• Developing Installer Packages, are Visual Studio Setup Projects suitable for complex setups

  Are "Visual Studio Setup" Projects suitable for complex setups in different versions? The application is rather large ( 500.000 lines of code) and is under continuous development. Every 6 to 10 month a new version gets released. We have multiple configuration files (INI and XML), registry keys, database migration scripts, etc. The application is in the progress of being migrated from VB6 to .NET . The old installer was build with Installshield. The feedback to Installshield is: Bad adaptability, bad reuse - thats way we are evaluating "Visual Studio Setup" as an alternative. Other products we consider: Free Solutions WiX NSIS Commercial Solutions Installshield (again..) Wise Advanced Installer sth. missing? Solutions we don't like to consider: Inno Setup (It just doesn't feel right)

  Hi, I have the following code in my XML (EDIT:) which I am trying to show in a RichText using htmlText. <ul> <li>List Item 1 <ul> <li>List Item 2</li> </ul> </li> </ul> Unfortunately, Flash doesn't seem to support nested lists, and I am getting output which looks like this: List item 1 List item 2 Where I want the second ul to be indented further.   I have a web service that returns a super simple list of objects MyObject[] data = webServiceCall(); MyObject has 1 field i want to display, "Name" (i.e. data[0].Name ) How can i turn this into an activity that lists just the name of these objects in a scrollable listActivity in android. I am getting really confused with Cursors and am not sure if I need Cursors and I"m not sure what kind of adapter to implement (baseAdapter, SimpleAdapter etc) So i guess i'm looking for three things, the activity , the adapter and the layout.xml Just trying to figure this android stuff out, definately a noob here

• ActiveReports nested subreport rendering resulting in error

  I'm having a problem with an ActiveReports(3.0) report which contains nested subreports. The problem is that the child/grandchild subreports are rendering before their predecessor has completed rendering so the XMLDataSource cannot be set properly. It seems to be a purely timing issue has occassionally if I am debugging the report in Visual Studio and stepping through the code the report will generate but mostly I get an error message: "FileURL not set or empty" The FileURL is supposed to be empty has we are dynamically loading the XML to the report. The structure of the report is: Parent Child1 Child2 GrandChild2-1 GrandChild2-2 I found one solution going back to 2004 on Data Dynamics website that you basically have to force the subreports to look at the parent. ((DataDynamics.ActiveReports.DataSources.XMLDataSource) subrpt.DataSource).FileURL = ((DataDynamics.ActiveReports.DataSources.XMLDataSource) this.DataSource).FileURL; This seemed to work for a while until I took out all my breakpoints and tried to run it and now it just gives me the error message. If anyone has ran across this or has any suggestions on getting around it, it would be greatly appreciated. Running ActiveReports 5.3.1436.2 thanks, Chris

• Why do I get a null pointer exception from TabWidget?

I've tried "getLayoutInflator()" instead of "LayoutInflator.from(this)" with the same result. If I replace the LayoutInflater line with "setContentView(R.layout.unit_view)" my program doesn't crash with a null pointer exception but my content is completely blank and empty. I get the tab and that's it. I've checked to make sure R.layout.unit_view and tabHost are not null when it runs the LayoutInflater line and they seem to be fine. They're defenitely not null. I've also checked to make sure LayoutInflater.from(this) returns a valid layout inflater object and it does. • IntelliJ 9, Glassfish 2.1.1 & Maven2

  I have a Maven2 project which I am editing in IntelliJ IDEA 9.0.2. I am trying to build it and debug it within a Glassfish 2.1.1 container. This is only working sometimes. Occasionally it is giving me an error, telling me it can't deploy. Other times, it deploys, but does not run the filtering on the POM, not replacing a variable in the sun-web.xml file (and other container specific files) leaving it as ${targetenv} instead of replacing it with the value it should. I think I am missing something here, and have something very confused, but I have no idea what. Any help would be most gratefully received.

  I have a list of Filemaker database names Each DB name has a list of field/attribute pairs associated with it I have a windows form application in C# 4.0 (vs2010) that wants to use the above data I would like to maintain the list either in the Visual Studio settings page, or in one of the standard visual studio settings files using the standard .NET settings calls I would like to avoid writing my own custom settings, xml, xds (to avoid the "Could not find schema information for the element/attribute " errors) I just have a slightly complicated INI file! I don't want to complicate my life! Do any easy solutions exist? Unless someone has a brighter idea, I am simply going to write string settings with names that indicate it's a FM DB (e.g. "fmdbAddresses"), and values that concat my field/attribute pairs (e.g. "gUserResult=skipField|gAddressID=convertToInt|gAddressID=uniqueIx")

• jQuery ajax doesn't seem to be reading HTML data in Chromium

  I have an HTML (App) file that reads another HTML (data) file via jQuery.ajax(). It then finds specific tags in the data HTML file and uses text within the tags to display sort-of tool tips.   Hi, I'm generating proxy using svcutil tool. My contract methods return objects of particular type. However generated proxy client interface has return value of type object. What is more I get exception with message: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail] : The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://tempuri.org/:name. The InnerException message was 'XML 'Element' 'http://tempuri.org/:name' does not contain expected attribute 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/:Type'. The deserializer has no knowledge of which type to deserialize. Check that the type being serialized has the same contract as the type being deserialized.'. Please see InnerException for more details. Any ideas what's going on?

