master/Detail View" section of the tutoiral. I can't ever compile because I get this error in the task list (and I get a runtime error when I run)... Atleast I think these two are related. Error Named queries can be defined only on an Entity or MappedSuperclass class.   • Problem upgrading eclipse rcp app from 3.3 to 3.5 on Mac OS

    I previously had an eclipse rcp app based on eclipse 3.3 pugins deployed on both windows and mac OS X 10.4. i'm now trying to port the app to java 1.6 and eclipse 3.5 (Build id: 20100218-1602) plugins on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). I can launch the product from eclipse 3.5 on windows but not on Mac OS X. I have the 64bit cocoa eclipse IDE and java 6. In the launch configuration I set runtime JRE to JVM 1.6.0 and added required plugins.   • java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in command line

    Hi, I'm developing an application in Eclipse and it runs fine from within Eclipse. The problem I'm having is that when I export it to a jar file and run it from the command line I get a NoClassDefFound error for javax.mail.internet. In both my project build path and class path I have included the activation.jar and mail.jar libraries required for me to use javax.mail.internet, and like I said it works fine from within Eclipse but not when I export it to a jar. If my build path has those files and so does my class path why would this not be working?   • How to express inter project dependencies in Eclipse PDE

    I am looking for the best practice of handling inter project dependencies between mixed project types where some of the projects are eclipse plug-in/OSGI bundle projects (an RCP application) and others are just plain old java projects (web services modules). Few of the eclipse plug-ins have dependencies on Java projects. My problem is that at least as far as I've looked, there is no way of cleanly expressing such a dependency in Eclipse PDE environment. I can have plug-in projects depend on other plug-in projects (via Import-Package or Require-Bundle manifest headers), but not of the plain java projects. I seem to be able to have project declare a dependency on a jar from another project in a workspace, but these jar files do not get picked up by neither export nor launch configuration (although, java code editing sees the libraries just fine). The "Java projects" are used for building services to be deployed on an J2EE container (JBoss 4.2.2 for the moment) and produce in some cases multiple jar's - one for deploying to the JBoss ear and another for use by client code (an RCP application). The way we've "solved" this problem for now is that we have 2 more external tools launcher configurations - one for building all the jar's and another for copying these jar's to the plug-in projects. This works (sort of), but the "whole build" and "copy jars" targets incur quite a large build step, bypassing the whole eclipse incremental build feature and by copying the jars instead of just referencing the projects I am decoupling the dependency information and requesting quite a massive workspace refresh that eats up the development time like it was candy. What I would like to have is a much more "natural" workspace setup that would manage dependencies between projects and request incremental rebuilds only as they are needed, be able to use client code from service libraries in an RCP application plug-ins and be able to launch the RCP application with all the necessary classes where they are needed.     I try to start plink.exe (PuTTY Link, the command line utility/version of PuTTY) from a C# application to establish an SSH reverse tunnel, but it does no longer work as soon as I pass the correct parameters. What does that mean? The following works as expected: it opens a command line window, displays that I forgot to pass the password for the -pw argument quits, and shows the prompt. I know it got the arguments, since it specifically requests the one thing I did not provide.     I have 2 entities I want to link with KVO, one a single statTracker class that keeps track of different stats and the other an achievement class that contains information about achievements. Ideally what I want to be able to do is set up KVO by having an instance of the achievement class observe a value on the statTracker class and also set up a threshold value at which the achievement instance should be "triggered"(triggering in this case would mean showing a UIAlertView and changing a property on the achievement class.)   • Python subprocess: 64 bit windows server PIPE doesn't exist :(

    I have a GUI that launches selected python scripts and runs it in cmd next to the gui window. I am able to get my launcher to work on my (windows xp 32 bit) laptop but when I upload it to the server(64bit windows iss7) I am running into some issues. The script runs, to my knowledge but spits back no information into the cmd window. My script is a bit of a Frankenstein that I have hacked and slashed together to get it to work I am fairly certain that this is a very bad example of the subprocess module. Just wondering if i could get a hand :).   • How do you parse the XDG/gnome/kde menu/desktop item structure in c++??

