• Why do some user agents have spam urls in them (and why are they always Opera/Presto User-Agents)?

  If you go to (say) the last 100 entries (visits) to the botsvsbrowsers.com website (exact link, feel free to take a look: http://www.botsvsbrowsers.com/recent/listings/index.html ), you'd notice that almost every User Agent that has the keywords "Opera" and "Presto" inside them, will almost certainly have a web link (URL/Web Address) inside it, and it won't just be a normal web address, but a HTML anchor tag/link to that address. Why is this so, I could not even find a single discussion about it on the internet, nowhere, I tried varying my search terms many times. If the user agent contains the words "Opera" and "Presto" it doesnt mean it will have this weblink, but it means there is about an 80% change that it will. A typical anchor tag/link inside a user agent will look like this: Mozilla/4.0 <a href="http://osis-uk.co.uk/disabled-equipment">disability equipment</a> (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Presto/2.10.229 Version/11.60 If you check it out at the website, http://www.botsvsbrowsers.com/recent/listings/index.html you will notice that the back and forward arrows are in there unescaped format. This isn't just true for botsvsbrowsers, but several other user agent listing sites. I'm really confused and feel line I'm in a room full of 10,000 people and am the only one seeing this ghost :). If I'm doing statistical analysis, should I include or exclude this type of user agent from my listing (ie: are these just normal users who've set their user agents to attempt to drive some traffic to their sites as they browser the web), or is there something else going on? The fact that it is so consistent in terms of its format leads me to believe that it is an automated process (the setting or alteration of the user agent) so I cannot decide or understand the process by which this change is made (I know how to change a user agent), but unsure which program or facility is doing this, especially since it is exclusive to Opera (Presto) user agents that are beyond I think an 8 or 9 point something browser version. I've run some statistical tests, parsing entries from all over the place, writing custom programs, to get a better understanding of this. Keep in mind that I see normal URL's in user agents infrequently, they are just text such as +http://www.someSite.com appended to a user agent normally, especially if its a crawler or bot it provided its service URL, this is normal and isnt done with an embedded link (A HREF=) etc, so I'm not talking about "those".

• Building a Store Locator ASP.NET Application Using Google Maps API

  The past couple of projects I've been working on have included the use of the Google Maps API and geocoding service in websites for various reasons. I decided to tie together some of the lessons learned, build an ASP.NETstore locator demo, and write about it on 4Guys. Last week I published the first article in what I think will be a three-part series: Building a Store Locator ASP.NET Application Using Google Maps (Part 1). Part 1 walks through creating a demo where a user can type in an address and any stores within a (roughly) 15 mile area will be displayed in a grid.The article begins with a look at the database used to power the store locator (namely, a single table that contains one row for every location, with each location storing its store number, address, and, most important, latitude and longitude coordinates) and then turns to usingGoogle's geocoding service to translatea user-entered address into latitude and longitude coordinates. The latitude and longitude coordinates are used to find nearby stores, which are then displayed in a grid. Part 2 looks at enhancing the search results to include a map with markers indicating the position of each nearby store location. The Google Maps API, along with a bit of client-side script and server-side logic, make this actually pretty straightforward and easy to implement. Here's a screen shot of the improved store locator results. Part 3, which I plan on publishing next week, looks at how to enhance the map by using information windows to display address information when clicking a marker. Additionally, I'll show how to use custom icons for the markers so that instead of having the same marker for each nearby location the markers will be images numbered 1, 2, 3, and so on, which will correspond to a number assigned to each search result in the grid. The idea here is that by numbering the search results in the grid and the markers on the map visitors will quickly be able to see what marker corresponds to what search result. • ODEE Green Field (Windows) Part 2 - WebLogic