• How to override ant task stored in ant lib directory

  At my work we use AspectJ in some of our Java projects. To get this to work with ant builds we have been placing aspectjtools.jar within ant/lib/. I am now working on a particular Java project and need to use a newer version of aspectJ. I don't want to have to get everyone who uses the project to update their local copy of aspectjtools.jar. Instead, I tried adding the newer aspectjtools.jar to the lib directory of the project and adding the following line to build.xml. <taskdef resource="org/aspectj/tools/ant/taskdefs/aspectjTaskdefs.properties" classpath="./lib/aspectjtools.jar" /> However, this doesn't work as I hoped as the ANT classloader loads jars from ant/lib/ in preference to the jar I specify in the taskdef classpath. Is there any way to force ant to pick the jar checked into my project instead?

• MIDL2003 Error in VC6 project

  While bug fixing I tracked a problem to an old vc6 compiled dll that hasn't been touched in nearly 3 years. After checking out the most recent source I am getting the following error when trying to compile. Processing C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT SDK\INCLUDE\msxml.idl msxml.idl .\ocidl.idl(1524) : error MIDL2003 : redefinition : IErrorLog .\ocidl.idl(1541) : error MIDL2003 : redefinition : IPropertyBag Google gives lots of suggestions regarding Visual Studio 2002 - 2003 errors but I can't find anything that relates to Visual Studio 6 or can be applied to my problem. I did find this page but following it's advice didn't fix my problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? (I am presuming that it did work once.) Other items of interest: I have the February 2003 Platform SDK installed, and looking at the add/remove program page I have Micrsoft XML Parser and SDK, MSXML 4.0 SP2 and MSXML 6.0 Parser too.

  Hi While researching how to create custom compound views in Android, I have come across this pattern a lot (example comes from the Jteam blog) : public class FirstTab extends LinearLayout { private ImageView imageView; private TextView textView; private TextView anotherTextView; public FirstTab(Context context, AttributeSet attributeSet) { super(context, attributeSet); LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); inflater.inflate(R.layout.firstTab, this); } } I mostly understand how this is working, except for the part where inflate() is called. The documentation says that this method returns a View object, but in this example the author does not store the result anywhere. After inflation, how is the new View created fromt eh XML associated with this class? I thought about assigning it to "this", but that seems very wrong. thanks for any clarification.

How many clients is it possible to have before it overlaods a wamp server? Basically how robust is Apache for this kind of stuff? • How do I create an Access 2003 MDE programmatically or by command line in Access 2007?

  I have a legacy Access 2003 database file that must remain in that format to preserve its menus and toolbars. I have recently moved to Access 2007 in my build environment and will be deploying the compiled Access 2003 program with the Access 2007 runtime. In Access 2003, I could script the process of creating an MDE with the Access Developer Extensions (WZADE.mde) using the command line and an .xml file of build preferences (without creating an install package). The Access 2007 developer extensions do not seem to offer a similar option. I can "Package a Solution", but it creates an accdr and buries it in a CD installer. I've tried programmatic options like Docmd.RunCommand acMakeMDEFILe and Syscmd(603, mdbpath, mdepath) but they no longer work in Access 2007. Of course, i can manually create an MDE using Database ToolsCreate MDE, but that is no scriptable as far as I can tell.

• Struts 1 - struts-taglib.jar is not being found by my web application

  I am using Struts-1. I have developed a struts-based web application. I am using struts tags in my JSP pages supplied in struts-taglib.jar by inserting the following lines in the JSP file: <%@ taglib prefix="html" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-html" %> <%@ taglib prefix="logic" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-logic" %> <%@ taglib prefix="bean" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-bean" %> Now the application is working fine when I run it on my localsystem but when I deploy it on a server, it shows the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://struts.apache.org/tags-html cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application From the above exception, it seems that the application hasn't found the struts-taglib.jar file. But I have put the struts-taglib.jar in /WEB-INF/lib directory. Then where is the problem? • DataContractJsonSerializer produces list of hashes instead of hash

  I would expect a Dictionary object of the form: Dictionary<string,string> dict = new Dictionary<string,string>() {["blah", "bob"], ["blahagain", "bob"]}; to serialize into JSON in the form of: { "blah": "bob", "blahagain": "bob" } NOT [ { "key": "blah", "value": "bob" }, { "key": "blahagain", "value": "bob"}] What is the reason for what appears to be a monstrosity of a generic attempt at serializing collections? The DataContractJsonSerializer uses the ISerializable interface to produce this thing. It seems to me as though somebody has taken the XML output from ISerializable and mangled this thing out of it. Is there a way to override the default serialization used by .Net here? Could I just derive from Dictionary and override the Serialization methods? Posting to hear of any caveats or suggestions people might have.

• Tomcat cookies not working via my ProxyPass VirtualHost

  Hi there. I'm having some issues with getting cookies to work when using a ProxyPass to redirect traffic on port 80 to a web-application hosted via Tomcat. My motivation for enabling cookies is to get rid of the "jsessionid=" parameter that is appended to the URLs. I've enabled cookies in my context.xml in META-INF/ for my web application. When I access the webapplication via http://url:8080/webapp it works as expected, the jsessionid parameter is not visible in the URL, instead it's stored in a cookie. When accessing my website via an apache2 virtualhost the cookies doesn't seem to work because now "jsessionid" is being appended to the URLs. How can I solve this issue?   Hi there, I recently edited the robots.txt file in my site using a wordpress plugin. However, since i did this, google seems to have removed my site from their search page. I'd appreciate if I could get an expert opinion on why this is so, and a possible solution. I'd initially done it to increase my search ranking by limiting the pages being accessed by google. I'd like to have a mapper method looking like this: public UserBean getUser(String userName, String password); Is there any way I can achieve something like that? Or maybe I should pass in my mapper method map of parameters (and some parameterMap in my xml mapper)? public UserBean getUser(Map<String, Object> paramMap); I'm looking forward for some hints and explanations.