    I would like to parse the menu structure for Gnome Panels (the standard Gnome Desktop application launcher) and it's KDE equivalent using c/c++ function calls. That is, I'd like a list of what the base menu categories and submenu are installed in a given machine. I would like to do with using fairly simple c/c++ function calls (with NO shelling out please). I understand that these menus are in the standard xdg format. I understand that this menu structure is stored in xml files such as: /home/user/.config/menus/applications.menu I've look here: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/menu-spec?action=show&redirect=Standards%2Fmenu-spec but all they offer is the standard and some shell files to insert item entries (I don't want shell scripts, I don't want installation, I definitely don't want to create a c-library from the XDG specification. I want to find the existing menu structure). I've looked here: http://library.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/menustructure-13.html.en for more notes on these structures. None of this gives me a good idea of how determine the menu structures using a c/c++ program. The actual gnome menu structures seem to be a horrifically hairy things - they don't seem to show the menu structure but to give an XML-coded description of all the changes that the menus have gone through since installation. I assume gnome panels parses these file so there's a function buried somewhere to do this but I've yet to find where that function is after scanning library.gnome.org for a couple of days. I've scanned the Nautilus source code as well but Panels seem to exist elsewhere or are burried well. Thanks in advance

    In order to do some multi-platform GUI development, I have just switched from GTK + Clojure (because it looks like the Java bindings for GTK never got ported to Windows) to SWT + Clojure. So far, so good in that I have gotten an uberjar built for Linux. The catch, though, is that I want to build an uberjar for Windows and I am trying to figure out a clean way to manage the project.clj file. At first, I thought I would set the classpath to point to the SWT libraries and then build the uberjar. This would require that I set a classpath to the SWT libraries before running the jar, but I would likely need a launcher script, anyway. However, leiningen seems to ignore the classpath in this instance because it always reports that Currently, project.clj looks like this for me: (defproject alyra.mana-punk/character "1.0.0-SNAPSHOT" :description "FIXME: write" :dependencies [[org.clojure/clojure "1.2.0"] [org.clojure/clojure-contrib "1.2.0"] [org.eclipse/swt-gtk-linux-x86 "3.5.2"]] :main alyra.mana-punk.character.core) The relevant line is the org.eclipse/swt-gtk-linux-x86 line. If I want to make an uberjar for Windows, I have to depend on org.eclipse/swt-win32-win32-x86, and another one for x86-64, and so on and so forth. My current solution is to simply create a separate branch for each build environment with a different project.clj. This seems kinda like using a semi to deliver a single gallon of milk, but I am using bazaar for version control, so branching and repeated integrations are easy. Maybe the better way is to have a project.linux.clj, project.win32.clj, etc, but I do not see any way to tell leiningen which project descriptor to use. What are other (preferably more elegant) ways to set up such an environment?

  • How to add deploy.jar to classpath?

    I am facing the problem: I need to add ${java.home}/lib/deploy.jar JAR file to classpath in the runtime (dynamically from java). The solution with Thread#setContextClassLoader(ClassLoader) (mentioned here) does not work because of this bug (if somebody can explain what is really a problem – you are welcome). The solution with -Xbootclasspath/a:"%JAVA_HOME%/jre/lib/deploy.jar" does not work well for me, because I want to have "pure executable jar" as a deliverable: no wrapping scripts please (more over %JAVA_HOME% may not be defined in user's environment in Windows for example, plus I need to write a script per platform) The solution with merging deploy.jar file into my deliverable works only if I make a build on Windows platform. Unfortunately, when the deliverable is produced on build server running on Linux, I got Linux-dependant JAR, which does not execute on Windows – it fails with the trace below. I have read How the Java Launcher Finds Classes and Java programming dynamics: Java classes and class loading articles but I've got no extra ideas, how to correctly handle this situation. Any advices or solutions are very welcomed.   • Updating entity fields in app engine development server

    I recently tried updating a field in one of my entities on the app engine local dev server via the sdk console. It appeared to have updated just fine (a simple float). However, when I followed up with a query on the entity, I received an exception: "Items in the mSomeList list must all be Key instances". mSomeList is just another list field I have in that entity, not the one I modified. Is there any reason manually changing a field would adversely throw something off such that the server gets confused? Is this a known bug? I wrote an http handler to alter the field through server code and it works fine if I take that approach. Update: (adding details) I am using the python google app engine server. Basically if I go into the Google App Engine Launcher and press the SDK Console button, then go into one of my entities and edit a field that is a float (i.e. change it from 0 to 3.5, for instance), I get the "Items in the mMyList list must all be Key instance" suddenly when I query the entity like this: query = DataModels.RegionData.gql("WHERE mRegion = :1", region) entry = query.get() the RegionData entity is what has the mMyList member. As mentioned previously, if I do not manually change the field but rather do so through server code, i.e. query = DataModels.RegionData.gql("WHERE mRegion = :1", region) entry = query.get() entry.mMyFloat = 3.5 entry.put() Then it works.

