Is there any program to set the theme of x11 gnome applications under Mac OS X?
I've installed macports and gnome, but I cant find the gnome-theme-manager that I'm using when under linux.
What's the difference between VMWare Player vs Workstation? Is it that Player is for non-commercial use and workstation isn't?
For someone who builds and tests applications at home for non-commercial use, is it worth paying for a Workstation license? Do I get any benefits over Player?
(Note: I realize there's open source solutions like VirtualBox, but am more interested in the differences between Player and Workstation.)
Thanks!
On Windows 7, applications signed by "Microsoft Windows Publisher" don't prompt for elevation when UAC is turned on.
Is there any way that I can add my own code-signing certificate to the UAC exclusions list, to get the same behaviour?
I've got a couple of utilities that I always want to run elevated, so if I could sign them myself and install my self-signed CA certificate somewhere, and then bypass the UAC prompt, that'd save me time every morning when I log in.
I'm running Windows 7, and I installed an application that installed a global hot key (ctrl+shift+space) which conflicts with another application (Visual Studio) that uses that hotkey (though, not globally, only applications specific).
The question is, knowing which application it is (ScanSnap Manager) and that it doesn't have a setting to turn off the hot key, is there a way I disable it through Windows somehow?
Thanks!
I've downloaded the setup file, closed all applications and tried to run it. Early on I get the message "Error - setup cannot continue. Please uninstall old version CBU" which I assume is something to do with Comodo Backup. I've actually just updated Backup to V 2.2.127002.12 and cleaned the registry with Comodo Registry Cleaner and CCleaner but still get the error message.
Please advise on what to do next. I'm using Win Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Thanks
I have a Canon PIXMA MX700 connected by ethernet. When I first bought it I was using OS X 10.4, and scanner-initiated scanning worked fine. After upgrading to 10.6, neither scanner-initiated or scanning from MP Navigator EX works with the firewall enabled. The firewall lists exceptions for three applications:
Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.app
Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector.app
MP Navigator EX 1.0.app
I get no further blocked warnings, and /var/log/appfirewall.log lists nothing for today (my latest attempt to use it).
In Snow Leopard the Play / Pause media button (on the F8 key) opens up iTunes. How can I disable that? Preferably keeping the old Leopard behaviour, so I can use it to control other media applications (e.g. Spotify).
Win7's XP Mode virtual PC supports some features that aren't 'stock' with an XP Virtual PC such as a different start-up dialog, no Shutdown button, etc. Possibly the most significant is that applications installed within the XP Mode VM appear within the Windows 7 start-menu.
I have a need for multiple XP Mode VM's--is it possible to have 2 or more XP Mode vm's, or to otherwise enable these extra integration features in an XP Virtual PC?
So with free output what we care about with application memory usage is generally the amount of free memory in the -/+ buffers/cache line. What about with database applications such as Oracle, is it important to have a good amount of cached and buffers available for a database to run well with all the IO?
If that makes any sense, how do you figure out just how much?

On last Saturday(31 June 2012), Java applications suddenly started to use 100% CPU like described in this on some servers. The problem was recovered after restarted tomcat. It's similar to Java leap second bug but it happened during day not midnight. The time was around 17:35(GMT+9) on 31 June. Can cause of this problem be leap second?
I need to spell check documents about SQL Server applications. These will often mention "database..table". How do I get Word to ignore the double full stops?
I was using Ubuntu 9, then automatically updated it to 10, then the minimize, maximize and close buttons that used to be on top right were moved to top left. Among the three buttons, close was moved to the far left. Close is below Applications and above File. You have to look to the close button to close Windows now. Why?
As I know it is possible to boot up some bootable images (like Linux, Clonezilla, management applications and others) over a PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) server with an Ethernet device (802.3).
Can the same thing be done with an Ethernet WiFi (802.11) device? I tested with my notebook but my BIOS appears to not enable booting from WiFi devices. Is it possible with some specific WiFi cards and/or a specific BIOS?
Hi,
I have a client who is looking for a solution to integrate cctv with a (any) ANPR solution that can,I assume recognize the number plate of cars and store in a database and has the ability to post this data to other backoffice applications, crm, marketing app. etc.
Is there any ready software to do this ? Or your recommendations ?
Is it possible to configure loadbalancing on one server with IIS7?
What I would like is to have three applications in IIS7 (sites). One site should forward the requests to the other two sites (loadbalanced).
Problem is that at a customer of ours loadbalancing is used (with virtual servers). We on the other hand do not have (yet) a virtual environment and only one buildserver.
(maybe using Application Request Routing module?)
I want to cycle trough the windows of the currently active application on OSX. Some applications respond to ctrl+tab but they all seem to do something else. I want to switch between entourage mainscreen and the message I am writing for instance. Is there a such a keyword shortcut?
Hi, is it any easy way to route all traffic through a ssh proxy with -D?
I can configure individual specific applications to do this, but I would like a configuration that routes all the traffic on the machine. Thanks for your help!
I know that you can buy Pages, Numbers and Keynote for iPad. Another question is if it is possible to print documents made with those applications with iPad?
If so how? Only by WI-FI?
The newest QT has a feature to record or capture the current screen. My iMac 27 is too big if I want to record the whole screen. Can I designate a region or an application window for recording? I could not find a way to do that. Not sure if I have to use alternative applications to do it.
I mostly use free security solutions to protect my home PC, but I wonder if I would get better protection from a paid solution.
I prefer the free software, since I can have multiple applications protecting against different threats.
With paid software I feel like I have to choose just one, and hope it can protect against everything.
Is it worth it to pay for security when there are free options?
Hi,
Toast Titanium 10 offers a way of mounting an image into a virtual DVD drive so that it is viewed as being a separate physical drive by other applications.
I was wondering if there was a way of achieving the same result using the built-in OS X tools (whether GUI or command line), as I am aware it has many of such built in.
Thanks in advance!
Hi all,
Is there a good way to get gVim working as an IDE replacement? I'm moreso looking for suggestions for Intellisense-type plugins...code completion...maybe easy directory browsing (other than the standard 'edit.' command).
I'm building embedded applications in C...so I have no need to incorporate any debugging elements, and for the build process I can just have a console window open to call my batch file whenever it is required (or if I could call it through some hotkey combination in gVIM...that would be awesome as well).
I installed Proxifier an application that makes applications (that might not use the IE proxy settings) use a specific proxy, but right after installing it Windows Live Messenger stopped working. I was looking for alternative programs?
Thank you so much in advance!
I am a new Mac user and have an iMac. Coming from the Windows world where everything is installer based, OS X seems to mount .dmg files and run them. I've seen this happen prior to an install and later it requests us to move an icon to the Applications folder.
Could someone help me unclutter the install process on OS X. What or how does it work?
Thanks in advance!