  Welcome back to the next installment on how to install Oracle Documaker Enterprise Edition onto a green field environment! In my previous post, I went over some basic introductory information and we installed the Oracle database. Hopefully you've completed that step successfully, and we're ready to move on - so let's dive in! For this installment, we'll be installing WebLogic 10.3.6, which is a prerequisite for ODEE 12.3 and 12.2. Prior to installing the WebLogic application server, verify that you have met the software prerequisites. Review the documentation – specifically you need to make sure that you have the appropriate JDK installed. There are advisories if you are using JDK 1.7. These instructions assume you are using JDK 1.6, which is available here. The first order of business is to unzip the installation package into a directory location. This procedure should create a single file, wls1036_generic.jar. Navigate to and execute this file by double-clicking it. This should launch the installer. Depending on your User Account Control rights you may need to approve running the setup application. Once the installer application opens, click Next. Select your Middleware Home. This should be within your ORACLE_HOME. The default is probably fine. Click Next. Uncheck the Email option. Click Yes. Click Next. Click Yes Click Yes and Yes again (yes, it’s quite circular). Check that you wish to remain uninformed and click Continue. Click Custom and Next. Uncheck Evaluation Database and Coherence, then click Next. Select the appropriate JDK. This should be a 64-bit JDK if you’re running a 64-bit OS. You may need to browse to locate the appropriate JAVA_HOME location. Check the JDK and click Next. Verify the installation directory and click Next. Click Next. Allow the installation to progress… Uncheck Run Quickstart and click Done.  And that's it! It's all quite painless - so let's proceed on to set up SOA Suite, shall we?

• Are there new flexible texteditors? [closed]

  Vi(m) and Emacs are almost 40 years old. Why are they still the standard, and what attempts have been made at coming up with a new flexible editor? Are there any features which can not be built into vim/emacs? My question is similar to this one: Time to drop Emacs and vi? No one had a suggestion, which surprises me. I would have thought that the core of a texteditor is very small and that people brew their own. Perhaps nobody wants to deal with supporting all the modes? Edit to clarify my question: Instead of writing modes and scripts I ask myself, why there is not a much lightweight project, which lets people custom the editor more directly? Vim has 365395 LOC (C lines all included), Emacs 1.5 million LOC. Why is there a project with say 50k LOC, which is the core, why people can use more freely? Perhaps there is such project, I haven't looked very far. I thought about putting together modules from Vim myself and experimenting with some ideas. The core of editing shouldn't be more than 10k? Vim has a lot optimizations which is really an overkill nowadays. Basically I'm looking for a code base for my own editor and Vi/Emacs are I believe not intended to be used in this way. Bill Joy said the following about vi. http://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~kirkenda/joy84.html The fundamental problem with vi is that it doesn't have a mouse and therefore you've got all these commands. In some sense, its backwards from the kind of thing you'd get from a mouse-oriented thing. I think multiple levels of undo would be wonderful, too. But fundamentally, vi is still ed inside. You can't really fool it. Its like one of those pinatas - things that have candy inside but has layer after layer of paper mache on top. It doesn't really have a unified concept. I think if I were going to go back - I wouldn't go back, but start over again.

• How to configure a GridView CommandField to trigger Full Page Update in UpdatePanel

  I have 2 user controls on my page. One is used for searching, and the other is used for editing (along with a few other things). The user control that provides the search functionality uses a GridView to display the search results. This GridView has a CommandField used for editing (showEditButton="true"). I would like to place the GridView into an UpdatePanel so that paging through the search results will be smooth. The thing is that when the user clicks the Edit Link (the CommandField) I need to preform a full page postback so that the search user control can be hidden and the edit user control can be displayed. Edit: the reason I need to do a full page postback is because the edit user control is outside of the UpdatePanel that my GridView is in. It is not only outside the UpdatePanel, but it's in a completely different user control. I have no idea how to add the CommandField as a full page postback trigger to the UpdatePanel. The PostBackTrigger (which is used to indicate the controls cause a full page postback) takes a ControlID as a parameter; however the CommandButton does not have an ID...and you can see why I'm having a problem with this. Update on what else I've tried to solve the problem: I took a new approach to solving the problem. In my new approach, I used a TemplateField instead of a CommandField. I placed a LinkButton control in the TemplateField and gave it a name. During the GridView's RowDataBound event I retrieved the LinkButton control and added it to the UpdatePanel's Triggers. • Neo4j increasing latency as SKIP increases on Cypher query + REST API