  • Best way to implement plugin framework - are DLLs the only way (C/C++ project)?

    Introduction: I am currently developing a document classifier software in C/C++ and I will be using Naive-Bayesian model for classification. But I wanted the users to use any algorithm that they want(or I want in the future), hence I went to separate the algorithm part in the architecture as a plugin that will be attached to the main app @ app start-up. Hence any user can write his own algorithm as a plugin and use it with my app. Problem Statement: The way I am intending to develop this is to have each of the algorithms that user wants to use to be made into a DLL file and put into a specific directory. And at the start, my app will search for all the DLLs in that directory and load them. My Questions: (1) What if a malicious code is made as a DLL (and that will have same functions mandated by plugin framework) and put into my plugins directory? In that case, my app will think that its a plugin and picks it and calls its functions, so the malicious code can easily bring down my entire app down (In the worst case could make my app as a malicious code launcher!!!). (2) Is using DLLs the only way available to implement plugin design pattern? (Not only for the fear of malicious plugin, but its a generic question out of curiosity :) ) (3) I think a lot of softwares are written with plugin model for extendability, if so, how do they defend against such attacks? (4) In general what do you think about my decision to use plugin model for extendability (do you think I should look at any other alternatives?) Thank you -MicroKernel :)

    Hi, I have an application that can import an XML file through this terminal command : open /path/to/main\ app.app --args myXML.xml This works great with no issues. And i have used Applescript to launch this command through shell and it works just as well. Yet when try using Cocoa's NSTask Launcher using this code : NSTask *task = [[NSTask alloc] init]; [task setLaunchPath:@"/usr/bin/open"]; [task setCurrentDirectoryPath:@"/Applications/MainApp/InstallData/App/"]; [task setArguments:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:[(NSURL *)foundApplicationURL path], @"--args", @"ImportP.xml", nil]]; [task launch]; the applications will start up to the initial screen and then crash when either the next button is clicked or when trying to close the window. Ive tried using NSAppleScript with this : NSAppleScript *script = [[NSAppleScript alloc] initWithSource:@"tell application \"Terminal\" do script \"open /Applications/MainApp/InstallData/App/Main\\\\ App.app\" end tell"]; NSDictionary *errorInfo; [script executeAndReturnError:&errorInfo]; This will launch the program and it will crash as well and i get this error in my Xcode debug window : 12011-01-04 17:41:28.296 LaunchAppFile[4453:a0f] Error loading /Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types: dlopen(/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types, 262): no suitable image found.   • 32-bit JVM on 64-bit Windows crashes on launch with -Xmx1300m and plenty of free memory

    I'm struggling with Java heap space settings. The default Java on Windows is the 32-bit client regardless of OS version (that's what Oracle recommends to all users). It appears to set max heap size to 256 MB by default, and that is too little for me. I use a custom launcher to start the application. I would like it to use more memory on computers with plenty RAM, and default to -Xmx512m on those with less RAM. As far as I'm aware, the only way is the static -Xmx setting (that has to be set on launch). I have a user who has 8 GB RAM, 64-bit Windows and 32-bit Java 7. Maximum memory visible to the JVM is 4G (as returned by querying OperatingSystemMXBean). I understand why, no issue. For some reason my application is unable to start for this user with -Xmx1300m, even though he has 2.3G free memory. He closed some applications (having 5G free memory), and still it would not launch. The error reported to me was: error occured during init of vm could not reserve enough space for object heap What's going on? Could it be that the 32-bit JVM is only able to address the "first" 4G of memory and has to have a 1300M block available within those first 4 gigabytes? How can I solve this problem, except for asking everyone to install 64-bit Java (what is unlikely to be acceptable)?
