• Force Capistrano to ask for password

  I am deploying using Capistrano to a new server and having the following issue. Currently, I cannot add an SSH key to the server to log in with so I must use password authentication. However, I do have a key for another server saved in my local user account's .ssh directory. Here is the error I get when I try to log in: C:\Web\CampMaRabu>cap deploy:setup * executing `deploy:setup' * executing "mkdir -p /home2/webapp1 /home2/webapp1/releases /home2/webapp1/shared /home2/webapp1/shared/system /home2/webapp1/shared/log /home2/webapp1/shared/pids" servers: ["myserver.example.com"] connection failed for: myserver.example.com (OpenSSL::PKey::PKeyError: not a public key "C:/Users/MyAccount/.ssh/id_rsa.pub") How can I get Capistrano to ignore the existence of the key I have and let me log in with a password instead? I tried adding set :password, "myp@ssw0rd" to deploy.rb and it didn't help.

• How do i remove a password expiration policy?

  We had a password expiration policy recently removed from our AD but some users continued to get the "..your password will expire in x days. would you like to change it now?" message. So we added a reverse/undo policy to correct the local registry settings Maximum password age = 0 days Minimum password age = 0 days This hasn't worked as new users still seem to encounter the above "change password" message sporadically. We have now removed all custom password policy GPOs and are left with the "Default Domain Policy". Still no good. Can someone point me in the direction to fix this? And an explanation into what i was doing wrong (/how password expiration policies apply) would be useful too. thanks Environment is 2k3 server with mostly XPsp2 clients.

• Error while installing ltsp server package in fedora 12

  Hi, i am using fedora 12, while i was installing ltsp(Linux terminal server project) server package, it told me that some more packages need to be installed with it as well, while downloading the packages i got the following error - Local Conflict between packages Test Transaction Errors: file /usr/share/man/man5/dhcp-eval.5.gz from install of dhcp-12:4.1.1-5.fc12.i686 conflicts with file from package dhclient-12:4.1.0p1-12.fc12.i686 file /usr/share/man/man5/dhcp-options.5.gz from install of dhcp-12:4.1.1-5.fc12.i686 conflicts with file from package dhclient-12:4.1.0p1-12.fc12.i686 i also deleted all the dhcp packages from man5 directory, even then it is giving the same error msg. please help me with it

• Setting up Lan within a Lan

  How unreasonable would it be to setup a small LAN within an existing LAN? I'm setting up a series of video surveillance servers and a number of IP cameras in a client's location and cannot have my equipment on the same network as their local machines. My network is essentially self-contained and the only device that anyone needs to access is a web-app on one of the machines. Basically I'm thinking of installing a SOHO router which would uplink to their LAN, and then set up some NAT rules on both their router and my router, to allow outside access to the webserver. Is there anything fundamental that i'm missing which would prevent this from working?

• NFS caching on Ubuntu

  We run a bunch of ubuntu servers (mostly 8.04 LTS) which all mount an nfs share at /nfs. We use the nfs primarily for two purposes: symlinking config files (such as apache vhosts) reading & writing uploaded files This all works great except it makes us fully dependent on the central NFS server (which is a DRBD cluster with heartbeat failover from primary to secondary, but we've still seen issues). What we'd like is if we could mount the NFS through some local caching layer which would make any file which had previously been read remain available even if /nfs isn't. Writes could be disabled for this period. Searching around it looks like cachefilesd may be an option. Unfortunately, it's only packaged for ubuntu 9.10 & 10.04 it looks like. I was also looking for a FUSE-based solution which might fit the bill, but hadn't found anything yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

• Determine which active directory object is referred to by GUID in a Directory Synchronization Error Report

  We have active directory syncronization setup between our on-premises AD server and Microsoft hosted Exchange (business productivity online services). I've started getting a daily error report, which details an error for a specific AD user, however it references it by GUID. I can't find any info on how to translate that object guid into something meaningful so I can find and fix the problem. The error is reported as: Error 005: Unable to set the alias for this object in Microsoft Online Services because either the primary SMTP address, the e-mail nickname, or the SAM account name in the local Active Directory contains an invalid character. in reference to the Object GUID: CN={8443cbb4-5199-49f0-9529-ce965430dca6} How can I translate that object guid into a friendly object name?

• Which process is using my NAS?