  My setup: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode) Neo4j 2.0.0-M06 Enterprise First I made sure I warmed up the cache by executing the following: START n=node(*) RETURN COUNT(n); START r=relationship(*) RETURN count(r); The size of the table is 63,677 nodes and 7,169,995 relationships Now I have the following query: START u1=node:node_auto_index('uid:39') MATCH (u1:user)-[w:WANTS]->(c:card)<-[h:HAS]-(u2:user) WHERE u2.uid <> 39 WITH u2.uid AS uid, (CASE WHEN w.qty < h.qty THEN w.qty ELSE h.qty END) AS have RETURN uid, SUM(have) AS total ORDER BY total DESC SKIP 0 LIMIT 25 This UID has about 40k+ results that I want to be able to put a pagination to. The initial skip was around 773ms. I tried page 2 (skip 25) and the latency was around the same even up to page 500 it only rose up to 900ms so I didn't really bother. Now I tried some fast forward paging and jumped by thousands so I did 1000, then 2000, then 3000. I was hoping the ORDER BY arrangement will already have been cached by Neo4j and using SKIP will just move to that index in the result and wont have to iterate through each one again. But for each thousand skip I made the latency increased by alot. It's not just cache warming because for one I already warmed up the cache and two, I tried the same skip a couple of times for each skip and it yielded the same results: SKIP 0: 773ms SKIP 1000: 1369ms SKIP 2000: 2491ms SKIP 3000: 3899ms SKIP 4000: 5686ms SKIP 5000: 7424ms Now who the hell would want to view 5000 pages of results? 40k even?! :) Good point! I will probably put a cap on the maximum results a user can view but I was just curious about this phenomenon. Will somebody please explain why Neo4j seems to be re-iterating through stuff which appears to be already known to it? • Need help to properly remove duplicates in NHibernate

  Here is the problem I am having. I have a database with over 100 records in it. I am paging through the data to get 9 results at a time. When I added a check to see if items are active, it caused the results to start doubling up. A little background: "Product" is the actual product line "ProductSkus" are the actual products that exist in the product line When there is more then 1 ProductSku within Product, it causes a duplicate entry to be returned. The problem is that it pulls 9 records back that contains duplicates. DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer then cleans up the duplicates in the 9 records. I am basically needing a distinct statement to be ran on the SQL server to begin with. However, distinct on SQL is not going to work since NHibernate by default wants to add every field from every table in the select part of the statement. I am only using the fields that belong to the root table to begin with (Model.Product). If I can tell NHibernate to not add the fields to the joined tables into the select part of the statement along with adding Distinct, it would work.   I have a very simple MVC 4 application I'm trying to deploy to a Windows 2012 server. Inconsistently, when navigating to the root of the web application (http://localhost/app), it returns a 403.14-Forbidden: Detailed Error Information: Module: DirectoryListingModule Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler Handler: StaticFile Error Code: 0x00000000 Requested URL: http://localhost:80/test1/ Physical Path: c:\apps\test1\ Logon Method: Negotiate The web application is: Is a very vanilla VS2012 MVC4 Intranet template -- with only a tweak to a label to prove things were working. runs in an Integrated v4.0 application pool setup to use Windows authentication application pool has a custom AD Identity assigned (so it can gain access to a SQL server) application pool identity has read permissions in the c:\apps\test1 folder in which it is running It's an MVC4 application, targeting .NET 4.0 currently -There's no default document in an MVC4 application (like a default.aspx), as there shouldn't need to be one. I don't want to enable directory listings (as that's not the real error). Installed: Roles / Web Server (IIS) / Appliation Development / (.NET 4.5 Extensibility, Application Initialization, ASP.NET 4.5, ISAP Extensions, ISAPI Filters, WebSocket Protocol) Works locally on my machine in IISExpress on Windows 8 Has configured in web.config: <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" /> is set to precompiled during publish When I change the precompiled option to false, the web application does not fail (in my testing at least, it seems to work consistently). The reason I say it's inconsistent is that I've seen it work, then I've published, and the error returns. I can't find a pattern to the issue (and right now, I haven't been able to get it work again, at all). The 403 is returned from a local or remote web browser. I've had trouble finding a solution that isn't intended for older versions of Windows (like suggestions to reinstall ASP.NET which won't work on Windows 2012). I really don't know what else to try.

• Powerpoint missing from DCOM config

  I have an application that automates the creation of powerpoint files in an ASP.NET environment. This requires that I install powerpoint on the server and also set permissions in the DCOM configuration snap-in (dcomcnfg) to give permissions to the launching user ([DOMAIN]\ASPNET in this case) to run the application. I have this setup running successfully on several Win2k3 machines. I am configuring my first Win2k8 machine and after installing powerpoint on the server, the "Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation" node in DCOM config is not showing up. Other installed Office apps are showing (Excel, Graph, etc...), just not Powerpoint. So when I attempt to run the application, I get an "Access denied" error, which is exactly what I would expect. The user doesn't have permission. Therefore, access denied. The specific error log entry is: The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {91493441-5A91-11CF-8700-00AA0060263B} to the user [DOMAIN]\ASPNET I searched the entire list for the CLSID, too, thinking maybe the name wasn't loading properly. No dice. I also re-ran the setup program for Office thinking maybe there would be some option or something I unchecked in the custom setup options, but I saw nothing that looked helpful. I'm flummoxed. Can anyone out there suggest something to help me get Powerpoint to show up in the list of DCOM applications? Many thanks.

