    I am trying to debug a simple web service. I have IIS 7 installed on my development machine (Windows 7), and have installed the web service. I can access it from my development machine, but not from any other machine in the local network.I opened the firewall to HTTP access, and I can access the default website from other machines, so it is not the firewall.What security settings should I look at to try to allow devices on the LAN to access the web service?

  • Wake On LAN on request

    Hi, I have a small home network with the router capable of running OpenWRT, is there some utility or firewall rule, which can be used to Wake On LAN on request. What I think - if I want to access my media centre (using for example SSH or HTTP) and it is suspended, is it possible to catch the ICMP packet (saying the machine is offline) and send the WOL packet to wakeup the machine and resend the SSH or HTTP request?   • How can I make my other computer run a program?

    If I have two computers, both running Windows 7, on my home network, is there some way to write a script so that I can click on a single icon on the one computer and make the other computer execute a program? Clearly, I could do this by accessing the other computer through remote desktop connection and then executing the program, but I would like to avoid (or at least automate) making the connection so I can just click a single icon to have it happen.

    I have two routers(A,B).the A connect to internet with IP:192.168.1.1 The openwrt router B connect the lan of A by bridge with static IP:192.168.1.111. I am learning to use iptables to control the devices connected to B(wlan) . I use my phone to connect wifi of B,the phone's IP is IP:192.168.1.100.it can surf the internet normally. I want to block the phone's IP to make the phone can not connect to internet. refer to http://bredsaal.dk/some-small-iptables-on-openwrt-tips iptables -A input_wan -s 192.168.1.100 --jump REJECT iptables -A forwarding_rule -d 192.168.1.100 --jump REJECT but it do not work.the phone still connect to internet normally. and I tried other chain(INPUT,OUTPUT,FORWARD).so many chains confused me. iptables -I OUTPUT -o br-lan -s 192.168.1.100 -j DROP and it do not work again.   • How can I automatically require a password when connecting to a WD MyBookLive?

    I have created a user which has specific privileges to access the shares on our WD MyBookLive Network drive (ie it requires a password to connect), however after connecting once Windows seems to remember the password (or at least for the rest of the session). How can I make it so it is necessary to require a password every time the user connects to the drive or makes some change on Windows? I am particularly thinking of Cryptolocker and other variants of "ransomeware" which will try and connect to the drive and encrypt it.

    I'm looking at allowing internet access for only a few scattered users on a school network. One method I'm considering is using 802.1x authentication for the modem. Of course there are simpler options like only allowing specific IP or mac addresses, but policy requires something more secure than this. So, are there any modems with 802.1x wired authentication? All my searching on this yields info about wireless.

  • Need to open port in a router for two internal PC's

    I have two PC's behind a comon internet router and one service running in another network that needs to connect with both PC's through internet using a specific port. To avoid dynamic IP issues I have configured NO-IP accounts in both computers and opened the port in their respective Windows Firewalls. My problem is that when I open the port in the router it only allows me to assign it to one of the computers, but not to both of them. Is there any solution to this?

    I'm running desktop Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell laptop. Previously it was Ubuntu 9.04. After some period of time (lets say 3-4 months) my X fails to start automatically after some restart calls. If that takes place my network manager applet doesn't start either (after I do startx). Can any one point out what I'm missing/what's the problem?

  • Wifi interference tool for Mac

    This Server Fault blog post shows some tools you can use to view interference on your wireless network: blog.serverfault.com/2012/01/05/a-studied-approach-at-wifi-part-2/. They mention Vistumbler, which only works on PC's. Is there a similar tool I can use to measure wireless interference on a Mac? Also, is it better to be on a channel with many AP's, each with a weak signal, or on a channel with only a few AP's, but a strong signal?

    Running Ubuntu 7.04. Samba is installed and running. Ubuntu server is connected to the internet thru an adsl modem. Rest of the network consists of windows-xp machines All xp machines can see the shared samba folders when internet access is on. If however , the internet access is interrupted , then the samba server cannot be viewed and no sharing occurs. Is samba folder sharing dependent on internet access ?

  • Ping issues with Windows Server 2008 R2 with mail server!

    For some reason I can ping all servers in my network except for the mail server and the mail server can ping all servers except the windows server 2008 R2. The firewall has been disabled and still it doesn't respond. The weird part is that every once in a while it will all of a sudden start allowing pings and then just as suddenly stop allowing pings. I've made sure there's no type-o's in the ip address or subnet mask or gateway. Any other ideas?

  • Hiding mapped drives for all users but letting programs access them

    What I'm looking for (and not sure if it's possible) is that we have 16 mapped network drives that are mapped when any user logs on, what I would like is to cut this down to just one visible drive yet leaving the other ones still usable to certain programs. I would just un-map them, however one of our constantly used programs writes to almost all of the drive letters so they need to be mapped for just that program, however they do not need to be visible to the user. Is this possible?

While the file is transferring, I would like to determine how many bytes have been received by the server. I then would like to use this information to determine in real-time the percentage of the file that has been transferred to the server. Any recommendations as to the ftp command syntax and C# code to achieve this?

    I'm noticing on MS Network Monitor a ton of NetBios Name Service broadcasts coming from a particular workstation. When I run netmon on that desktop it cannot resolve the application producing them (but does log them). First question, is this bad? Next question, what could be causing this so we can either move it to a server or stop it entirely?

All events are ID 538, 540 and 576 All events pertain to Security Audit of the machine itself logging in successfully. a typical entry is Event Id 540 Successful Network Logon: User Name: <machinename>$ Any pointers to how I can diagnose this? CPU and memory are normal on the machine.

The proxy of the network I'm on sends the follow 407: HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied. ) Via: 1.1 VANESSA Proxy-Authenticate: Negotiate Proxy-Authenticate: Kerberos Proxy-Authenticate: NTLM It seems that rhn_register is not able to any of the authentication schemes above.   • OS X - forwarding external port to local loopback address

    I have an HTTP service bound to port 8000 that I want to access from another computing on the network, but I can't seem to connect using the external IP address of the machine (e.g. 192.168.0.105). I've checked the OS X firewall isn't running, so I'm assuming the issue is the service is only bound to the IP address 127.0.0.1, and not the external IP address. What would be the easiest way to temporarily forward external connections on port 8000 to 127.0.0.1:8000?

  • Is there a way to setup a hotspot with a domain name rather than IP address?

    Basically I've setup a hotspot and its currently being accessed through an IP address. I'd like to use a hostname instead. This is for internal use only, meaning the ODROID device which is being used to as Access Point is connected to the internet via ethernet and only a few devices will access the AP. My setup details: Arch Linux on an ODROID U3 device, using hostapd and dhcp server. PS: I'm quite inexperienced with network so I might be missing something obvious here. Thanks in advance

    I have server on my local network which is exposed to the internet. I have domain pointed on my IP and setup forwarding. The thing i would like to do is when i access example.com from lan to connection be routed directly on my server, not to the nearest DNS. Things I had in mind were to upgrade router with dd-wrt and setup routing rule, or to setup local DNS. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with neither of those systems.