  I have a nas connected to my cluster. The NAS holds all our home directories. When I did a set of experiments last week, saving a 1 GB file to the nas took around 30 seconds. If i do the same to a local disk it takes 18 seconds. But when I tried doing the same process today, it takes 150 seconds. I am unsure what is the problem . Can someone help me pointout the issue? Is it possible to find out which process is accessing the NAS or how much NAS bandwidth is getting used ? Thanks for your help. -Sethu

• Upgrading Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.x to 11.1.1.4

  This is a follow on from my previous post where we upgraded 11.1.1.2 to 11.1.1.3. The instructions I provide here will work for Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 wanting to upgrade to 11.1.1.4. In this example I’m just upgrading SOA Suite on OEL 64bit but the steps will be the same, some of the downloads may be different based on your environment. To upgrade to 11.1.1.4 you need to have access to http://support.oracle.com as this is where the downloads reside. Oracle provides 11.1.1.4 as a standalone download so you can do a fresh install if required using OTN downloads (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html). The high level steps to upgrade are as follows: Download software Shutdown you SOA Environment Upgrade WLS to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade SOA Suite to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade OSB to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade MSD Schemas Identify the downloads you require for your install. You will need the WebLogic Server Upgrade and the additional product downloads. If you are using 64bit then use the generic version. The downloads are found from the following location - http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/E18749_01/download_readme.htm#BABDDIIC For the purpose of this post I downloaded the following patches 11060985 – WLS Server Generic 11060960 – SOA Suite 11061005 – OSB Suite You must also download the 11.1.1.4 RCU tool to upgrade the DB schemas. It is available via OTN, or, Oracle Support, I have provided the link from Oracle Support.  11060956 – RCU Make sure you have set the Java executable in your PATH e.g. export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH  Make sure all your WebLogic environment has been shut down before performing the upgrade. Extract the WLS patch 11060985 to a temporary directory and start the installer java –jar wls1034_upgrade_generic.jar Please note if you are not running 64BIT then the upgrade executable will be just a bin file which you can execute directly. Chose the right Oracle home for your WebLogic Server install. In the Register for Security Updates you can enter your details or just click Next. If you do not enter details confirm that you don’t want to receive these updates Select the products you want to upgrade and select next. It is recommended that you accept the defaults. Confirm the directories that will be upgraded Upgrade of WLS ahs been completed   Extract your both SOA downloads to a temporary directory and run the installer found in Disk1 ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Please note that the java location and version may be different for your environment Skip the Software Updates Ensure your system meets the prerequisites Set the Oracle home for your SOA install. You will be asked to confirm that you want to upgrade, click Yes Choose your application server. Since you are upgrading from 11.1.1.x you will be on WebLogic Start the Install Installation Upgrade of SOA Suite completed accept the default to finish.   In my environment I have OSB installed so I need to upgrade this next. If you don’t have SOA Suite you can go straight to completing the DB Schema updates at Step 24.  Extract the OSB upgrade files to a temporary directory and execute the installer found in the Disk1 folder. ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Skip the software updates Select the Oracle home for your environment Accept the warning to continue the upgrade Point to the location of your WebLogic Server installation Install the OSB upgrade Upgrade has been completed accept the defaults Change directory to $MW_HOME/oracle_common/bin where the Patch Set Assistant is installed Execute the following command to update the MDS schema. Please not for my examples I have the context set to DEV. your may be different. This means that all my schemas are prefixed by DEV. ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_MDS You will be asked you passwords for sys and the schema Enter the database administrator password for "sys": Enter the schema password for schema user "DEV_MDS": Change directory to $MW_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/bin to where the Patch Set Assistant is installed for SOA Suite. Execute the following command to update the SOA and BAM schemas ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_SOAINFRA   To check that you have the installed correctly run the following SQL as sysdba. SELECT owner, version, status FROM schema_version_registry; OWNER                          VERSION                        STATUS ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ----------- DEV_MDS                        11.1.1.4.0                     VALID DEV_SOAINFRA                   11.1.1.4.0                     VALID Don’t stress if the versions are not all sitting at version 11.1.1.4 as not all schemas need to be updated. • Project Server 2007 install issue - ProjectEventService won't start

  Trying to install PS2007 with SP1 on Server 2003. The install goes fine, but when running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, it fails at stage 6 of 12 with the error: Failed to register SharePoint Services. An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: Cannot start service ProjectEventService on computer '.'. From the PSCDiagnostics log: Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service ProjectEventService on computer '.'. --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. The ProjectEventService (Microsoft Office Project Server Event) won't even start manually using the Network Service account. Starting the service with a domain account works, but subsequently running the Config Wizard causes the service to be removed and re-provisioned to run using the Network Service account, which again fails. Presumably Network Service needs elevated permissions, but even adding it to the local Admin group makes no difference. Anyone come across this sort of issue before?

• Set umask, set permissions, and set ACL, but SAMBA isn't using those?

  I'm running on Ubuntu Server 12.04. I have a folder called Music and I want the default folder permissions to be 775 and the default file to then be 664. I set the default permissions on the Music folder to be 775. I configured ACL to use these default permissions as well: file: Music owner: kris group: kris flags: ss- user::rwx group::rwx other::r-x default:user::rwx default:group::rwx default:other::r-x I also changed the default umask for my user account, kris, to 002 in .profile. Shouldn't and new file/folder now use those permissions when writing to the Samba share? ACL should work with Samba from what I can gather. Currently, if I write to that folder using my mac, folders are getting 755 and files 644. I have another app on my mac called GoodSync which which is able to sync a local directory on my mac to a network samba share, but those permissions are even worse. files are being written as 700 using that program. So it looks like Samba is allowing the host/program to determine the folder/file permissions. What changes do I need to make to force the permissions I want regardless of what the host tries to write on the server?