• Teamcity build agent gives 504 gateway timeout

  I have a new teamcity build agent machine, which when started up tries to connect to the build server and fails. It never shows up in the connected, disconnected or unauthorised agents tabs of the build server web interface. The logs on the build agent show that it fails to connect with a 504 gateway timeout. Other VMS with similar configuration can connect fine and do not report this error. What can possibly be preventing this connection?

• Cannot bind OSX to AD

  I'm trying to get an mac mini running snow leopard server to join a windows domain here. The windows domain server is running Windows server 2008. When I go to "Accounts" in my System Preferences, and lick on "Join", I get this error: "Unable to add server. Node name wasn't found. (2000)" In my console messages I find this: 10-04-06 11:42:25 AM System Preferences1452 -[ODCAddServerSheetController handleOtherActionError: gotError: Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=2000 UserInfo=0x2004f2f80 "Custom call 82 to Active Directory failed.", Node name wasn't found. I specified a FQDN for the domain server, so I am totally confused as to why it would list "domain = com.apple...." in that error. I've tried firing up the Directory Utility and trying to join a domain via the Active Directory option there. Again I fill in the FQDN, and the proper administrator/password acount info. Now I get a different error: "Invalid Domain An invalid Domain and Forest combination was specified. You should enter a fully qualified DNS name for the domain and forest (e.g., ads.company.com)." If anyone has any pointers or suggestions this would be appreciated.

  I am trying to setup Team Foundation Server 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 using a single server configuration. During the "Readiness Checks" phase of the configuration wizard, I am facing an issue that i preventing me from communicating with the domain controller (which is Windows Server 2000). [ System Checks ] TF255435: This computer is a member of an Active Directory domain, but the domain controllers are not accessible. Network problems might be preventing access to the domain. Verify that the network is operational, and then retry the readiness checks. Other options include configuring Team Foundation Server specifying a local account in the custom wizard or joining the computer to a workgroup. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=164053&clcid=0x409 After reading the log file, the main issue I am encountering appears to be: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. (type SystemException) I have read in several other locations that the solution to this issue is to: Leave the domain Restart Join a workgroup Restart Rejoin the domain Unfortunately, I have tried this several times now and the issue persists. Is there anything I can try on the either the client machine or the domain controller that may help solve my issue?

  Firstly, my machines aren't compromised any person suggesting such will be DV'd. The security logs on some of my networks client machines (all Windows Xp Sp3) get filled with these useless error messages. Security Failure Audit Detailed Tracking Event ID: 861 User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE The Windows Firewall has detected an application listening for incoming traffic. Name: - Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe Process identifier: 976 User account: NETWORK SERVICE User domain: NT AUTHORITY Service: Yes RPC server: No IP version: IPv4 IP protocol: UDP Port number: 55035 Allowed: No User notified: No It's always on various random ports of UDP so setting up a port exception isn't really an option. It's always from svchost or lsass both of which are running services from DLLs. One of the most offending processes seems to the be DnsCache. I have in my global policy under AT < Network < Network Connection < Widnows Firewall < Domain Profile (I haven't changed any standard profile options do both need configured? To allow remote administration and desktop exceptions and have a custom program exception list that has %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe:*:enabled:svchost (Windows won't allow you to add this exception on a local machine but it let me have it on here in the global policy it just doesn't seem to do anything) %SystemRoot%\system32\lsass.exe:*enabled:lsass (I think this one ended all of my LSASS messages) %SystemRoot%\system32\dnsrslvr.dll:*:enabled:dnscache (I tried adding the dll itself to the exception list, this didn't seem to do anything) Is there really any other options left other than disabling the Windows Firewall entirely, disabling auditing entirely or just changing the event viewer to just auto overwrite when needed? I'd much rather fix the problem and get rid of these entries ever being created instead of just trying to cover up the problem.

