  • Should a data warehouse developer know Powershell scripting?

    I am a SQL Server (2005 & 2008) data warehouse developer (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL) and I am wondering if it would be worth the effort and time to learn Powershell scripting. Are there applicable uses from a development perspective? I understand that from a DBA view there is considerable power in Powershell for administration - does any of this translate to useful commands for a developer? Thanks!

    I have to get the message structure of a protobuf message transfered to me without the message's definition. Using UnknownFieldSet methods, I was able to get a string representation of the message as below: 1: "a" 2: { 3:"b" 4:"c" } What data structure does field 2 represent ? Using UnknownFieldSet.Field.getGroupList i was able to get the content of field 3 and 4, does that means field 2 has the "deprecated" group structure ?

    I currently am working on a web application that needs to collect data from a form and will take the information and put it in a report format and sent it to a fax machine and print it out.   • How to load an external swf to the main stage from an instanced child class?

    Hi, I am trying to get an instance of a class to the load an external swf and show it. So far I have the following: 1) I wrote a class that uses the Loader class to load an external swf "loadExtSWF". 2) I have a fla named "MainSWF.fla" that uses a document class "MainSWF.as". 3) I have the MainSWF.as file that instances "loadExtSWF" and calls loadExtSWF.startLoad to load the swf. This almost works. The instance of loadExtSWF loads the external swf, but the swf is not displayed. If I replace the fla's document class with loadExtSWF (this has an empty constructor) instead of MainSWF, and run loadExtSWF.startLoad, then the external swf is loaded and displayed. It seems that the way I initially do it, loads the swf to the wrong stage (?). Any ideas? Thanks for the help. Bye, RaamEE P.S. If I have a listbox control and the Contol Item contains a datatemplate which renders out 5 fields ( first name, last name, email, phone and DOB) all of which come from an observable collection. How can I allow the user to select a listbox item and have the valuesbe stored within a new listbox control? Is this done through the creation of a new collection or is there a more simple way to bind these values to a new control? thank you,

    I have a complex XSD schema and hundreds of XML files conforming to the schema. How do I automate the creation of related SQL Server tables to store the XML data? I've considered creating C# classes from the XSD schema using the xsd.exe tool and letting something like Subsonic figure out how to make a shiny database out of it, but not sure if it's the best way to approach it. Has anyone managed to elegantly import XSD files into SQL Server?