• How to make sysctl network bridge settings persist after a reboot?

  I am setting up a notebook for software demo purpose. The machine has 8GB RAM, a Core i7 Intel CPU, a 128GB SSD, and runs Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit. The notebook is used as a KVM host and runs a few KVM guests. All such guests use the virbr0 default bridge. To enable them to communicate with each other using multicast, I added the following to the host's /etc/sysctl.conf, as shown below net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-ip6tables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0 Afterwards, following man sysctl(8), I issued the following: sudo /sbin/sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf My understanding is that this should make these settings persist over reboots. I tested it, and was surprised to find out the following: root@sdn1 :/proc/sys/net/bridge# more *tables :::::::::::::: bridge-nf-call-arptables :::::::::::::: 1 :::::::::::::: bridge-nf-call-ip6tables :::::::::::::: 1 :::::::::::::: bridge-nf-call-iptables :::::::::::::: 1 All defaults are coming back! Yes. I can use some kludgy "get arounds" such as putting a /sbin/sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf into the host's /etc/rc.local but I would rather "do it right". I want to be able to authenticate users against Windows ActiveDirectory (2008 R2) and the users file, because some of my co-workers are not listed in AD. We use the freeradius server to authenticate WLAN users.   I have the above mentioned error in my /var/log/auth.log file and just try to figure out if this is a harmelss statement. As far as I understand does pmvarrun tells the system how many active session (e.g. logins) a user has on the system. • ReadyNAS Duo - FTP home network connectivity issue

  I have a ReadyNas Duo that I recently purchased and configured on my local home network. I'm an AT&T DSL subscriber using their default 2701HG-B Gateway (2Wire) wireless router. Basically, I have managed to configure my ReadyNAS, and can access HTTP shares and WINS shares just fine, but cannot get access to it via FTP. I've enabled it in the 'Standard File Protocols' section in the UI, and made a share have read/write default access via FTP. My settings: Port: 21 Authentication mode: User Allow upload resumes: Yes Passive ports: 1024-65535 Masquerade as: (empty, but I've tried the internal IP address). I've even poked around at my router, which has a firewall, and even tried to poke a hole for the 'FTP Server'app for the ReadyNAS. Doesn't seem like I should need to do this, or should. Any ideas what else to check? Thanks! -Daniel

• Check if root ca certificate is installed

  We are having a custom CA for our local-domains. The Root CA certificate is installed on all the corporate machines by default, but sometimes it happens that we have someone here who doesn't have it installed. If the user a) accesses our intranet using http or b) accepts the server-certificate I would like to redirect the user to a site which tells it what happened and how they can install the root CA. The only solution I found was the following: <img src="https://the_site/the_image" onerror="redirectToCertPage()"> This is barely a work-around and not really a solution. It can be triggered by other problems then the missing certificate. Are there any better solutions on how to solve this problem?

• You Can't Win on Price

  This year I did the majority of my Christmas shopping from the comfort of my home office. There aren't many things in stores you can't find online these days. I find it easier to search, research, and compare products online rather than walking the mall anyway. But there's a segment of the population that likes to be in the store, touching the products. For those people, smartphones avail them some of the e-commerce features I mentioned right there in the aisles. First it was RedLaser, then TheFind, ShopSavvy and many others. But the one that should be scaring retailers is Amazon's PriceCheck application. It lets you scan the product barcode, take a picture of the product, or speak the product's name. Once the product is identified, it shows the online prices, with Amazon at the top of the list. Within 10 seconds you can order the item and Amazon Prime members get free 2-day shipping too. I don't think fashion and grocery retailers need to worry much, but I have to believe smartphones are helping Amazon win a little more of the brand-name hardgoods market. So what's a retailer to do? Best Buy has begun to put QR Codes on their shelf labels that are easily scanned by smartphones and take the consumer to a Best Buy Web page where they can get extended information about the product. The consumer is getting the additional information they want, and Best Buy avoids the price comparisons. Of course if a consumer chooses to use the Amazon PriceCheck app, then all bets are off. That's when Best Buy has to hope the in-store experience and customer service will save the sale. My point is that the internet makes information available to everyone, and smartphones make it available anywhere. Unless you want your store to be Amazon's local showroom, you need to be price-competitive but differentiate on other aspects of the shopping experience. With the cost of running a physical store, you can't win on price.

  I am new in Linux. I was trying to install wine and after /i followed instructions from a youtube video i got to the point where I needed to install wine from Ubuntu Software Center.