• Moving from ColdFusion 8 to ColdFusion 10 - Migration Fails

  After having made several attempts to migrate from a ColdFusion 8 Standard server to a ColdFusion 10 Standard server, it feels like I am "almost" there. I'm using the 64 bit installer from Adobe's website. I'm using a Windows Server 2008 (64 bit) server with IIS 7.0. The installation itself goes smooth and the services start and are running. But at the end of the installation it says "ColdFusion Installed, but with errors" and it generates a log file. The log file reads: Migration Error: : Check that "C:\ColdFusion8" is a valid directory and is an installation of either ColdFusion MX 6 or ColdFusionMX 7 and further down says: Status: WARNING Additional Notes: WARNING - Could not migrate settings from previous version of ColdFusion Custom Action: com.macromedia.ia.action.MigrateColdFusionAction Status: ERROR Additional Notes: ERROR - class com.macromedia.ia.action.MigrateColdFusionAction NonfatalInstallException null The applicationHost.config file has new XML referencing the ColdFusion 10 directory, but IIS is still using ColdFusion 8. I'm also going to guess that the settings in the CF Administrator have not been migrated based on the message in the log above. I've followed the instructions on Adobe's site, including ensuring that ASP.NET, CGI, ISAPI Extensions, and ISAPI Filters are all enabled. I've also enabled IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility even though I don't think it's needed. Has anyone else had similar issues with ColdFusion 10 and IIS 7.   I am using the net.tcp protocol for various web services. When I reboot my Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) macbook pro, the service never restarts automatically, even though that is how they are set: The only relevant events I can see are in the System Event Log: Error 6/9/2011 19:47 Service Control Manager 7001 None The Net.Tcp Listener Adapter service depends on the Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Error 6/9/2011 19:47 Service Control Manager 7000 None The Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Error 6/9/2011 19:47 Service Control Manager 7009 None A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service service to connect. This post suggests that it's something else blocking the port (in the post it's SCCM 2007 R3 Client which I don't use). What else could be the problem? If it's something else blocking the port, how do I figure out what? When I manually start the services, they start correctly. Dependencies are: Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service Net.Tcp Listener Adapter Still no luck, but I think the problem might be that my network connection takes too long to come up. • How to use Salt Stack with minions all behind NAT (not publicly accessible, default salt ports not open)?

  Can Salt Stack minions communicate with the salt master from behind NAT/Firewalls, etc., using standard ports that would be open be default in all consumer NAT routers (and without the minions having a public DNS record or static IP)? I'm working my way through my first salt tutorial, and this is where I'm stuck. I am able to configure iptables on the Ubuntu salt-master. But I have no control over the routers/NAT that the minions will sit behind. So far I tried these settings: /etc/salt/master: publish_port: 465 ret_port: 443 /etc/salt/minion: master_port: 465 That did not work. Background: I have a custom developed application presently running on about 40 Kubuntu laptops (& more planned). Every few months I have to update the application. (Often this just amounts to replacing a .jar file, which requires root permissions.) I also have to run Ubuntu updates and a few other minor things. I've been doing it manually, one by one, using Team Viewer to log into each client. I would like to dramatically improve this process. The two options I'm aware of are either: use reverse ssh tunnels and bash scripts. I tested this and it works. But I don't get any of the reporting, etc., I would get with Salt Stack. use Salt Stack (or similar) management tool. But I need a really simple tool. I can't invest any time in a big learning curve. I looked at Puppet and a bunch of related tools. The only one I found that looked simple enough for me (so far) was Salt Stack. But I'm stuck now because my minion can't reach the salt-master, as stated above. I appreciate suggestions.

  I have a web application that needs to support custom domains, in that regard I have set-up the following name based virtual server: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ServerAlias * *.example.com www.example.com example.com RailsEnv production RackEnv production DocumentRoot /srv/www/example/current/public <Directory /srv/www/example/current/public> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews FollowSymLinks </Directory> ErrorLog /srv/www/example/log/error.log TransferLog /srv/www/example/log/access.log </VirtualHost> Notice the * as the server alias? that catches all the domains on that server. However, I have other sites on this server which I want to be excluded from this list. It is more economical for me to have a list of excluded domains than manually set every domain a user may register with at this service as a serverAlias... Perhaps this is not the best way to go, but I'm looking for help, in the best (relatively simple) way to set up a web-app that may catch any domains, while allowing other specific domains to be routed to different apps. What is strange is that if i'm running the same command that my script should create manually (echoing it inside my script) on the Shell, it actually works. But not inside my script. Any hints?
